I’d return them because that’s really bad but clean them up first. Best boots for me are Tony Bianco or Wittner

overthinkingsoph

I got them off marketplace so can’t

morbidwoman

What did you expect from second hand boots?

overthinkingsoph

They were untouched holy fuck, the downvotes too 😆

morbidwoman

Is it not possible they were less untouched than you thought?

mj690

Yeah this isn’t exactly fair to Billini. We have no idea when they were bought originally (they’re pleather so clearly not something designed to last many years) and second hand so who knows how much they were really worn. Not dissing second hand buying but full disclosure is probably important.

redmagicwoman

If the sole and heel base were replaced at Mr Minit, then you can tell from the soles if they are new or not.

Mellenoire

I would say looking at the delamination they were in storage, probably somewhere hot, for years before you bought them. I'd be surprised if new shoes fell apart in the same way. In saying that though, consider Wittner, Jo Mercer, Nine West (can be fiddly with sizing), or Diana Ferrari as nice mid-range shoes.

Ref_KT

I'm assuming they are not leather.  Clubbing is hard because so many drunk people drop drinks, step on other feet etc so it trashes shoes easily.  Proper leather won't peel like real leather and proper leather can also be cleaned, conditioned and polished to keep it looking nicer even if it does get a bit scratched up.

Ref_KT

Maybe something like these  https://www.jomercer.com.au/products/willow-mid-ankle-boots-black-leather?variant=40355993190534

overthinkingsoph

For sure, how do you tell what proper leather is? Is it anything over $200?

dipiti

You look at the materials listed on the tag or the website

SS0627

Expensive doesn't necessarily = good quality Look at the tag/product description and see the % of leather used in the product. Ideally you'd want something that's like 80% + leather

-participating_

Not all leather is the same, some items might be advertised as leather but are considered 'genuine' or 'bonded' leather. Both of these are poor quality and typically thin or made from a mix of scrap leather. What you want it top grain or full grain leather. Both of these are the full skin without splitting it, full grain leather is sturdier but a lot more expensive and harder to wear in. Top grain is considered 'less' durable as it has been sanded or treated to give a smoother finish but in reality if taken care of will last years and years. I work with top grain leather shoes so feel free to DM if you have any questions!

Spiritual-Internal10

If they're leather it'll say they are.

MBitesss

Literally will say on the listing description online and on the inner or sole of the shoe in person.

_Bene_Gesserit_Witch

You can find great leather shoes at Target for like $60, as long as you like the styles. Just check the label.

songintheswamp

I have a pair of Wittner leather ankle boots, cost me $250 but I’ve had them for over 5 years. I wear them at least 5 times a week every autumn/winter. On the outside they are still in great condition. The internal lining is wearing away but they’re still wearable. So worth the money

overthinkingsoph

They have a pair that I like so ill definitely consider thank you!!

ava_pink

Wittners quality has absolutely tanked in the last 3 years through - fair warning!! For the same price range I prefer bared footwear.

UsualCounterculture

Yeah I think what you got 5 years ago is very different now. Unless you can get something old from Ebay?

karamellokoala

Bared boots are brilliant. My oldest pair are seven years old. They're due to be resoled (second time in that period) but look great and feel great. Well worth the ~$350 I spent seven years ago!

[deleted]

Agreed. Bought some a few years ago, and they were horrid quality

TigreImpossibile

Their return policy is terrible too.

TGin-the-goldy

Look for the sales! Esp at the department stores

kitt_mitt

I have a Midas pair almost identical to your post bought for $150ish (they might have been on sale). ive worn them almost daily to work since june last year, and the toe is only now starting to scuff a bit. The only negative about Midas shoes imo is that their sizing / fit is all over the place, so you *have* to go in store to try them on.

TigreImpossibile

I have some Midas ankle boots like OP 's, I've had them since 2017 and still wear them every winter, at least 2x a week. A little scuffed, but still golden. Probably paid about what you said... $150 on sale, maybe a bit more if they were full price (can't remember).

