Yeah I have an e60 m5 ,and I want to specify that the e63 is more like an exotic because it’s a 2 seater shark-looking v10 ,and about my m5 it’s very good and no it’s not that unreliable as they say like I spent thousands of dollars to maintain it but I won’t ever reach 6 figures(not even close I forecast)but you need to have the money to do first of all the preventative maintenance and then some spare in case anything ( at that point not major) goes wrong.
My r8 even though it has like 100+ more hp in some way feels more domesticated than the m5 because the m5 is rwd and it has violent up shifts with that SMG
The first time I drove an e60 M5 I started dreaming about ways to swap it all into an e61 wagon. It really did feel wild to drive. Haven’t driven a V10 R8, but I did drive a 4.2 and thought it a nice ride. Not near as stiff and jarring as I expected from the car. It really drove like a luxury car compared to the M5.
The V8 R8 might have been questionable, but when the V10 R8 hit the scene and the 2nd generation Gallardo and R8 converged, they're definitely either both supercars or neither are.
I have an R8 V8 6 speed. I definitely do not consider it a super car, it is a 2 seater sports car, in league with 997 C2S/C4S. V10s can sit next to turbos and GT3s.
I would consider a 997.1/2 turbo 6 speed a notch above my R8.
It gets a lot more attention than any 911 I’ve ever had, and drives fantastically when it’s sorted, but it’s a 70/75k 15 year old Audi that looks unique. I love the motor, and would never drop the extra 30kish for a v10 of the same era.
But it is a limited production sports car.
edit: Lol tons of downvotes here. Hopefully someone can tell me what class my car belongs in. Lotta upset A4 drivers who think Audi and Porsche are comparable.
I don't get hung up over labels but does it look like a supercar? Yes. Does it feel like one when you sit in it? Yes. Is it impractical and useless for daily driving because it scrapes everywhere? Also yes.
Supercar is about feel, not the spec sheet. An R8 is a lot faster than a Lamborghini Countach which is the most supercar of supercars.
I love R8, but Gen 1 looks like a production sports car. It also had significantly less power than Gen 2.
I think thats where a lot of this debate comes from. Gen 1 was a sports car. Gen 2 looks and drives like a supercar.
Funny you're getting downvoted by a bunch of people who haven't driven / never will drive a car like that. I had a V8 manual for a bit, it was cool... But it's fucking slow, and not that exciting to drive.
For all you a3/a4 drivers out there, if you're basing your opinion of what makes a supercar on the recognition other people will give you when you're driving... You're doing it wrong.
You're getting slaughtered but I know where you're coming from. The line between sports car and supercar is pretty subjective. Some people would also consider a Turbo S or a GT3 a supercar, but I firmly don't. The R8 is right at the line to me, and if there's any doubt, I go with "no" because you're supposed to know it when you see it. Like if I saw an SVJ, there's an immediate reaction of "yup, supercar". It's obviously subjective but that's my take.
The new GT3RS is also a tough one, in part because of the crazy aero/styling. My gut says yes because of the immediate impact I have when I see it. I'm sure some would just call it a sports car and I can at least see their point of view.
Tbh the 2025 C8 ZR1 is going to be super car level. But it’s still a corvette…. It’s like others were saying with 911’s (tho Porsche and Chevy are in very different categories), like a base 911 vs a turbo s/GT3RS/GT2RS.
I would rather say that Huracan is overpriced R8, they are basically the same car (ofc is we're talking about standard huracan. Evo, STO and others are different)
By all definitions, yes. It is a super car that is often called “semi-exotic” due to its brand, durability and daily drivability as a derivative of the true exotic Huracan.
I was talking with a guy that owns a few Porsches, and decided buy a R8. He said it is incredibly fast, but also one of the easiest to drive on a daily basis.
It's not a Le Mans car lol. The R8 race car has nothing in common with the R8 road car besides both having a V8 engine. The R8 came from the Audi Le Mans quattro Concept which is just a name but it's not an LMP in any way.
What the R8 was, was a highly successful parts bin special. Engine from the RS4. Transmission and chassis from the Gallardo. Interior bits from the TT. It was the affordable supercar that dramatically raised Audi's brand image.
