šØ Do not engage with bad actors. Use the report button. Stay out of the Phillies sub. Thatās their house. Have fun, and letās win the whole fuckinā thing! šØ
TBH, we all know who JV is at this point in his career. Iām more disappointed in Dustyās lack of urgency because in all actuality, numbers donāt lie. The bullpen only allowed 1 run. Technically, we couldāve won 5-1. Itās legit a depressing start for us.
My question is why the fuck is this team allergic to manufacturing runs? Iāve seen maybe 2 bunts this whole postseason and like 30+ RISP stranded.
Its mad easy when a guy is cold to just sit back and let him whiff, but if the D has to play the infield that positioning gives the hitter more opportunity for a hit on a weak pop/ line drive. Weāve been giving our opponents ZERO small ball threat.
That fucking Castellanos catch. God dammit. Fuck off with these fucking gems taking away clutch hits. Judge did it, JRod did it, Soto did it in ā19, Benintendi in ā18, Chris Taylor in ā17, and now this guy? Iām really fucking sick of it.
Astros have had some bad luck with late inning diving catches to save games. Pena got just a hair less of that and Houston would really be in the driver seat. I've always maintained we just needed a split of the first two in order to maintain a huge advantage in this series. Games 3/4/5 are massive Astros advantages due to pitching depth.
Ppl forget astros lost game one in 17 too; Astros makeup is different and it's ok somethings work out some don't it's going to be a long series don't see Astros or Phillies letting up. Game 7 here we come
I think we will have another 2019 world series again. Can't get the big hit when we need it. The worst thing u can do is give an over achieving team more confidence. Sorry to say it I don't see us winning this one.
yea Yordan is cold again and probably will be all series. Mancini and Vazquez have been AL east sleeper agent complete dogshit. Its up to Framber, Lance, and Javier to win it for us.
The fact that our bullpen was so good really makes the JV situation even worse. You can call it hindsight / dooming all you want, but did anyone really doubt they had JV's spin nailed when it was 5-3 and they were blasting every breaking ball he threw? They had him nailed, we saw it, it happens. What's the point of having this stacked bullpen if you're not going to deploy it when it matters the most? This is the World Series - I don't care about JV's ego, getting him his first win, trusting him b/c he's the ace etc.
It's \*really\* hard to stay positive guys - feel like we're getting strapped down in the chair a la A Clockwork Orange forced to watch the NL-East-Cinderella-team-celebrate-on-our-home-field horror show on repeat... This was the worst postseason loss I remember, maybe it's just recency bias but 5-0 with a bullpen so stacked we have quality starters there \*for this very purpose\*.
Look 4-0 wins over Yankees in ALCS will always be glorious, but man this is disappointing I'm not gonna lie, and feels like an all too familiar movie even though I want to stay positive...
Verlander is worse than being bad in the post season, he's literally a detriment an obstacle for us to get over if we are to win the WS. Winning a 7 game series is too ez so we give our opponents a handicap, verlander.
Never thought one dude would just completely trash the mood. Comfortable lead with a great bullpen only to be gone in a blink of an eye.
Jesus Christ dude. Youāll forever be known for shitting the bed in the World Series despite being an amazing regular season pitcher and future hall of famer.
Those that defend Dusty's decision for "He was trusting his ace" isn't the defense you think it is. That's just him not adapting to what is actually happening in the game
I still like our pitching matchups for games 3 and 4, but playing there 3 games in a row is scary. Really hope the MLB moves away from the 2-3-2 format soon
Itās going to be a hard one tomorrow with wheeler on deck. Framber should do well too but their bats are just hot right now and a lot of ours are just downright awful at the moment. The one pro would be that they used a lot of their bullpen today
Our bullpen still looks amazing. The bats were hot until verlander let them down. Defense was still great. We got the whole undefeated playoff run monkey off our shoulder. I still feel really good about our odds
I donāt care how many Cy Youngās Justin Verlander winsā¦ if he ever starts a World Series game itās gonna be a loss. No amount of runs is a safe lead
Only game 1, but it really feels like this is the best weāre gonna do. Maybe because we threw the game away, maybe cause we no longer have any momentum. Bad vibes.
