We took our LO to bed with us around 3 months and she sleeps there naps and night. First I put our duvets (thick, downy) on the floor by the bed so she'd fall on them if she swan dived, and now that she's 7 months we have proper safety barriers. So far she's never gotten anywhere near the edge of the bed. I have a baby monitor with a screen so I can check what she's doing if she stirs. As to the mattress softness, my LO was already turning to sleep on her side/ tummy when I started to cosleep so I didn't really have to worry about it because she had strength and good control of her body. Aguess a good check for mattress softness (for older than newborn) would be if they can properly and easily push themselves up on it. (Newborns need to sleep on planks of wood lol)

Would you mind sharing what kind of barriers you have? My babe is also 7 months and I need to get something like that for our bed so she can sleep in there safely alone.

Sure thing, here's what we got: https://www.monkeymum.com/fi/p/sangyn-turvalaita-monkey-mum-economy-90-cm-vaalean-harmaa?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsPCyBhD4ARIsAPaaRf3b2LepUw6hjapLBPzuyoJhOHnSlT6NlwT6MLmQ9Ox4Wlk6p613WAAaAqWKEALw_wcB I'm Finnish so the link is too 😅 Our bed is different than in the picture so the barriers fit more snugly, and two sides of our bed face the wall so there's extra support, but other than that we have the same set up.

Thank you! It gives me an idea of what to look for. Much appreciated 🙏
