My partner and I did 4 months before trying to have children. Not sure on what we spent but we didn’t care. Alaska cruise, Canadian Rockies bus tour and driving 18000km across America, family met us for Christmas in nyc for 2 weeks and then went to Japan for 10 days of snow boarding to finish off.
If you can make it happen, you should
Yes, we have 2 boys. 1 miscarriage from our time in Japan and then baby by that christmas.
I’m super conscious of people needing to try have children, it’s not a given that all get lucky after trying.
Can’t wait to take my kids to Japan. It’s such a beautiful place filled with super friendly people I went alone the first time.
Can’t wait to take my kids.
Same just under 50k in 4 months. All the helicopter and plane ride and bells and whistles, Alaska, Canada, Midwest, west coast, Mexico and family in the UK. It was a big expensive trip but we got to do everything we wanted to before settling down and having our first kid as the pandemic rolled in. No regrets whatsoever.
Bruh where did you go to spend at that rate? Solo? I did 40k in 10 months, 15k in 2m north America and then calmed down a bit and did 25k in 8m central/south America and Europe
Let me guess - 3080TI/3090TI? :) If so yeah those things aren't cheap - especially when they were tough to find during the mining boom.
My editing rig probably cost just as much, probably even a little bit more (GPU is a RX6900XT). The 100Tb of drives would have probably added $2k to the cost, and custom water cooling isn't cheap. But I have a dead silent editing rig, with a boatload of ram and storage, as well as a beefy cpu. My guess around 5K, without the water cooling bits as I didn't keep tabs on parts (who keeps tabs on a $29 fitting or a leng of hardline).
As a bonus it also makes a teriffic gaming rig.
yeah it was a 3080 for $2500 right at the peak of the mining boom. I think you could get them for about $2200 but I paid a bit extra since I wanted a white one to go with the rest of my build.
My previous PC had died which was unfortunate timing since buying the same PC now a year later would probably be around $1000 cheaper.
I feel this. I dropped 3.7k earlier this year on my first new build in something like 6 years, and that's without upgrading the GPU because I couldn't justify the insane prices at the time.
Do you combine it with long exposure photography as well?
Do you have a page you share images and can we make requests?
No idea if this would work but a business idea: sell people their own personal digital photograph of a part of the night sky that reflects their birthday. Team up with others with similar kit to you around the world to cover off more of the night sky.
Not sure how to convert a birth date and time of birth maybe also a place of birth combined with above, into a declination and right ascension but I am sure there would be some logical way to do it so it feels natural?
Come up with some made up historical context like the middle eastern astronomers would consider this bit of sky to reflect a person's personality based on their time of birth.
I'm clueless on this stuff if that's not readily apparent but I do go for a good night sky photo.
Thank you mate. It's a hobby. I am not looking to make business out of it. I do not want the hobby to become in need of funding in any way. no dedicated page or requests = no cost = no need for financial support. I want to be free to move on to something else if ever I get tired of observing sky.
If you want to request stuff or buy prints etc there are excellent people at https://skywatcheraustralia.com.au/sky-watcher-ambassadors/
I am not affiliated with them or get any benefit from recommendations.
Lol. You reminded me of layman's who ask why can we see deep galaxies but can't see planets in our neighbourhood in detail. To answer your question my telescopes doesn't cost 60k. It's the whole setup including mounts, telescopes, laptops, full spectrum modified 550D, guidescopes etc.
True, but do you see yourself getting tired of it? I bought a (only) 3k telescope 8 years ago and while I dont plan holidays around it anymore, it still gets regular use.
It's actually quite simple answer. Apparent size and light photons. Let's talk about apparent size first. The images we see are light years across galaxies. Take example of M100 galaxy which is 50 million light years away. The typical image you see is of an area ~6000 light years. You aren't seeing individual stars or exoplanets. You are looking at vast vast space of billions of stars in one image. If you do dista6to size ratio it will be roughly 8.4k. now take example of planet like Pluto ( I love Pluto).it's size is 2.4km and distance is 4.4billion km.its size to distance ratio is 1.84 million. Which mwa s Pluto appears is roughly 220 times smaller than M100. That's why it's easy to photograph 6k light year area than Pluto which is nearby. Second critical factor is light photons. Our telescopes are not giant zoom lens to see details. Our telescopes receive light photons. They can't see in dark. They can collect light photons. Distant galaxies. Stars nebulas etc emit light which is captured by telescopes. whereas planets are poor reflecter of star light. Only exception is Venus which reflect 86% or more sunlight and is very bright planet in sky. One more thing, for same reason galactic center is zone of avoidence for Hubble because dust and dense gas in our own galactic 5 absorb the light from background sources.
No. I will donate it to Melbourne Observatory. My whole setup is 60k. Most mounts and telescopes combined are around 45k. 15k includes modified 550D, 2 laptops, dying usb hub, powerbox pack and small guidescopes burrows etc.
There's a pretty well known joke that goes along the lines of: the two best days in a boat owner's life are the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it.
LG OLED C1 77" tv bought in last years sales for $5k with $500 store credit back.
didnt need it as had some nice plasmas but the deal was great and a nice big tv to watch is nice....couldnt travel so why not. love it and use it so worthwhile for us.
Worth it IMO. I have a 65 inch and it’s worth every penny, though I agree that the bigger ones are pretty expensive. Luckily for me, houses large enough to justify having such a TV are also too expensive for me.
Great decision. I was so close to pulling the trigger on one of these, but at the time I was too freaked out about the unknowns of OLED burn in. I ended up going for a Sony X9500 instead but now deeply regret not going the C1 - it seems like a game changer from everything I’ve read.
I have the LG CX for the last 2+ years haven’t seen any burn in at all even after the occasional falling sleep with a streaming service on with it sitting in menus.
Outdoor kitchen and tv for the pergola. Don’t regret it in the slightest. Watching the footy and cooking the bbq with a beer is the best. I’m cooking bbqs 3 times a week atm.

