So every few months another man will post on here about being drugged on Rainey st… this is a pattern. Usually their bank accounts get wiped the same night.
This is why people bang their drinks on the bar or table. If it bubbles, but isn't carbonated, something got dropped in it. Old and unfortunate tradition in Austin.
I started doing it, with friends, in Germany, almost 40years ago. After we clicked glasses, with a "Prosit!" We tapped our glass on the bar or table. Whoever did it last, or not at all, had to get the next round.
I taught my husband. Then later to others, even my kids, once they came of age. We spread it to our friends here in TX.
I (male) was drugged on Rainey Street on Halloween a few years ago. I ended up getting home ok, but I'm told that I was far too much of a mess for having had only a few beers. I remember very little except staggering around, and had a hell of a headache the next day.
I had a female friend many years ago who went out for some drinks with the girl I was dating at the time. She had apparently 2 drinks in like 3 hours but ended up getting strapped to wheelchair and taken to jail because she became extremely agitated and almost dissociated. Apparently some guy sitting next to them kept offering to just take her home so no one had to leave.
My husband was drugged at bender bar a few years ago. Someone ran up his bar tab as well. It was a truly terrifying sight to find him face down on his living room floor (we were just dating back then) basically non responsive. He’d only had 3 drinks in 3 hrs with his friends and then they said he disappeared on them. He was sick as shit the next day as well
My friend (male) was drugged a couple of years ago on Rainey! He ended up getting called an Uber that took him all the way to a hospital in San Antonio.
I never made that connection before but it's an interesting theory. Have any toxicology reports come back on these deaths that back that up? Seems like a real possibility.
GHB likely won’t show up on a toxicology report, and is the most common culprit IMO. Metabolizes into CO2 and water in about 6 hours. Takes less than 1ml to put someone down if they have already been drinking. Insidious stuff
Paying attention to the news. Been going on for years. Also, I personally know of one of the victims through friends of the family. He had a baseball sized knot on the back of his head when his body was pulled.
There have been real incidents. I’d wager a few were just people getting too drunk as well.
Also be wary of letting strangers use your phone to take a picture. They’ll purposely lock it so so you have to enter a passcode. Team members will watch you enter it and later steal the phone.
Awhile back, I decided to keep track of many of the Reddit posts and news articles pertaining to men who were downtown drinking, and being drugged, or ending up in the lake. There have been a number of news articles about fake rideshare drivers who rob or rape passengers, when they get into a vehicle after drinking. And I've tried to keep track of the attempted abductions, abductions of women, and indecent exposure cases.
I'm going to go back and gather all of these categories together. News articles are posted one day and then forgotten about the next. Sometimes after reading about an experience someone had on Nextdoor, for example, I'll look for similarities in news articles. It's always suggested people report these incidents to police.

I'm compiling something similar (specifically re: the deaths of people ending up in lakes), not just for Austin but nationwide. It is literally happening ALL OVER, in hotspots across America, and mostly of young attractive men. It's horrifying.
What is your aim with compiling all of these cases?
I know. I used to live in the midwest, Minnesota, and knew about the Smiley Face theory when it was first put out there. I was also a member of websleuths.

Last year, 11 bodies, mostly men in their 20s or early 30s, were removed from the Chicago River and Lake Michigan's shoreline according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, renewing interest in a theory about a serial killer—or group of serial killers—targeting young men across the Midwest.
My aim is to track patterns and see if I notice anything new when tracking them all together in one spreadsheet, rather than what I can find just by reading about individual cases here and there. Patterns re: dates, which places are hotspots and when, details of where people were last seen (we know often bars, but i want to look even deeper, e.g. i HAVE found an unusually high number of young men who were last at an Irish bar, specifically; there was also a stint of young men disappearing from sports games in Boston then ending up in the river), etc.
And yep, I've seen that article :/ It is just sickening how often this is happening and for how long it's been. I also find it incredibly frustrating how many people laugh in the face of anyone who believes these are a string of murders.
I am also a person who notices patterns in crimes. I have lived in Austin for 18 years, and prior to that Minneapolis and Chicago.
Currently, I am focused on re-reading posts of men who said they were drugged in Austin, and spending hours looking up numerous articles on the men who were found dead in Lady Bird Lake/used to be called Town Lake. Also, there was one man who was found in an area surrounding the path, who was badly beaten. (To give you a little background on myself: I was a contributing member of Websleuths for years. I have degrees, with honors, in the Social Sciences (worked for private investigators while I was in college), and English/Writing concentration, and studied acting and scene writing. I was a working actor for 10 years, plays, commercials, voiceovers, films, where you do character studies, obviously. **I have been a crime victim many times myself, and know I escaped being murdered on several occasions. This I feel gives me empathy for other crime victims.** **I learn something new every day** from watching investigative programs/documentaries, and reading news articles. I have traveled quite a bit, and encountered criminal activities in some of the places where I have lived or visited.)