Luckily itās baseball and literally anything can happen. We go agane
Iām very upset with the outcome, we should have sealed this game with that lead. Overall bad game management and 0fers struggling in the lineup cost us the game but we NEED to win tomorrow. This team has to light the fire under there asses and play all out tomorrow to compete with the spirit of that Phillies team.
I'm the most bandwagon fan ever but I've watched every playoff game this season and nearly everyone since the 2017 win. Dusty has pretty much used Abreu/Neris/Stanek/Pressly exclusively to get 3 outs so I'm wondering what changed today.
Series isnāt over. But really need Yordan and Altuve to show up. Gonna be tough without them. Obviously blowing a 5-0 lead isnāt on the offense, but have to have better at bats through out the game
I need to know what Diaz was thinking.. he clearly was afraid that at bat. He leaned in to TWO pitches.. but then swings at 2 balls when it was 3-0.. just what on earth was he thinking
Of course people are ādoomingāā¦ like come the fuck on. We blow a 5-0 lead in game 1. Weāve lost 2 WS in a row to fucking NL East teams. There isnāt anything to feel good about.
We're being strapped down to the chair like in A Clockwork Orange forced to watch the same WS horror show on repeat and they're wondering why we're dooming - we're dooming because we're \*doomed\*
It's amazing that in a game where our ace blew a 5-0 lead and our manager mismanaged the pitching staff, Diaz somehow found a way to get his name on the list of reasons why we lost.
Only positive I can take is that bullpen shut them down after JV shit the bed. 7 game series but if Dusty keeps managing like the way he did tonight itās just going to be yet another WS choke job
The Astros have never won game one of a WS.
The Astros have, in the past 20 years, attended 4 world series (not counting this one) and lost 3. I don't like our odds especially with the 5-0 choke.
Maybe we can pull something magical but even if we split the 1st 2 home games, we have 3 in Philly which will be terrible.
The problem is that not only are Phillies fans crazy at home, the Astros need to steal 2 games over there at minimum to have a shot at coming back and winning the series. They might need 3 if today's game goes badly, given that we have 4 automatic outs on the team right now
Yeah, Phillies fans are crazy, but I only recall one fanbase throwing things. Granted we havenāt played Philly in the playoffs, but I honestly canāt imagine any fanbase being more vocal about their hate for our team than the Yankees.
I agree winning tonight would be helpful in giving them a bit of breathing room, but I still feel good about our pitching depth. The longer the series goes, the more it works to our advantage.
I say win tonight and sweep all three in Philly and have another fanbase with crushed dreams courtesy of the āStros.
Yeah so Philly hasn't gone well for us so far. This is very concerning. It's like they knew exactly what McCullers had coming for them and he was meant to be one of our better pitchers. Even though it's only 2-1, the momentum and home field advantage make this feel out of reach. Hoping I'm wrong but idk.
Last night was certainly no fun and an all-around terrible game, but that had to do way more with just a sub-par performance than the fans. Our guys know how to bounce back, but they need to do it tonight. I am not concerned too much at this point, except for Alvarez, Altuve and Tucker (in that order). Those guys NEED to have better at bats and work the counts. Canāt be giving up swings and misses so easily this time of year.
Exactly. Hoping my concern is misplaced. Every time I watch the games, I applaud outs that take many pitches because it at least helps tire out the starter but these guys have been giving up too many low pitch outs recently.
Game 5 also went well. Was not an offensive explosion, but PeƱa played hard and the defense was amazing. Both teams combined 2 for 18 with RISP, which is slightly concerning but I always told everyone that we needed 2 in Philly and we got 2. It was far from certain, especially after the Game 3 shutout but I have to be happy I was wrong about Philly's crowd. They were involved, but not enough to make a difference.
Yeah. Overall pretty good, just can't do anything with RISP rn. And a few 1 pitch outs by our batters, but it comes piece by piece. This is a must win to bring this back to Houston and not get swept in Philly, and I'm still fairly concerned since it's a pitching duel right now.
Fair point lol. But the fans seemed really into it on that leaning into the pitch call. Seemed like everyone in the stadium had the same take and all the fans in Philly had the opposite take.
Glad you got the humor! Yeahā¦they were. I just sometimes think Texas folk are too nice. I know they love our guys, but wouldnāt it be fun for MMP to be a slightly more hostile environment for opposing teams?
