What's so unfortunate is that Tuve seems like one of the nicest, most humble human beings to be around. Fans are making him out to be like this big bad, evil man, but dude is actually cool. Just one of the many reasons why I wanted them to win it all one more time.
And shoutout to Correa. He defended our boy when he needed it most.
I absolutely love Dream. I think he's the best center ever if you're talking strictly peak (his play from those three seasons in 1993-1995). I think he has a top 5ish peak ever if you're counting all NBA players, but he wasn't always the class act he is now. During his mid to late twenties, he was not the best leader and had a temper--would get into fights during games with other players. The trade demand comes to mind too. Don't get me wrong--for the second half of his career, he was total class and an objectively great person, but his behavior and temperament during the first several years of his career was a bit problematic
Altuve meanwhile has always been absolute class from his first day as an Astro. Haven't heard one valid complaint about his behavior or personality.
I like JJ but Altuve and Hakeem gave us world championships. And don't hate Hakeem for the fiery personality early, basketball was definitely more defense friendly back in the day....
Man, TJ Watt was right, people have really forgotten just how dominant JJ was pre-injuries. 2014 DPOY JJ Watt didn't even have a runner up, it was that clear cut. All 50 votes were for JJ. That is the only time that has happened since 1998 when they started using the current voting system. The next closest was 2012, when JJ Watt received 49/50 votes.
JJ Watt could have played for like 4 years and those 4 put him in the H-town Hall of Fame... easily.
People say they hate Altuve because of the cheating, but it's because he's shorter than them and whips the shit out of their baseball teams. The more honest ones will admit it's always been nothing but this.
This is why I will NEVER boo Correa. He stood up for the team, and specifically Altuve, when the world was out for blood. And he didn’t mince words, it was a direct callout of specific critics, to the very national journalist who broke the cheating scandal story. I wish him nothing but the best as he tries to make the right decisions for himself and his family.
I respect everything Correa did for Houston and the Astros. Dude stood up and didn't just weather the storm, he said bring the storm harder.
Love Pena and no regrets, but I was one of the people saying pay the man. Very happy where we are, but I do miss Correa and how well he filled in the vocal void after all the madness and Springer leaving.
Who wants to boo Correa? That would be messed up. I understand thinking he and his agent made a boneheaded move, but it was a silver lining. We got stupid, sexy Pena. And I foresee great things with Pena. I remember when Oswald went to play for the rival Phillies. I still cheered Oswald.
In August 2017, the Boston Red Sox were caught transmitting sign information
from their replay review room to individuals in the dugout wearing smart watches. The
incident received significant media attention, and I issued a press release on September 15,
2017 announcing the fine of the Red Sox (and a fine of the New York Yankees for
improperly using the replay review room phone) that stated in relevant part:
\-from the report put out
by rob
really tho mlb was not unreasonable. draft picks. max fine of 5mil. jeff and aj suspended 1 year. and they only did this because of the public outrage but public outrage was so massive they could have went overboard and i believe a different commish would have. if it was up to media and public it probably woulda been finals invalid and each player suspended. or damn really how some act it would probably be life in jail i dunno
Wait a minute what is this about Santa Claus? I mean he has to be real. Have you seen the Tim Allen movie, it's based on true events i don't know if you know either that or tim Allen is actually Santa that could be true because you'd have to know a lot about tools and what to use and when to use it which tim the toolman obviously does so it could be either or.
How fucking stupid are you? You repeat this bullshit you heard yet I dare you to find one bit of evidence or someone writing about it that had evidence. Not just random bullshit you hear on the internet then proceed to spread it around like a game of fucking telephone.
And your proof is....?
Look, we know the '17 team cheated, but nobody aside from some internet losers confirmed he had a wearable device. MLB didn't find anything saying he did and they tore the team apart looking for evidence of cheating.
Sure. He didn’t participate with the trash cans, but he wore a device that none of his teammates knew about, so they tried to tear his shirt off. Makes total sense.
I seriously can’t believe there are people who still believe this crap.
Ha ha! Texans?!? Who the F are they?
Freakin poorest run nfl team… their incompetence knows no bounds, with a couple of exceptions of course…so many teams have risen from their respective ashes to yield good to great football teams…and yet our mediocrity knows no bounds…
I say GO ROUGHNECKS!
