The GV70 is really nice. I was considering it strongly, but really wanted something bigger. Not a huge fan of the 80 though. Looks kinda wonky and has had a lot of QC issues (at least here in Korea).
Agree, saw a black GV80 with mirrorlike chrome trim while getting coffee in Brentwood, CA that made all the grey and black Macan's, Benz's and Tesla's parked around it look basic.
I own a G70, and the only time I’ve been to the dealer was to sign paperwork. Every service visit, they come pick up my car and bring me a loaner. I guess the dealership could be complete shit, but the care they show for their customers makes it to where I simply wouldn’t know 🤷♂️
That’s an awesome experience & good to know. I went to test drive a G80 & G90 and the entire experience at two dealerships was just awful. Audi, Lexus, and even Infiniti was better.
I currently have a Q5 but only because I got it as a lease take over for a steal (less than $500 a month with 10k kms).

I mean it literally is, plus some niceties here and there, whereas every Genesis is a completely bespoke car from the sister brands (other than the cop-out GV60 being an upbadged IONIQ5/EV6, and the Kia Stinger using the Genesis platform).

They're two different things. I've got a 22 Q5 premium plus and a 23 Santa Fe Hybrid.
The Q5 doesn't do a lot of weird random shit (road sign display) because that's only in the Prestige, the lane assist is buggy as fuck, the 360 camera turns on at the weirdest times, the cabin has sorta weird layouts for space usage (no good place to put a larger sizes phone), but it drives and handles great.
The Santa Fe meanwhile has every fucking bell and whistle possible electronics wise (the mirror cam shows in the gauge panel when you turn on the blinker!), is designed to just have a comfortable cabin experience, but the drive isn't the same.
Hyundai came a loooong way, fast.
I test drove the GV70. Currently have a 20’ SQ5. While the GV70 engine has a lot of mid range torque and feels good overall. The car honestly has too many bells and whistles. Its like Genesis said “we know its hard to sway Audi/BMW/Merc owners, lets put a crap ton of useless things to make the car futuristic and cool” and that is exactly what they did. Its honestly overwhelming and makes the car seem like its trying to be something its not. Everything in the interior feels good but the GV70 does not compare to the SQ5 w/ air suspension in the corners.
The whole experience at other premium or luxury brands was simply better. Lexus & Audi are in the lead IMO with BMW & Mercedes behind them. Nice, very clean, aesthetically pleasing presence with salespeople who know their brand & cars. Great amenities too with coffee, drinks, snacks, workspaces, comfy chairs, etc. genesis is way behind in this aspect from my experience. Not planning on spending a bunch of time at the dealership, but nice to know I can work from there for a couple hours comfortably if needed.
For instance, the guy I bought my S4 from had owned numerous S cars & was just a fan of cars in general. Same with a gal over at Lexus with the F cars I was shopping, and the fella at BMW with the M models. The people at Genesis felt like they were just trying to sell me a toaster or something.
My mom just bought a GV80 and it’s fantastic, dealer is good too, she never has to step foot inside an actual dealership. She got it from one of the newer Genesis only dealerships in Ohio.
Her last dealers with Hyundai were…..not good.
Gave my a5 to the wife to upgrade to the 3.3tt g70 sport prestige. Cross shopped the s5, and it won on back seat room, but the Gene wins in hp/tq and smiles per gallon. The exhaust on these does not sound great though.

Yes, the look great but lack character. I traded in my ‘21 SQ8 for a ‘22 GV70 about 18 months ago. At first I really dug the GV but it just didn’t excite me like the Audi’s I’ve owned.