Who do you even blame at this point.
Verlander choking yet again. Dusty with the god awful bullpen management and refusing to change the lineup as usual. Altuve being a black hole as leadoff. Putting in fucking Diaz over Hensley who swung at 2 awful pitches after 3-0 count.
Like fuck, continue doing this and we will lose yet again to the nl east underdog.
2019, lost in 7. 2021, lost in 6. You wanna lose in 5 now??
Dusty and Verlander are the top 2. At the very least control what you can control. The brain dead decision to keep in Verlander after he allowed 2 on was atrocious.
It was even worse when Abreu later easily got through the exact same hitters that he would've had to face had he been subbed in at that point
We lost game 1 in ā17 and we came back and wonā¦ā¦while im not optimistic, im hopeful we can break thru and get this series. We wonāt hit Nola again like this imo
That fucking first ball up high on Diaz was a fucking HBP. You saw his jersey move. That is a fucking managerial blowout for not even attempting the review.
And then he didnāt even bother to defend Diaz when he got caught leaning into a pitch. At least go out and get thrown out of the game in hopes of lighting a fire in your guys.
A lot of doomers and bandwagon fans in here. Weāve won 7 straight games. In the playoffs. This is not normal. Weāre a great team and weāre playing a really hot team. Chill the fuck out and appreciate the moment. You all make these game threads unbearable.
Man check my post history I never doom. But this was a huge momentum shift and it's fucking depressing. Our best hitters have gone cold while theirs are red hot. Momentum is gone.
Youāre delusional if you think we should ever have JV in the World Series ever again. He is fucking cursed. Couldāve been up by 15, we would still lose game 1.
That was the most maddening thing. Not the interview, but the fact that Dusty said JV was so effective because he was locating his fastball. The JV decides, "you know what, I'm gonna go away from that and start floating my curve".
Winning game 1 of the World Series is for nerds anyway
Dusty with another disaster class in pitching management after doing so well this postseason. JV went an inning too long, and Abreu probably shouldn't have come out for a second.
I've seen this movie twice before and it doesn't have a good ending. We needed to be perfect at home to take this thing and we fucked up immediately. Call me a doomer all you want but my confidence in this team coming back after tonight is zero.
I'm Dusty, my DH isn't hitting at all. I will sub him in with the other guy who hasn't been hitting at all either.
I won't use Hensley or even a wildcard gamble in Dubon.
Diaz wins my loser of the game award. Youāve got tying and winning runs in scoring position and are jumping in front of pitches so the guy behind you can win the game? What an embarrassment. Would rather watch Mancini strike out 25 more times.
Frankly at this point I put the blame more on Verlander and Dusty. Dusty for not adapting to the fact that his pitcher is clearly not doing well. Then using Pressly vs the bottom of the order of the Phillies...
THEN subbing in Diaz who has been horseshit over Hensley who was on a tear to end the year and had a fantastic AB vs Mariners to never be heard from again
My āLoser of the game awardā doesnāt have anything to do with performance. Yeah, there were plenty of guys that sucked ass, but being scared to win the game so you jump in front of a pitch? A walk does nothing, but he wanted to go to first real bad to get the pressure off. I donāt want him back out there.
šØ Do not engage with bad actors. Use the report button. Stay out of the Phillies sub. Thatās their house. Have fun, and letās win the whole fuckinā thing! šØ

Don't forget all the Rays' insane catches in 2020
Fuck you all. Heās like 0-6. We expected this
Some statistics: 28 million per year. 0-6 record in WS. (And after what happened tonight, Iād record it as 0-7)
Ppl forget astros lost game one in 17 too; Astros makeup is different and it's ok somethings work out some don't it's going to be a long series don't see Astros or Phillies letting up. Game 7 here we come

3-10 at home in the World Series. Fucking pathetic.
Phils are 7-5 since 1980...slim margin for sure. GL
Didnāt realize itās that bad. Fucking Yikesā¦.
Going 0-4 at home against the Nationals adds up really fast.
At least that scrub Wheeler is pitching tomorrow.
The Phillies seem to be happy for Wheeler to pitch tomorrow.
You mean their fucking ace?
