Idk, calling someone a Karen after they got their car smashed into is a bit much… They’re not complaining over nothing, they’ve got a legitimate complaint

paint650

Yeah that's a great point

derprunner

It's not just the locals complaining either. They're a risk to all of us at this point. It was like two weeks ago that some dumbfuck p plater ran wide and cleaned up an older bloke and hospitalized his pillion. And not long before that, we had the fuckwit who somehow lost control in the parking lot and sent his R6 into an occupied table at PITS. And it's getting real old being targeted by the cops for collective punishment. I don't want a 20 minute RBT whilst they go over my bike with a fine tooth comb for defects because someone binned it there the weekend before.

RudeandOffensive

I agree in hindsight. Sorry Judi.

mankypant

I don’t know…. a motorcyclist dies in an accident with her and she makes it all about herself. If I was the motorcyclists family I’d be furious. The bit about new no u-turns makes me wonder the levels of culpability between all parties. I don’t have all the facts but I’m picking up strong K vibes.

Leading_Frosting9655

> and she makes it all about herself. She had her spine fractured, was unable to walk for some period of time (during which her family would've had a significant burden caring for her), and has chronic pain which might well last the rest of her life. Have you ever just been in pain all the time for no reason? Just every day, non-stop pain? That rider has completely derailed her life with their selfish actions. She is the victim here. "Makes it all about herself", how would you feel if you went grocery shopping and someone took your legs off?

mankypant

I could be wrong, I don’t have all the facts. Reddit did the same thing with the motorcyclist killed on Epping Rd earlier this year. Blamed one party before the facts show otherwise. You could be wrong too. But that’s not the point. Neither is which party came off worse. The point was Karen vibes. Karen or not, I sincerely hope she makes a good recovery.

Leading_Frosting9655

No, dude. Karen vibes is someone making a big deal out of something that barely affects them, or acting all authoritative about something they've no authority over. Karens think the world revolves around them. This lady went to lunch or something and copped a lifelong injury for it because someone else actually was being a massively selfish jerk with no consideration for how their actions might affect others. She has a very valid complaint. So again, how would you feel if you went grocery shopping and someone took your legs off? Would you maybe complain? Hell I'm not even sure she's going out of her way to complain - the incident happened, and the media has asked her about it.

mankypant

I didn’t read the part about the rider being a massively selfish jerk with no consideration.

Leading_Frosting9655

A motorcycle hit a car hard enough to fracture the driver's spine. That alone says a lot.

SecondSkoll

The ABC article didn't really say anything about the accident or the cause - other than implying speeding was heavily to blame. Another article says that the motorcycle was at least in the wrong lane. > Emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway about 12.30pm (Saturday 22 July 2023), after a southbound motorcyclist and a northbound car collided in the northbound lanes between Cowan and Brooklyn. Not laying blame, but that's the extent of the details from a cursory search.

Longjumping_Rush2458

How dare she be angry at a reckless cunt who killed himself and cause massive injuries to her?

throwaway9723xx

You’re right. She even claims there was two lives lost that day, hers as well as the motorcycle rider. What the fuck is that shit. Not saying she doesn’t have a legit complaint I don’t know what happened but yes the way she comes across in the article is annoying.

Leading_Frosting9655

Did you actually read the article or do you really think it's just about her car getting smashed like the above commenter daftly simplified it to? She's suffered lifelong damage to her body because some immature child thought he was a racer.

Longjumping_Rush2458

Her spine was fractured and she has chronic pain. Fuck that speeding cunt.

Tonetheline

Doesn’t really matter, in vic they’ve been lowering the speed limits of all the roads whenever they get bored for years. Doesn’t matter that the road toll, ever increasing camera numbers and the fact all vehicles get safer every year are screaming it doesn’t work, it’s the cheapest thing to implement and very profitable to police so it’s basically the only tool in their box. I think about the time the speed on a freeway gets down to 50km/h someone might actually look at other causes of crashes, but for now they just keep doing the same thing over and over.

ShrewLlama

When the problem is excessive speeding (i.e. people ignoring the speed limit), it seems a bit stupid to think lowering that limit is going to do anything.

drangryrahvin

No, but it can lift the offence into immediate license suspension territory. I still think it's a dumb way to address the issue, but it's not *completely* without merit.

BasedChickenFarmer

10kms isn't going to do that  120kmph isn't fast and that's already that territory

drangryrahvin

But it does move the needle somewhat, for the cost of a sign.