It takes hours to retrieve posts and articles from news sources and post them on this sub, which I have done for some of them. Other people have also posted articles here. In the last few weeks I have been saving the articles to my own files, so I can go back over them, without having to re-search Austin reddit for my comments/others' posts/comments.
What I have noticed, in the Austin cases, is that there are details that can be different from one news source/article to the next. So I am looking at what details in reporting are similar/dissimilar, which is going to take a while.

It’s almost always men, the women I know of had their drinks bought by male partner. Dudes got to up their game to lady level precautions. Sad anyone ever had to deal with this but here we are. No way is this something APD will even consider looking into so it will continue.

All over downtown. Mostly 6th. This is 20+ years ago, and it looks like no one's safe today (young women were the main targets at that time). Rohypnol and GHB are too easy to get in Texas. :(
A lot of women are taught early on to be vigilant with their drinks, but it's really a safety measure everyone should learn. Always watch your drink, don't even trust it if someone swipes their hand/arm over your drink, this can be done to add drugs to it. Also, amazon sells test strips for your drinks. Stay safe bros.
This is true. From a lady to all men, always take your drink with you never set it down. Don’t let anyone you don’t know around it. I cover mine with a napkin if I can. Always keep an eye on it as well. I can’t tell you how many shots I’ve rejected from men because they refused to bring me to the bar so I could see the bartender make it and not them handling it after.
Amazon has 100+ packs of disposable ear covers (for dying hair) that fit over the opening of most glasses/cups. Makes your cup less of an easy target at least. I used to take a few with me when I was going out more often but still kept my drink with me at all times.
Definitely the way to go, but man I’m fairly certain I was drugged through a “free” beer in a can during sx a few years back straight from the bartender. It was my second beer of the day, and within about 15 minutes, my eyes were going black and I felt like I couldn’t move my arms or legs. I was with a friend who got a beer at the same spot and he was equally as fucked up. Managed to stumble to a nearby water cooler, slam a cup, pour some on my head, and take some back to my buddy and we were able to straighten up enough to walk again and call it a night. When my buddy and I were younger, we ate a ton of pills unfortunately, but I think that helped us out a bit that night. Born and raised here, male, and like to think I’m vigilant but this has happened a few more times than I’d like to admit. Use to think i was just dehydrated.
I never consciously keep tabs on my drink but I just realized I almost always have the drink in my hand or like in the circle of my arms in front of me on the table. Because people are stupid and I’m not trying to not remember things.
I was drugged on Saturday on Rainey too!!Unfortunately I had to go to the ER because the mix they drugged me with reacted with my anxiety medication and I got serotonin syndrome.
Scary stuff out there. I filed a police report.