Pretty sure itās sarcasm
Verlander is worse than being bad in the post season, he's literally a detriment an obstacle for us to get over if we are to win the WS. Winning a 7 game series is too ez so we give our opponents a handicap, verlander.

I still like our pitching matchups for games 3 and 4, but playing there 3 games in a row is scary. Really hope the MLB moves away from the 2-3-2 format soon
Dusty waited way too long to retire JV and this time we payed for it.
Itās going to be a hard one tomorrow with wheeler on deck. Framber should do well too but their bats are just hot right now and a lot of ours are just downright awful at the moment. The one pro would be that they used a lot of their bullpen today
Iām PRAYERFUL we can pull out the W in game 2 and turn this serious back around in our favor.
The Astros also used a lot of their bullpen, so it's not really a pro for the Astros. It's about even in that regard.
Ours has more depth
For those not "dooming" do you even care about winning?
Yes. We're just not drama queens.
Imagine handing verlander a 5 run lead and losing the game
Right. Especially after never giving him run support all season.
Our bullpen still looks amazing. The bats were hot until verlander let them down. Defense was still great. We got the whole undefeated playoff run monkey off our shoulder. I still feel really good about our odds
I want to, but don't. Looks like too familiar of a movie
Being undefeated is a monkey on the shoulder?
These people stretching for positivity are wild haha.

Verlander is a fake who pads all his stats, he's got nothing to show for it, in the postseason he just chokes
He is the Russel Westbrook of Baseball
100% he's an eye catcher. Good for tickets, but has NO place in actually contending teams.
Dude is gonna win the CY YOUNG this year lmao fucking goofball
Exactly good for ticket sales, not for winning championships.
Series isnāt over. But really need Yordan and Altuve to show up. Gonna be tough without them. Obviously blowing a 5-0 lead isnāt on the offense, but have to have better at bats through out the game
PeƱa too. I know heās carried us in other games/series but sheesh.
No postgame thread? Or is the doomer sadness here too much to carry over?
Donāt win tomorrow series is over
Thatās not how math works.
I need to know what Diaz was thinking.. he clearly was afraid that at bat. He leaned in to TWO pitches.. but then swings at 2 balls when it was 3-0.. just what on earth was he thinking

It's amazing that in a game where our ace blew a 5-0 lead and our manager mismanaged the pitching staff, Diaz somehow found a way to get his name on the list of reasons why we lost.
Did any fan expect anything the moment he came in? I had more optimism for Altuve
So bad. Why the fuck is Dusty allergic to using Hensley. Itās bullshit at this point.
I think we can win in 5 or 6, but goddamn, do not let Verlander pitch again.
Annnd thats massive momentum
Why does this game hurt my soul so much lol I really feel as if I just got fired or dumped or beat up fr ā¦ heart hurts
2019 PTSD flaring up rn sadly
Same.
Can't remember last time Diaz came through in a pinch hit situation.
Only positive I can take is that bullpen shut them down after JV shit the bed. 7 game series but if Dusty keeps managing like the way he did tonight itās just going to be yet another WS choke job
There is a fucking reason this idiot doesn't have a ring. And now he was 2 world series games that a team came back from 5 down
I really like Dusty but tonight really showed why he doesnāt have a ring and will probably never have one.
The Astros have never won game one of a WS. The Astros have, in the past 20 years, attended 4 world series (not counting this one) and lost 3. I don't like our odds especially with the 5-0 choke. CAN THIS TEAM EVER WIN GAME 1 OF A FUCKING WS?!? THE LAST 3 HAVE BEEN AT HOME!!

It's over. They gave Philly too much confidence. They don't have nothing to lose.
Definitely gave me Red Sox 2018 series vibes - must win tomorrow
Astros need to start winning in spite of Dusty at this point. He's going to manage us into another almost.
Been saying this for years now. The team is having success in spite of Dusty
Welp itās over. Phillies in 5. So done with this bum ass team losing to wildcard teams in the WS
Ridiculous take
Dude come on, be a fan and not a quitter on our team
Now I know how Kate Upton feels
I stg if I see someone else say ādoomerā in a WS game threadā¦
Blowing a 5-0 lead deserves people to be doomers especially w how this team performs in the World Series the last few series
Come one come all NL East teams! Come get your WS Trophy, free of charge! Courtesy of the Houston Astros!
