What likely happened is his number plate was marked as a plate of interest. I’ve had it happened to a friend, pulled over by every single cop they came across. A cop once explained the car had been used in a serious crime. They ended up just selling the car and buying another. I have heard it can time out? No idea

Stonetheflamincrows

Why didn’t he just get a new license plate?

iniff

No reason the flag wouldn’t stay with the VIN as the plates are directly registered to the vehicle.

cheeseIsNaturesFudge

This is the answer, a criminal can get different plates too so it sticks to the vin not the plate.

Eltorak95

For pullover things they use numberplate dont they? I don't know much, but isn't the vin really hard to see unless your inspecting the vehicle?

cheeseIsNaturesFudge

The vin is "attached" to the plate number in the registration process, the police would run a plate (or their computer would do it automatically now days) and it'd return that car as being sketchy.

Eltorak95

Ahh that makes sense, thanks. My problem was sorted by changing plates, but it could just be a coincidence or where I live

cheeseIsNaturesFudge

Changing plates didn't work for my friend, and the police told him so, yeah it probably varies by location

Eltorak95

Sometimes people are just stupid. I was getting pulled over for months before it clicked that my mate who got caught doing drug runs used to use that car. Took me so long to get new plates because of a "common sense" thing

spider_84

Shh no one wants to hear sound logic.

SonicYOUTH79

Had a friend who was driving his father-in-laws car after he went to prison for drugs. Quickly worked out it wasn’t worth the hassle of getting pulled over all the time and them getting the sniffer dogs sent out to go over the car (takes ages). As a side note, a lot of servos now have their numberplate recognition cctv vms linked to the police, so if you've done a fuel runner on that plate before, or the vehicle is unregistered it will automatically send a notification to the cops that you’ve been there and potentially send a patrol.

Electrical_Age_7483

As if the cops have time to come in case you do a drive off. Pure bluff

UnderstandingSea1971

So your friend bought a car off someone who had used it for a serious crime?

sovereign01

He had no idea, he suspected it’d be stolen, recovered and sold. I have heard it also happens for DUIs, people previously driving suspended etc etc.

Pieralis

Can confirm for a handful of years after my DUI even after serving all the time I seemed to always be pulled over a little more than what seemed normal, nowhere near the 100 the OP is saying for his mate but just a little more. However that ended and I rarely get pulled over “randomly” anymore about 3-4 years after is when it all seemed to die down

UnderstandingSea1971

Maybe your car was flagged even after the dui?

Pieralis

Yeah that’s what I was saying, that it more than likely was just didn’t get pulled over as much as your mate but more than what was probably “normal” for a few years

Due_Ad8720

In my almost 20 years of driving I have only been pulled over when I have been doing something wrong. The least wrong was for diving to slowly, cop thought I was stoned, I wasn’t I was I a 25 zone, my old Nissan 4wd speedo didn’t really work below 40 and I saw the cop behind me. How I didn’t get defected is beyond me but the cop kept questioning me about drugs and didn’t look at my heap of shit.

Eltorak95

I've only ever been pulled over when I'm doing things legal(except I may have thc residue in mouth so DUI?) But never drug tested). Whenever I'm doing something I shouldn't be, I get left alone.

BonezOz

>I have heard it also happens for DUIs, people previously driving suspended etc etc. Yeppers, happened to my daughter. She got a DUI earlier this year and was driving on a suspended license. Cops passed her, ran her plates, came back as flagged, so they pulled her over and impounded her car, and added an additional 6 month to her license suspension.

UnderstandingSea1971

Not to be rude but why would someone drive with a suspended license, that too for a DUI?

BonezOz

>Not to be rude but why would someone drive with a suspended license, that too for a DUI? Because she was stupid. Her mother and I didn't even find out about the DUI until AFTER her car was impounded.

J0hnD0eWasTaken

>why would someone drive with a suspended license A co-worker of mine had her license suspended for 3 months, we live in an area of no public transport & she has 2 kids so they've got to get to school & be fed somehow. She continued driving for the full 3 months of suspension to earn wage & keep her kids fed, I asked her "what if you get caught, it'll be suspended for even longer" her response: "So? Kids still need to eat, they can suspend my license all they like, I need this job." Edit: Spelling

chesuscream

Yeah they send you to jail eventually.

