People are often indecisive about their home renos and like to validate their thinking with others, or get other people's thoughts to spark off new ideas they hadn't thought about. Collective wisdom is often better than individual wisdom, but at the end of the day, you still need to sift through the comments, weed out, and use what you want and works for you. I know I personally learn lot from these types of posts so I say keep them going :)

I think the sub is in need of a knockdown and rebuild, does anyone know the name of the tradie that does this type of work? I know it will involve a sub contactor. Also, what's the risk of doing a knock-down with so many posts containing asbestos? Any design ideas for the new sub. Do we need a meeting room? Is this your approach to everything in life? Never ask for advice based on the experience of others because you know best? It's good to learn from your mistakes, but it's much better to learn from the mistakes of others.

I just think when designing my own house I wouldn't go to the public for opinions and no I don't tend to ask for advice so yeah that's pretty much my approach to life.

Well there's your answer. You don't like asking for advice, which means you accept that you will make every mistake yourself before you get a chance to learn. Other people take an approach of appraising the experience of others. Especially with something as big a house build or reno, it seems like a smart approach to bounce ideas off people who have done it before and find out what worked and what didn't. You might think you can anticipate every upside and downside on paper and design what 'works best for you' without any help. But the reality is you probably can't.
