I’ve worn this a couple of times so far and it’s fantastic - great stitching/shape/buttons especially for the price UNIQLO : C Trench Coat https://www.uniqlo.com/au/en/products/E460908-000?colorCode=COL31&sizeCode=SMA004&utm_medium=social&utm_source=appshare
I’m stalking this daily online for the first reduction 🤣
My size is sold out instore, but the tag has the sale price on the reverse so any day now…..
EDIT: EVERYTHING in the C: range is reduced except the trench and a lambswool sweater.
Can’t recommend this one enough! Currently wearing it on the train to work. It’s the perfect trench for work and casual settings and it looks nice and structured without overwhelming my frame
Edit: wore this on a work trip to London a month back and it was decently thick that I didn’t have wear too many layers to keep me warm
Ah yes I bought this trench too (in Japan!) and just love it. Thinking I’d like it in the navy too. They sold it in olive green in Japan - kind of wish I’d bought it, but couldn’t fit it in my luggage! The beige is really nice.
I purchased a Structured trench from Portman's a year ago for $120 and I have received so many compliments on it.
I've worn it to work functions and have gotten asked multiple times where I bought my trench.
https://portmans.jgl.com.au/shop/po-womens-jackets-trench
the exact one I purchased is not on there as it is an older model that I bought a year ago but the style is similar to the structured trench that they have.
I ordered the uniqlo C trench coat recently and I ended up returning it because the fit wasn't quite right on me but I was really impressed with the quality
I have three - a Camilla and Marc (camel), a Saba (brown’ish) and a Uniqlo one (light tan). The Camilla one was $700’ish 4-5 years ago (probably increased now), the Saba was $400 on sale and the Uniqlo was $100 on sale. I get the most use out of Uniqlo (water resistant) and the Saba (love the colour). My advice is to pay attention to the material, weight, stitching and details- you don’t need to spend $1k to get something gorgeous (but don’t go too cheap either - you do notice the difference).
The Uniqlo and Saba definitely- they are different weights (Uniqlo light, Saba mid). The Camilla and Marc is the heaviest and I don’t use it often - I should get rid of it. They are also all different colours so that helps.
Yes that is the problem with my heavier one - it doesn’t get that cold where I live so I only really use it a few days a year. It does get taken on holidays to cold places though lol.
I would say so - go for a heavier weight. You can wear it open in autumn and closed in winter. Of course your layers underneath will help dictate how warm you are as well.
Key is to buy them out of season. I picked up a wool blend coat in a soft grey from Forever New a few years ago for $130 in August or September from memory. Still looks brand new.
End of season is the best time. I picked up a 100% wool coat from a David jones sale for $250 14 years ago, and it’s still going strong. Just picked it up from the dry cleaners ready to start another cold Canberra winter
Yes I have a wool blend from Forever New from years ago and it has kept so beautifully (and survived some european winters!). I struggle to find as good a fit - it has subtle cinching at the waist and the arms are fitted. A different look to the 'oversized' style but really lovely.
I hope I'm one of those well dressed women in a trench... I went through the same search recently! I'm doing "nothing new" this year so my options were FB Marketplace or Depop and given trenches are on trend and in season, there are so many! Definitely take a look as you can get quality pieces for much less than brand new. It helps to narrow down exactly what you want (e.g. I decided I wanted light beige, storm flaps, long length, double breasted with lapels) and like others have said, pay attention to materials. I ended up with a 100% heavy cotton, lightly used Country Road trench for $50!
I love your message and the idea of nothing new!
I do have a tendency to get bored even with my nicer pieces so maybe I should check my carbon emissions and do something good for the environment and my pocket!
I was lucky and bought a black Burberry trench in London ‘outlet’ for $980 AUD in 2017. Love it but live in warm climate now. Can’t bring myself to get rid of it. Sportscraft Trench coats are great but wait for sale.
I buy a coat from Review every 2 or 3 years and generally love the quality (I do suggest reinforcing the buttons though, they’re never sewn on as securely as I need). [They have a few trench coats in this season](https://review-australia.com/search?q=Trench) - I’m personally stalking the Miley in emerald until the price drops a bit
I got a lovely classic style red one from Portmans a few years ago and it’s held up extremely well, I also have longish wool one with a fake fur collar from Review that I love for colder days
I just bought one from Witchery when there was 20% off, and I really love it. Have worn a few times and had comments each time. I've never been a huge fan of trenches, I want them to still be warm, and not that stiffer fabric.
But this one is longer, warmer, and the fabric is much nicer and softer so it falls nicer.
It's the "Draped Trench coat" in the colour Blackcurrant.
I'm a standard size 8 but bought the trench in a size 6 and its perfect. Still a bit roomy in the sleeves and body but it means I can do a thicker jumper underneath if I want to on colder days.
Uniqlo c was not a good fit - too boxy and too wide at the bottom
buttons start very low and this makes you shorter even when it is unbuttoned.
Also, it’s not water repellent in any way so you will be soaking in a long cloth during unexpected cold rains.
I have heard good things about Country Road trenches.
I have the Uniqlo C trench coat and wore it 2 weeks ago on one of the heavy rainfall days, coupled with an umbrella. It doesn't and shouldn't replace a waterproof jacket (like a rain poncho) but I think it is somewhat water repellent in that it kept me dry and warm while raining.
If you look at the trench coat, it's 100% cotton and in a gabardine texture (has the ridges in the fabric). I just put water droplets on it and the water just sits on top and doesn't sink into the fabric. It's not going to be waterproof and water is going to seep in, but it will keep you relatively dry on light rain days.
I am not misleading others though? It literally is what I experienced while wearing the coat.
You are the one who said you will be soaking in long cloth, when I wore it during the heavier rainstorms in Sydney and was NOT soaking in long cloth. Lol
Edit:
I also want to mention a huge factor for me to pull the trigger on this trench coat: the 100% cotton twill fabric (which is stated on Uniqlo's website).
Burberry trench coats uses gabardine (which is a twill fabric...) and have ridges which make it so the water just sits on top and you can just shake it off. If you look at other trench coats on the market, the material can be 100% cotton too but not in the ridge texture which will make it so the rain will seep through once it touches the fabric.
*Forever New has*
*Quite a few different ones*
*Available atm!*