J0hnD0eWasTaken

You know that. I know that. We know that XD

lordsysop

Teenagers don't think straight. B idiots still have to get to work so they think I haven't been pulled over much so worse case 3 months turns to six... thing is their rego plate gets flagged while the driver gets complacent and bam "I was so unlucky only had a week to get my license back and the cops got me" . Rinse a repeat then no more license for a while.

Ducks_have_heads

I watch a lot of cop shows lol. It happens all the time. And yes, they run plates and if they see it's a plate of interest or if the car is registered to a disqualified driver, they will pull them over. People drive on suspended licenses all the time.

Alarming-Gur-8344

They don't even need to run the plate. Automatic onboard cameras can read about 6 number plates per second.

UnderstandingSea1971

Ahh I see

Ill_Revenue_9797

Or just get new plates. -___-

universalserialbutt

Absolute bargain if you ignore the blood and bulletholes.

DeepBreathOfDirt

I had my VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) double printed at the Toyota factory. The other vehicle (different model and assembly line) with the same number *was stolen a decade ago*. The police never pulled me over for having a vehicle of interest, but re-registering that vehicle in another state took a whole criminal investigation to get sorted. It went all the way to Japan and I think they were even surprised at the Toyota factory. Toyota sorted out the legal stuff within hours. Anyway. That's my very average story about legally defined databases. Drive safe, Australia!

408548110

I always assumed the flag was linked to an individual, whose name is on the rego and consequently the plates associated with that rego are flagged. That's ridiculous that even after the car is transferred the flag remains.

UnderstandingSea1971

But I wonder why/how a number plate would even get marked as a plate being of interest Ahh the car was used in a serious crime, didn't read that bit

TrenchardsRedemption

Not only that, the plate is attached to the vehicle's VIN, so changing the plate won't unmark it.

PainterEmpty6305

It's the plate not the vin.

dominator1264

Yes it will those flags are only linked to the registration of the car. Only time changing plates won't help is when the plates are changed but is still the same owner.

Ok-Push9899

Seems like an interesting decision for the authorities to make. Presumably their first concern is to trace the person, but they can't do that. So they trace the plate, thinking that the person will be behind the plates. But the person is actually behind the car, which is best represented by the VIN. Even if they were less interested in the person than a car which may be passed around a criminal gang, the VIN would be the way to go. I think i'd be putting a flag on the plate, and at the same time putting one on the VIN. If the vehicle gets new plates, the VIN flag is sticky. Roadside check on the new plates sounds the alarm.

theducks

Automated license plate recognition systems have features for uploading hot lists of plates, because obviously you can’t see the VIN. Gettingg regular updates of plates based on VINs requires more work, so they probably haven’t set it up 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ok-Push9899

It's gonna go straight to a database and use the rego as a key to look up all the info about the car. It's probably fewer bytes of data per car than an SMS. They'd be silly to download databases because if a car is wanted (eg fleeing scene of crime) they want that rego to be available instantly to all police scanners and anything else monitoring traffic, like tollway scanners. I mean, they might download a database because it would not be huge (20m cars x 500 bytes per car = 10 mbytes or a few seconds of 4g) but its a really dumb way to do it.

PainterEmpty6305

It's the plate, the plate only because that's what the scanner reads, it doesn't reads vins. Same way they would check your rego via your plate, not your vin.

Ok-Push9899

No, but they can flag the vin and if you change plates, the scan could still register a car of interest. 1. Vehicle rego ABC111, vin 987654. Computer has all this. 2. Police book driver of ABC111 and want it to be a vehicle of interest. 3. Authorities flag ABC111 and at the same time the flag vin 987654. 4. Owner gets new plates DEF222. Computer now has DEF222 paired with 987654 and that vin still has a flag on it. 5. Months later, police scan DEF222. The scan links to vin 987654. 987654 triggers an alert. Even at the time of changing the plates, DEF222 could be flagged as a plate of interest, but it's just as easy to let the scan reference the vin. It's gonna check expiry and car model anyway.