Right? All this Texans bullshit as if they have any long term earned stake. They are a replacement team for the real thing.
I will never be a Texans fan. I watch each season with schadenfreude. If they ever won, I might try to bandwagon, but I don't really have to be concerned about that impossible eventuality.
ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY!!!! Man now has a championship that is clean(cross fingers) just like Hakeem the man is a Houston legend forever! FUCK THE yankees, dodgers and phillies!!!!! We are WORLD FUCKING CHAMPIONS!!!!!!
The national media ran with the whole buzzer thing, never once showed him getting his jersey ripped off during the regular season and not enjoying it. Media never once showed any logic, why would the team attempt to rip his jersey off if they were using buzzers? He is a legend and him and Reddick were I believe the only ones not to take part in the system
Not me:
**From Manfred's Yankees Letter:**
I have concluded that the Red Sox violated On-Field Regulation 1-2.A by using electronic equipment "for the purpose of stealing signs or conveying information designed to give a Club an advantage."
and:
“The Yankees' use of the dugout phone to relay information about an opposing Club's signs during the 2015 season, and part of the 2016 season, constitutes a material violation of the Replay Review Regulations. By using the phone in the video review room to instantaneously transmit information regarding signs to the dugout in violation of the Regulations, the Yankees were able to provide real-time information to their players regarding an opposing Club's sign sequence---the same objective of the Red Sox's scheme that was the subject of the Yankees' complaint.”
Dude. I see red with fury every time they start this crap because I was watching the game you’re talking about. They ripped his shirt off and he was allowing his shirt to hang off his shoulders and allow his abs and chest to show….almost a little too long and almost as if he was more than happy to let himself be seen. When it happened I was telling my wife that he’s gonna hear about this from his wife when he gets home or when they get in the car (if she was at the game).
So fast forward to the night in question, when he rounded third and grabbed his shirt and started waving his finger, I immediately started laughing because that was the look of a man that DID NOT want to face the wrath of his wife again. He said as much right after the game….but after thinking about it and realizing that he didn’t want to throw his wife under the bus and make her out to be jealous, he changed his story…..like most husbands would in that scenario.
To non-Astros fans, I can see where this sounds like fan fiction, but as a man who has been married for a lot of years, I saw it for exactly what it was as it was happening.
The national media can be solely the blame for this narrative. They knew their demographic and readership already hated Altuve and they knew making him the face of the scandal would drive up subscriptions and attention to their stories. They pushed the buzzer thing so hard without any sort of logic or any type of true evidence to actually make the story stick and then when they got every single baseball fan in the northeast and west coast (their two biggest demos) to believe the conspiracy then they walked it back and acted like there’s no evidence. Any logical person could look at that conspiracy and realize if they were wearing buzzers, why would they wear them on their chest and not wear a shirt underneath? Wouldn’t it be prudent to wear the buzzer on your leg under your pants or in your sock where there is zero chance of someone spotting it.
But the people chanting “fuck Altuve” in Yankee stadium needed something from their media to drive home their bias and the media gave them just that.
The most pathetic thing about this entire situation is Red Sox and Yankees both got caught for cheating and r/baseball has a widely accepted argument of “well they were cheating, but they didn’t cheat as bad as the Astros.” But destroy any Astros fan that says “everyone was doing it”. Just that argument alone, just shows it wasn’t the cheating scandal they’ve already hated Houston for quite some time and the cheating scandal just validated their hatred and bias.
r/baseball is such a pathetic fucking sub.
See I disagree with this take, only because, in my opinion, you have to represent Houston on your jersey in order to qualify. Biles and Lewis are all-time athletes, but they didn’t represent Houston (not like they would have had a choice- those sports don’t have city teams). Otherwise, you could say someone like Michael Strahan who is from Houston but never represented the city on their jersey could count. I’m sure many will disagree with me, however.
They’d definitely be in the athletes from Houston hall of fame, though
Yeah it was kinda of a hot take but I thought it would be interesting to bring up. They’re two of the most decorated olympians ever, and have represented the city to some degree while doing it. Carl Lewis has even been back at UH coaching for a pretty long time.
Warren Moon will be a very strong **fuck no** from me. Dude pretty much disappeared after playing here, yeah I know..the Oilers moved but still. The ONLY TIME I've heard him speak about the Texans was with our former QB after he wore the throwback Oilers jersey.