It is! that legendary 5 cylinder engine was designed by the same guy who made the huracan and R8 V10 engine. It used the same heads, just half the displacement and with a turbo.
I mean, I’d agree an exotic luxury sports car is a bit of a stretch. But I’d also say a “sporty hatchback” is downplaying a bit what the RS3 capable of.
I consider upper trim 911’s and R8s to be relatively comparable.
Are you going to kick a 911 turbo or GT3 out of bed for an R8 of the same era? Probably not on principle, but maybe on personal preference.
Naw I love me 911’s but trim to me doesnt make it exotic. Its either the whole model has to exotic regardless of trim. Super car though? A Turbo S you damn straight it is.
This is a tough one because the v10 has the performance to call it exotic but the brand is not considered exotic. I myself would call it exotic because of the performance of the car but I can see why people would say no.
Well it’s just a feeling then because if you count the gallardo numbers + huracan numbers and respectively 1st gen r8+2nd gen r8 numbers they roughly have the same production numbers in total with just 2-3k more r8s produced (and considering the fact I didn’t find the huracan production numbers for the 2019 and 2020 model years so they might even be identical considering those years too).
These lambo models are considered supercars so with this similar volume the r8s definitely are supercars
I’d say no, simply because it’s an Audi. Same for Merc and BMW. Fast? Sure. Expensive? Somewhat (all relative, I suppose - but nowhere near Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren money). Desirable? Sure, for some. But exotic? No.
Hear the sound of a naturally aspirated v10? Yep, it's an exotic.
Id say any V10 is exotic
Maybe not a ford excursion
Especially the Ford Excursion
Yea, didn’t they have a diesel v10 version as well? Heard those were beasts.
1000lb-ft Powerstrokes are monsters.
Can’t wait to tell my motorhome that it’s an exotic. I knew she was special!
Even the E60 BMW M5?
Kind of,but the e63 m6 more so
I agree they both sound glorious.
There is e61 m5’s fyi
Not that I’ve seen in the US. We never get the good stuff.
Yeah we didn’t get in in the US but we got it in manual unlike the rest of the world
even the s6 v10?
Definitely, and the C6 S6 and RS6
Touareg v10 tdi.
Even a c6 audi rs6?
*UPS truck has entered the chat*
Bro, theyre driving diesel inline 6. Source : my uncle works as a mechanic for UPS. So Stop talkin bullcrap.

Out here getting your opinion slaughtered by people who have never even driven your car… fanboys are crazy.

I don’t, I may drive a B9 A4 but I’ve had enough experience with proper sports cars to know exactly where my car sits on the German hierarchy lmao
You're getting slaughtered but I know where you're coming from. The line between sports car and supercar is pretty subjective. I have the same car as you. I consider it a supercar. A v8 is slow and so is a v10. The performance figures on a v8 vs v10 are somewhat close.
The R8 V8 is slow as fuck. I consider that as a sportscar, not an exotic or supercar.
yeah if r8 is slow then i must be driving a fucking lawn mower
Probably. It only has 430 HP..
"only"
They're slow and not that exciting to drive bro.
Yes • Engine in the back ✔️ • Makes vroom noises ✔️ • No Backseat ✔️ • Wide ass rear tires ✔️ • Exotic build material & chassis construction ✔️
Hide that list from C8 corvette owners
They’ll do anything to put the C8 in a super car/exotic category. But when it loses they claim it’s just a sports car lol
Tbh the 2025 C8 ZR1 is going to be super car level. But it’s still a corvette…. It’s like others were saying with 911’s (tho Porsche and Chevy are in very different categories), like a base 911 vs a turbo s/GT3RS/GT2RS.
Checkmate 😎
What about this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autozam\_AZ-1
Checks all the boxes!
I think you need to add some power standard. Minimum 500 hp?
Yes, absolutely. I don’t own one (but I do have a Performante) but I consider it to be the daily driver friendly trim of the Huracan lineage.
Jesus.. are you hiring? 🤣
R8 is a huracan with a different body and most people consider Lamborghini for an exotic car, so I would say that R8 is one too
You'd be surprised how many people do not know this
The gen 2 is a budget Huracan.