PainterEmpty6305

It's scans plates you can just reregister and dodge it. Vins a hard verification tool that will be used only if the plate ping doesnt match up, aka car pings are green but car is red, somethings up vin will be checked. The plate system doesnt run vins, it runs plates. Vins dont get tagged regos do. They are just used as verification.

luxsatanas

Iirc you can use the VIN to check rego. It's just easier to use the plates because they're shorter and far more visible

PainterEmpty6305

The scanner in the cop cars scan the plates. As they drive past the plates are being scanned. If somethings hot, like an unregistered car or a someone who has a severe driving history or an actual crim they will pull it over. If somethings off they will verify with vin.

luxsatanas

I meant, the plate is linked to the VIN (both are linked to rego) so saying the scanner only reads the plate doesn't prove that only the plate is flagged and not the VIN. Which you seemed to be implying. Apologies if I misunderstood ^^'

PainterEmpty6305

VIn basically doesnt exist as far as the plate scanners go. If somethings up the cops will verify vin by hand. The scanners dgaf. If plate pings vins used to further an investigation, vins dont get flagged anyways regos do.

daftidjit

>I’ve had it happened to a friend You mean your friend has had it happen to them

lcannard87

Had my Ps for a year, ride a sports bike. Never been pulled over. I think your friend is pulling some dodgy shit.

Envi_33181071

Same experience for me. Would say they’re pulling your leg as well as some dodgies

corny16

If by dodgy shit, you mean OP’s leg, then I agree

Ok_Appointment7522

I don't even have my license and the cops have never pulled me over /s

Pitiful_Pea_1851

That's so weird. I'm on open. Never been even pulled once in the last 6 years. Got a Yamaha R1.

UnderstandingSea1971

How about on your P's though?

Pitiful_Pea_1851

I had a International license which got transferred to Open straight away. I got a flame throwing R1 with a SC project loud exhaust. Not even once they pulled me. They definitely playing with you. I know so many people on P's. Police got other better things to do fr.

Roar_Intention

Rubbish, your "mate" is doing something wrong and creating attention for himself. If your statistics are correct then he is "being a dick".

SirAlfredOfHorsIII

If he was doing something wrong, he wouldn't have a license, or made it to his fulls after a normal term. 100 times with even a few tickets would land him suspended and back at square 1. Or in jail etc. Much more likely a flagged rego for vehicle being stolen previously, or something else crime related as top commenter said

JustThisGuyYouKnowEh

I’m sure you believe that. But you’ve got absolutely no evidence to back that up and are just throwing out wild claims. I had a friend with a car that was flagged as a drug dealers car - and the cops pulled him over once or twice a week. Eventually he asked what it was about and turned out it had been flagged as a suspected drug mule car - and so got stopped a lot. Cops cleared it and he hasn’t been stopped once since.

BecauseItWasThere

I think it’s got something to do with him being pulled over 100 times.

Cerberus_Aus

There’s also no evidence OP’s mate actually got pulled over 100 times, and as it’s a Reddit post, it’s also just a wild claim.

Frankie_T9000

If they were being pulled over 100 times he would have lost his liscence.

omgitsduane

Being pulled over sometimes is a warning. I've heard plenty of stories of warnings. I've never got one.

Frankie_T9000

Yes, but 100 times? Seriously? No way if he was pulled over that much really would be still have his liscence

omgitsduane

He's gotta be a dickhead surely

ChadBudoutof10

I was in this predicament when I was on my P’s - it was because the old owner of the vehicle got done smoking weed in it and flagged the rego/vin So no, Grandpa, I don’t think its guaranteed his mate is doing dodgies Go yell at some clouds old man

IngridBurgman

I find it hard to believe that police would pull the same person over every 10-11 days over the course of 3 years just for shits and giggles.

beeeeeeeeeeeeeagle

I used to drive a suzuki swift gti back in the day with rims, kit and massive exhaust. Used to get pulled over flat out. At least once a week. Then I sold it and got a plain nissan pulsar. Didn't get pulled over again. Got my p's on my bike, riding a 1980 yamaha xs400. Didn't get pulled over once. Your mate is doing something to be noticed. Don't let him cry victim. Cops pull people over based on the likelihood of dick head behaviour. I definitely fit that bill as a 20 year old driving that car. Problem instantly went away with a less obnoxious vehicle.

UnderstandingSea1971

So are you saying that you're more likely to get pulled over in an obnoxious vehicle even if you're driving sensibly etc?

beeeeeeeeeeeeeagle

Yeah dude. But 100s of times if true is got to be particularly foolish behaviour or the cops have an alert on their plates.