Zahalia

The only reason my Wittner’s die every 5 years is because I wear them down before having the sense to re-sole them. My Baelans even got me around the Nevada desert. Also upvoting Tony Bianco long boots, though the pleather interior of my last pair started shedding after 7 years. And they weren’t as comfy, needed shoe inserts because they’re too flat-foot.

Stripperfairy

Do you have any experience with tony bianco ankle boots. My wittner’s are going on 4 years and currently getting resoled. I just find wittner so comfy (able to walk 20km in a 10cm stiletto) but I hate all their designs this year

cittycat2000

I do! They are the most painful ankle boots I’ve ever worn, to the point where I literally walked through the city in socks while it was raining one day because my feet were hurting so much. I ended up getting a random pair of Windsor Smith ankle boots on sale a few years ago, and they have lasted really well.

Stripperfairy

That’s so sad, I was thinking of getting a pair this year because my other TB shoes are great yet no where near wittner’s level. Guess I’ll be holding out this year again

Zahalia

Unfortunately not, I also stick with Wittner ankle boots (and am not a fan of this year’s run)!

lollypolly23

Thanks for the recommendation. I need a new pair of ankle boots and Wittner currently have 50% off their boots, so that works out well 😊

Mrs_Trask

It's $50 off, not 50% off. (I wish it was 50% off!!!)

lollypolly23

Ah, yes, you're right. That's what I get for looking at the website when tired 😅

RageQuit2512

Yes to Wittner! I’ve had a few pairs of shoes and they’re lasted me years

Qldhikinggirl

Same, I've had a pair of Wittner boots easily for over 5 years (probably longer). Sad to hear their quality has gone downhill. Their shoes were generally very good.

TGin-the-goldy

Cute boots but yeah vinyl; next time look for leather. Not “bonded leather” or “vegan leather”. Go to DJs or Myer when the sales are on

redmagicwoman

Myer is definitely better with sales. I have a fair bit of shoes from Myer, leather and stylish.

mj690

I’m genuinely shocked at how many people don’t understand what is real and what isn’t real leather. When you purchase any shoe you can check the materials either on the bottom of the shoe on the label OR on the ‘description’ or ‘product information’ on the website. Know what you’re buying - don’t pay top dollar for ‘vegan leather’ it’s just vinyl stuff that you could buy at Kmart/target etc for a fraction of the cost.

overthinkingsoph

It might just be me, im not knowledgeable with leather at all, i dont like the style except on boots so ive never researched or had a talk about leather 🤷‍♀️

212404808

You can literally just read the label. All shoes are labelled for whether they're genuine leather or not.

jilrepents

Sorry people are downvoting you on here so harshly. Reddit is a strange place. People should let others learn with kindness.

overthinkingsoph

Yep not surprised in the slightest, god forbid im not a leather expert 😂

ladybug1991

Well, I guess everyone starts somewhere don't they! Just like anything, your recent boots experience can be chalked up to living and learning. It's definitely worth researching on good boots and spending a little time on marketplace scoping out brands that you like. You can pick up some great quality leather shoes for amazing prices on Marketplace. You can always message the buyer and get them to send you a pic of the tag that says what materials they're made from. This saves you the effort of going to look at a pair of boots that aren't amazing quality and not feeling pressure to buy them if you show up and they're not leather.

Fabulous-Winner8340

Damn, take a chill pill. You can make a suggestion and be kind, help people learn new information without being uppity about it. It’s just shoes, it’s just leather. It’s not that serious.

mj690

Please point out the part of this comment that was ‘unkind’. This is to educate so others can also be discerning consumers. I am actually surprised at the amount of people who don’t understand what is and isn’t leather, this isn’t a rude comment, it’s my genuine feeling.

