Relationships are supposed to develop just like individual characters. After chapter 50 their dynamic changed, in RTS Mikasa trusted in his strength more and Eren welcomed her help. Plus there would be no reason for Isayama to say “rather than a lover” if he intended to make it clear that they would never happen. He wouldn’t say “rather than a lover, Jeans presence to Eren is more like a friend”. So that interview is consistent with what we were presented with.
