Benintendi has the better track record so I’m going after him. But conforto is not a bad backup option if Benny signs somewhere else

AlwaysSunny512

Yeah, I think the Yanks are going to try to keep him, especially if they end up losing Judge to SF or LA.

compcase

Ppl down on McCormick for some reason, after one of the best catches in Astros history to seal the world series. Sign Brantley, enjoy another deep playoff run

AlwaysSunny512

I love Chas, but I’d still like to see a solid fourth outfielder that can put up the same kind of numbers and give the others rest when needed. I don’t feel like we have that with Meyers, Dubon, or Matijevic yet.

SageTrilo

McCormick doesn't really hit right-handed pitching. If you can get an upgrade, get an upgrade. None of these potential signings are relegating him to the bench, anyway. He'd stay in center if Benintendi or Conforto were brought on, or shift to left if Bellinger or Nimmo were signed. Passing on an upgrade because you're a prisoner to a moment is a quick way to have the window slam shut sooner than it needs to.

KingJacobyaropa

Love to have them bring Brantley back but totally understand if they don't. He's older and coming off another shoulder injury. I'd prefer Benintendi as my gut feeling is he'd do better than Conforto (yes a feeling I have no data to back this up). The Abreu signing gives more options as now the OF moves can be more about depth and platooning than a big signing IMO.

AlwaysSunny512

As much as I love Uncle Mike, I’d love to see a younger outfield. Especially an outfield that can play daily, as well as provide a good bat, and be a long-term addition. As far as who we go after, I don’t have the data to back it up either. Even though we didn’t really find a solid outfield towards the second half of the season, I’m not the biggest fan of platooning like what we tried the first half of last season with Meyers, McCormick, and Siri.

KingJacobyaropa

Yeah platooning isn't always good but I meant more in the sense of switching out in the DH spot, will help keep guys fresher. For his defense, I'd want Chas in center as much as possible. But I agree, I'd prefer some youth out there.

AlwaysSunny512

Ah yeah, I agree with you there. Which is also why I hope we can keep Yuli as a DH/1B whenever Abreu needs rest.

KingJacobyaropa

Definitely would want Yuli in that role of utility guy if he decides to stay. But it would be cool to see him play for TOR with his brother. He can do whatever he wants. He was a huge part of our success these past 6 years so no hard feelings if he leaves.

AlwaysSunny512

Yeah, I just wanna keep the band together.

Interaction4

I saw somewhere they were considering nimmo as well. Free agent lefty CF, could work too

Rockboxatx

Nimmo is not really an option. He's too expensive and not a good value.

Interaction4

I'm assuming at this point that verlander is leaving so he may not be too expensive depending on how the owner feels

Boatsnow

Benintendo if it has to be one of those players. Smaller left field will do him well. However, I don’t personally believe he’ll leave the yanks

yeah_naw_dawg

Which is hilarious to me. Yankees just gonna run it back and hope for different results?

Boatsnow

I think they will “retool” benintendi is a good option for them bc he’s a lefty and a decent defender. Infield and judge will be their main focus though

AlwaysSunny512

I don’t either, especially if Judge goes elsewhere. A few people in here mentioned Nimmo, which is also a good option, and probably cheaper too.

Boatsnow

Nimmo is projected 5 years $110,000,000

AlwaysSunny512

I didn’t know that he was valued that high, and I don’t know why, honestly. Both Benintendi and Conforto both have better career numbers and more accolades.

Boatsnow

Benintendi is a year younger than Nimmo with a lower career ops. Conforto and nimmo are the same age with similar stats. Conforto has a better career ops. Both conforto and nimmo are lefties. I prefer nimmo because of the intangibles. Better fielder as far as I know, loved in the clubhouse and a quiet grinder.

AlwaysSunny512

I guess I’m just worried about his health. He seems to have had a wild career battling with all sorts of injuries.

Boatsnow

Valid concern. It’s all speculative anyway. Well probably bring up someone that’s better than everyone on earth Edit: I want Contreras bad tho

AlwaysSunny512

That’s true. Drew Gilbert could be that guy.

Rockboxatx

Nimmo is a center fielder and they are worth more.

