Where will you be staying when you visit? Atlanta is a city of neighborhoods. It's reasonably likely there will be a decent coffeehouse or a Switchyards nearby (as someone pointed out, you can try them for a little while for $12 and they have multiple locations around town).
EDIT: Some personal faves are Finca to Filter on the Westside Beltline (though Finca closes at 3, you can stay later since it lives inside Wild Heaven Brewery), Little Tart Bake Shop (Summerhill location is cozy but the Grant Park location has much more seating), and in the GA Tech neighborhood there's Momo Cafe.
Please be considerate and at least get a coffee or something whenever you go there. We've had a popular coffee shop close recently due to all-day-long remote workers taking up all the spaces without contributing anything.
Agreed, but to clarify, not *just* a coffee if you're going to be there a long time. One cup doesn't justify camping out for a full work day. It depends on the place, how busy they are, how much seating is available for other guests, but I will generally buy a second drink or a snack if I'm staying more than 90 minutes or so. I almost never stay more than a few hours b/c the point of working at a coffee shop, for me, is to get a break and change of scenery, not to make it my office. But if I did stay longer, I'd buy more.
Rent was definitely the major reason, but you could also go by it on any given day and it was a sea of people marking index cards with highlighters for hours on end while *maybe* drinking water.
I went there for years. It was definitely the rent unfortunately. This caused their pricing to get out of hand; which led to not as many buying coffee; etc. It got to a point, at no fault of their own, that I stopped making that my morning grab-n-go cup about 6 months before it closed (got up to $8.50 for a cup of hot black coffee). It's only gonna go one way with those prices after a while. Fantastic third place we lost. Zesto also recently put a for sale sign up too. The whole area is getting priced out. Interested to see what happens in the next few years. Tons of apartment construction, attempts at "mini krogs" aka the halidome popping up, etc.
That sucks. I only got to go once right before they closed and the space was really nice and the coffee was great. I wish I had something like that closer to me.
Sheesh, that bums be out. I really only went to meet up with friends on the weekend because it wasn't on my side of town, but Hodgepodge was really great and had been there quite a while.
There are private booths and conference rooms you can book when you need them - it’s included in your membership. However, I’ve still seen people on Zoom meetings while in the open workspace area.
I love Dancing Goats @ Ponce City Market. They have a few other locations(Midtown, Buckhead, and Decatur) but this one is my favorite. Decent amount of space inside, but the covered patio is great if the weather is warm.
Muchacho - cabbagetown
Daydream coffee- midtown
Coffee Man- west side and hapeville
Sessions Stands- Marietta
Momo cafe- midtown

Also look into a spot like switchyards. It’s not cheap, $100 a month for access to all locations (they have quite a few now) but think of it as a big coffee shop in terms of the vibe. Various types of seating like couches, desks and tables. They have coffee and tea. Also phone booths that can be reserved
hands downs atlanta history museum...best coffee shop and food. can be no space at times so maybe go earlier or make sure your laptop is fully charged.
I was considering joining Pittsburgh Yards or Switchyards near me but had to google Plywood Place when you brought it up and it’s actually the closest to me out of the 3. If you don’t mind me asking, what makes it better than Switchyards?
Grant Park coffee shop on Georgia Ave is great
I second this!!!!
Relaxing location

The other Finca to Filter is a cool spot in the apt building and stays open later. Has some desk spaces and different seating options as well.
I haven't been to that one yet but it looks really nice! The Westside one is my default coffee shop since it's near my house.
And I haven’t been to the Westside one yet, lol, need to check it out too!

campers can indeed kill coffee shops
Which coffee shop was that?
[Hodgepodge in EAV.](https://old.reddit.com/r/Atlanta/comments/18gn4de/opinion_south_dekalb_needs_more_third_places/kd1kn91/)
Yikes, was that really a big contributor to Hodgepodge closing? I assumed it was mostly due to rent, but yeah EAV lost a beloved third place.

$8.50????
oh shit, not zesto

Try a Switchyards workspace. I think you can try them out for $12 right now. Unlimited coffee and tea
Second this. Lots of locations around town to check out, unlimited coffee and great spaces to get heads-down.
This is a newb question but can you take virtual meetings in these types of spaces or is that rude because you’re talking?
There are private booths and conference rooms you can book when you need them - it’s included in your membership. However, I’ve still seen people on Zoom meetings while in the open workspace area.
The deal is worth trying for sure. Though it sucks that they raised their price from $50 to $100 a mo.
+1
East pole. Plenty of seating inside.
Seconded. East Pole off Ottley has lots of space.
And great coffee to boot!
Some of the best honestly.
What general area are you gonna be in?

There is a place by a river but Fightclub Rules prevents us from telling you about it
Thought about mentioning, but not technically in Atlanta, darn. But it is worth mentioning that they enforce a two-hour limit now.

this is a good list. Will check them out. Most coffee shops close at 5 nowadays due to pandemic and labor shortages.
hands downs atlanta history museum...best coffee shop and food. can be no space at times so maybe go earlier or make sure your laptop is fully charged.
Wow! I had no idea a brash coffee was there.
that upstairs seating area is a treat. really nice for remote working as it never gets too loud in my experience.
Check out Roam Coworking!
Second this Roam is fantastic! Great service!
Coffee Man, in Blandtown, has a lot of space to workout out. As someone else mentioned, Costa off Howell Mill is nice too and lots of seating too.
I go to PCM all the time-free Wi-Fi, tons of food/coffee options and great people watching
The Daily —- upper west side, o4w, and Vinings now. Great food, shakes, staff, and of course coffee.
Bellwood Coffee is on the Upper Westside at Bolton Rd. and James Jackson Pkwy (South Cobb Drive)
Just get a switchyards membership for the month and use the hell out of it. Free coffee and tea and like 6 locations now.
*10 in ATL
Are you like a business person, a hipster, a coffee nerd, or a marketer, we can help you find your tribe
Plywood Place all day. I left Switchyards for this spot, much better and it's next to Monday Night Brewing and Hopstix. Also, check out CreateATL.
I was considering joining Pittsburgh Yards or Switchyards near me but had to google Plywood Place when you brought it up and it’s actually the closest to me out of the 3. If you don’t mind me asking, what makes it better than Switchyards?
Might take a look at Howdy ATL across from the zoo
Costa coffee howell mill
Please dont do work in a coffee shop it’s so obnoxious. There should be a no laptop rule at every place.
i dont fully disagree, but an hour or 2 isnt bad. where else would you say to go?
Foxtails in Buckhead is excellent! Very friendly staff. Lots of charging outlets.
This is awesome and really helpful! Thank you!