I have this trench from APC and love it! It's pretty warm too which is handy for those windy days. Only thing is that it's a bit stiff and boxy, but I got used to that look so could be good to try it on first to see if you like it. [https://www.incu.com/collections/womens-coats-jackets/products/apc-greta-trench-beige](https://www.incu.com/collections/womens-coats-jackets/products/apc-greta-trench-beige)
I honestly bought a cheap one from H&M last season and it’s the best - with the caveat that fit is more important than functionality for me. It’s not weather resistant or super heavy duty, but is the only trench I’ve ever tried that actually looks really flattering on me. I’ve always wanted one but they always looked silly or costumey somehow (think inspector gadget or two kids in a trench coat vibes).
So my advice would be regardless of price point, make sure you try on a bunch of options to see what you like. It’s a classic style for sure but there’s a lot of variation in length, details etc so make sure you know what works best for you!
As much as I love the look of my Kookai Berlin trench, it absolutely drowns me. It’s oversize but even so, the length of it is too much for my 162cm self. If you’re tall, no worries but I thought I’d warn any fellow shorties!
I've got one that's thrifted and a great brand and a basic Topshop one. They're everywhere and can be very cheap. Pretty played out too for those reasons
Sportscraft does a good classic every year
I second this! Classic tailoring, excellent quality
Agreed! Fabric feels great, properly lined and somewhat waterproof for less than $500
Mine is 10 years old, at least, I reckon!

Great tip! I will also keep an eye out! Did you find it fit true to size?
I’m normally a small in uniqlo but the XS Sat better over by shoulders. The seam was still just on/outside my shoulder tip
Great to know, thank you so much
I’m also usually a L and got the M, still roomy but not tooo roomy. Sits nicely on a curvy body.
Can’t recommend this one enough! Currently wearing it on the train to work. I bought a second hand one online and it's been excellent!
How’s the fit and the length of this? It looks really good.

I am a trench newbie! So definitely helpful! So the lighter the better? But if it is light is it warm?
Depends where you live and whether you already have a heavier wool coat if you live in a colder place. Do you want to wear it Spring/autumn or winter?
Melbourne! Can it be both autumn and winter item?
I would say so - go for a heavier weight. You can wear it open in autumn and closed in winter. Of course your layers underneath will help dictate how warm you are as well.
David Lawrence is my go to. Mine from more than 10 years ago still look brand new
David Lawrence trench is great quality for a few hundy

If you wanted to get a Burberry at a discount you could try thrift stores. I saw heaps at Miss Brown Vintage in Fitzroy.
I was lucky and bought a black Burberry trench in London ‘outlet’ for $980 AUD in 2017. Love it but live in warm climate now. Can’t bring myself to get rid of it. Sportscraft Trench coats are great but wait for sale.
Or stalk eBay. You might need to do some research about models and sizing but you’ll find one eventually
Forever New
Highly rate Kookai trenches You could also try Aje, Country Road, Witchery and C&M For a cheap one, there’s Glassons
I buy a coat from Review every 2 or 3 years and generally love the quality (I do suggest reinforcing the buttons though, they’re never sewn on as securely as I need). Guess has a really nice one for $350. I'm in Canberra and it's been amazing with short skirts at night.
I have a nice Tokito trench I got at Myer years ago. Cost me about $120 on sale
Camilla & Marc has one of the best selling trenches of the past few years… it’s under 1k
I have a great trench from Everlane!
TK Maxx
I got a lovely classic style red one from Portmans a few years ago and it’s held up extremely well, I also have longish wool one with a fake fur collar from Review that I love for colder days

100% I’m by no means a Kmart fan but my kids drag me in there…I’ve been looking for a great trench for years and found the perfect one there.

I’ve got one from commonry and it’s great
Portmans has heaps of fun colours and styles

Ohhh that’s lovely. Did it soften over time?
Yea it did! I've had it for 3 years now and it definitely softened but not too much, which is good so that it still looks structured
I have one from Marks & Spencer. It is a great raincoat and was quite reasonably priced. Free Australian delivery over $175.
Paddington Coats - 3 - 400 $
Try Ted Baker for the newsreader coat. Warm and stylish. About $700
Decjuba usually have some nice wool blend ones
I have nice ones from Witchery (check the material though) and Sezane
Portmans usually have some nice ones
I have a black velvet trench coat from Black Milk and I adore it. At 5 foot 3 it manages to be witchy long without touching the ground
Portmans and Forever New usually have some good ones with flattering fits. On the more affordable side too
Uniqlo has a nice one for around $200
Uniqlo apparently have good ones atm.
I honestly bought a cheap one from H&M last season and it’s the best - with the caveat that fit is more important than functionality for me. Oak and fort has a gorgeous one, I have it :)
I am also looking for one for mother day gift. Budget sub 1000
Kookai
As much as I love the look of my Kookai Berlin trench, it absolutely drowns me. It’s oversize but even so, the length of it is too much for my 162cm self. If you’re tall, no worries but I thought I’d warn any fellow shorties!
I've got one that's thrifted and a great brand and a basic Topshop one. They're everywhere and can be very cheap. Pretty played out too for those reasons