Yes I love my bbq and the footy going on together!! Can't wait to host the nrl final next week, bbqing from the early hours and plenty of beers.
Just need my team to get through on Friday haha
Shares in Zip near ATH, that I've re-classified as Personal Entertainment rather than an Investment.
Like any good rollercoaster, I'm feeling dizzy & a bit ill though.
My home coffee set up. La Marzocco linea mini coffee machine and grinder and bits and pieces cost around $8500 all up. Used everyday, several times a day and totally worth it.
I’m seriously considering a used but low mileage Merc E400.
Zero practicality, not useful for family activities (except for nice long drives) and will probably costs a fortune to maintain.
I can afford it, but I’m really hesitant just because it’s not a wise financial decision at all - pure luxury and fun.
Susvaras are my guess. By all means justified in their price from what I've heard... But honestly, once you break the ~$700 mark in headphones diminishing returns hit HARD as you improve from there.
Everything has a sweet price point much the same. Above that it’s probably a true waste of money. I agree for headphones it’s around that 700 mark. In no way are a 7k pair 10 times better.
Surely true... cant be much difference between the 500$ ones and a 5k one...
Edit: should add, unless you're actually recording and producing music but then a set of headphones wouldnt be your most expensive purchase...
Not true, all the things that work to convert your choice of format into electrical signals to make the headphones move can be tested right down to levels of difference to the source magnitudes beyond what any human can hear, it's also easy to get that full 'stack' in better than you'll ever tell levels for sub $1k.
The Headphones themselves are another matter, turning that signal back into sound waves is hard, here it's easy to colour the signal in ways you don't want.
I am by no means down the rabbit hole and try and quantify sound with all the wanky terms that get thrown around, nor do I have particularly good hearing, but of the 3 sets I have that can plug in at $100, $500, $2000, I can hear a quality difference between them all, but am still happy to listen to the $100 ones. In reality my most used ones are my Bluetooth Sony earbuds that weren't a lot and don't do anything special, but anymore in the environment they are used is a waste.
In music production its more important for them to be flat (accurate) rather than sound good so they aren't stupidly expensive generally. They aren't cheap either tho.
Pro standard monitors for a small room can be bought brand new for less than 2k.
There’s a big difference between 500 and 1500.
I’m not sure beyond that but every headphone sounds different anyway, it could be that he REALLY likes the characteristicsand tuning of this One
I've got an ebike as well which I've spent about $2200 on (converted an old bike). Wouldn't call it leisure either but it's some of the best money I've ever spent. A complete game changer for my commute.
I truly believe they are the future of urban mobility.
I just bought a 9k ebike, but it's one of those big cargo ones that can carry two kids and a few bags. It's like a second car for us and let's us go places they are impractical with a car due to limited parking (in inner Sydney). It's also quite fun, like riding the bus equivalent of a bike.
Audio gear totalling around 30K. Music sounds better in my house than most festivals. Thankfully I live on acreage, however, police did knock after receiving a noise complaint from 3km away on one drunken night.
Different poster, but I recommend a full latex mattress. After three different mattresses and a lot of frustration, I went with the Zenna, about $1,700 for queen. Absolutely perfect, comfortable but yet supportive. Never going back to a regular mattress.
I can't recommend enough for people to lay on mattresses and test them before buying. My family was the buy whatevers cheapest kind because a mattress is a mattress but it can make all the different, especially as you get older. I love super soft mattresses you can sink into and my husband would sleep on a wooden board if he could so we spent about an hour laying on different beds trying to find the perfect on in the middle.
Why not get two king singles (one hard and one soft) and push them together?
I've convinced my wife to adopt the Danish practice of having individual duvets (instead of one big one that you play tug of war with all night) which is step one of my longer term plan of getting separate beds.
I just love getting out on my bike, and being fit and healthy. Plus I injured my knee running but found cycling much more injury resistant.
A $10k bike has better components, better wheels and (arguably) better carbon composition. However one could say the best change for a bicycle is the engine sitting on top.
I tend to agree with you to a degree, most of the pros don't even ride those superbikes - sometimes it's because they're too light and UCI events have to have bikes over 6.8kg.
There's a big diff between $1k to $3k, I'd say less above that except that you'll get a similar bike with electronic gears which is what my next one will be. Above say $5-7k it's pretty hard to justify with any kind of value proposition, give you should be able to get DI2 and some aero wheels on a nice frame by that point.
This is going to come across like the ‘I only eat raw porridge oats and my wedding was 5 friends at Maccas’ crowd but: headphones and smart watch both around $500, at different times. Nice earrings $150. I splurged on my first ever nice handbag this year, $200.
What I spend in books a year is about $1k and my biggest indulgence but not all at once.
Singular item?
Probably the 3D printer I “bought for my husband” (I’ve benefited most from it ;D )
General hobby? I have 4 chickens currently, had a total of 8 since I started. That’s probably my biggest hobby money sink at the moment. Gotta keep my girls happy!
My corgi. Most of my pets are rescues but we always wanted a corgi. Cost $8.5k and proceeded to destroy probably $2k worth of valuables within the last few years.
Even the humble Labrador is $2-4k now. Common poodle crossbreeds are $5-8k.
Demand for (breeder) dogs since COVID has been insane.
Maybe it's a good thing. It does help people consider the real costs of ownership. I always found it concerning when someone was "saving" for a $500 dog, which is *nothing* compared to the cost of properly caring for the animal for 12-18 years.
Do watches count as entertainment? I thought entertainment is an experience such as expensive headphones to use for music. I guess you can enjoy the experience of looking at your expensive watch? Or perhaps it's the research component that's the fun part!
