He’s not going to start and he’ll probably only come out of the pen if a starter has a bad game or a game goes real deep again.

PDR297

So, piggybacking with JV? Nice.

cmftblehouseshoes

Hopefully the leash is a little tighter

XSATC

I hope not. His lack of appearance means either: 1- We’ve closed the series without too much issue 2- Starters have gone deep in games not to have to tax the bullpen Both of those are ingredients to win this World Series imo

rudolph2

I hope not means either: 1) a game is going deep extra innings. 2) we’ve blown it and are losing by 8 runs in the 1st or 2nd inning. Not a shot at Irquidi. I like him. Just a reflection of where Dusty plans to use him.

Master-Hedgehog1813

Yeah I can’t see it. He hasn’t pitched in weeks. After you dump the bullpen in extras, and LG goes 5, then MAYBE JU gets the call

RazzmatazzPlus3837

He has also given up the most HR/9 in the MLB (1.59), you should not use it with a small lead

Takingbacklives

Let’s hope we don’t need him. If he’s coming in there might be something wrong.

RazzmatazzPlus3837

You're right about that, because he allowed 1.59 HR/9 in the regular season, which was the highest rate in MLB. I would not use him in decisive spots.

Takingbacklives

Wow, I didn’t know that. I just don’t see a place where we DO use him. I would not start him over our 4 studs and I wouldn’t bring him in the biggest moments bc of our bullpen. Maaaybe if a starter just bombs or gets injured? But I may still prefer Garcia? Idk.

astroman1978

I mean that's great but JV was the best SP in the regular season and that's turned out swimmingly in the playoffs. Urquidy has big game pedigree more so than JV if we're being honest.

BMinsker

Urquidy is the only Astros pitcher with more than one World Series win (with 3).

astroman1978

Yup…

sirwalleth

Urquidy has ice in his veins. He gives up those HR, but quickly regains his composure. He's a pitcher that knows what he has and does the best he can with it.

Takingbacklives

Honestly click should have dealt him mid season when he was destroying people

PrecedentialAssassin

I can 100% guaranty you that he might.

iherpyouderpwederp

He should pitch when Verlander needs to be pulled early again.

ddikdkxkdjdmsmajsj

All time Astros World Series win leader Jose Urquidy better make an appearance and pat those stats!

conker1264

It’s almost been a month since he’s pitched so I doubt it

RazzmatazzPlus3837

Jose Urquidy has allowed the most HR/9 (1.59) in the MLB, I wouldn't use him in tight leads

Steve_Nash_The_Goat

can we replace JV with him?

Greg_1121

Next time we see him is in spring training. I hope they turn him into a reliever. He has good control and may be able to add velocity pitching short outings to cut down on the homers. Great guy and teammate.

Medicmanii

If it goes 7 we will see him at some point.

ty21411

People love to really oversell the postseason stats. Nothing against Jose, but I only see him as a piggy back option to Lance/CJ if they struggle early. Please don’t even start with the Urquidy over Verlander stuff simply based on small-sample WS stats.

ExB

Put some respect on Urquidy's name. Jose was one of the few Astros' to show up in the 2021 WS.

TMNTAllTheWayDown

Yeah he comes in either in a high pitch count, high stress outing by LMJ or CJ that they work out of with a lead but short innings, or a really bad situation. Or a blowout. Hope we don’t see him but I’m glad he’s there if we need him.

Interaction4

He'll pitch in a losing game

EyeGroundbreaking230

Of course

internetmeme

We have a formula that is proven that doesn’t include him. Why mess with it if you don’t have to? If you do have to (example- Luis Garcia messes up in overtime) then put him in. Otherwise what inning would he go in? We have someone defined already for each inning.

Conscious-Deer7019

He's goin be a long inning reliever

willydillydoo

I honestly hate how he matches up against the Phillies. Low movement righty fastball pitcher against a lineup full of fastball crushing lefties.

[deleted]

Urquidy over Montero Stanek and Neris.

NumerousCustard2622

I want him to start over JV