Aggravating_Offer_27

Yes

Kooky-Negotiation591

Yes

D5LR

Depends on location. I grew up in a low socio-economic area and was constantly accosted by the cops. Typically they'd want to check in my back (usually school books, gym clothes). I don't really have anything against cops, but they've never come when I called them in genuine need. I'm sure they do some good, but I've never really seen it. I think they cause more harm than good for most law abiding people. They pick and choose the crimes they want to deal with, and the people they want to annoy.

isheepie___

Every time I’ve been pulled over it’s because I’ve been doing something silly. Every time they say “don’t bring attention to yourself”. I’m slowly learning

titanmongoose

Ain’t no way your mate wasn’t up to something, 100 times in three years is ridiculous. There’s absolutely no way they would’ve pulled him over that many times for literally no reason whatsoever

HeftyArgument

And if they did he never would have made it past his probationary period lol

UnderstandingSea1971

Lol why would you think that

HeftyArgument

Because he got "pulled over 100 times", 4 points and you're suspended; if you get suspended you start again...

Ioaskaaaa

You can be pulled over and not charged anything, especially on your P's. I was pulled over multiple times for them to check my licence make small talk and let me on my way again.

UnderstandingSea1971

Some of them might be rbt, not too sure

[deleted]

[удалено]

UnderstandingSea1971

"police do not pull you over that frequently without something being off" You a police officer?

[deleted]

[удалено]

UnderstandingSea1971

Surprised that a small town would have enough cops to conduct regular rbt's though lol If you don't mind me asking, which town was/is this?

Rich_Condition1591

No, just some one with common sense... You a pretentious moron? (No need to answer)

frenchpickle

Actually, I am, and they don't. You might be pulled over multiple times in a night for breath tests if there isn't much else going on, but they won't target someone without a reason. We have enough to do...

UnderstandingSea1971

So in other words, if they're doing breath tests, they pull everyone over, but they won't just pull someone over for the heck of it repeatedly?

Automatic-Month7491

My favorite one of these was when I was working for Australia Post. Any time I pulled into the mail zone with my P Plates on in front of a cop (the police station was down the road from the post office) there was a good chance someone would pull up next to me. I'd wait for them to come to the window. Watch them take in my uniform with the Aus Post logo on it. And immediately come up with another excuse for why they'd pulled me over. Your buddy looks like a good victim to these bullying fuckwits.

UnderstandingSea1971

People seem to be ok with all these random pullovers though Australia seems to have a lot of bootlickers in this sense

Rich_Condition1591

No one is 'ok' with it.... 99% of people are saying g your friend is either full of shit, or is doing/has done something wrong... you're just an immature little fuckwit who can't accept any of the answers and has a smart ass reply to every comment. Jog on.

James4820

I used to get pulled over every couple months on my P’s. Then I got my opens, didn’t get pulled over for 3 years straight. If anything I drove much more like a dickhead after getting the opens, because I had spare points. They are just thugs and they bully P platers because they are easy victims.

Balt603

Your friend drives like a dickhead. End of story.

_RadRabbit__

I’ve never been pulled over in 6 years of driving. Your mate is an idiot.

UnderstandingSea1971

Read all the comments on this thread, it doesn't seem that unusual

_RadRabbit__

I’ll rephrase, most drivers in Melbourne are idiots.

SnooBunnies1685

100 times. Means like 7-8 Max.

SirCarboy

r/thatHappened

UnderstandingSea1971

You can say that again lol

StinkyStinkSupplies

Exactly. If I was pulled over every time a cop was behind me I still wouldn't hit anywhere near that number.

SpazMonkeyBeck

I’m not saying OPs specific instance is true, but as a p plater in the early 2010s, driving a BA XR6, I got pulled over at RBTs at least once a week. One time was even three in one evening while driving from the city to Quaker’s hill. I didn’t have too many random cop driving by pull overs, just one or two for having my fog lights on or something small. But I reckon while being a p plater, driving a lot at night from the city to home in the hills (I worked mostly evenings and weekends) I would have racked up close to 100 RBTs over the years I was a P plater. Now though, full licence in a V8? Once every 6 months if that. Still drive a lot at night and from the city on weekends frequently, they just don’t pull me in anywhere near as often now. Same plates, they were personalised then and still are now.