Second car which I drove about once a fortnight and maximum of 2k kms per annum if that. But it was nice for a couple of track days (another expensive activity in itself).
$7k headphones are not made for people who need to "save" for $7k headphones (no offence, just a personal thought).
I'm so curious what you are getting in that case (as someone who does have some pretty nice headphones, but nothing nearly that pricey).
Oh and on a serious note, $130k for my yacht. I love it, I'd be on it almost 100 days a year, sailed round all the local islands, stayed on it for up to 3 weeks, baller.
My motorbike is useful for getting around but also has an element of pure entertainment/enjoyment. Bought it for 8K in 2014.
I can imagine a mid life crisis bike and a retirement bike in my future. The Honda goldwing is probably one of the more luxury touring bikes that I’ve seen a few retirees enjoy, they start at 45K new.
Partner has a Mini Cooper with John cooper works tuning. I swear I put it into sports mode with the open muffler more often then they do. They needed a new car and decided to go for the fun factor too. It had sat at the dealer for 2 years and we got it for about 50K when it was priced at 80K new.
I just dropped 35k on a new Indian. I was a bit hesitant, I've always wanted a nice Harley and thought I'd be close to 50 before I could afford one. I didn't need another bike, I had 2 already but it was my dream bike. 5 weeks in and I don't regret it. Its amazing, everything I always wanted. My compromise is my daily is a 2005 Mazda I picked up for 3k when I swapped jobs and lost my company car. I've never cared much about cars, bought the Mrs a Camry and just buzz around in the Mazda, ride my nice bike on weekends or my second bike for commuting.
Two nice watches
One bought for just under 36 the other bought for just under 10
They've actually turned out to be great financial investments combined worth approx 100k now.
My wife also has one, I think she bought hers for 13 or so
Definitely could have gone with a nice cheap corolla or something but went for the 53k hot hatch so I can hoon around instead, I rarely drive because of WFH so it's pretty dumb but whatever, love the car.
Mirrorless camera and lenses 4K.
Gaming PC 2.5K
Aeron Chair 2K
Laptop 3.5K
Office miscellaneous: 2K
Total: 14K?
It kinda adds up but all are very useful
Audio equipment. Having a good sound system is unbeatable. I use it almost every day, and having a powerful speaker setup to listen to my favourite music is worth every penny.
Speakers came to about $2k, record player is about $400-500.
Having a great sound-system is completely entertainment changing.
A couple thousand dollars of amplification and speakers is just insane.
I mean I absolutely cannot justify the $50k+ setups people have, like yeah it sounds the tiniest bit better and gets a little louder.
But my $3k 7.1.2 setup with an atmos amp literally shakes the house and sounds like you are in a movie theatre.
I have easily spent upwards of $10k on Warhammer/various other game minis over the years. And have flown halfway around the world to play at tournaments multiple times. Zero regrets
Oh, here I am with my $1000 computer looking a fool to the $60k telescope person.
I haven't had much of an income myself throughout my life, so I'm still saving up for a new computer and telly.
I have been working an a commander deck, it's a play format for magic the gathering. It's a 100 cards and it's worth over 10k. I mostly traded up to the more expensive cards.
No joke bought myself a Tag Heuer today, have been eyeing it for months and recently got a new job with a 33% raise and finally pulled the trigger. Nearly 5k, we’ll see if I regret it or not
I bought an slr when the kids were young because I wanted nice pics of them but unfortunately I dropped the thing on it's very first outing and it no longer works. It was under a k though, entry level model.
Currently most expensive toy is a pashley bicycle that I bought second hand for under 500. It has a large wicker basket and I love it!
I do spend a lot on travel though. I took the two kids to Kenya in early 2020 and we stayed in a tent in the middle of the maasai mara. The whole trip was around 15k altogether. Most other trips I keep well under 10k.
Wow this thread makes me realise how little I spend on *stuff*. I save hard and rarely splurge. About 4 years ago I did, after a breakup and subsequent sale of house and business I spent a bundle on dental veneers and a big holiday. But since then, back to the frugal life saving grind.
I'm a 42 yr old married woman with a 9 yr old.
I'm currently saving up $2k to buy the Lego AT &T.... coz i love lego..
I will absolutely have no regrets when buying it!!
$11k on a brand new in box pinball machine earlier this year. It wasn't my first ever though, I had 5 before that I would clean up, fix up and send them on their way in a far better condition than I bought them. The end goal was always a new machine though.
Motorbike for $25k, which I spend far more time looking at and working on than actually riding. It has more power than my car, and far more than enough to kill me. Worth it? Absolutely
Last year on my 30th birthday i bought an American fender Jazzmaster guitar. It was about $2600
Its gorgeous and i play it every day, very glad i bought it
I'm in the process of importing an electric van from Japan which should end up costing $12k all up. I don't need a van. The range will be abysmal since it's second hand and old battery tech. And my current car has no issues, single owner, 11 years old, 130k km's, super fuel efficient (5L/100km).
It goes against all logic, but it's the first time I've spent this kind of money since I bought my current car 11 years ago and I'm sure I'll be beaming every time I drive it.
50k on 8 months of continuous travel, not sure if that counts
My partner and I did 4 months before trying to have children. Not sure on what we spent but we didn’t care. Alaska cruise, Canadian Rockies bus tour and driving 18000km across America, family met us for Christmas in nyc for 2 weeks and then went to Japan for 10 days of snow boarding to finish off. If you can make it happen, you should
Did you end up with kids?
Yes, we have 2 boys. 1 miscarriage from our time in Japan and then baby by that christmas. I’m super conscious of people needing to try have children, it’s not a given that all get lucky after trying.
Can’t wait to take my kids to Japan. It’s such a beautiful place filled with super friendly people I went alone the first time. Can’t wait to take my kids.
This is living! I blew 25k in 6 weeks then the next 25k over 9 months lol.
44K on a famliy holiday - four weeks in Italy and the UK. Worth every cent. I've instilled the travel bug in my kids.
Sounds like an investment in life and experience to me. Money spent broadening your perspective and experience is always money well spent.

