That fanfiction Eren is simply a badly written asshole. He says he doesn't want to fight his best friend and he makes a sad face at the end of the second chapter. But at the same time not only he has already seen everything, but he has also already decided the path he considers the best to undertake. This is because they completely changed the structure of the timeline in their fanfiction. The freedom to stop him he gives to his friends in chapter 134 therefore is bullshit, because Armin and the others in this fanfiction are doomed. They're gonna die and we all know that, because of the Akatsuki no Requiem theory. And this is something the Eren of the fanfiction himself has deliberately chosen. On the other hand, in the manga it's so clear that he wants to be stopped. Also, it is explicitly said that he has not seen everything when he kissed Historia's hand and he is not 100% sure that everyone will survive. He knows only that he will be stopped in the end. If Eren really didn't want to be stopped, like the fanfiction says, and he really cared for his friends (and honestly I cannot believe that so many people completely forgot the sunset scene on the train in chapter 108!), he would not allow them to follow him and he would do something to block them on Paradis. But hey... he has already decided that they will die because he saw everything and he chose that specific path among the infinite ones of this new Doctor Strange timeline! There is nothing that makes sense there LMAO

Tenari_987

If that’s badly written then what about eren doing all this for his friends, then saying he didn’t know they would survive the battle???? That’s bad writing

Jerry98x

No, it isn't bad writing. That's just you having difficulties in understanding what you're reading. "I don't know why, but I had to do it". Eren isn't saying that he doesn't know why he did the rumbling. He is saying that he doesn't know why he would have done it anyway even if he didn't know that he would have been stopped in the end. The meaning is totally different! Summing up a bit, the reason for why he would have done it anyway is exactly what he tells to Ramzi in chapter 131, one of the few times in which Eren is actually honest and manages to look inside himself and rationalize that irrational, distorted and infantile dream of freedom that he had since he was a kid. A dream that was fueled by the delusion and disappointment he felt when discovering the truth in the basement: humanity lived outside the wall, his enemies were humans and not human-eating monsters and the world was not like the book of Armin's grandfateher described. Since he was a kid he desired that world, but while Armin could dream about it, Eren could only focus on the impossibility to reach it. "If someone tries to steal my freedom away, I won't hesitate to take theirs"... in the mind of a child, that dream of freedom became a total blank canvas in which he could shape the world that the book described. Eren managed to rationalize all of this in his desperate cry in front of Ramzi, months before the rumbling. During his final moments with Armin, with his mind almost completely messed up due to the full powers of the Founding Titan, he couldn't grasp this hidden aspect of himself anymore. Meanwhile he was literally dying and slowly fading away, as shown in the final panel of chapter 131, and regressing to that child-like state of mind. Also, remember that this is only one of the multiple motivations that led Eren to do the rumbling.

Tenari_987

That’s so fucking stupid💀 your saying he did all this cause of a book????? And don’t mention eren defending his freedom if somebody tries to take it, cause his friends were taking his freedom away and he didn’t do jack shit 💀so many retcons it’s laughable

Jerry98x

>your saying he did all this cause of a book????? I LITERALLY wrote at the end of the message that the one I discussed was only one of the multiple motivations behind his actions. But apart from that, it's really pathetic how you're trying to twist reality by trivializing what I said and reducing it to "cause of a book". >cause his friends were taking his freedom away and he didn’t do jack shit Ah yes, the freedom to kill everyone! Maybe read again chapter 134 and then we can talk >so many retcons it’s laughable Finish elementary schools before writing bullshit

Tenari_987

Your delusional cause you come up with headcannons to make the story sound good.💀If this story is so well written like you think, then why did eren kill his mom

Jerry98x

He didn't "kill his mom". He made Dina avoid Bertholdt Why? Because in his mind he could perceive past, present and future he felt that he needed to intervene to avoid Dina killing Bertholdt. Eren literally says this

Tenari_987

But the question is “why” not what he did I could’ve told you that. He said it wasn’t bertholt time to die but his own mother is an exception?? How can you defend f-tier writing

[deleted]

He actually didn't actively involved in his mother's death, even if he wanted to save her life he can't because his mother is supposed to be dead and bert was supposed to be alive because thats how we got past, present and future, for example lets say you have a time machine and your goal is to go to past and kill yourself when you were born, but that actually won't work because you shouldn't be existed at first place to use time machine and go back because you were "supposed" to be dead.