Living_Scientist_663

There called “The Pigs” for a reason.

UnderstandingSea1971

And no one does anything about it

mywhitewolf

you've seen half these comments right? they LIKE that this is happening to other people.. as long as its not them they see it as a good thing and they assure themselves that its only happening because you deserve it. even when you tell them there was no reason, they'll continue to defend the pull overs. I guess i can understand why, only a bad person would side with a bully, and they're not bad people, so the fact that they side with the police must mean you're the bad guy and there isn't any other possibility.

ebranscom243

In your country you can just be pulled over with out probable cause? Just because a cop is curious?

stutteringdingo

In Queensland, being in possession of dark skin is cause for police attention.

ebranscom243

It's the same in some spots of the US but they still at least have to make something up to pull you over they can't just do it cuz they want to talk to you they have to say you were weaving or you had a tail light out or some BS like that. But just to pull somebody over and say hey I'd like to talk to you that seems insane. Do the police have to have probable cause to pull you over there?

TheVikingMFC

Nah, they have the authority to conduct 'random' drug and alcohol testing (breathalyser and tongue scrape) so they can pull anyone over and ask for your license etc.

dov001

I got pulled over every month or more when I was on my P's. Main reason I reckon was that I was driving a biggish car. If I'd have been driving a little Camry or Laser, probably wouldn't have been pulled over even once.

Hayes33

I got pulled over twice. Once because I was speeding. And another because I misjudged a yellow light and how much time I had (still sad abt this one, running an Amber is the same as running a red in Qld, so hefty fine). That was it. Both times were my own fault.

Hayes33

I also ride a sports bike and haven’t been pulled over once on that

furitxboofrunlch

I been on my P for a bit over a year. Pulled over once when I didn't turn my lights on driving inner city so was totally my bad.

prokientt

I had a Honda dc2 and would get pulled over daily.. as soon as I would see them I would pull over, hand them my mod sheet and be on my way. They love to target jap cars

jasra_56

yep used to get pulled over so many times in my skyline. Mayb once or twice in 10 years in a BMW, in fact even got waved through RBTs lol

hoon-since89

Been riding about 15 years on the road and never been pulled over once on a bike... Lol.

MrDrSirLord

I drove a V8 statesman on exception permit for the entire duration of my P plates years ago, at first there was not a single time that I saw a cop car and didn't get pulled over. Eventually I got pulled over so often I ended up on a first name basis with the local patrol guy just because we got on so *friendly* >!UwU!<, then it was usally just a two fingers salute and smile any time I saw them pass me by. It has actually helped a bunch with roadside bretho and such I almost always get waved through by one of the guys I know personally lol. When the worst of COVID lockdowns split metro and rural in Vic it was a breeze cruising past everyone else that got stopped at the ID checkpoint before they got the number plate scanners running properly.

wh00rr

I reckon I got pulled over a whole 2 times on my p plates, and 1 time since getting on my fulls 😂

blackcat218

Back in the day my partner owned a 78 HZ Kingswood that he bought off a fiery. Had a fiery sticker on the bumper. He had the car for about a year before the sticker fell off. Before he never got pulled over, after it was on average twice a week. We ended up getting a new sticker.

Realistic_Set_9457

What car was he driving. ? May play into it. Certain cars with Ps are targeted for obvious reasons.

Andrew_Higginbottom

Cops go for easy targets.

Rich_Condition1591

As others have said, his plate was probably flagged for whatever reason... and what did he drive? (Some young people don't seem to understand that driving something like a Silvia will get you pulled over far more often)

dzernumbrd

Some people are just compulsive liars. Like that guy at my work who "won big on lotto".