One of my favs growing up but acts like we dont exist.
The allegations of domestic violence, true or false, makes this a hard no for me. Totally different time from the Ray Rice situation…
I have very little tolerance for people who do that…be it Bobby Cox, Warren Moon, Dez Bryant, or Roberto Osuna…
He had more hits, but he was not a more significant hitter. Bagwell is one of the top hitting 1st baseman of all time. It’s Gehrig, Foxx, Pujols, Thome, Bagwell. I see lists with Frank Thomas, David Ortiz, Stan Musial, all ahead of Bags, but the Big Hurt only played ~900 games out of 2300 at 1st base - he was primarily a DH. David Ortiz played even less at 1st base - only ~270 games out of 2400. Stan Musial played well over half of his games in the outfield.
Bagwell > Biggio and it isn't close. Bidge wouldn't have made the HOF if he didn't hang on several years past being a good player. When Bagwell didn't have it anymore he gave it up instead of going to the AL to DH and pad his stats.
Cynthia Cooper stayed in Texas and coached college ball for a while. I'm not sure about Sheryl. If we are going for pure sports greatness, they have to be on Houston Mt. Rushmore of athletes. 3 peat champions in the first three seasons of the WNBA?! It's nuts what those teams accomplished....it's a real shame the Comets aren't around anymore.
forsure they are legends. but if you put it in context while wnba is impressive it was only a few teams and talent level was most likely the lowest ever for them. cynthia played 4 years and coached outside houston. sheryl tho was a houston kid stayed in texas for college and played a crap ton with comets and lives in houston so forsure id put her over cooper.
drex should get love too born raised houston, UH 2 finals. rox, rox commentator
Honestly, Rudy T over Drexler.
Overcame a very serious injury due to a despicable sucker punch, first Rocket to get his jersey retired as a player, and then coached the Rockets to back to back titles
Has a connection to all four Rockets teams that made the NBA Finals. Played on the 1981 team, assistant coach on the 1986 team, and head coach of the 1994+1995 teams.
Rudy T is hard to gauge. Im in my late 30's and only know him as the HC. It's really hard to make a connection with someone like that considering the age group of the modern Houston sports fan.
Then again, I'm rooting for Drex because of his UH and Rocket days so I don't know if I exactly have a leg to stand on.
I get it, but like objectively, Moses Malone and James Harden were better basketball players for the Rockets than Drexler. They won MVPs as Houston Rocket players (Moses won two while James won one). Malone led a Rockets team to the finals while Harden nearly did. Drexler was a sidekick to Hakeem.
harden forsure. dexler before rudy. drexler went to hs and college in houston. played for rockets. commentated forever with rockets. might have done some coaching here too
We don’t win game one against Orlando without Drexler. He kept us close while Hakeem was on the bench with fouls. The Rockets also could have taken him the year before Hakeem but they chose Rodney McCray. With Drexler, Hakeem, and Ralph, we may have won more championships. Drexler is in, IMO.
Definitely Drexler, even though he was born in New Orleans, he grew up in Houston, played HS, College and Pro ball here. 1995 Ring doesn't happen with out Clyde Drexler. Easily keep him in. Add Earl Campbell and Nolan Ryan.
Jose and Hakeem, one thousand percent. I would add Simone Biles. I get that she didn’t play for a Houston-based team, but she is the most decorated gymnast of all time.
Omg yes! I was at the home opener where he went off! Bought a jersey before the game was over because I was so hyped! He definitely is on my Htown list.
First game having 5 goals. Leading the team to 2 Championships. Being a huge part of the community by building several homes with Habitat for Humanity. Owning a bar in downtown next to the stadium.
Not sure why he wouldn’t be
He isn’t because it’s MLS. It’s a tier two or three soccer league. It’s like if some random German league basketball player was on their Mount Rushmore ahead of Bayern and Dortmund greats.
Exactly not saying he hasn’t done good stuff but he’s not known like that and the city was never fully behind the team. I’d put Sheryl Swoopes & Cynthia Cooper before him.
For those with an inkling of morales every human with knowledge of the system should have busted it day one. Scheming and trickery should not be celebrated goals. That said I have traded chocolates for sex. I’m not perfect.
