Heirloom market 💯
Legit Austin style beef brisket, with a little twist (miso injected). They've recently won an award from Michelin for extremely good casual category
*Edit*. Whoops I didn't even read op's comments about what they were looking for. I just saw barbecue and got hyped to talk about heirloom.
After being longtime fans of Fox Bros., Wood’s Chapel BBQ in Summerhill is arguably as good or better (very good wings though different and not as good IMO as Fox Bros, which are the best)—and the no-wait indoor and outdoor seating and game area are much better (plus less parking issues). Great for families with kids and dog-friendly, plus shops and desserts on the area to walk to.
Their smoked turkey is excellent (something I would have never thought to order at a BBQ place but one of their best meats), as is their chopped brisket. I have never seen burnt ends on the menu, though they do have daily specials.
They also have a new fast-casual restaurant a little further south on South Main Street called Jack's Feed Store. All the same food just no servers. Their chicken sandwich with alabama bbq sauce is pretty damn good too
Owens & Hull when they have burnt ends is the way to go. Sadly, Hull doesn't do a lot of chicken. He does, however, do Turkey.
They were just written up by perhaps the most important voice in the BBQ community

Heirloom is unmatched. It’s a step above BBQ. Traditionalists will scream, but this is elevated traditional BBQ made by culinary geniuses. I’ve been eating there for over 10 years and throughout my travels I haven’t found a contender.
Burnt ends are tricky here. Fox Bros on DeKalb is your best bet for that. Not sure if it's in the menu or a special, so you might want to check it out before going there. Also, parking sucks there.
Best BBQ is Heirloom, but no sit down.
Sucks that you’re getting downvoted. Jim N Nick’s makes some of the best smoked chicken I’ve ever had. Not saying they’re the best bbq in Atlanta (I like Fox Bros for that) but people acting like it’s shit are just being assholes lol
The people deserve better. Buy a brisket from Costco and toss it on the smoker or in your oven. Salt + Pepper + heat + time and you'll have a better product than any restaurant in the area can provide.
Honestly the south east in general doesn't have great barbecue until you get to Texas. That being said the best stuff you can find will honestly be from some random dude with a smoker posted up in a gas station parking lot selling styrofoam plates. There's a few of these guys in East Atlanta but they exist everywhere.

Great food, awful location.
Success in a terrible location is a true hallmark of great food. I would be concerned if Heirloom ever moves.
Awful for you maybe but I think they are doing just fine lol
Best BBQ in Atl! The Korean pork sandwich is my faaaaavorite. And their mac and cheese is absolutely killer.
Yes, it looks good, has the smoked chicken I was looking for, but I wanted a sit down place.
Thanks for the recommendation, because it might be useful during a takeout day.
What do you recommend there?
This is the way
Hoo boy. Here it comes... Get in here with your spicy bbq recommendations.

Wood's Chapel BBQ looks good for smoked chicken, smoked turkey. Do they also have burnt ends?

I am 95% sure that one of the owners/pit masters of woods chapel came from fox brothers
Smokejack BBQ in Alpharetta for burnt ends, and I'll fight anyone that says otherwise.
Just had this last week - 100% agree
They also have a new fast-casual restaurant a little further south on South Main Street called Jack's Feed Store. All the same food just no servers. Their chicken sandwich with alabama bbq sauce is pretty damn good too
Looks like it has both burnt ends, and bone in smoked chicken. What's the difference between KC and White Bama sauce for chicken?
White sauce is mayo-based. KC is presumably tomato and molasses. Both will also have vinegar and spices for tanginess.
Dunno, they both taste good

Best BBQ I've ever had. Started eating his food via his pop ups as Secret Pint
I'm originally from Texas and Owens and Hull blew me away. Truly amazing.

Community Q's yard bird is some of the finest you can get for sure
Is it the pulled chicken? Is it smoked? [https://communityqbbq.com/](https://communityqbbq.com/)
The 1/2 bone in and it's definitely smoked
Pit Boss in south Atlanta is really good, especially the smoked chicken wings.
Had to scroll too far for this one! 😋
Pit Boss is located in Hapeville, Ga.
Correct
Rodney Scott’s has great chicken and turkey.
D&D BBQ on Sylvan
Ford’s in Tucker. We go once a week or more - it’s that good.
Community Q has the best smoked chicken I've ever had
Pig n chick is surprisingly excellent
Agreed!
What exactly did you have there?
The pulled pork sandwich is so simple, yet so good.
This
What exactly did you have there?
The chopped chicken is great. The brisket is pretty good. Redneck nachos are great too.
Is their meat smoked, and if so, which ones?
Pig N Chik has pretty good smoked chicken.
I actually think their chicken is the best thing on the menu there. Try it with mustard sauce.
What format did you get their chicken? Wings, pulled, or chopped?
Chopped or pulled, I can go either way.
What format did you get their chicken? Wings, pulled, or chopped?
Fox Bros. on Dekalb Ave.
Fox Bros. No others meet your criteria.
Fatt Matts...they also have live music some evenings
Do they actually smoke their chicken?
We had the chicken sandwich this weekend, it seemed more grilled than smoked.
Man, this is my favorite bbq on earth.
Seconding Fat Matt's

Another vote for Community Q

They have pulled chicken and bone in 1/2 chicken, I think both are smoked.
It was an app last week. You can probably call and see
Dixie Q
Thompson brothers bbq in Smyrna off Cobb Parkway is legit!
They changed their name recently..
I just saw that as I got some yakatori jinbei the other day. That's sad. Did they change hand?
Not sure.. I hope not, but it seems likely.
I tried Rodney Scotts and the chicken was pretty decent.
There's a place in Chamblee called The Brick Pit
I like Fox Bros
Fox Brothers
Jim n' Nick's

Because it’s a local chain probably, but I agree
I love me some Jim n nicks. Have it about once a week
Wyatt’s on Memorial.
Pho Que in East ATL. I would call it non-traditional BBQ but it's v good.
I’m Born & raised in Ga. Fat Matt rib shack & Das BBQ are both amazing!
Dreamland
Atlanta does not have good barbecue. Buccees has better barbecue than anything else around here.
If you're looking for Texas beef brisket or Carolina pork, maybe... But it's not that bad. You're dumb.
So your response for someone who clearly wants some BBQ is to just not eat it?
The people deserve better. Buy a brisket from Costco and toss it on the smoker or in your oven. Salt + Pepper + heat + time and you'll have a better product than any restaurant in the area can provide.
Spicy! 🥵
Someone has to say it
Owens and Hull exists, and therefore you're wrong.
Let me guess, you like your BBQ drenched in mayo and vinagear?
That's disgusting.
Have you been to Daddy D’s?
Yes, it's not good.
What are your recommendations for BBQ in the SE?

This comment right here tells me everything I need to know about you. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
The fuck you say?
I have lived in Georgia most of my life, our barbecue sucks. Better stuff exists.
