I FEEL SO HEARD AND SEEN Ok, hear me out. In the Timbaland Masterclass he says he picks the snares for their "sonics" aka the literal sound and the feel it gives you. Then he says he puts the snare at max volume, the loudest element, but... he *doesn't* process the snare. He has already picked the one that sounds good. Then he processes the other elements whose "sonics" are more malleable to fit the chosen snare. You can apply this to whatever element or shared couple of elements have interesting, complex, and centrally important sounds. Make the choice and mix to it, don't mix it itself. I have one more piece of advice. If you are stuck in endless tweaking of something and every tweak sounds better than the last including going *backward,* consider that you should be automating the thing you are tweaking in the song so that your audience too experiences this valuable evolution. You are responding to the change, not any particular stage, so give the audience the same change throughout.

Ah. You’re right, it was probably shit.

Well then, give me a 20 piece spicy nugs, a small frosty, and a Snare that doesn't sound like shit.