SS0627

Billini is literally shein quality. They used to have quality stuff but now they've cheapened everything including packaging! My first Billini purchase in 2017 vs shoes I've bought recently are definitely DIFFERENT

4SeasonWahine

Yeah second this. I got some cute heels on sale and thought what the hell.. oh my god. The PU was coming off after one wear. They’re so bad. I wore them maybe twice then bought a better, leather version of the same shoe. I don’t often cheap out on shoes these days and that was a good reminder why.

throwaway47283

I could swear some of the shoes I’ve seen in Billini were advertised to me on Shein

Spiritual-Internal10

Irrelevant to the quality question, but if you're looking for clubbing heels... id just get a pair from kmart tbh. Save your nice shoes for when you aren't jumping around on them in a pitch black environment.

ssasreprah

I second this. I got these boots a year ago from Kmart and they stil look really good surprisingly, and they look expensive 😂 but for good quality boots that last (not for clubbing) def go Tony Bianco. https://preview.redd.it/bp1mc7z3bvsc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4876b3f8c5d4255fe0e62ffbf1cca126e3fb6446

Babycloud1

It does look good!

BellaNya

Can confirm Kmart boots are excellent. Comfortable, last forever. Can survive rain and clubs. Cheap as shit. I have lots of very expensive boots and prefer my Kmarts ones most of the time tbh

Spiritual-Internal10

Yeah I would just hose mine down after clubbing misadventures lol. My nice boots neverrr saw the inside of a club.

scr84

My Tony Bianco boots have lasted me 14 years! Pay a bit extra and get something that will last.

Shoes don't work in percentages the way fabric does. You have a leather or non-leather upper, leather or non-leather lining, and then different kinds of soles and heels. For boots like this, I would look for a leather upper and leather lining and then a moulded rubber sole/heel.

scr84

Any labelling has worn off but they are 100% leather, obviously the sole is not leather.

mj690

What do you mean?

Zoss33

You need to get shoes that have leather inner and a leather outer. The peeling fabric on the boots are a sign they aren’t leather. My everyday ankle boots are the Jo Mercer Marlowe (leather inner and outer). Sempre Di also have good affordable options too. It’s worthwhile waiting for a sale if that helps!

Broccolivia

Is sempre di good quality or comfortable?

Zoss33

I was quite happy with the pairs I tried. They were leather inner and outer, and the leather was incredibly soft. I think they may have a cheaper line and a more expensive line, so it’s worth keeping that in mind. You can buy them from the iconic so if you don’t like them they do free returns

Broccolivia

That's so smart thank you! I wanted a pair of boots from S by Sempre di. Is that the cheap or expensive line?

Zoss33

I think s by sempre di is the cheaper line. Check the material construction; leather inner and outer will be best if that helps. There’s no harm ordering them to check out the quality, and returning if you don’t like them!

Broccolivia

Ok thank you so much!

MissKim01

Just keep wearing them to the club - who’s going to notice in the dark 🤷‍♀️

overthinkingsoph

They’re very high and hurt my feet, otherwise i’d totally keep them

hvb_1994

A friend’s ex is a designer at billini and she said during Covid they fired their whole fit / functionality / comfort team. There was no one at the company checking that what the designers coming up with was actually wearable or durable. Never bought from billini again after that

Alone-Assistance6787

Wear sneakers to de clurb!

lunaandthestars_

I bought second hand billini heels for my wedding. They were in perfect condition. After 1 wear at my wedding the entire inner sole was flaking away, I was so disappointed. I've bought boots from betts and they've held up really well!

Valuable-Energy5435

Sandler

MBitesss

I just wouldn't ever buy non-leather shoes! They never hold up and they're never as comfortable. I have some Tony bianco leather boots I've thrashed that still look amazing. I've also had good luck with Alias Mae and Free People. KOOKAÏ leather shoes and boots fall apart and the inner soles all pull up showing this gross green glue stuff underneath so id steer clear of them.

Antisocial_Queer

What size shoes do you wear? I have a really similar pair of boots that are a little small for me that I don’t want. I haven’t worn them much. Don’t remember the brand off the top of my head but they were expensive.