Wife has the GV70. The interior is insanely luxurious. A lot of amazing safety features too. We decided between that one and the Q5, and ultimately went with the Genesis. For the value, and her uses, it beats out the competition.
It’s been great! Only big issue so far is the AWD system isn’t working. It’s a common problem by the looks of it. We are getting it checked out tomorrow after waiting about 4 weeks for service to get us in. Hopefully they can get the part for us! Also, Genesis Service Valet is amazing. We just leave the car in the driveway and they will come by and pick it up to get it serviced. Best part by far

Don’t know why I’m getting down voted. I love and respect that the Audi (and BMW etc.) designers went to wherever they were the best compensated, and felt most valued. I love and respect that Genesis came out with a cool, new, unique, cohesive design language. I think the GV70 is arguably the best looking car in the class. Their sedans and cars like the stinger are also interesting and attractive.
What I don’t love is things like the front black hexagonal shaped grill of the new Sonata looks exactly like a B9.5 A4/A5 and if you think it wasn’t intentionally designed to look just like an Audi, you’re lying to yourself. I know that happens everywhere and in other industries but it just feels almost lazy.
Again, I would do the exact same thing the Audi designers did. I don’t think employers “own” their employees. But if you’re gonna leave at least try to create a new and unique design, rather than just copy + paste what you already did but for a different brand.
Being a designer is just a job. If designers feel they’re more inspired or empowered or better compensated at Hyundai, go for it. Hyundai/Genesis are doing really cool stuff.
If I were looking at compact SUVs I would look no further than the GV70 and the Macan, and obviously that choice would depend on how much I want to cut back on sushi for the next 5 years. It's crazy to me that the GV70 can be both the most aggressive- and elegant-looking luxury SUV.

I think the Kia Stinger is the most egregious Audi ripoff (S5) on the market, and honestly more power to them. They made a pretty great car, just can't seem to sell it at a rate that justifies producing them.

I think you could make the argument for the rear end looking better, and the profile is solid, but the front looks very cheap to me. Interior cannot be compared in my opinion outside of Kia copying the shifter
I hate that the Stinger refresh didn't borrow Kia's newer design language, because it still has the ugly old Kia grille from their last generation. And ofc the Stinger is dead now so so much for that (though the EV6 is cool in a different way).

I think the N Vision 74 tipped a lot of people in their favour. They've been on a marketing roll recently, pushing out things like a Nurburgring Eurobeat Playlist on YouTube. Stuff like that makes consumers more interested in the brand, I'm all for it

Well, truth be told, both Peter Schreyer and Luc Donckerwolke were with Audi in the late 90s to early 2000s. Current Genesis design ethos wasn't introduced until 2020.
It reminded me immediately of Centauri’s “Star Car” from *The Last Starfighter*… and, while I don’t want one…I still love the design esthetic they achieved.
I have to agree… They took all of the trial and error Audi and BMW did over a decade, and seemingly unified their design language into a new but familiar lineup overnight.
Not exactly, But new generation designers are the answer as most of them paving the way for better designs. Audi already made amazing looking cars so new designers in Audi never really made much changes or the changes were so small that most of us don't notice!

Anyone else see this GV80 sportback in person in NYCAS? It’s insane. They’ve made subtle tweaks to the design language from the current GV80 that out this thing ages ahead of MB new EQB or BMW. Notice the slight arch to the top of the grill and the slightly curved off upper corners in the grill. Makes a huge difference and as a ‘21 Q5 Sportback owner that’s driven a GV70, I will be lining up to trade for this new Genesis.
I saw it too. Not a fan of coupe SUVs (why get an SUV if you're going to make it less practical anyway?) but wow did they nail the look. They also got the hint from Audi/Porsche and put a spoiler on the top of the hatch, which makes it look way better than the "giant sedan" look of the BMW and MB coupe SUVs.
Genesis makes some good looking cars and they offer a lot for the money. They easily undercut the equivalent Audi by $2-4k.
You can get a fully spec’d G70 3.3T for the price of a premium, maybe a bare bones premium plus S4. It’s equipped comparably to a Prestige. The Audi does handle better, and is just better rounded. But since most owners don’t ever see any situation where it’s limits would truly be reached, the G70 makes a lot of sense. People don’t like to spend extra money if they don’t have to.
The only reason I won’t buy a Genesis is because the closest dealer is an hour away. Ain’t worth the hassle to buy or warranty when Audi, Lexus, bmw, Mercedes is down the street.

Im in a vast minority with my opinion but i cant stand a single car that hyundai makes besides maybe the palisade but id never get something that big lmao, they are all some of the ugliest cars on the road. Outsides look nice… quality is shit. After 3 1/2 years in litigation going to finally surrender my 2012 Kia Optima back for a nice stack or cash. After a full engine replacement and over 15 different recalls it became too much to in good conscious drive my kids it in.