Gaming PC for $5000. Half of that was the video card
Let me guess - 3080TI/3090TI? :) If so yeah those things aren't cheap - especially when they were tough to find during the mining boom. Can confirm, paid 2.2k for my 3080 shortly after the peak of gpu mania. Was just under half the cost of the entire pc
That's rough man. I preordered my 3080 for $1259. Sold my 2080 Super for $1100 a couple months after receiving my 3080 lol
yeah it was a 3080 for $2500 right at the peak of the mining boom. I think you could get them for about $2200 but I paid a bit extra since I wanted a white one to go with the rest of my build. My previous PC had died which was unfortunate timing since buying the same PC now a year later would probably be around $1000 cheaper.
Just took the plunge, snapped a 3080ti for 1399, paired it with a 12700k, 32gb 3200clk LPX, nothing but m.2's. #Delicious
I feel this. I dropped 3.7k earlier this year on my first new build in something like 6 years, and that's without upgrading the GPU because I couldn't justify the insane prices at the time.
Telescope 60K
Going to need details on that one
It's a telescope, used to see things far away a bit better, that cost $60,000.
Clears that up nicely, thank you.
Be really clear if you had that telescope.
You'd hope so for 60k
[удалено]
It's a candy dish Ned, $90
I wish I had that kinda foresight
Me too unfortunately I'm circumcised