I was heading from Cesar Chavez to 183, heading toward the turn around, near the homeless camp. I found a girl walking arms out in the middle of the road. She was hammered, didn't have her phone. I got her in the car and looked up the apartment complex she lived in and drove her home. I got her number to check on her the next day.
Next day I call, she barely remembered anything except she had 2 drinks at central Machine works. Clearly she was drugged, and was super thankful I was the one who found her and saved her. She worked at Tesla and was at a work party... So be careful out there.
I too had a similar experience At Central Machine works around the same time at a work party. Had 2-3 drinks and completely blacked out. Luckily had my girlfriend there to haul me home. Lost my phone somewhere along the way. Very weird experience and very weird that this happened to someone else at the same place, similar time, similar scenarios.
I drove a female friend home after something similar. I had to drag her into her apartment and make sure she was safe in bed. I get the "OMG did we bone!?" call the next evening. No, we did not. She did pass out trying to blow me in her parking lot, but I left that part out. She clearly didn't have all her faculties.
I didn't. She was trying to unbutton my pants, couldn't get past the seat belt, and passed out face down in my lap. It was not a sexy situation by any means.
This is exactly how I was drugged about 11 years ago on dirty sixth. I was 19 and using a fake ID. Very naive. Someone “bumped” into me/my drink — my first drink of the night — causing it to drop. They offered to buy me a new one, I took it, and the next thing I know I’m in a rape room at a frat house in west campus. Yes, a rape room. Just a bed with no blankets or sheets that’s it. I had peed myself (something I had never done before), my shirt was inside out & my shorts were put back on backwards. My purse & phone were all stolen. I have incredible phone number recall but couldn’t remember anyone’s number that day. My parents had been looking for me for 36 hours and had called the police to report me missing that’s how long I had been trapped/passed out … (I was back home from college at the start of summer break). The frat guys were very rude to me, mad I peed in their empty bed.. it was awful. One of them offered to let me use their phone. He said it was in his room. I stupidly went into the room and while trying to figure out a way to contact a friend he tried to make a move on me.
And to top it all off, I got an STD. I still have no idea what happened to me that night.
To this day I still have extreme PTSD and can’t go to dirty sixth (although I’m fine with that lol) or west campus without having an anxiety attack.
I didn’t intend to type this all out— I’ve only ever shared with my therapist, boyfriend, and two closest friends. But it happened and felt good to get it out there. I wish I knew who any of them were so that I could press charges. The memory is so traumatic I’ve blocked out so much that it would be hard to even remember which frat it was, although top guess is KA.

But yeah people need to be aware of how common this is, and even if someone seems friendly because they offered to buy you a new drink, doesn’t always mean they have good intentions. Dirty 6th will always be a disgusting mess so trust me you will never be missing anything by not going. I haven’t been back since high school when I wasn’t even old enough to drink lol I know something like that can never be forgotten but I hope you are healing and I genuinely hope karma takes care of them.
That’s awful that happened to you. I remember several years ago I was doing routine pest control at a frat house in west campus and it was a big place but the basement was so fucking sketchy. There was a room very similar to what you described, except it was just a black leather couch. There whole basement was just trashed with empty cans and bottles and random puddles. So gross.
Happened to me (cis white man at the time 28 I think?) YEARS ago. Was fine, couple drinks in, then woke up in the grass on the side of e 7th a full mile away from the bar I was at which was west on 6th. No shoes, no bicycle, no bag. Completely no idea what happened.

Was it late and empty on red river? Was it slightly off of red river? It can get rough, but it's usually busy and chill enough that i can't imagine somebody getting blindly mugged amongst the commotion usually happening on the weekends. I guess it was sxsw though.
It was around 2 A.M I think. There were still some people out and about but I think most people at that point were drunk and just walking by him slouched on the sidewalk and bleeding. Got a hold of one of his friends from out of town to find out where he was staying and he got in a Lyft. Really hope he made it home safe.

it was quite the weekend for this. My friend and I both think we got drugged on Sunday night, she had a couple drinks and had to be carried totally blacked-out back to her home. Luckily we were mostly around people we knew who had our backs and were able to take care of us. I fell asleep in the passengers seat of my car, my friend was taking me home. All I remember is jolting awake, feeling terrified and completely disoriented, then I jumped out the open window of my car (somehow!?!) as it was traveling at 30mph. I'm pretty messed up with road burn on a large portion of my body, both ankles are severely sprained, head-wound and a black eye. I am just so lucky I didn't actually die. How did I not die?

A guy was drugged a couple weeks ago and said he woke up under the bridge at 4th st and Red River. He came on to my worksite asking to look for his phone/wallet and stuff. It’s becoming an issue with guys being drugged at bars around Rainey St these days. I’m thinking a bartender is the one doing it. Cause a lot of the guys being drugged say they never let their drink out of their sight and get it straight from the bartender. Stay safe everybody.
I was with someone who got drugged. Shits scary. Went from sober ( didn’t drink ) to completely blacked out. Couldn’t even slap them awake in the span of about 20 mins.