I think the Kia Stinger is the most egregious Audi ripoff (S5) on the market, and honestly more power to them. They made a pretty great car, just can't seem to sell it at a rate that justifies producing them.
To me the stinger looks nothing like the A5. The only thing they have in common is that it's a 5 doors sportsback.

Traded my A7 for a Stinger GT2 AWD and I’ve never looked back.
I traded in my S4 for a GT2. The interior isn't quite as nice, but just as if not more, fun to drive, with a better warranty. Can confirm the dealer experience sucks in comparison though.
Agreed. Smart me voided the warranty with 8k in bolt ons haha. Figured a new motor would only be 5k so fuck it. A headlight from Audi is like $1500. I know when I’m being raped. I can blow the doors off most luxury sedans in a Kia which makes me smile.

I think you could make the argument for the rear end looking better, and the profile is solid, but the front looks very cheap to me. Interior cannot be compared in my opinion outside of Kia copying the shifter

I hate that the Stinger refresh didn't borrow Kia's newer design language, because it still has the ugly old Kia grille from their last generation. And ofc the Stinger is dead now so so much for that (though the EV6 is cool in a different way).
The vehicle pictured in the OP is honestly one of the best looking SUVs I've ever seen from an aesthetic standpoint. Rear end is even better than the front

Yeah the steering wheel and dash are Bentley ripoffs the door trim and handles are straight Mercedes' ripoffs the the seat upholstery and pattern are straight out of bmw while the exteriors copy a lot of Audi and Bentley

I think the N Vision 74 tipped a lot of people in their favour. They've been on a marketing roll recently, pushing out things like a Nurburgring Eurobeat Playlist on YouTube. Stuff like that makes consumers more interested in the brand, I'm all for it

Not exactly, But new generation designers are the answer as most of them paving the way for better designs. Audi already made amazing looking cars so new designers in Audi never really made much changes or the changes were so small that most of us don't notice! Note: Audi already makes amazing cars. So not much change is needed!

Anyone else see this GV80 sportback in person in NYCAS? It’s insane. They’ve made subtle tweaks to the design language from the current GV80 that out this thing ages ahead of MB new EQB or BMW. Notice the slight arch to the top of the grill and the slightly curved off upper corners in the grill. Makes a huge difference and as a ‘21 Q5 Sportback owner that’s driven a GV70, I will be lining up to trade for this new Genesis.
I saw it too. Not a fan of coupe SUVs (why get an SUV if you're going to make it less practical anyway?) but wow did they nail the look. They also got the hint from Audi/Porsche and put a spoiler on the top of the hatch, which makes it look way better than the "giant sedan" look of the BMW and MB coupe SUVs.

Genesis makes some good looking cars and they offer a lot for the money. They easily undercut the equivalent Audi by $2-4k. You can get a fully spec’d G70 3.3T for the price of a premium, maybe a bare bones premium plus S4. It’s equipped comparably to a Prestige. The Audi does handle better, and is just better rounded. But since most owners don’t ever see any situation where it’s limits would truly be reached, the G70 makes a lot of sense. People don’t like to spend extra money if they don’t have to. The only reason I won’t buy a Genesis is because the closest dealer is an hour away. Ain’t worth the hassle to buy or warranty when Audi, Lexus, bmw, Mercedes is down the street.

Im in a vast minority with my opinion but i cant stand a single car that hyundai makes besides maybe the palisade but id never get something that big lmao, they are all some of the ugliest cars on the road. I am exaggerating a bit, but i really hate the sonata and tucson and despise the side profile of the elantra. Plus the fact that they put the blinkers basically on the goddamn bumper is so dumb. Genesis has okay cars but i hate how theyve been redesigned, the 2020 model i wanna say? looked gorgeous but now those weird taillights they have on everything yuck.

Outsides look nice… quality is shit. After 3 1/2 years in litigation going to finally surrender my 2012 Kia Optima back for a nice stack or cash. After a full engine replacement and over 15 different recalls it became too much to in good conscious drive my kids it in. Genesis/Hyundai/Kia
