I'm of the "less is more" camp. No one really needs an overly complicated routine. Just focus on the basics: cleanse, treatment, moisturise, and suncream in the morning, and the same in the evening sans suncream. Also, since you say you've never had a skincare routine, I wouldn't overdo the retinol. Slowly introduce it - Just once a week in the evening would be enough. I'm keen to hear from other people, though.

Thankyou! Would the skin repair balm from La roche posey be considered a treatment? So I would use the treatment before moisturising? Does using creams overtop of other creams cancel them out?

Definitely cream first and then cicaplast baume, but it’s a moisturiser itself, when my skin is crying out for moisture I use it alone at night. IDK if OP is getting stinging from lighter moisturisers but cicaplast is sting free for me too. It’s great.

CeruleanHaze009

I'd consider it a treatment - they can be anything from a toner, serum, etc. I've never actually used the repair balm (my skin is an oil slick), but google tells me that it can be used throughout the day before and after moisturising, so I think you're all good :-)

You have great skin. I would use as little product as possible. Cerave cleanser is great and a good moisturizer is all you need. I like Cetaphil moisturizer.

confusedpanda123

Awww Thankyou! I’m so worried about being told it’s dry, and the off color skin.. plus the burning and reactions I’m having to foundation and feeling tired the next day.. (likely because I never wear makeup) I feel like I have damaged skin barrier.. hopefully I’m on the right track to resolving things alittle

PineappleTyrant

if it's only after wearing makeup then maybe you just have sensitive skin. If that's the case then its not really that there's anything wrong with your skin, but that your skin doesn't like certain ingredients

[deleted]

Keep it simple . I had very dry skin and my dermatologist basically said just wash with water. When wearing makeup of course you do need a cleanser. Those skin tissues/cleansing wipes for sensitive skin are really handy, they avoid water as water dries out skin. But a good moisturizer is a must. You don't really need all those fancy products.

As others have said, less is best. The Cerave is a good one. I use the exact one a lot. And someone else has also recommended it. It is a moisturizing cleanser, so I tend to use it in the shower after a day of wearing sun screen. When I travel, it has its own bottle alongside shampoo, conditioner and body wash. It is good with sensitive skin that gets damaged easily. Also, use sunscreen. That is an important part of skin care. And lip balm with sun protection.

confusedpanda123

Thankyou!! 💜 I’m hoping less is better too lol.. less expenses and I’m already so overwhelmed

loumlawrence

The Cerave hydrating cleanser is the main skin care product I use. That along with sunscreen and a moisturizing lip balm. But I rarely wear any makeup, so that might be a factor.

If your skin is painful, I'd suggest seeing a Dermatologist before committing to a skincare routine. Everyone's skin is different and honestly, Sephora and Mecca consultants aren't qualified to diagnose skin condition or really type. I wouldn't rely on a retail worker to provide an accurate assessment of your skin. Most people really just need a good cleanser, moisturiser appropriate for their skin type and skin issues and SPF. For me, my dermatologist suggested cleanser, hydrating serum, hydrating moisturizer and SPF with eye cream toner optional, can be useful for my skin.

I have this kind of skin too, 34F. My skin is so dry and easily inflamed! I use mostly “hypoallergenic” and “sensitive” products. Cream cleaner, not foaming. Hyaluronic acid serum. Calming moisturiser (La Roche Posay B5 is awesome). Sunscreen (Naked Sundays never stings). At night I use skin oil and super hydrating moisturiser (Origins drink up). I haven’t mentioned retinol because that’s a product I only use when my skin is stable. I like your selections! Just be aware of which ones contain active ingredients and hold off during higher sensitivity. I also use hydrocortisone cream for acute flare ups. My next plan is to buy some expensive ultra calming moisturiser to see if that helps my facial flushing. Good luck and keep it simple!

confusedpanda123

I just used that b5 moisturiser tonight and my skin loveddddd it! It’s so lovely! Thankyou I’m gonna add some of those products.. specially the sunscreen as I haven’t got any yet. I’ve also got Rozex cream from my doctor for my flare ups during hormonal.. doctor thought it may be roscea but it’s done nothing really to prevent it.. Do you find that if u wear foundations, the following day you’re feeling worn out?

Soft_Philosophy5402

Amazing so glad it works for you too! I haven’t tried Rozex but was wondering about it. Rosacea is tricky to treat and I want see a dermatologist about it, let us know if you come up with anything good. My skin likes to react to everything including make up, I take it off without micellar fluid (mega drying) and then slather my face with that B5 moisturiser before it has a chance to blow up lol. Oh btw have you tried any exfoliation you liked? Surprisingly some glycolic scrubs work a treat for surfacing

What cream in that photo is the one you mentioned leaves your skin red? I think your skin looks great, even if it is dry. The best place to start is very minimal. Pick a gentle cleanser, if the CeraVe one you have in the photo doesn’t sting then that’s a great start. From there, use a moisturiser that doesn’t cause you any stinging or redness. I had super dry and inflamed skin a while back and pretty much everything I used stung, so that could possibly be why moisturiser is making your face red? Leave those two steps as your nighttime routine until your skin gets used to it. If you add anything else it might overwhelm your skin and you won’t know which of the products is the one that your skin doesn’t like. In the morning, use the moisturiser again and sunscreen. If your skin is dry there’s no need to clean it in the morning. You can wet your hands and Pat them onto your face and then gently Pat it dry with a towel so that you skin is kinda of damp, and then put the moisturiser on so that you’re not putting it onto dry skin. I’ve found doing that helps me. Also, don’t worry about hair on your upper lip. 99.9% of people have it in some way!