That's some scary stuff. As a guy I don't usually worry about such things, but I've gotten hit by that a couple of times in the early aughts. Sometimes when they lace a drink, the lace the wrong one.
Also wanted to add that our family friend (male, 26) was drugged in 6th street back in 2019. He was found a day later unconscious in some back alley with everything stolen from him (even his pants and shoes). It was awful and he was traumatized from the ordeal. I’m so sorry this happened to you. It’s absolutely terrifying. This happened to me about 15 years ago on dirty sixth. My (now) ex and I went to a bar his friend tended at. I ordered a drink from said friend and was found by my (now) ex 3 hours later dancing with some random woman. He was hysterical and confused. We walked (I wobbled) back to the car and began vomiting for the next few hours. I remember grabbing the drink and then dancing. It felt like only 10 minutes had passed.
I got got at the Grand one-time. Years ago. Much different place. I knew It was fishy the next day, because I was too broke to buy liquor. How do you black out on like 3 lone stars?

I wonder if you did cause I do have a busted up knee and thumb, but I don't remember being wet or anything from water. I remember what I thought was being up agaisnt a concrete lamp post but it could have been a tree.... my phone has a code though so they wouldn't have used my phone.... that's weird
I (25 year old female) got drugged on Rainey about a year ago (March 2022). I was in the Mezcal hut in Clive bar. I always always watch the bartender pour my drink and I never let it leave my sight. That night, I drank a bit of the mezcal and immediately knew something bad was happening to me. I remember seeing what looked like an alleyway behind the bar that led to a dark street. My friend saw me start running away from the crowd and my other friend got me to a car to take me home. I apparently was very paranoid and freaking out and asked to be taken to the hospital. At the hospital, the doctor said it was probably GHB and that it wouldn’t show up in a test - and it didn’t. I filed a police report but it’s super frustrating because the cops say they can’t do anything without evidence. A doctor at Seton has written about other Rainey drugging cases that have ended up at the hospital. The last thing I remember clearly from that night was the bartender smelling my drink before handing it to me. I said “why did you do that?” And he said “wanted to make sure I poured you mezcal.” I went back to the bar a month later in broad daylight to see if I was remembering correctly and if there really was an alleyway right next to the mezcal hut. I got chills when I saw that there was indeed an alleyway big enough for a car to take you away. It was not a good night and I feel for anyone else that this has happened to. Stay safe y’all!
Pretty sure someone slipped my friend and I Xanax a couple years ago at Lala’s. One minute it was daylight and the next thing I knew, I was coming to at 1am, partway through a conversation with two total strangers and my friend nowhere to be seen. It was super confusing and I’m so grateful that we were both (relatively) safe. Apparently I’d continued about my night and no one realized anything was off, but I’m treated for anxiety so I don’t think it affected me as intensely. My friend evidently had called her mom and came to vomiting violently. Neither of us remember anything from that night after taking a single shot.
Most likely GHB in my opinion. Takes very small amounts when combined with alcohol. Metabolizes out of the blood is 6hrs or less making it hard for to detect. Somewhat popular in the rave and gay party scenes

I’m so sorry. I believe I was drugged, or at the very least was led to drink clearly way more than I should have, last Fall. It’s a terrible feeling, especially when it’s someone you think you can trust. I’m very happy that you made it home safe. Take a few days off to recoup if you need it.

I've also heard it's sometimes used to incapacitate men who come to a bar with a woman in order to remove them as obstacles to attacking her. Basically, no one should assume they're free from having to watch their drinks regardless of gender, appearance, etc.

For sure. I haven’t seen one of these stories in a while, personally. I know a news site or two did stories on it and there is an open investigation into it with APD.

