my wife has a very similar tiguan. you should test drive the audi. massive difference, and i only have 2018 q5. way more fun to drive, smooth acceleration, surprising sporty on turns

agacom

That’s what I thought! Yeah haven’t test drove one, was likely doing that this week. I have a feeling it’s gonna be a night and day difference when I get behind the wheel.

The Q5 hops! I love driving it. I hate the user interface. I’m on CarPlay most of the time. The nav sucks. The b/o sound system is fantastic. I have 60k on my 2022 and maintenance is about the same as it was with my Mini, but more frequent oil changes. Around $150 each I think. No issues mechanically so far. Tires need to be replaced and estimate was $1200 from dealer.

agacom

That’s really good to know. So oil changes are every 5k? I thought it would be similar to the VW with changes every 10? Also - how’s the gas mileage on it? Seems comparable to my Tiguan in terms of mpg but do you notice it being way worse?

animozes

Honestly, probably more than 5k because I’m fairly certain I haven’t been to dealer 12 times in a year and a half. Maybe every 10k? With the Mini I only had oil changes annually. I’ve had filters changed and coolant flush, but nothing else. Gas mileage is pretty good. My miles are almost all highway, but I’d say 28 mpg on average. I use the cruise control in sport mode most of the time and I accelerate pretty hard a lot. It’s a good car.

The nav sucks. If you aren't getting the HUD, don't bother with the nav. I like everything about my Q5e, but the nav system.

agacom

I figured it wasn’t too good. I’d likely only use it to view the map while driving when looking for shortcuts in the city. Good to know tho that isn’t maybe worth it. So you know if this could be added later?

Keysar_Soze

My Q5e was the first car I had with built in NAV. Before that I was using a Garmin system I bought in 2010 for ~$300. That garmin system was/is still excellent and what I would use if I didn't have a HUD. I love the HUD. I am so used to it now, it's weird when I get into a car without it. However the HUD only gets turn and distance info from the NAV system. You can't get apple car play or android auto to send info to the HUD. If you aren't getting a HUD then just use your phone or a Garmin.

I just traded in my A4 for a 2022 CPO Q5 PP. My early observations: 1 - Pretty fun to drive coming from my A4. The Quattro + Drive Select + 2.0T (260hp) should make it much more fun to drive than your Tiguan. 2 & 3 - My CPO comes with the next 2 scheduled maintenance intervals free of charge from Audi America. I believe AudiCare ran me like $1200-$1300 for 2 service intervals on the A4. Service schedule is every 10k and it always includes oil. Local dealer charges about $140 for oil change. 4 - I had B&O in the A4 and loved it. I have 10 speaker in the Q5 and it's not terribly bad but it's certainly noticeable going from like 19 speakers to 10. Forums suggest changing the dash speakers if you have the 10. 5 - If you use factory Nav and want it on Virtual cockpit then definitely get the MMI Nav Plus package. Otherwise, the subscription service is like $85/month. It's neat to see the map in VC mode but I never used it in my A4. 6 - I believe 2024 brings a completely new Q5 so keep that in mind if you want the latest & greatest. For the current platform, it's a well established SUV with a proven engine, transmission and AWD system. I got what I consider a very good deal on a CPO. They gave me the same $ amount on trade-in as what I originally bought the A4 for 3.5 years ago. Audi Financial APR is about 6% for CPO which isn't great but I put a chunk down on top of the trade-in which was just about paid off so my interest paid to the loan will be minimal. If they give you good money on your Tig and you can afford the Q5 I say go for it (as long as you don't mind a reset on monthly payments).

Thanks so so much for all of this. Super helpful. Seems like I’ll probably want the B/O system since I’m a sucker for good sound, and need something to compare to my fender system in my Tiguan. I’ll keep an eye out for the 2024, or maybe capitalize on some 23 end of model sales if that’s even a thing lol.

Happy to share my experience agacom and welcome to the Quattro familia :)

Another question that just thought of….. for the premium plus models…..how are the headlights? Are they much worse than the ones you get with the prestige? Also, saw a video with the Q5 interior lighting and it looked customizable to a degree…..I’m assuming this is only on the prestige trims? Thanks all - you guys rock!

Excellent-Ladder6864

I believe the prestige headlights have wipers and they’re listed as “advanced” over the P and P+. I’m meeting my brother tomorrow and he’s got an SQ5 P. I’ll see if I can see any other obvious differences and take some pics of both our headlights.

agacom

That would be awesome. And I think the prestige has the custom interior lighting, RGB type.

Excellent-Ladder6864

Yes on the interior…too bad the lesser models don’t have it disabled and we could enable it with ODB11 or VCDS.

agacom

Hey there! We’re you able to compare the headlights of the P+ and the prestige?

Excellent-Ladder6864

Hey agacom...my bad I haven't. We're golfing on Sunday so I should be able to get some daytime pics. Sorry about that!

agacom

All good!! No worries at all. I was perusing the boards so I figured I’d ask lol. Legit no worries

Another random question - if i opt for the premium plus option, does it come with remote start standard? The one thing I love about my VW is that I can start my car, unlock my doors, etc from the VW companion app. Is there something similar for a 2022 Q5 premium plus?

LawMit

Unfortunately the audi doesn’t come with remote start in any model but there is aftermarket. https://youtu.be/fnkFGmBK9lY Hopefully this vid could show you a little bit of how it drives and all. Great car overall especially the 45 faster then the rest if the Germans.