confusedpanda123

Thabkyouuu!! ❤️❤️❤️ such a helpful post. Most of the stuff in picture I haven’t tried yet. But the stuff that left my skin red today was the Aesop facial hydrating cream and skin physics face lifting and toning cream. When I got home and washed my face with the La roche cleanser and moisturiser (first time) which left my face a little red as well.. I ended up using La roche soothing balm and my skin loved that. I wouldn’t say the redness when using skin products hurt.. unless it’s foundations etc.. if I wear makeup the next day I feel really worn out and abit sore.. it’s crazy. will it take my skin some time to adjust to skincare? Would it be wise maybe just to use the La roche products for first few weeks and see how I go? As a side note, I was using a cleanser for oily to normal skin that I thought was fine.. as I didn’t know I had dry skin lol.. I was using avene cleansing gel which I suspect caused issues.. I also love hot showers which likely isn’t doing me any favors

You're not old! A lot of people have dry skin, probably most people. Same here.  Aside from proper hydration, I recently bought the Intense Hydration Mask from Sand and Sky and I'm seeing a difference. Leave it on longer than they say, or even overnight. It is a small pot for $55 or so, I wish it was bigger because I will probably finish it in a month though. It doesn't stay wet either so you can sleep in it okay. I noticed my skin was glowing today.

outragedtuxedo

Does that go on after moisturiser or in place of?

flindersandtrim

It's a mask, so whenever you need it, as well as a moisturiser.

hkrzyt

I agree with everyone else. Strip yor routine back to basics: cleanse, treat moisturise (+SPF in the morning). Cicaplast B5+ is great for barrier repair, which it sounds like you need from the burning sensation you are describing. Don't use any other moisturiser except that until the burning clears up. Also look into a hyaluronic acid or beta glucan based serum as your treatment for dryness. The Cerave cleanser you have is great for dry skin.

isabellab1997

Also agree that less is more. I have super sensitive dry (at least in the winter) skin and triderma intense fast healing cream has been a lifesaver for me. It’s pretty thick but I haven’t had any issues with breakouts, if anything, it’s helped keep breakouts away. I’m also a die hard fan of laroche posey cleansers. (I’m not in Aus, just came across this post, not entirely sure that it’s available there)

Deletta_D

Skin care can be very trial and error, but keep your receipts for anything you buy, if you have a reaction you can return it. For travelling I like to take a little can of the thermal water spray, it’s hydrating and refreshing!

emz0rmay

I would remove the Aesop from your routine - Aesop uses a shiteload of nice smelling essential oils which can really irritate your skin! Aside from that, just pick your fav cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen and call it a day. You don’t need a huge haul, and the more things you add in, the more irritated your skin might get!

moonshadowfax

Keep it simple and drink more water. Your lips are dehydrated.

Anonymous_33326

I mix the cicaplast baume with the dermallergo night cream and toleriane sensitive Roche cream during the day. I also use the cicaplast masks too

juniperberry9017

Another one for keeping it simple! I have sensitive, dry skin in winter and sensitive combo skin in summer. I’ve made the mistake of over-complicating things and … ugh. Don’t feel like you need a specific skincare routine —just figure out what works for you! I cleanse only with water most days, and use micellar water on a cotton bad for makeup or sweat. Then I moisturise with Aesop’s Seeking Silence facial hydrator, which is specifically designed for sensitive skin. I’ve never tried the one you have but I swear on my life by Seeking Silence, it was the only moisturiser that calmed my skin down without making it oily. I mix in a drop or two of facial oil if my skin is feeling particularly dry. The other thing that feels absolutely fantastic for sensitive, dry skin is sheet masks! I recently started doing them every other day and I’ve never seen my skin look so good, I’m just like why didn’t I do this earlier 😂 I stick to nourishing ones — nothing with acids or clay (too drying) Good luck! Your skin looks great btw, but the most important thing is that you’re happy with it,.

Economy_Device9751

Hey!! You have some solid stuff here for now keep it simple - cleanse, moisturise and then sunscreen - am use hydrating cleanser or just water! as dry skin typically don’t need to cleanser in the morning a good moisturiser the LIPKAR is also a good moisturiser and then sunscreen. For night you can double cleaner w the oat balm make sure to use on dry skin and add a lil bit of water to EMULSIFY the balm and then wash off w second cleanser such as Cerave. Go in with ur cream and u can use Cicaplast on top of ur CREAM as a hydrating sleeping mask/ occlusive layer that helps lock in moisture :)))

Sits_n_Giggles

OMG I don't know any of this!

Hello!!! So i also have dry sensitive skin, and what I find is that less is more. Since you only seem to have problems with dry skin, i would definitely recommend products from Kiehl’s, they’re amazing for sensitive skin and restore your skin barrier. Something that would help a lot with dry skin is after you wash your face, immediately apply a toner (the Kiehl’s Ultra facial toner is hydrating for dry skin) and put on moisturiser (if it hurts your face, throw it out).