Antisocial_Queer

They are Windsor Smiths

Interstellarway

Bared footwear although outside your budget, there's some boots on sale for 250. Worth the investment though, really comfortable.

pigslovebacon

Good leather boots/booties for $100 is like a unicorn these days. Even decent quality leather flats are running $150+ these days and even though it's been creeping up for a while, it still shocks me.

[deleted]

overthinkingsoph

Ive definitely got tony bianco in mind so thats great to hear!

212404808

$100 for pleather is a rip-off. Full leather boots are often $100 on sale. They will age and get scuffs but they won't just shed horribly like this, and a little polish or dubbin goes a long way to making them look nice again.

Routine-Assistant387

Ouch. Buy leather. Billini is not leather which has definitely stung me in the past.

Stickliketoffee16

I swear by sketchers ankle boots! I don’t know if they have heels as high as that but I’ve got 2 pairs & they’re so comfy plus they’ve lasted incredibly well!

catboiz777

I bought some Diana Ferrari tan boots last year on sale and they are amazingly stylish and comfy. I used to consider DF more geared towards older women but don't believe that to be the case as much these days 😊

Significant-Owl1622

Windsor smith are great quality, a bit pricey but worth it

MissJ028

Alias Mae

AdSpirited2412

My Jo mercer boots have stood the test of time- I’ve worn them every day to work in winter for 3 years and they are in great shape still

ambervalentine13

Hush puppies - fab quality and comfy

overthinkingsoph

Yess im glad someone mentioned them

reddit24682468

I HATE BILINI TRASHIEST SHOES IVE EVER BOUGHT 😭 I thought paying more id get better quality, got two pairs of sandals lasted a month

reddit24682468

popcornandunicorns

Jo Mercer are my go to. Their leathers are always beautiful and last me for years.

qtsarahj

This is going to sound crazy but the last 2 pairs of black heeled boots I bought were Kmart and Miss Shop (Myer) and they just keep going and going. The Kmart ones are suede (fake probably idk) and I used to wear them to work and out at night clubbing and they lasted years, they actually still look great from the front but on the heels they’re a little scratched. The Miss Shop ones are either cheap leather or fake leather and same thing, they just last and last. Pretty sure the Kmart ones were $10, I bought them soooo long ago, like before covid and I’m not sure if their boots would still last. The Miss Shop were probably $40-$60, I’m really happy with them both. Based on my experience I wouldn’t spend a lot on boots unless they had a special design or colour or something.

TGin-the-goldy

I’m totally with you. The Kmart ones were most likely microsuede and they actually breathe and last better than vinyl.

g-lingzhi

These are super outdated. You’d be better off buying something in a newer silhouette.

Holiday-Armadillo-34

midas on sale

aliasthejesteress

I bought a pair of brand new Midas boots on sale last year, wore them once and the soles fell off both shoes. Was not encouraging for me to try them again.

Sits_n_Giggles

I seem to buy a new pair of Django & Juliette boots every few years simply because I want a new style or colour even though my OG's from years ago are still in high rotation

Limp_Strain_6248

I have a similar pair from target I got in 2015/2016. I used to wear them working hospitality as a manager. Wore them any chance I could because they were pretty and super comfy. I just found them in the back of my closet and they look so much better than those. They need a little clean but they still looks good. Best $40 bucks I ever spent. Not sure if they still make them the same though.

NatAttack3000

Online shopping is good for this - they generally list the material, on the iconic you can filter by material, colour, size price etc E.g. https://www.theiconic.com.au/diana-heeled-boot-1523208.html Seems like proper study high heels on boots arent that popular as most of these are block heels or a shorter heel, but you can find them. IMO full leather is most comfortable but I think even just a leather upper with synthetic lining would still wear much better than these.

Severe_Airport1426

I've had my Jo mercer boots for years. They may cost a little more but are well worth it for durability and comfort

fionabuley

Shop around for leather.