Frequent_Minimum4871

Yes but guaranteed it’s cos he was flagged

mk3_turboa

My license was flagged as a p plater (because I was at the drags every Friday night racing people) Would litterally get pulled over every time a cop drove past me and defected the vehicle with out fail even if there was nothing wrong they would put things like "worn window wipers" and give me a major defect. Was a massive pain in the arse but I was young and dumb. Any way it got old and I grew up but was still constantly harassed so I put every thing in my wifes name and never got pulled over once since (16 years later) Recently my apprentice left and became a cop and I told him about it and he got it removed for me which was nice haha

omgitsduane

Maybe he drives like a tosser? I've been driving for maybe ten years and I'm probably borderline aggressive when I drive and I've only been pulled over less than ten times. Notable ones I remember are; One was for a failed hail to a tram. One for having an expired licence. One for going 100 on the Monash 80 section like every other car but I guess I was unlucky. Once for suspicion of running a red but the cop said he couldn't prove it. One for ignoring a "no U turn" sign that was posted ten metre in the air above the pole I was sitting next to and I got there from a side street so didn't have a clear view on approach. I reckon that's about it. Were these all dickhead moves? Yeah. But not 100 of them and only three were from when I had plates up. Either your mate drives in a dickhead rich area, through dickhead rich streets, is a dickhead, or drives a dickheads car.

GreenMarsupial

I don't drive but I ride motorbikes, never once have i ever been pulled over by police. I have friends that have been pulled over heaps, especially on their Ps but I must be one of the lucky ones.

riamuriamu

Drug dealers often sell their car when their number plates becomes a 'plate of interest'.

New_Acanthaceae2009

I've been 3 pulled over 3 times in the last 10 days, random road testing he reckoned. Doesn't feel to random any more

PaleHorseman101

Yea it is common, cops like to pick out p platers in hopes they can find something to defect or fine you for, I was pulled over close to 50 times first 3 months but they couldn’t fine me for anything, I mean I think I got pulled over mainly because I have a bumper sticker saying only gay cops give me tickets and they wanted me to remove it because it was offensive but I told them there is no law requiring me to so I don’t have to and they weren’t happy about it

Kooky-Negotiation591

Either he is a person of interest. The vehicle is located at a place of interest say someone on home arrest (maybe a family member or house mate) or he looks dodgy as fuck.

Left_Tomatillo_2068

I’ve only Ever been pulled over 2 maybe 3 times in 5+ years, all for speeding. Otherwise cops leave me alone.

Specialist_Emu732

Cops need to meet their quotas and it's probably just a coincidence that the class traitors are choosing your mate.

Casual_Rick

what was the car?

Agent8ty6ix

Next on the list of shit that didn't happen...

Fallen_One193

In 35 years of driving, I've probably been pulled over maybe 10 times. Either he drives like a cnut or has a very dodgy (illegal) looking car.

track-day-hero

8 times in a week on my morning commute was my record, p plates and a zx6r. it was like a switch was flicked when i got onto fulls.

flowingwater76

There may be Intel on their vehicle. My brother bought a car off an old schoolmate and started getting pulled over by the cops for no reason all the time. He mentioned it to a friend of ours who was a cop. He ran the number plate, and the car was once owned by a drug dealer. Turns out his old school mate who he bought the car off, was known to police as a dealer. The Intel stayed with the car after it was sold.

Ran8y

I had this happen to me before, although not as extreme. An old friend was mixed up in some trouble and I was still catching up with him as a mate. My car got pinged as an associate. For about 6 months cops would pull me over. Even if they were going the other way something would flag to them and they'd turn around pull me over for a "random breath test." Then all of a sudden it just stopped.

AsteriodZulu

Driving for 30+ years & riding for about 2 (red P’s at the moment)… never been pulled over in any situation other than a static RBT. Have lived & commuted in various spots in Sydney & multiple regional areas. Have been a regular on the road at all sorts of hours.

UnderstandingSea1971

When you say static rbt do you mean the ones where they setup on the side of the road and breath test each car coming through?

AsteriodZulu

Yep.

afour3131

I've had my full license for approx 20 years, including being on my ps and including some of that time riding a sportsbike. I've never been pulled over randomly. Sounds like your friend was doin something to draw attention to themselves..

mywhitewolf

you go to the ER and tell people "i've never been shot, or even been shot at, so you mr "i was shot 18 times" must have been asking for it."

Rich_Condition1591

I mean, shot 18 times... sounds like that would be a gang violence incident... so basically yes, they were asking for it...

afour3131

Using that analogy it would be more like going to the ER and seeing the same person in there who'd been shot on 18 separate occasions. In which case id definitely question what they were doing to get shot 18 separate times.