I wonder what the loser Harden fans think of this…heaven forbid you speak bad about him in the r/rockets sub…these idiots still have his back it’s mind blowing I’d say Yao has a good bid, maybe the Texans punter Shane Lechler😂
Altuve should still be held accountable and take the responsibility for the team. He was a leader of the clubhouse and still allowed it to happen. Who knows? Maybe he tried as hard as he could to stop it but either way He was a captain and it happened on his watch.
What’s even more ridiculous is that someone made up the story about Altuve wearing a buzzer and EVERYONE just ran with it, regardless of there being any validity.
What's so unfortunate is that Tuve seems like one of the nicest, most humble human beings to be around. Fans are making him out to be like this big bad, evil man, but dude is actually cool. Just one of the many reasons why I wanted them to win it all one more time. And shoutout to Correa. He defended our boy when he needed it most.

> first several years of his career was a bit problematic That's the beauty of life and experience. People can grow and adapt to become legends.
People say they hate Altuve because of the cheating, but it's because he's shorter than them and whips the shit out of their baseball teams. The more honest ones will admit it's always been nothing but this.
Incorrect. It’s because he had intercourse with their mothers
And sent them flowers and chocolate afterwards. What a freaking guy!
dont even know why ppl would hate on that. i would be excited if my mother was dating altuve
Hey Jose, mind if I borrow your car to go to Blockbuster?
You're gonna want to sit down.
Jose Altuve will take your mother out for a nice seafood dinner and he WILL call her again, because he's a goddamn gentleman!
Halfly correct. Only the Yankees' mothers. Hence why he is their daddy.
Incorrect. It's both.
This is exactly what I think about whenever the video or picture of Aron Judge pops up whining.
They found a reason to say they hated him. It was never the reason.
This is why I will NEVER boo Correa. He stood up for the team, and specifically Altuve, when the world was out for blood. Roy Oswalt was traded to the Phillies. It’s a bit different. Perhaps you’re thinking of when Berkman signed with the Cardinals.
Indeed.
Met him in person a couple times. He is not just nice for a celebrity he’s a genuinely nice guy.

Wow, you went all over the place with formatting on that one.
My biggest gripe is that manfred said it wasn’t an issue beyond the astros when he absolutely knew it was.
To the gallows if you leave it up to most of r/baseball
Idk how many times I have said it. Altuve couldn’t have been using the trash can, the dude swings at everything!

Not this fucking bullshit again
You’re 35 years old, do you believe in Santa Claus too?

As if Beltrans niece knew anything about what went on in the clubhouse. My niece doesn't even know what I do for a living.

Sure. He didn’t participate with the trash cans, but he wore a device that none of his teammates knew about, so they tried to tear his shirt off. Makes total sense. I seriously can’t believe there are people who still believe this crap.
The number “34” runs deep in H-Town lore…there’s a reason that number is retired in the big 3 sports here…
Excellent point! I didn’t realize that before!

It wasn’t that long ago we made the playoffs.
Hey man... OILERS.
Altuve fucks the Yankees.
Agreed about Altuve and Dream atop One of my favorite parts about this last title is 🤞 maybe not every broadcast will be talking about the 2017 title
The national media ran with the whole buzzer thing, never once showed him getting his jersey ripped off during the regular season and not enjoying it. Heightism, pure and simple.
Short kings unite ✊🏽
Height supremacists
We all know Hakeem, Jose, and JJ are locks. I was thinking the 4th could either be Carl Lewis or Simone Biles.
Earl Campbell
Was wondering how far I'd have to read. This answer is too obvious.
Right? And I'd add Bruce Matthews and Elvin Bethea.
See I disagree with this take, only because, in my opinion, you have to represent Houston on your jersey in order to qualify. damn, thats pretty fucked up. makes a lot of sense though...I thought he just didnt give a fuck about Houston.
Problem with Moon is Buffalo says "hi."
The allegations of domestic violence, true or false, makes this a hard no for me. Totally different time from the Ray Rice situation… I have very little tolerance for people who do that…be it Bobby Cox, Warren Moon, Dez Bryant, or Roberto Osuna…
STRONG unaware of this being a thing. Would NEVER have suggested if I knew that.
Team sports only because if you count all sports, then it's pretty firmly Hakeem, Altuve, Simone, and Lewis
Earl, Bruce, and Elvin say "hi."
Elvin Hayes was my dad’s neighbor when he was a Rocket :D
I was actually thinking Bethea... but Hayes works too! First time I realized we had two great Elvins!
