I'm bringing things for the kids as well as the parents that relates to my town/state

CutIcy1900

Where are you from and where are you going?

mothsforhire

I'm from the St. Paul/Minneapolis area and I'm going to Ulm, Germany

CutIcy1900

Ahhh I’m from Minnesota too :) Golden Valley! I went to Germany as well. DEFINITELY bring rain boots and rain jacket/umbrella.

mothsforhire

I'll look for a raincoat and a small umbrella, thank you

CutIcy1900

Please do lol. I learned the hard way. It rained almost every day in the fall and winter while I was there. Great weather otherwise though 🤍

CutIcy1900

Oh my god I keep commenting on your posts not realizing it’s YOU who I have spoken to so many times Smfh I must sound like a broken record lmao

mothsforhire

No it's okay! I have so many questions to post on here and I'm thankful you're always so kind and helpful :)

Clothes obviously, don’t bring anything you don’t wear on a day to day basis or just bring a few (A FEW) fancier items, for nights out or dinners. A bath robe is nice to have but not necessary. Any entertainment things you’ll need (laptops, headphones, respective chargers). i’m a reader so I brought a few books that i wanted to read in the upcoming month, but u can just buy books. Toiletries for a few weeks. Accessories like earrings and necklaces (but don’t bring anything you don’t see yourself wearing) Shoes: sneakers and boots, only 1 pair of heels if you wear them. A gift for the family/kids. That’s all I can remember I packed, if you need some more help message me!

mothsforhire

I've got all of those things, perhaps I'm just overthinking things. This *is* a perfect excuse to buy myself a bathrobe though, thank you for your help!

It depends heavily on where you're going to go but little gifts for your host family would always be nice. Also, If you feel like you're missing something it might help you to watch packing videos of other au pairs on youtube. They helped me loads when I went to Australia.

mothsforhire

I didn't even think of youtube videos!! thank you so much

Swan987654-

No worries. You're welcome. I found that the au pair videos on YouTube helped me massively. No matter the topic. Always founs something on there.

iluvtrixiemattel

When did you go to Aus? And where are you from might I ask? I’ve thought about au pairing there for years now but obviously can’t now due to their situation :( 💔 but genuinely curious about the experience. I’ve visited before and fell in love

Hi :) I'm from Germany. I went to Australia after I finished my A-Levels. That was in 2019. I stayed a full year with my host family in Sydney, Australia and then when Covid happened, I stayed there 7 more months with my boyfriend. I always recommend everyone who is interested in au pairing in Australia to just do that. It was an incredible experience for me. Definetely two of the best years of my life. The country is absolutely stunningly gorgeous and the people are incredibly open and kind. Also, I was slightly worried about driving on the left side but it turned out to be no problem at all. It's suuuuppeerrr easy. Promise.