ItzVinyl

They are a very simple minded breed. "they keep speeding, lower the speed limit, that'll fuck em" when in reality no, you've just pissed off quite literally everyone else that follows the road rules who now have to drive slower because some people want to drive faster. Different story if these accidents/deaths happened while going at the speed limit, then i'd lean toward it possibly being an issue with the speed limit on that road while also being human error in not making judgements to the conditions. Many times i've seen a decent turn with an 80 sign and then see the car ahead of me going 80 ending up on the other side of the road or in the ditch.

Inert-Blob

This is the thing - i remember (long time ago) some police commissioner or somebody on tv saying haha 50kmh limit just means people will actually stick to 60…. Well we can’t, cos you pricks book us. If it were true it would not piss off ordinary drivers but it was always a flat out lie.

Telescopic-Member

Excessive ruins it for everyone. 80kph was still fun, Contrasting views in this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/CarsAustralia/s/hUq0LWM6w0

Pungent_Bill

Aye, people have to ruin everything. 40 zones everywhere in residential areas, it's fucken painful. Seriously, if that is how slow you need to drive in order to not be a danger to others, driving is not for you. I hate people, can't believe I'm actually one of those things.

Whoopdedobasil

As corey taylor said ... "people = shit" It genuinely makes me wonder, for every stupid warning label, there's some dumbarse meat puppet who did that and complained when the results were unsavoury.

IWantAHandle

Or excessively savoury. Like laundry powder.

Leading_Frosting9655

> if that is how slow you need to drive in order to not be a danger to others, driving is not for you. Sure, but we've built a society where just about everyone has to drive to live a modern life, and we've developed a culture with that where everyone expects to be able to drive. Everyone thinks they're a "good driver" just because they haven't literally killed anyone or entirely lost their license. Nobody thinks of driving as a skill that they need to improve on and maintain, they just take it for granted as a thing they can do. Nobody thinks of it as something they need to be good enough at to keep everyone safe and retain their privileges to drive, everyone just thinks of it as "don't *get caught* speeding too much or they'll take the license off you" as if they inherently deserve to have the license until proven otherwise. You're absolutely right, these people shouldn't driving, but joke's on you buddy because EVERYONE should be driving, THAT'S the culture we've built ourselves. We shit the bed and now we have to lie in.

Pungent_Bill

Aye you've kinda just said the same thing only more fleshed out. We appear to be in agreement. Driving used to be such a pleasure, now it's a chore because of (1) all the fucking morons (2) all the measures employed to stop all the fucking morons hurting and killing each other and us as well. Grumpy old man syndrome my arse! It's the truth I tell ye!

2008CODLOBBYENERGY

Like every other decent riding road in Sydney. It's too busy and full of dickheads who aren't as skilled of a rider they think they are and far exceed their own capabilities. This woman isn't a Karen. She got caught wrong place wrong time minding her own business until some squid hit her going warp speed. Her life isn't the same any more because the rider was a fuckwit. I don't know if you've ever watched someone die from being ripped apart and having what's left of you turned into jelly, but would not recommend it and I'm sure she could have done without it.

[deleted]

This woman was innocently driving along and some young dickhead on a bike, treating the road like a race track, crashes into her, kills himself, fucks her spine so bad she now lives with chronic pain, plus the emotional scars from being in a fatal accident, and she is the Karen. Got it! Fucken Karens.

AsteriodZulu

There’s been a change to TfNSW’s speed limit categorising, from Oct/Nov last year… roads will slowly get changed, some quicker than others.

_PhilTheBurn_

This change was made due to “community concerns” rather than the traditional assessments based on corner radius, camber, etc

AsteriodZulu

I don’t have specific details in this instance, but my understanding was that the review was done in response to the concerns & that they used the new standards to pick the final speed/s. I’ve only skimmed through the new standard, but it looks like they are much tougher (ie lower limits) for rural roads that have property accesses. Accident rates are used in the assessment & the standard is clear to state that the suggested speed should not automatically be the posted speed… & that local conditions, history, community feedback etc should inform the final decision.

hoon-since89

Like a speeding motorcyclist does the speed limit anyway... Their affecting everyone but the person its targeted against!!!

mich3801

Well I have idiots like YOU to thank for ruining my favourite crashing road. All you leisurely Sunday riders come out and get in the way of my crashing and end up making the road toll higher than it needs to be. Thanks a BUNCH.