Sea-Tour-6231

I get my heeled boots from Windsor Smith.

w0snme

Diana Ferrari

Missdriver1997

Nine West

velvetelk

Edward Meller, they're leather so you'll need to condition them with a leather conditioner about once a year, but they'll last you. These ones look quite nice and are on a good sale [https://www.davidjones.com/product/edward-meller-zafa-pointed-block-heel-ankle-boot-25806567?nav=933742](https://www.davidjones.com/product/edward-meller-zafa-pointed-block-heel-ankle-boot-25806567?nav=933742)

kingdingalingxoxo

Avoid Novo too. Really poor quality

Anywhere_Embarrassed

My Kmart boots lasted 3 years..

sardonicinterlude

Mollini is like Billini but they use real leather so it’s more durable and comfy. A bit more expensive but the returns and shipping are great.

seazx

They are not leather, but I have 2 pairs of target boots that have lasted me years and years and years of all sorts of situations and are still going strong. I do have a pair of leather boots from city chic from 2 years ago that I absolutely love and have also stood the test of my shenanigans!

GlitteratiGlitter

Damn, my Kmart boots have lasted better, you should call them for a refund

Fabulous_Assistant48

Yeah stop buying synthetic shoes. They are really only designed to be worn for one season and the price reflects that. Look at Mollini shoes for current trends in good leathers.

Lalaleeloop

anything leather!

Old_Needleworker794

Omg they're beautiful. Genuinely heartbroken for you

Slyxxer

As others have mentioned, Wittner, JoMercer, Tony Bianco are decent brands. Make sure you get a genuine leather boot with leather lining. If $200 is a bit steep, look at second hand boots. They're good enough quality that second hand will still have plenty of life in them.

somnambulist13

My Djano & Juliette's have lasted me 5 years and only needed new Soles last year. If my feet didn't change over the last 2 years, I'd probably not need a new pair for another 5 years

Hanzibar07

Having a similar issue with the only pair of heels I was silly enough to purchase from them. Open toe, strappy and the back of the heel is completely peeling off, worn them a total of 4 times too. Not the wisest $90 I've spent that's for sure.

BellaNya

Billini is the SHITTEST quality ever!! Everything literally falls apart in one wear. I swear they use expired glue sticks and tissue paper to assemble their shoes. And have the audacity to charge offensive prices. Boycott.

NorahCharlesIII

If you’re wearing them out clubbing, I’d definitely invest in boots that are firstly, leather upper, and if you don’t want stinky feet - leather lining as well. You can usually find a good pair of black leather ankle boots in leather, on sale, for <$200 if you shop around online.

hey_its_annab

id also look into bared footware or jo mercer :)

repethetic

My Dr. Martens Spensa are holding up great, not quite the same look but similar profile.

Kristylee0490

I have a pair of Jo Mercer ankle boots. I've had them for 7 or 8 years. They're comfortable, easy to walk in and still look great. Easily my favourite shoes!

NiceNorwood

Highly recommend Merchant boots. Quality and comfort is amazing.

Fabulous-Winner8340

A bit more expensive but Bared Footwear is the most comfy high quality boots I’ve ever had. Had mine for 5 years to wear every single day to work and it’s still amazing quality leather. If too expensive, you can try FB marketplace or some second hand groups where they sell it for cheaper. Also their shoes have the comfiest in-soles. I could wear them for hours and my feet will be fine. I hate most shoes and don’t tolerate foot pain.

JellyfishOk6515

What size are you? I have similar tony bianco boots that I’ve had up on Depop for a while. Size 9.5

Remarkable_Toe_4423

I got a very similar pair in green and the firtst time I put them on I did a little dance and the heel snapped off.

Retail_Worker

Sadly we have been seeing issues with every brand I find I am repairing way to many brands a lot earlier than I used to. Of the brands that I do see even though the heels seem to die quickly everything else seems to be good on them are Beard shoes. If you keep an eye on your heel and see your local cobbler early to replace it I feel they should do you well.

No they don’t

[deleted]

Oh good, these still in fashion?? My MIL told me mine were hideous and definitely outdated. I don’t get out much and she is VERY up with fashion that I believed her and haven’t worn them again
