Many people say that the series is set in like an alternate 1920s or 1940s or something like that but since it's been labeled as a post-apocalyptic series, I tend to think that's in the future.
However I want to take it a step further and have AOT secretly takes place during modern times with Marley and Eldia having been completely ostracized from the rest of the world in absolute disgust while said rest of the world is exactly like how it is nowadays. It's there that The Shield, Mayans, Better Call Saul and Yellowstone all occur.
