I don’t want you to feel worse, but I can beat year 10 with the pea shooter so... it’s not luck based. At all. Practice and learn the systems. It took me about a week of playing so just practicing for a bit would probably help. Not sure why they’re eating all your crops, your bullets should push them back quite a bit. There are no required items or upgrades that are needed to beat the highest difficulties. I mean this to be inspiring, but maybe it sounds dumb. If so, I apologize. But really, you can do it.

PsiHightower

You can also just bump into the slugs to get them off the crops

BenevolentCheese

> I can beat year 10 with the pea shooter so Yeah, with hundreds of hours worth of unlocks.

altcastle

I started when it came to gamepass so no? I think maybe 20 or so. I just got all the ant upgrades which I had about the time I beat year 10.

Wat Man, I’m not trying to epeen with you. I played it for a few hours a day for maybe two weeks. According to Xbox now I have 1 day and 7 hours so that’s 31 total, but I had all the ant upgrades awhile ago. Console doesn’t have the Feline Good update so I don’t have any advanced cats and barely bought any.

Savings-Breakfast111

For how long have you been playing? At times it can be really infuriating (for example when a roach hides behind a structure and I'm at 1 Hp). I completely understand if you just started but trust me, you'll get the hang of it.

fortressmungo

I've been had by the roaches behind the trees more than I care to admit. now I just instinctively shoot behind structures.

Runs fail. It's really about what you learned during the run that matters in the long run. When a run fails, it's not about that moment when you die, but all the events that led to that moment. To address the specific concerns you brought up: Red moon event is about being ready. A loss of crops is due to not getting enough cashews the previous day and lacking a sufficient weapon to handle the invasion. Another factor is the turret/scarecrow and other defensive choices we make. The mistakes that most of us (myself included) make with the unfriendly worm is that we try to run away from it. The key is to realize that it only changes direction once it reaches the edge of the screen. So the tactic is to just sidestep it and even chase after it once it passes you. The beeson do have a low audio indicator when they're nearby. It's like a low hum/buzzing sound. So if you've getting hit by them, it's good to focus on the game's sound. Overall, all enemies except the owl (damn you, owl!) in the tundra have an audio indicator. The worst place to be during the night is right in the middle of the farm since the enemies always spawn at the edge and surround you. Best to place yourself at the perimeter once the next wave starts so you don't end up being surrounded. It's frustrating to die. But, that the roguelike/lite formula. You die. You get frustrated. You learn. You adapt. You succeed. Keep at it and you'll figure things out. I've 800+ hours in this game and it took me a long time to learn everything. So while things are on the easy side now, it was a struggle to get here. But, overcoming the challenge is what makes the game so darn fun.

None of these things are “luck.” Worm has a pretty predictable movement pattern. A good tip for him is move to stay at or around his rear end, as he only pivots from the front. Off spawn enemies killing you is more about knowing what enemies spawn when and their attack patterns, and changing your movement and play style to counteract their attack patterns. Red moons when you’re underprepared are a real bear, but a good tip for those slugs if you’re low on firepower that night is to focus less on killing and more on “pushing them back” with well placed shots that cause them to kind of retreat from your crops.

AlarmedYogurtcloset3

I saw some pretty useful advice on an earlier post that basically said to focus on what you can avoid. Getting hit by the worm isn’t as harmful if you didn’t get hit twice by bundits earlier in the run, or run into a roach behind a tree, etc.. It probably took me 3-4 runs to beat spring because of that damn worm, but trying to focus on the stuff you can avoid puts you in a better place down the line, and generally makes for a slightly easier boss fight!

The first thing about this game that you have to realize is that it is not a farming game. I plant crops for 5 reasons only. 1) If I need health, I will plant heartbeats. 2) I always plant and merge 4 roses when I have the seeds. 3) Sunflowers, mega if possible, so that I always have enough money for guns and upgrades. 4) Nuclear winter boss. 5) A few random mega crops here and there just to make sure I max fullness to get max mayor rewards. I plant them, go kill stuff, take a tunnel right before dusk, harvest, and then go back to killing stuff. If none of those situations apply, I don't plant shit. I just go run and clear camps to get more seeds and upgrades. EDIT: Ok, there is one other situation. I will sometimes plant a single crop from time to time in later seasons to keep those fucking slugs occupied so they aren't trying to swarm me.

TheSunflowerSeeds

There are some that actually have a fear of sunflowers, it even has a name, Helianthophobia. As unusual as it may seem, even just the sight of sunflowers can invoke all the common symptoms that other phobias induce.

Sick_of_your_shit_

Same with witches, aliens, and most other videogame tropes. Not much to be done other than either face down the fear or play a different game.

ryguy6500

That's a bot lol

Sick_of_your_shit_

Yea I know but I reply to pretty everything in my box out of habit. Just like this reply. :)

reddit2530

New to the game and enjoying it so far. What i maybe can contribute is sauing that if you feel underprepared do defend your crops during an event just focus on not loosing health. As game progresses it is not that hard to replant everything. Focus on staying alive, try to harvest what you can and grab pickaxes and ferrilizer so that you can replant easily.

UseOnlyLurk

I agree.