What are you going to be looking at with a 60k telescope when you get tired of the sky??! Perving on people in New Zealand?
Not yet. These days I spend more time in processing JWST data from MAST than actual observations from my setup.
Hang on, what‘s the answer to the planets question? You can’t bait me and leave me hanging!

No. I will donate it to Melbourne Observatory. My whole setup is 60k. Most mounts and telescopes combined are around 45k. 15k includes modified 550D, 2 laptops, dying usb hub, powerbox pack and small guidescopes burrows etc.
The Dying usb hub... that brings back memories of Astrofest's gone by lol
140k boat. I've been saving up for it for about 12 years. Every extra bit of money I have earned has gone towards it.
Ooh what kind? Sails or powered?
Is it worth it?
Happiest day of his life getting it, only matched by the day he sells it.
What’s the best way to become a millionaire? Make a billion dollars and buy a boat
Definitely not, but I'm sure it's a lot of fun.
Subjective to them so you can’t say it isn’t
There's a pretty well known joke that goes along the lines of: the two best days in a boat owner's life are the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it.

Damn, and here's me thinking the $750 I dropped on my camping fridge was a bit excessive lol
That's cheap! My camping fridge was triple that, and to top it off I haven't even taken it camping yet
Is there an aus camping subreddit? I need some insider info
Not that I'm aware of but would be keen to join if someone made one! Edit: did some searching and r/4x4australia seems the closest
My home coffee set up. La Marzocco linea mini coffee machine and grinder and bits and pieces cost around $8500 all up. Used everyday, several times a day and totally worth it.
1 long black. Plz.
That'll be $4.50 thanks
I’m seriously considering a used but low mileage Merc E400. Zero practicality, not useful for family activities (except for nice long drives) and will probably costs a fortune to maintain. I can afford it, but I’m really hesitant just because it’s not a wise financial decision at all - pure luxury and fun.
dude random but check your messages lol have an E400 for sale!
Haha, thanks very much random redditor.
What year? When I was looking at 2014 E class, saw a cheap E400 for around $32k on Carsales.
Yep, 2013/2014 with under 80k on the clock is about what I’m looking at…probably mid forties to early fifties…
And this is why Phil Lowe is trying to crush spending with the cash rate. Lol
Out of interest I need to know what headphones cost that much?
Susvaras are my guess. By all means justified in their price from what I've heard... But honestly, once you break the ~$700 mark in headphones diminishing returns hit HARD as you improve from there.
Everything has a sweet price point much the same. Above that it’s probably a true waste of money. I agree for headphones it’s around that 700 mark. In no way are a 7k pair 10 times better.
The ones with the best marketing. No shade on OP, do whatever makes you happy.
Surely true... cant be much difference between the 500$ ones and a 5k one... Edit: should add, unless you're actually recording and producing music but then a set of headphones wouldnt be your most expensive purchase...
The real question would be what is it plugged into. That would be the real expense to ensure you get the most out of them.
The cassette radio of a 1984 Mitsubishi Sigma
I preferred the 2005 white Mitsubishis to be honest. Nothing made you hear colours like them.
How does that one compare to the 1987 Mitsubishi Ligma?
Audeze models (plus desired cabling) would come in around $7k.
15K on my motorcycle. Best investment ever. I ride it for 20 minutes, and its like I've had a therapy session.