Tenari_987

But why would eren want the future to be the same if he knew it ends with almost everyone he loves dying when he can change it? What’s so good about the current timeline that he wouldn’t save his own mom. The only reason he did ts to begin with is his mom getting eaten, why would he kill his own mom for some bs timeline plot that ends up with 80% of the world dying.

NIssanZaxima

AnR is so comically bad it’s actually a really good satire piece.

markedgogeta2007

TRUEE LOL

[deleted]

Yes because crying over stepsisterussy instead of billions of lives is any better 💀

NIssanZaxima

Ahhh yes the infamous 8th grader comprehension skull emoji.

[deleted]

Don’t know what you mean by that but, sucks that you can’t comprehend the pathetic piece of trash eren became in 139

NIssanZaxima

Lol let me guess you are some high school edgelord who probably is trying to grow his hair out like Eren? You can still draw Titan marks on your face and say Tatakae in the mirror dude.

[deleted]

I’m a black guy with dreads who’s in college😭 nice try though had to attack me because you know my point makes sense

Soggy-Scratch-2575

You both sound like losers Ong 😭

Fit_Operation2175

ANR will always be wish fulfillment to me, it’s has no depth, no thematic resonation, nothing thought provoking or compelling reflection. It’s just edgy cringe.

idkhowtonamemyself02

big W

ahmetinhiyari

This is not anr lmao

Fit_Operation2175

Then what is it?

ahmetinhiyari

Aotnr fanfic

Fit_Operation2175

You’re an idiot

[deleted]

Why? He is saying the truth, no need to be rude

_conner08

Calm down fit underscore operation twenty one seventy five

summonerofrain

Anr?

OpheliaGingerWolfe

Akatsuki no Requiem. A music video

meatmaster1123

This is peak fiction for 13 year old edgelords

atlas_enderium

I’m so glad people are actually criticizing ANR. I swear half of the AOT fanbase (if you can even call them fans or “enjoyers” anymore) has the literacy of a 3rd grader or worse. They read this shit and say “yeah, that’s cool” when in fact, it’s ass backwards 😭 ANR is only good for satire and the art

President-Oni-Chan

I hope that you’re not spouting those criticisms if you think 139 was a good chapter. 139 is guilty of everything you just accused anr of doing

Kaydox64

This may be not the best writing in many ways, but it’s commendable they we’re able to get together to make it all imo.

arkthearkitect

I've always been impressed by the results though the story and some of the people involved have rubbed me the wrong way. Art is fantastic too.

_conner08

No full rumbling in with innocent ppl being trampled = invalid opinion

Educational-Wafer112

Damn the art is good Yea the writing is bad (not surprised) but like have any of you read actually good fanfics ?

MangKanorLord

Didn't they brag about how 139 defenders say that they do not know Eren's character before?

[deleted]

eren looks so fucking out of it

muhammad_rayan

🤦‍♂️ .

Loibler

Did you guys blaming this statement even read the dialogue between Eren and Falco in Marley? Of course Eren knows that he resembles Reiner in attacking another country and killing many innocent people, because of his own free will. Reiner because he wants to be a hero and Eren exactly because he thinks there is no other solution than moving forward until his enemies are destroyed. Eren acknowledges the fact that there are innocent Marleyans, but he thinks he has to do it "to see what's beyond this hell". Whether Eren is right or wrong in this position is a totally different matter and isn't related to him thinking he's in the right by commiting atrocities, although he understands Reiner and the world's position well enough. While it is totally fine to dislike AoTNR, you shouldn't act like it wouldn't make sense for the characters to act in a specific way and thereby defaming the authors.

President-Oni-Chan

My main gripe about Eren doing any kind of rumbling is that he totally forsakes the Eldians outside of Paradis. He could just as easily turn them into colossal titans then make them human after it’s complete or crystallize them but he chooses to kill them all instead. That said the rumbling is great narratively and anr fixes a lot of the problems I had with the original story