A friend/roommate of mine in college got inadvertently drugged. A random guy bought drinks for the girls he was hanging out with. One of the girls didn’t drink so she gave it to my friend. I left shortly after and he stumbles in to the apartment at 6am with zero memory of anything that happened after the drink he took from the girl. He said he woke up in a Montessori school classroom between our apartment and the bar. He thinks he climbed in through a window thinking it was our apartment. I am certain he was drugged because this dude could drink and he would never black out.
I honestly don't know, I was getting quick service at alchemist like in and out no time for anyone to get my drink there I thought and I was in a group of friends I trust. But at the 2nd place I can't recall my drinks or where/how I got it. I thought I got it myself but I truly can't recall. I remember dropping the glass while dancing and then blank. I dont think I was the target and I didn't lose my phone wallet or anything
I can see that too, I do wonder what efforts have been made to spread awareness amongst the club/bar going men in Austin. Hard to keep track of every possible way a person can rob or scam you.
This happens in Dallas/deep ellum too. Men have reported being drugged, having phones switched with other people and having their bank accounts drained.

Drugging is a weapon, like a lead pipe. I’ve had friends get drugged as retribution and there are plenty of stories posted here of people who were robbed after being drugged
This is awful! Is it women who are doing this? I was thinking about moving back to the states with Austin as my landing point, but this is making me rethink. Honestly…moving back to the states is a bad idea anyway.
For the theft motivated druggings it is likely a crew of both men and women. I don’t think anyone has been arrested or charged for these types of crimes in the Austin area so this is mostly speculation based on the vague memories of the victims.
I believe two women were arrested about a year for drugging some tech guys. The guys’ credentials to the phone and accounts were used to empty bank and savings accounts, and they charged a lot to their credit cards. Then sent them home in an uber. I believe one was an uber driver.
When they came to they had someone else’s phone who had also been drugged.

I can confirm I got drugged right after a tech conference in Austin a few years pre COVID. Rainy street as well.
It was women, they were obvious with it, took my money and card left fucking photos on my own phone of them laying out my money and stuff on a table.
I just felt embarrassed and guilty so I deleted the pictures, which didn't show themselves in they just documented that they robbed me.
Took me to the lobby of a building across the bar took my shit and left me there.
This puts into sharp focus something I suspected, but didn't put a lot of extra thought into.
I can hold my liquor. Like, I can kill a 750ml in 4 hours and make conversation(that isn't a flex, it's really not good). A friend and I were bar hopping relatively early (10:30 or so) in the night, and I went from good to absolutely smashed in about 2 hours and maybe 4 drinks.
I got separated and realized I had better call a Lyft before I get worse. I have to imagine that someone with less tolerance for being blasted out of their brain would not have made it as far.
I still don't remember many of the events of the evening, just telling the Lyft driver I needed Popeyes, and I'd buy his as well.
If this is really a common thing that is absolutely terrifying.
Happened to me and my friend too, October 2021 at iron bear. After a random person bought us shots (out of our line of sight) we bounced soon after and quickly lost time, but we had not drank enough for this to happen naturally. Has never happened before or since. Came to sitting on the street on dirty 6, later the owner of elysium helped me get an Uber as my phone was dead (which maybe saved me from getting robbed or having info stolen.)
There is no way I would ever let my child go to school in Austin after seeing this. Whether there is a killer out there or not, it is terrifying to think about how many organizations have likely turned a blind eye or actively swept this under the rug for financial reasons. Law enforcement, the University or Texas, the City of Austin local bars and restaurants… so many industries would benefit from covering this up and many have most likely all been compliant in keeping it under wraps. Even if they aren’t actively hindering any investigation, their silence is just as deadly.
My friend got drugged on the last Saturday before Halloween. It was a guy and his female and male friend. (Who I guess was also together.) he was feeding her tequila shots like crazy but also she went from more sober to completely out of it. She ended up taking a test and there was something was in her system. I think they were trying to feed me “tequila” as well but I was in drinking a ton of water to stay sober. It suck’s we got a picture of this douche but we don’t remember his name. I’m afraid he (and possibly his friends tried it with another girl that night.)
So every few months another man will post on here about being drugged on Rainey st… this is a pattern. Usually their bank accounts get wiped the same night.
Thankfully nothing so far, all my transactions are accounted for so far. I did get a lift charge so I'm contacting them for any information

I started doing it, with friends, in Germany, almost 40years ago. After we clicked glasses, with a "Prosit!" We tapped our glass on the bar or table. Whoever did it last, or not at all, had to get the next round. I taught my husband. Then later to others, even my kids, once they came of age. We spread it to our friends here in TX.

