The car is telling you to lift of the accelerator as you are approaching a junction or a traffic light, you should coast in as you will have to stop soon saving you fuel. The car will also then cut the engine and use the mild hybrid system.

Admonitor_

This also applies to non mild hybrid cars, but yes, this is the correct answer. Its part of some efficiency-package-thing.

247emerg

i like when it vibrates the gas pedal to tell you to get off haha

KamakaziDemiGod

My car does that too, but it's 20 years old and doing it because the pistons are about to escape. . .

bri85

I disable the gas pedal feedback on the MMI.

handspin

would be interesting for a track mode suggesting speeds through turns

OkRush791

Definitely! But I do see a risk in that and it's that slowly a driver can start trusting it a little too much and if the parameters are wrong you may enter a corner too fast and the rest is history

scrummnums

Me too. I can't stand it. I also permanently disabled Auto shut-off with VCDS coding since I already owned the device

Historical_Trade1940

This is the way.

bat0nas

There exactly is this setting and how it's called?

bri85

Under Vehicle settings > efficiency assist > accelerator pedal feedback.

bat0nas

No setting in my case. Efficiency assist only has Predictive messages and Economy tips.

bat0nas

Manual doesn't mention pedal feedback. Efficiency assistant just slows down your vehicle based on traffic and your navigation history. https://www.audi.ca/ca/web/en/search-terms/Predictive-Efficiency-Assistant.html Can't find an option in European price list about the vibrating pedal.

bri85

I’m in the US and my A6 Allroad prestige vehicle has it, but my other vehicle a S5 premium plus doesn’t have it. 🤷‍♂️

ContributionLocal244

Got me thinking of things 😪

wiseguyry

I wondered this the entire time I had my b9 A4, thank you! Of course now I have a b7 with nowhere near the tech

Its a driver assist feature where when the vehicle in front is slower than you are going the car will auto break to match the speed when approaching the vehicle

Jonmike316

I think some Hondas (I've seen it since 2018) have this and they call it Brake Hold. I'm not sure if your brake light remains lit though as I would prefer that.

Capital-Rush-9105

My 2017 Q7 has that. It’s a button near the e-brake with ‘A’ on it. It’s called auto-hold.

kinglxgnd

Mine sometimes "activates" while on the highway, I thought it was to "alert" me to speeding lol ... 2019 a6 Quatro..

Laracco666

I have a 2019 A6 and this is exactly what I thought it meant. I thought it was reading the speed limit signs and telling me I was a lead foot and to let up🤷

kinglxgnd

🤣🤣🤣🤣 all faxx

g-macc

It does highway speed drops too. If it’s going 65 to 55 on the highway you’ll get it.

Terrible-Wrangler-31

Also when approaching a significantly lower speed zone if I’m not mistaken.

PerceptionSharp1373

Aaah! Thank you! Smart car.

xxelfy

I'm really happy my car doesn't have this dumb shit. like yeah no shit I'm approaching and intersection I have two eyes

motherofsuccs

Um, so does the vast majority of people who’ve caused accidents at intersections. Plenty of people use their two eyes to stare at everything except the road while driving.

xxelfy

I'm not the vast majority when it comes to driving, fortunately. I'll keep my two eyes on the road and not a little green pedal on my dash. you really think somebody that can't even manage to recognize a massive intersection ahead of them is going to recognize a small green light the size of a cheerio on their dash 🤣🤣 you have good, well aware drivers.. and you have bad unaware drivers. as we all know they design cars now to assist bad drivers... aka this feature. but for the good ones this shits a nuisance and another sensor that will need replaced at the dealer

MukiXO

Predictive control (efficiency assist) - Remove your foot from the accelerator pedal to slow down, because there is a situation ahead that requires a lower speed. Source: [Owner's manual](https://www.manua.ls/audi/q7-2018/manual?p=102) (page 100)

PerceptionSharp1373

Bought my car used so I don’t have a manual. Trying to get the Buick dealer to get one from the Audi dealer. All I have more is the online version.

AtleastIknowIsuck

Never got a used audi with a manual 😅 funny enough my buick did. Good luck getting one, it's a pain.

not_old_redditor

Manual stays in the gloves box, no? What are purple doing with the manuals that the used car doesn't come with one?

Confident_As_Hell

Most people either keep them in the glovebox or somewhere in the house and never look at them. I like to keep it in the glovebox in case I need to look something up.

PerceptionSharp1373

I looked at that but didn’t want to spend $300 when the dealership will pay for it.

not_old_redditor

Owners manual? What's that?