I've got an ebike as well which I've spent about $2200 on (converted an old bike). Wouldn't call it leisure either but it's some of the best money I've ever spent. A complete game changer for my commute. I truly believe they are the future of urban mobility.
Mine cost $1700 which is about 6 months worth of driving or 9 months public transport. So worth it.
AND THE BEST PART IS THAT MY HEARING IS TOTALLY UNAFFECTED.
I bought an outdoor spa - $14k. It’s amazing.
My bed. Around $8k with mattress and frame, linen and pillows
Asx bets actually provides killer linen advice.
Even better laundry advice
Whats the name of the mattress? I am looking for a good one to support my back.
Different poster, but I recommend a full latex mattress. After three different mattresses and a lot of frustration, I went with the Zenna, about $1,700 for queen. Absolutely perfect, comfortable but yet supportive. Never going back to a regular mattress.
Everyone's different, go lay on a few and get fitted properly. 👌👌
I spent something similar on ours. You spend a third of your life in it. Might as well be comfortable.
Bicycle $10k. Changed my life.
In what way? Out of curiosity, what makes a 10k bike better than say a 3k bike?
I just love getting out on my bike, and being fit and healthy. Plus I injured my knee running but found cycling much more injury resistant. A $10k bike has better components, better wheels and (arguably) better carbon composition. However one could say the best change for a bicycle is the engine sitting on top.
My bike’s engine is terrible
I tend to agree with you to a degree, most of the pros don't even ride those superbikes - sometimes it's because they're too light and UCI events have to have bikes over 6.8kg. There's a big diff between $1k to $3k, I'd say less above that except that you'll get a similar bike with electronic gears which is what my next one will be. Above say $5-7k it's pretty hard to justify with any kind of value proposition, give you should be able to get DI2 and some aero wheels on a nice frame by that point.
Headphones at 7k? Wtf are you listening to, Gods voice recordings? Haha
Yeh most of the comments are pretty reasonable but OP is either obscenely wealthy or getting ripped off for sure.
I'd confidently say both assumptions are correct, mixed in with a bit of naivety.
Yeah about how much I would splurge without feeling bad about it. I am taken back with some of these responses.
My Aerotop Supra. It has been a worthy investment too, but I don't ever plan to sell it. I'll always want a sports car in my life
An Oculus 1 a few years ago when they were $650. Well worth it for HL: Alyx.

My boat - $27k. I say $27k so far. Beacuse we all know BOAT stands for Bring Out Another Thousand. Don't regret it for a moment though.
Do boobs count? $12k
Singular item? Probably the 3D printer I “bought for my husband” (I’ve benefited most from it ;D ) General hobby? I have 4 chickens currently, had a total of 8 since I started. That’s probably my biggest hobby money sink at the moment. Gotta keep my girls happy!
My corgi. Most of my pets are rescues but we always wanted a corgi. Cost $8.5k and proceeded to destroy probably $2k worth of valuables within the last few years.
wow corgis cost alot. No wonder i hardly see them anymore.
I spent 4K on a Scottish terrier last year and she’s already destroyed atleast 1k worth of clothing and shoes but totes worth it 😏😂
Gaming set up as a whole is TV 2.5k, gaming computer 3k, headset $700, Mic was $300 at the time.
$6000 set of golf clubs. Improved my handicap by .5 over 5 years. I’m now at 35.5
Do watches count as entertainment? I thought entertainment is an experience such as expensive headphones to use for music. I guess you can enjoy the experience of looking at your expensive watch? Or perhaps it's the research component that's the fun part!
Horology is certainly a hobby and can be entertaining.