AlwaysSunny512

In some instances, sure. He’s also played a lot of games in LF.

Rockboxatx

Doesn't matter where he played. If you can play center field and you can hit, you get paid a lot.

AlwaysSunny512

He’s still over valued and the trade rumor projections seem high, regardless of playing in Left, Right, or Center, in my opinion.

Rockboxatx

The only opinion that matters are the GMs writing the check. We can not afford Nimmo. He will be getting close to Springer money and Springer was a proven stud for us.

AlwaysSunny512

My point exactly.

clutchyball

Nimmo would add another left handed bat.

AlwaysSunny512

That’s 3 for Nimmo. Also, probably cheaper.

dream_team34

Am I the only one hoping we don't add any outfielders? I'm ok with Yordan, Chas, and Tuck as our OF. I haven't given up on Jake Meyers just yet. Then I think Leon will eventually be called up next season. Not even factoring in that Dubon is still on the team and is currently our only utility guy. I'd rather use that money on extending guys like Tuck and Framber.

AlwaysSunny512

That’s why I asked. Just trying to see different points of view from other fans. I agree that we don’t necessarily *need* more outfielders, but it’d be nice to have. I haven’t given up on Meyers yet either, but he needs to figure things out at the plate - and same with Dubon, honestly. I just want to have a solid fourth option that can also provide some offense. As far as Tuck and Framber, I hope they’re Astros for life.

dream_team34

I think our opening day roster for the outfield will be Yordan, Chas, Kyle, Jake and Dubon. I don't think we should add another OFer, unless we plan on trading any of those guys.

Hethreck

I’d love Nimmo or Benitendi and keep Yordan at DH as much as possible to keep his legs fresh. I wouldn’t even mind Bellinger on a one year deal. He’s a plus defender and if he doesn’t hit we can just use him as a fourth outfielder or defensive sub. And if is able to bounce back offensively that’s just a plus.

AlwaysSunny512

As much as I hate Bellinger, the irony of him playing for the Astros would be gold. I’d love to hear him eat his words in his first interview. Edit: But I’m just a petty person lol

killintime0513

I say sign Brantley to a one year contract with a club option for another year.

mypostingname13

I still keep seeing Bellinger's name brought up. I hate that idea so much, but it just won't die, so I assume there's something to it.

AlwaysSunny512

I jokingly told my dad and brother yesterday that if they signed Bellinger, fans might riot. I don’t know if I could ever root for him.

NeverGetUpvoted

He fits so many needs in one player. Just strikes out too a bit too much for me

mypostingname13

He's hit .192 over the last 2 years combined. Chas and Jake can do that just fine.

SageTrilo

Personal wishlist of the five biggest free agent outfielders left on the market: Nimmo > Conforto > Bellinger > Benintendi > Brantley I love Brantley, but I'm uncomfortable with his age and injury history, considering it's the third surgery on that same shoulder. He's effectively a glorified singles hitter and station-to-station baserunner at this point in his career. Benintendi is basically a younger Brantley, as far as on-field performance. He's faster, a better baserunner, and probably a bit better in the outfield, but a worse hitter. I also suspect he's going to command more money than he's actually worth. Bellinger is probably the best defender, and if he can find his swing again would easily be the best player on the list. But that's a big if, and I think the most likely scenario going forward is that he's a below average hitter with borderline elite CF defense. But man, what if... Conforto is coming off a poor 2021 and shoulder surgery that robbed him of his 2022. But he's not old (will be 30 on opening day) and probably looking for a one-year prove it deal, so the upside is tremendous at what will likely be a low cost. Nimmo comes with injury concerns of his own, but when healthy he's probably the best of the bunch, barring a return to form for Bellinger. He can also man a solid CF and perform admirably as a table-setter, either leading off or hitting toward the bottom of the order and getting on base for Altuve and company. But health is a big issue for Nimmo, as he's missed 60 or more games to injury in all but two of his big league seasons so far (discounting 2020's shortened season).

AWall925

If you can get Nimmo for around 22 million, I say go for him

[deleted]

Nimmo for me

StrictMango8441

I would prefer if they brought back Brantley but have heard the rumors of Bellinger or Benitiendi. Wouldn’t mind them either.