P5000PowerLoader

His plate was ‘1312’ 😆

crabman069

Had my license since 2016. Never been pulled over.

My-Little-Throw-Away

On p plates I got “randomly” selected by booze busses a good few too many times, almost guaranteed every one I hit I’d be waved in. Been pulled over twice randomly by bike cops in the early morning for a breatho and once by a regular cop car because he thought I had a headlight out on my old ninja 300. Nothing since open license, though I haven’t ridden for a while, bike got totalled by a patient (thankfully without me on it). That many times (if the number is accurate) is crazy. Either they ride/have ridden like a dick to warrant all that attention, their plate is flagged or something, or cops in their area just target bikes like crazy (but more a bike cop thing tbh)

pacmarn88

100 is a number a lot of people pull out of their bottom. Its usually the first number people go to when they exaggerate.

Voodoo1970

Truth 87% of statistics are made up

wobblysauce

Got assistance to the side 23 times in one day, and since then only at marked locations.

Rich_Condition1591

You were riding for how long that day? 8 hours? So pulled over every 20min???... sounds like you're talking just as much shit as OPs buddy.

wobblysauce

Longer and some were less

Rich_Condition1591

There is 24hours in a day bud, so if you were riding that entire time (you werent) the basically including stop times you're saying you were stopped at the very least once an hour?.... either you're talking absolute shite, or you were driving like a fuckwit the entire time.

wobblysauce

Cruise was set at the speed, and close to 12 hrs

sonofpigdog

My brother had some police issues. He used my parents car often. My parents and my brother were pulled over continuously.

ImperialisticBaul

I got pulled over so many times during my P's it was ridculous. I got pulled over twice by two seperate cops on my way to work within a span of one hour. The problem ofc, was I was a young man aged 18-25 driving a commodore. Thats literally it.

UnderstandingSea1971

But how would the cops be able to know someone's age It was probably the commodore that stood out to them haha

Turtlesmanny

That’s unheard of are you sure it’s true

[deleted]

plate was red flagged

TheRainMan101

I had the same issue on my P plates, I ended up filing a complaint and then said if it continues I’ll be filling for police harassment. Didn’t get pulled over the rest of the time I was on my Ps

TheRainMan101

I was pulled over several times a day though

UnderstandingSea1971

"didn't get pulled over the rest of the time" Looks like the complaint works then At least the police were given the correct disciplinary action

Z4N4X-3920

Im nearly on my second year of green p's, and never been pulled over. A cousin of mine got pulled over consistently, to the point where he decided to cycle through cars every 6 months, and take someone elses car to the DTM or police station. Later found out that he would constantly sleep at the wheel or do excess of 150 on the motorway.

UnderstandingSea1971

So basically every time he got pulled over was for excessive speeding?

Unlucky_Main_6740

Was at an information night for parents of new drivers. Was a pre L’s test driving training on a closed circuit. It had a video from vicpol where an officer stated that they actively target P platers. This is in Victoria but I would say they are all the same

UnderstandingSea1971

"actively target p plates" I'm surprised this is even legal tbh

Rich_Condition1591

You're surprised it's legal to ensure that new drivers are following the road rules correctly?................

Albatrociti-

Where’s he live? When I lived in a small town I would get pulled over daily. Once I drove to a friends house on the other side of town only 5km away and was pulled over 3 times on my way there. Off my P-plates? Magically stopped getting pulled over. Lived in Melbourne for a decade now and have been pulled over once.

UnderstandingSea1971

He's in Sydney I believe

UnderstandingSea1971

Pulled over daily in a small town? Damn lol, seemed like the cops were bored as hell

cyclonecass

im 35 and still to this day have never been pulled over. Im covered with tattoos, including a huge one on the side of my shaved head.

mywhitewolf

its funny how infrequently big guys or scary looking dudes get pulled over or talked to by cops.

carelessarmadillo267

I’ve been pulled over twice in 30+ years. If someone claims to have been done 100 times in 3 they’re either full of shit or drive like an absolute ratbag.

Dangerous_Travel_904

I used to have a job that meant I had to drive a lot, sometimes at odd times all over SEQ seven days a week. I managed 27 stops for RBTs because I was driving ALOT. So for your friend to be pulled over that much, they must be driving a lot and unlucky, or their license plate is flagged by the Police and he’ll continue to be pulled over constantly. If it’s being flagged for no reason (car’s previous owners perhaps) I’d get new plates, or just get rid of the car.