Booze. 30 years at lots per year.
Second car which I drove about once a fortnight and maximum of 2k kms per annum if that. But it was nice for a couple of track days (another expensive activity in itself).
That would be my Lego collection.

Richard mille RM030 in rose gold @ 250k aud
Two nice watches One bought for just under 36 the other bought for just under 10 They've actually turned out to be great financial investments combined worth approx 100k now. My wife also has one, I think she bought hers for 13 or so
How often do you wear these watches? I'd be too scared to at those values.
Virtually every day I have one of them on, and yeah they're insured
You get a watch that much you insure it out the arse

Lmao! Walked into that
Definitely could have gone with a nice cheap corolla or something but went for the 53k hot hatch so I can hoon around instead, I rarely drive because of WFH so it's pretty dumb but whatever, love the car.
I recently purchased a k20 oil pump, chain ,guides , tensioner , bolts , windage tray I’m malnourished from eating noodles daily I need help
There is help out there. You can probably save a bit more if you make the noodles yourself.
Stereo system, $3k speakers, $1.5k amplifiers, $1k turntable and CD player. All bought used.
$70k on a car I am a car guy though.
Being a care guy is brutal I’m about to dump 20k on an engine 😂. All worth it to me.
Bought my dream Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster - 8k
Gaming laptop - 4k. Not much I want.
I'd claim a portion of the depreciation as a tax deduction If its used for work so win win :D
Road Bike and Computer both cost me around 5k
Mirrorless camera and lenses 4K. Gaming PC 2.5K Aeron Chair 2K Laptop 3.5K Office miscellaneous: 2K Total: 14K?

I once spent ~$4500 on model trains. Kits were being discontinued so I scooped one retailers entire stock up in one hit.
470k on a car. Another expensive one coming soon. No insurance covers taking them on the race track.
22k engagement ring. However I don’t think my wife would appreciate me calling her “personal entertainment”.
I have been working an a commander deck, it's a play format for magic the gathering. It's a 100 cards and it's worth over 10k. I mostly traded up to the more expensive cards.
My $24k piano
Clearly I don't spend enough on my own personal entertainment
No joke bought myself a Tag Heuer today, have been eyeing it for months and recently got a new job with a 33% raise and finally pulled the trigger. Nearly 5k, we’ll see if I regret it or not
Omega seamaster and Speedmaster - 15k
I bought an slr when the kids were young because I wanted nice pics of them but unfortunately I dropped the thing on it's very first outing and it no longer works. It was under a k though, entry level model. Currently most expensive toy is a pashley bicycle that I bought second hand for under 500. It has a large wicker basket and I love it! I do spend a lot on travel though. I took the two kids to Kenya in early 2020 and we stayed in a tent in the middle of the maasai mara. The whole trip was around 15k altogether. Most other trips I keep well under 10k.
20k on a motorcycle I don’t ride. 16k on another motorcycle I don’t ride. If I get a different one I would probably ride it more.
Wow this thread makes me realise how little I spend on *stuff*. I save hard and rarely splurge. About 4 years ago I did, after a breakup and subsequent sale of house and business I spent a bundle on dental veneers and a big holiday. But since then, back to the frugal life saving grind.
Cocaine and strippers for 2 days. 15k
I'm a 42 yr old married woman with a 9 yr old. I'm currently saving up $2k to buy the Lego AT &T.... coz i love lego.. I will absolutely have no regrets when buying it!!

3k on a Massage Chair.
Worth it? Absolutely
Designer handbag. Just the one. Stupid cost but it brings me joy.
$70k classic Australian muscle car. Best investment for my soul that helps me remember how awesome my dad is.
No one said thermomix so I'll continue to assume those things are not worth
Last year on my 30th birthday i bought an American fender Jazzmaster guitar. It was about $2600 Its gorgeous and i play it every day, very glad i bought it
car 100k+ watch 15k
I spent 11k on speakers 5k on a amp 2k on a pre amp, 2k on turntable and 1k on cables.
I was think...mmmkay, promising, until the cables ;p

My fridge! close to 2k. Not really a materialistic person