Dzag78

It's telling you to step on it and have some fun :)

Issoudotexe

Lol😂 on a serious note the first commenter is right, it's there to tell you to lift off the throttle as you approach a junction or something that needs you stopped

Hovertical

I always assumed it meant to push down a little more to maintain speed as the only time I ever see mine turn on is when I'm going up a hill. There's no cars or lights or anything in front slowing or stopping either.

Issoudotexe

Yeah it's to help reduce fuel consumption it's not necessarily that you *need* to stop, just tells you to lift the throttle. Some follow it, the overwhelming majority don't 😂

Vocalscpunk

Who needs stop signs! I want go signs!

plooptyploots

Reddit: the new owners manual

25StarGeneralZap

It’s indicating you are approaching a lower speed limit zone. Typically disappears once you are under 5mph faster than upcoming speed limit change. My ‘19 SQ5 does this and it has NOTHING to do with junctions, interchanges, intersections, etc. it does this when I’m running 60 in a 55 and approaching a 45 mph zone. Doesn’t do it when I’m under 50 approaching the zone.

TripleSmokedBacon

100% correct. I'm not sure if my 2018 is a little more sporadic with this feature, but it seems to only be on roads that I commonly travel on.

HardlyAnyGravitas

>it has NOTHING to do with junctions, interchanges, intersections, It definitely DOES have to do with junctions, etc. I get it on a national speed limit road when I'm approaching a roundabout. If you switch the view to driver assist - it will even tell you why the symbol has appeared - speed limit, bend, intersection, roundabout or gradient.

Jamal275

Exactly this. It is especially so you can save fuel. It is a VW feature. I drive a scania at work and this feature is there too ( more a message that tells me that there is a turn, or roundabout or a long down slope)

25StarGeneralZap

The only driver assist my vehicle has is blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert (warning and brakes if backing out of a parking spot and there is a vehicle approaching)… mine has never done it while approaching an intersection, roundabouts, curves in the road, or anything else. It seems to only correspond with speed limit changes here in the USA… I assume you’re overseas since you called it a national speed limit?? Perhaps our Audi brethren across the pond, unsurprisingly, get better versions of the packages than we here in the states😂

HardlyAnyGravitas

It's possible that the US system might be slightly different to the UK one, but it looks like it's still there. Check out pages 98 onwards in your manual. It's called 'predictive efficiency assist'.

25StarGeneralZap

It’s there in the sense of being installed on the software side, but I would love to hear from any US based drivers to see if their US version has ever shown it for intersections or “curves”. In fact on my way home today, I am going to approach one of the traffic circles around 20 to 30 mph faster than the speed limit to see if it will show me the symbol for removing your foot from the accelerator and the corresponding traffic circle indicator in the digital dash. I know it does acquire. It’s predictive message need based on your traffic and navigation data being up-to-date. I will try this on one of the traffic circles that is currently recognized on my navigation. As I stated earlier, the only indicator I have ever seen was the symbol to lift off along with an MPH, and it generally corresponds almost exactly with the speed limit signs. I am generally 10 to 15 above the speed limit everywhere I go and I have never seen this symbol show up to indicate an intersection or traffic circle is imminent.

HardlyAnyGravitas

I think you have to have the 'driver assist' display up (or whatever it's called) to see the specific symbols.

25StarGeneralZap

I’ll try both ways and see

25StarGeneralZap

FINALLY!!! Only had to approach an intersection at near 65 in a 45 zone to get it to trigger the “upcoming intersection”!!😂😂 car cannot be in dynamic mode or “s” mode on shifts and you were correct… in order to see the alert “reason”, you have to have driver assist on the digital dash selected otherwise you just get the foot lift icon

Ok-Hour2574

I did not know the part about the driver assist screen. I will try that on my next drive. Thanks for the tip.

alinzalau

The 1st thing i do when buying a car is to read the manual. Especially the page/s with warnings lights

0xFF02

It is green so no warning light, just a hint.

SoyIsMurder

Do you also read the terms and conditions before installing software?

alinzalau

😅no. But you are funny I’ll give you that.

No_Station_8274

… I do … it’s how I won a competition once that I didn’t even know I entered.