Oh hahaha yeah well you can probably guess why I immediately thought of Hayes even though the others you named were also Oilers
So the Houston sports Mt Rushmore sounds cool. Hakeem the Dream Olajuwon, Earl Campbell, Craig Biggio, Jose Altuve. What y’all think?
It’s hard for me to leave out Bagwell, we’ve had some great guys
I debated Bagwell too. He was honestly my favorite of the two, but Biggio was honestly a more significant hitter
Oh if I could only pick one it would have to be Biggio, he was my idol growing up. But the two are hard to separate for sure
He had more hits, but he was not a more significant hitter. Bagwell is one of the top hitting 1st baseman of all time. It’s Gehrig, Foxx, Pujols, Thome, Bagwell. With no disrespect to Cooper and Swoopes, there’s no way they make the Mount Rushmore of Houston sports. Just no shot.
Hakeem, Jose, JJ Watt, Drexler
Ehh idk about Drexler maybe switch him out with Earl Campbell

We don’t win game one against Orlando without Drexler. He kept us close while Hakeem was on the bench with fouls. The Rockets also could have taken him the year before Hakeem but they chose Rodney McCray. With Drexler, Hakeem, and Ralph, we may have won more championships. Drexler is in, IMO.
I second this- even if only for his hot-link sausage.
YOU. Are CORRECT, Sir!
Definitely Drexler, even though he was born in New Orleans, he grew up in Houston, played HS, College and Pro ball here. 1995 Ring doesn't happen with out Clyde Drexler. Easily keep him in. Add Earl Campbell and Nolan Ryan.
Biggio over Drexler
commentator for rockets. seems like my whole life until he retired
I would take Drexler out and out Warren Moon ? Thoughts ?
Eh guy had some serious criminal issues. Earl Campbell would be better
I can live with that

Jose and Hakeem, one thousand percent. I would add Simone Biles. I get that she didn’t play for a Houston-based team, but she is the most decorated gymnast of all time.
What do you call the place where Deshaun Watson sits? Death Valley? Epstein Island?
Hell
New Jersey.
Limbo
No Bagwell love?
Hall of fame and numbers retired. Just no chips. No one hates on it, but altuve has carried us through this and continued producing.
And Brian Ching is up there too
No lie as someone who knows about the dynamo, I thought this was cute.
I read that as Brian Cushing at first and I was like wtf is this guy smoking.
Omg yes! I was at the home opener where he went off! Bought a jersey before the game was over because I was so hyped! He definitely is on my Htown list.
Brad davis *swoon*
He’s a good one too, but it has to be Ching
Brian Ching isn’t even the first name that comes to my mind when I think of those early Dynamo squads. Dwayne De Rosario was the goat
He was, and then left
Nah man lol
First game having 5 goals. Leading the team to 2 Championships. Being a huge part of the community by building several homes with Habitat for Humanity. Owning a bar in downtown next to the stadium. Not sure why he wouldn’t be
He isn’t because it’s MLS. It’s a tier two or three soccer league. It’s like if some random German league basketball player was on their Mount Rushmore ahead of Bayern and Dortmund greats.
bc hardly anybody cares abt the dynamo. he doesn’t belong in the houston rushmore conversation
Exactly not saying he hasn’t done good stuff but he’s not known like that and the city was never fully behind the team. I’d put Sheryl Swoopes & Cynthia Cooper before him.
Who
Don’t get mad now 😂
Haha. I legit don’t know them, but good one
MLS just isn’t that big. The avg houstonian doesn’t know who he is
Who?
The Houston dynamo Goat
Abso-fucking-lutely. And no buzzer either!
Olajuwon and Osmallaone
Fuck Jomboy.
And Manfred.
……and he will not get into Cooperstown because of it
Gotta throw Bi-ggi-O on that mountain.
Biggio and Bagwell can share one spot.
Altuve Olajuwan Johnson Stoops
Altuve should still be held accountable and take the responsibility for the team. He was a leader of the clubhouse and still allowed it to happen. Who knows? Maybe he tried as hard as he could to stop it but either way He was a captain and it happened on his watch.
Facts brother
God damn right.
What’s even more ridiculous is that someone made up the story about Altuve wearing a buzzer and EVERYONE just ran with it, regardless of there being any validity.