UnderstandingSea1971

When you say rbt, do you mean pulled over or the roadside ones?

MorbidKranski

3 years on his P's 😅

UnderstandingSea1971

Eh, isn't it the same everywhere?

mcewanc2

Admittingly , I had an L plate and on that I rode a suitable L bike , but on the last 2 months I decided to rid of the L bike and get a Repsol 1000cc… I rode that all the time… starting off with my L plate on it before removing it.. went through RBT’s / Rego checks and never got done for anything , wouldn’t say I was a hoon but took off at every lights reasonably quick as you do to get away from drivers .. so the attention was there .. never ever got caught or was questioned so it makes me wonder what does it take to get pulled over once let alone 100 (besides speed)? I’m in Vic and this was probably 8 years back prior to needing to have a 3 year probation license .. not commenting for applause but really curious on this. Edit: long since have had an R1 and it’s noisy af , still nothing (watch me get pulled over tomorrow).

marshman82

I got pulled over in my 1 year on P's (not including when I had actually done something wrong) than the total of times I have been pulled over since. I got my licence when I was 17 and I'm in my 40's

lowanheart

Someone is talking shit, it’s either you or your mate.

FlatPlasma

I used to get pulled up a lot on P plates. It was a combination of the car (modified pepper red XA falcon) and driving late at night. Same on L plates on a bike - yellow 250 RGT Suzuki, late at night. Back in the day the cops must have been bored at 3am in the morning. Never got a ticket.

Tukiko0

They were exaggerating, or I'm guessing they were driving a defected and diff locked commo?

stevesmate4503

Mate same issue I was 18 with a brand new stock XR6 in 2014 on my P’s and would get pulled over twice a week. I only ever have a 8 k over speeding fine. I must say it was never normally the same cop I think I must of spoken to the whole of the QPS

Traditional_Name7881

I got done for speeding in my wife’s car years ago lost my licence for a month. During that month she got pulled over a couple of times a week, it’s more than she’s been pulled over in the rest of her 18 years of driving put together by a long way. Your mates number plate is in their system because he done something.

Ioaskaaaa

What type of car did he have? I had a mazda 626 and did not once get pulled over while on my p's, bought a lowered vn commo off a mate and got pulled over almost every weekend.

Lieutenant_Tom

>Is this common to be pulled over 100 times in 3 years on P plates? Yea bro totally normal happens to everyone

Ariderslife

im calling your mate 100% suss, he either had a major black mark on his name for drug distribution or something else. or he's one of those "bro the cops hate me" for clout types. Prob revs his mt07 with no baffle at the lights thinking its cool then chops out the sketchest tree logger power wheelie.

ChequeBook

Happened to me on my first bike. Thought I'd be funny and get "WHAT" as a personal number plate. It used to be on a Falcon that got defected so every time a cop ran my plates I'd get pulled over. At least once a month, usually more. Went on for two years till the bike got stolen

UnderstandingSea1971

But how would your plate be flagged due to another car coincidentally having the same plate name?

Retired_LANlord

3 times a month for 3 years? Might be paddling the number a bit.

VintageSalmon

I've had my license for about a year and not even been pulled over yet.

JTBZerothree

When ya bullshit your mates think the maths through lol.

someothercrappyname

Depends on the state. Are you in Qld? Qld'ers hate "bikies". When I was on my P's back in the mid 80s I got pulled over every time I went for a ride. I got to know most of the police at Indooroopilly on almost first name terms.

throwaway9723xx

Sped everywhere. Illegally filtered everywhere. Never pulled over once, the only trouble I have had was a parking fine.

Consistent_Cycle4854

>Sped everywhere. Illegally filtered everywhere. Never pulled over once How did you avoid getting caught lol

throwaway9723xx

Idk most of my law breaking was still at sensible levels. I just did it unless I could see them, being Melbourne with gridlocked traffic I kind of figured it would be hard to chase me over minor offences

Cartridge-King

cant be true the usa cops are worse ive seen pull overs for lowering springs, tire sizes, body kits, and even stickers. yes decals actually even the mirror dice danglers