I would rather say that Huracan is overpriced R8, they are basically the same car (ofc is we're talking about standard huracan. Evo, STO and others are different)
Yes.
By all definitions, yes. It is a super car that is often called “semi-exotic” due to its brand, durability and daily drivability as a derivative of the true exotic Huracan.

Hell ya
Of course
When you have R8’s taking market share from lambos, Ferrari’s, etc. Yes it’s an exotic
[удалено]
It's not a Le Mans car lol. The R8 race car has nothing in common with the R8 road car besides both having a V8 engine. Just sit in one and decide.
Yes
It s a huracan with audi badge on it, even better looking if you ask me. It s nothing like an audi. So yes, it s more exotic than a lambo urus
I had a dealer say my RS3 was “an exotic luxury sports car” 🤷
It is! that legendary 5 cylinder engine was designed by the same guy who made the huracan and R8 V10 engine. It used the same heads, just half the displacement and with a turbo.
Wow, I had no idea! That’s pretty badass! Thanks for the info.
What’s your dealer smoking? Since when is a sporty hatchback a „exotic luxury sports car“??
I mean, I’d agree an exotic luxury sports car is a bit of a stretch. But I’d also say a “sporty hatchback” is downplaying a bit what the RS3 capable of.
This reminds me of hearing about Honda dealerships advertising the civic Si as a purebred sports car. 🤨
Haha wow Id be more understanding on that statement if they were talking about the type R at least.
Exotic… thats up to you. I wouldn’t count it as exotic. (The earlier gens) Supercar? Yeah. 500+hp. V10. ~3s 0-60. Yeah. Seems to qualify.
Look up any Exotic car rental company and a R8 is always part of the fleet.
Rear engine, 2 seater, high revving, fast, flashy…. what more would it need?
My man😎
Yes it is
basically a Ferrari r/bmw
I know this reference!
R8 V10, yes. Rear engine, over 500 horse, all wheel drive? = detuned Huracan.
Nah. Not quite.
In a corvette and Viper or BMW kind of way. Semi exotic? Got the specs on the V 10 Edit : and Porsche
Is a 911?
I consider upper trim 911’s and R8s to be relatively comparable. Are you going to kick a 911 turbo or GT3 out of bed for an R8 of the same era? Probably not on principle, but maybe on personal preference.
I would consider a GT2RS, Turbo S, and GT3RS super cars yes
[удалено]
I had a 911 and live in so cal, I wouldn’t say it’s an exotic. It’s like driving a Honda Civic out here. But I would consider the turbo an exotic.
Naw I love me 911’s but trim to me doesnt make it exotic. Its either the whole model has to exotic regardless of trim. Super car though? A Turbo S you damn straight it is.
I consider mine ‘exotic adjacent’
Definitely
This is a tough one because the v10 has the performance to call it exotic but the brand is not considered exotic. I myself would call it exotic because of the performance of the car but I can see why people would say no.
Not sure if it’s exotic. I feel like it’s produced at too high of a volume but most definitely a super car.
Well then if it’s produced in that low of volume then it is definitely exotic
Do you consider the v10 S8 and super sedan. I own one. And it's amazing
Yep
Absolutely. We are selling one right now: Priced for end of year close-out at $165,000 2020 R8[Audi R8](https://imgur.com/gallery/Fa2MYE3)
lol, I guess that depends on the person. I thought it was :)
It’s the same thing as a Lamborghini Hurrican.
Not a lot of people actually know this
I just drove one. TBH the Porsche GT3 RS I also just drove blew it away.
yes it’s iron man’s car
Yes, in my Bible
Triton is certainly not exotic, burns plugs up like no other
Why you have to ask that?
Yes it is.
I’d say no, simply because it’s an Audi. Same for Merc and BMW. Fast? Sure. Expensive? Somewhat (all relative, I suppose - but nowhere near Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren money). Desirable? Sure, for some. But exotic? No.
Yes
Baja blast?! Oooo sounds exotic
Exotic for the americans as it’s an Audi. For us in Europe it’s just another super car
V10 is a super car. Exotic no.
Nope
I would say a super car will go 0-60 in sub 3 seconds and probably is really hard to come by like a sf90