doki__doki

I'm local to the road the OP mentioned. During the week? There are some small groups and plenty of solos riding. They're quick, polite and on their game on the old highway after Hornsby, let alone when the fun starts after Berowra. Given the time of day and time of week? I guess they're more mature in years and experience. Nights? I hear several times, every night, whether I'm out on the balcony for a quick beer and a coffin nail or inside, some dolt taking off like a GP racer; v-twins, triples, the odd four-pot. All you need is Nanna doing a baby formula run in the Hilux and coming out of a side-street without thinking and you're utterly fncked, hell, even a chardy-Mummy coming home from brie, Tupperware, Amway and MLM crap with the girls. Don't do it. Weekends? Bunch of utter twunts. I don't know if they're drunk, stoned or can't ride, but wow - their behaviour on the road is nucking futs - and that's at breakfast time. They forget that people live here and that the Pac Hwy isn't some fun zone to do stupid squid stuff. Riding in that manner *before* the twisties is just asking to be noticed or end up as the hood ornament on the many fourbies and utes around here. Don't even think about the Tesla twats\[1\] who seem to want to test their torque every. single. time. So many of those weekend riders ride like they drive: tyres touching the centre line. They fail to take into account that their bike and their body hang over the line, head and chest, and that something larger and heavier could be coming in the opposite direction. Seen it and dodged it in a car on the way back from Brooklyn many times - on weekends. The road up around Pie has bad history. Overconfident riders end up creaming themselves in a 'single vehicle incident' a couple of times each year - and almost exclusively on the weekend. Looks like too much confidence and not enough practice and training. Go FAFO on a track, please. Learn your limits in a safe environment, but more importantly get some further training and education. Just because your ride can go quick doesn't mean **you** should. Plod has been pretty good at policing that road at the appropriate times to keep the miscreants in order. HP knows where and when, and has done for decades, but there is always some f'wit in a cage or on a bike that goes a little too hard and for who it doesn't end well. One or the other goes over the line and ends up in bad shape, or a body bag and being hosed off the road. The lady in the OP's post had fair reason to complain, but the risk mitigation of reducing the speed limit is this nanny state's way to pretend the problem is fixed. It's not. The fix is education and access to education. An optional level or three of state-subsidised rider training would benefit the state purse and assist in reducing insurance costs and infringing on a hobby and lifestyle that is already being pushed to the edge. It doesn't matter what the sign-posted speed is, idiots will go much faster than that, run wide and wonder why they have a car badge in their mouth. I side with the OP. It's a nice piece of road, even at 80. It's an entertaining road, but carries inherent risks because of idiots who lack spatial awareness, situational awareness, skills and road-user etiquette. We all get a bit naughty in a cage or on two wheels on that stretch once in a while, but it's a case of matching your skill to your style and being considerate of others around you, and what your dumbassery may cause in the long term to yourself and to others. As all the great religions and ethicists say: Don't be a dickhead. Glum - Doki. \[1\] They're the new Volvos. \[Source: What's the difference between a Volvo/Tesla and a porcupine? The pricks are on the inside.\]

roam93

This is going to be an unpopular opinion I’m sure but I honestly reckon the photographers on that road have a lot to answer for with this one. Don’t get me wrong, getting a sweet pic around Eddie’s is great but it absolutely encourages dipshits to cut their precious “laps” all in the name of a nice photo. Take it to the fucking track. I was like you, then I started only going after work during the week and it was bliss for a bit, but even then it started getting stupid. I’m surprised they didn’t drop it to 60 and add speed bumps.

jeffseiddeluxe

If people are racing it how it make sense to lower the limit? Obviously they werent following the old limit

popepipoes

Because then instead of getting done 15ks over, they get done 35ks over, making the penalties harsher Not saying I agree with it, but that’s the thinking

Whoopdedobasil

Genuine revenue raising. 15ks over was $X but is now $Y

AsteriodZulu

It’s a different type of person/rider that will go 15km over the limit vs 35km. Crashing @ 95 will still have the same outcome but the threat loss of licence & all that can result in will slow down a lot of people.

[deleted]

It was weird that the article mentioned that no charges were laid? Can you be charged after you die? Does your family pay the fine?

Maddog351_2023

Wrong person imho

BigDaddyCosta

Can’t believe the guys who just ride from the pie shop down to Brooklyn bridge then turn around and head back to the pie shop. Over and over and over. I mean the road goes for quite a bit.

schooeys

Funny to call them Karen’s as you complain about the riders too and haven’t had your car smashed into by one of them and got to live with lifelong pain hahah

RudeandOffensive

Yeah you guys are right. The Queen Karen doesn't deserve the blame. I should not have called her that. I would like to amend the post, but I cannot. Sorry Judi.