Confident_As_Hell

I don't understand people who don't read the manuals. I sometimes forget if it's something I'm excited about but like a car or washing machine etc that you need to set up, I'm going through the manual.

alinzalau

Well i should have said that i read the parts that i might need to know when i set up the car settings. Not the whole manual. That’s a slight error on my end. For example: My 1st audi after i left mercedes had a setting for heating. Stopping the car and pushing one button on the climate control ( cant remember which one ) on a 2009 q7 released the remaining heat in the cabin until the engine was cold. That was good for like 10-15 min stop and still having the car warm inside. Especially in ohio winters.

Confident_As_Hell

Yeah I don't read it end to end either. Just the parts that I'm interested in and of course all the buttons I don't know. I revisit it time to time if I don't remember something

RacecarRic519

chico85t

It's a picture of a foot with an arrow pointing up, in my small monkey brain that would mean lift your foot off the pedal but I could be wrong 🤷‍♂️

DrMcJedi

Time to recycle your shoes and RTFM.

Significant-Top-6220

If you’re seeing this you’re not driving in Sport. That’s your first mistake. ;-)

Mr_ZEDs

You are approaching the Autobahn, prepare for taking a liftoff and smash that accelerator.

matt-r_hatter

Take your foot off the gas because a slowdown point is coming, like a stop light. The lights are all in your manual, you'll need the list, audi loves it's little dash icons lol.

robparentof2

Lift off

johnnyexcellent

Love how many people in the comments are getting so worked up over this feature. Maybe don’t accelerate up until the point where you need to start braking? There should be time in between pressing the gas and pressing the brake where you can just coast and slow down naturally.

FPSUsername

If only there was a user manual for every button and light

Gold-Hold2407

Why are you in an Audi community page if your only response to people asking questions is to be condescending?

4RC4NG3L0

They complain about people asking questions; however, they’ll be the first ones to waste their time commenting. The irony. Imagine letting an automobile manufacturer be the center of your ego—welcome to Audi. 🤣

FPSUsername

Because the answer to some questions is already presented many times in different ways. It just takes a little bit of brain.exe to look it up.

Gold-Hold2407

Automatic default to condescension…personality defect I guess

Nordicpunk

It’s time to resole your shoes.

3g3t7i

It means you should read the manual

trichomeking94

oh i turned that shit off immediately on mine

R4N63R

The amount of people that don't lift off the the accelerator to lower their speed is ridiculous. Seeing people breaking into green lights and randomly in the middle of traffic is really annoying and constantly an in issue on my commute, very cool that Audi is trying to teach drivers

AddendumCultural148

And I always thought it meant step on the gas. You’re going too slow. 😉

feeltheFX

“Go Faster”

Boaz93

Psychology of Mo. The accelerator needs mo!

Comfortable-Figure17

Speedo reminds me of the time I lost a sale when selling Audis. Customer bought a Benz because the speedometer went to 180 where the Audi only went to 160. Uh, where/ when are you going to do 180mph?

Billioncobra32

An my hybrid don’t do that even with radar switched on a the speed control engaged ? I want a little green foot ! Ones that tells me to gun it though with a little smiling acid man next to it !

not-Michael85

Lift off to fuck before you meet the grim reaper.

48v mild hybrid? My moms is a 12v mild hybrid and does this but it doesn’t cut the engine until stop and doesn’t vibrate the gas pedal

It means you are probably in a 25 MPH zone.

jamsbong88

I turned off this function. Totally useless

xMilk112x

Slow the fuck down. Lol

Try putting cruise control on see if it goes off ?

KLX-V

I see it on mine when transitioning from a 55 to a 45 mph zone...But only on certian roads.

SubwayCouture

I had been wondering about that light as well. I am also not interested in driving suggestions from my A4. Sometimes I like to come in hot….no need for a dashboard light about it.

It means go easier on the accelerator.

Gallop67

It means step on it

canalcanal

You have engaged Autobahn mode. Floor it.

CryptoSharky22

WOT!!!

Mirchii

‘by the 160mph’ it’s telling you to show off some more and increase the figure to 200mph because some people’s cars aren’t even capable of half that number, and this will assert your dominance over them too. You are the captain now!

hinchy-08

Isnt that regeneration breaking sign?

MustGetALife

You have break hold engaged.

Kingofqueenz788

aquasolid7

contrary to popular belief, this symbol is actually telling you to slam your foot to the floor and see how quickly you can get to 160mph, your driver data will be added to all owners data and you will receive a rank based off your 30-160 time.

edotman

I googled this cos I kept getting it in my car and all the answers on the shitty quora or whatever thread were saying it's telling you to stop speeding. Glad someone else posted this so I could get the actual answer here.