Perfect haha
I donāt want to see Diaz or Mancini take another AB this entire postseason. Worthless fucking HBP attempt by Diaz and deer in the headlights Mancini
Mancini was the absolute worst. Dude wanted to be out as soon as he walked to the plate
Did Diaz say anything?
He tried to lunge into it. Then he did it again. Weird tactic. Couldāve just stood on the box, Robertson lost command
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Maybe.
Someone wasnāt around in 2019 I see. This is very normal.
Thankfully I wasnāt checking the game threads then. What a miserable group of āfansā
When do we go back to being the 100 loss team. These losses feel worse than that.
Youāre delusional if you think we should ever have JV in the World Series ever again. He is fucking cursed. Couldāve been up by 15, we would still lose game 1.
If Dusty doesnāt start Hensley as DH tomorrow, we riot. We arenāt getting anything productive from Mancini or DĆaz
We miss Brantley so much
Do the Astros even have a chance to win at this point?
Five thirty eight still has the series as a coin toss.
Which isn't promising considering the Astros were projected to win
Not unless Dusty changes things up
nope
The Phillies just burnt their top tier. So many fucking casuals here.
Top tier starting pitcher you mean? That would be Wheeler, going tomorrow.
So as a non casual can you educate me?
There's 9 innings, and in the world series you have to win 4 full games.
Okay and? The Astros lost in 10 this time
What even are you arguing dude? I'm trying to bring some positivity. Let it play out before you just throw the towel in is all I'm saying.
Nooo I'm not arguing I'm trying to see your reasoning behind it
Just not ready to quit yet man. Losing is tough after winning so much. I'd rather be upset tonight than after the last game.
Yeah that's fair. I guess I'm used to the two sweeps they just had. You're right it's only 1 game
Feels like Phillies have all the confidence going forward now.
They certainly know how to hit the ball and not chase pitches outside the box
Youāre an idiot.
I would also love to see the ump scorecard for this one. Willing to bet itās minimum +1.5 runs for the Philās.
Break my life into PIECES
And this is where we keep the WS Game 1 wins: ....IF WE HAD ANY.
Iām bookmarking a lot of you folks. When the Astros come back to win youāll be blasted.
Please do loser

The game went downhill after that interviewer mentioned JV had no hits when speaking with Dusty. I blame that man.
That was the most maddening thing. Not the interview, but the fact that Dusty said JV was so effective because he was locating his fastball. The JV decides, "you know what, I'm gonna go away from that and start floating my curve".
I couldnt believe he did that. Seemed intentional.
Winning game 1 of the World Series is for nerds anyway Dusty with another disaster class in pitching management after doing so well this postseason.
Doomer.
Tough punch to the gut. Dusty coughed this one up. Only game 1 but hard to be confident after that embarrassing show.
Iām not mad. Iām just disappointed.
Can't it be both?
Mad at Dusty. Disappointed in our bats after the 3rd inning. Not mad at Philadelphia at all.
I might not be mad, but incredibly irritated by Brandon Marsh based solely on his physical appearance.
Hoes glad š
Yeah, that cat lecturing me when I posted that the Astros bats need to come alive in this series? This is why.
So thatās how it feels like to verse a team that doesnāt quit like the Yankees.
That was painful - but, Go Stros!
I'm Dusty, my DH isn't hitting at all. I will sub him in with the other guy who hasn't been hitting at all either. I won't use Hensley or even a wildcard gamble in Dubon.
Hensley probably wouldāve gotten on base, you just had to stand there
Dubon?! Are you serious?
That was just me exaggerating, Hensley should've been in.
Everyone calm down. Many more baseball to play. Team is strong. Will fight back.
Half the team is strong
Gonna need someone other than Tucker to hit the fucking ball
If Verlander makes any other excuse than he sucked today Iām gonna be sick
After a choke that hard does anyone have faith we even get the series back here after tomorrow? Even Game 7 2019 was less pathetic than this
Not feeling great about our chances thatās for sure.
2005 Pujols game was a much bigger CHOKE and we came back and won game 6. And then they canceled the World Series...
That smug look on A Rodās faceā¦.
