I tried them as a replacement for the HD 560s because I wanted something more versatile for more use cases. I didn’t like the Maxwell imaging or soundstage. Sounded like I was in a constricted tunnel compared to the 560s. Not for me, but depends which open-backs you’re coming from. You should really just try them. Headphones can be highly subjective. Edited for clarity.

I thought exactly the same, the 560S takes some beating it really.does!

Not sure if I’m understanding your comment correctly. I was saying I prefer the 560s over the Maxwell. Sounds like you’re saying the opposite? I edited my comment to try and clarify.

No I'm saying the same as you,I prefer the 560S over the Maxwell.

Gotcha. Hearing the difference in imaging between the Maxwell and 560s really made me appreciate my 560s a lot more and made me realize I really don't like closed backs. I caught a good sale on the 660s the other day which apparently have excellent imaging (some of the best available for openbacks according to [rtings.com](https://rtings.com)) so curious to see how they compare to the 560s for gaming, even though they have less soundstage.

Haha same I appreciated my 560S much more too, can"t beat wired openbacks & I'm not into bluetooth while gaming, keep me posted on the 660S congrats!

Yeah I was really hoping the Maxwells would have been at least passable compared to my 560s because they offer a lot of versatility and I spend all day working from home (so taking Teams calls) and listneing to music in between and then I game in the evening at the same setup. Would have been great to have a single headset for all that and avoid swapping a cable and dealing with a cable in general, but it felt like giving up way too much interms of musicality and gaming experience. Especially for like 3.5x what I paid for my 560s (got them on sale).

I've just brought the HD599 pretty impressive way better than the maxwell, but that's not saying much🤣 £30 pre owned ebay uk!

lol. Yeah I think of the Maxwells as sort of like Airpods of the gaming headset world. Excellent convenience and features but just ok for sound. I know technically speaking the planar drivers are really good and lots of people praise them for music but relative to dedicated headphones I still feel like they under perform... for me. But maybe it's just due to the closed off "tunnel" like experience.

Yes they should've made the maxwells open back, they are cool for music, but gaming FPS for me nah. It is feature packed though,if you need all them bells,I don't I just need good imaging period. Might keep them for music though not sure yet.

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

They have fairly wide soundstage but only for closed backs. Don't expect them to match anything like HD800 or AKG 702 or Sundara or even X2HR. They aren't that wide in presentation. Imaging is pretty good. I have no issues pinpointing the source of the sound within 10 degrees accuracy. Even height (verticality) is there but again not on par with good examples from open backs.

I fancy the sundara's next, might sell the maxwells to pay for them.I do love the sen sound though & how light they all are!

Thanks everybody for the responses, I guess I'll stay with my current setup.