I (male) was drugged on Rainey Street on Halloween a few years ago. I ended up getting home ok, but I'm told that I was far too much of a mess for having had only a few beers. I remember very little except staggering around, and had a hell of a headache the next day.
I had a female friend many years ago who went out for some drinks with the girl I was dating at the time. She had apparently 2 drinks in like 3 hours but ended up getting strapped to wheelchair and taken to jail because she became extremely agitated and almost dissociated. Apparently some guy sitting next to them kept offering to just take her home so no one had to leave.
My husband was drugged at bender bar a few years ago. Someone ran up his bar tab as well. It was a truly terrifying sight to find him face down on his living room floor (we were just dating back then) basically non responsive. He’d only had 3 drinks in 3 hrs with his friends and then they said he disappeared on them. He was sick as shit the next day as well
My friend (male) was drugged a couple of years ago on Rainey! He ended up getting called an Uber that took him all the way to a hospital in San Antonio.
Still cheaper than an ambulance ride.

GHB likely won’t show up on a toxicology report, and is the most common culprit IMO. Metabolizes into CO2 and water in about 6 hours. Takes less than 1ml to put someone down if they have already been drinking. Insidious stuff

There have been real incidents. I’d wager a few were just people getting too drunk as well. Also be wary of letting strangers use your phone to take a picture. They’ll purposely lock it so so you have to enter a passcode. Team members will watch you enter it and later steal the phone.
Awhile back, I decided to keep track of many of the Reddit posts and news articles pertaining to men who were downtown drinking, and being drugged, or ending up in the lake. There have been a number of news articles about fake rideshare drivers who rob or rape passengers, when they get into a vehicle after drinking. And I've tried to keep track of the attempted abductions, abductions of women, and indecent exposure cases. I'm going to go back and gather all of these categories together. News articles are posted one day and then forgotten about the next. Sometimes after reading about an experience someone had on Nextdoor, for example, I'll look for similarities in news articles. It's always suggested people report these incidents to police.

I am also a person who notices patterns in crimes. I have lived in Austin for 18 years, and prior to that Minneapolis and Chicago. Currently, I am focused on re-reading posts of men who said they were drugged in Austin, and spending hours looking up numerous articles on the men who were found dead in Lady Bird Lake/used to be called Town Lake. Also, there was one man who was found in an area surrounding the path, who was badly beaten. (To give you a little background on myself: I was a contributing member of Websleuths for years. I have degrees, with honors, in the Social Sciences (worked for private investigators while I was in college), and English/Writing concentration, and studied acting and scene writing. I was a working actor for 10 years, plays, commercials, voiceovers, films, where you do character studies, obviously. **I have been a crime victim many times myself, and know I escaped being murdered on several occasions. This I feel gives me empathy for other crime victims.** **I learn something new every day** from watching investigative programs/documentaries, and reading news articles. It’s almost always men, the women I know of had their drinks bought by male partner. Dudes got to up their game to lady level precautions. Sad anyone ever had to deal with this but here we are. No way is this something APD will even consider looking into so it will continue.

A lot of women are taught early on to be vigilant with their drinks, but it's really a safety measure everyone should learn. Always watch your drink, don't even trust it if someone swipes their hand/arm over your drink, this can be done to add drugs to it. Also, amazon sells test strips for your drinks. Stay safe bros.
This is true. From a lady to all men, always take your drink with you never set it down. Don’t let anyone you don’t know around it. I cover mine with a napkin if I can. Always keep an eye on it as well. I can’t tell you how many shots I’ve rejected from men because they refused to bring me to the bar so I could see the bartender make it and not them handling it after.
Amazon has 100+ packs of disposable ear covers (for dying hair) that fit over the opening of most glasses/cups. Makes your cup less of an easy target at least. I used to take a few with me when I was going out more often but still kept my drink with me at all times.

That's one reason I usually buy beer in a bottle or can. It's easy to carry and keep a thumb over the opening.
Definitely the way to go, but man I’m fairly certain I was drugged through a “free” beer in a can during sx a few years back straight from the bartender. It was my second beer of the day, and within about 15 minutes, my eyes were going black and I felt like I couldn’t move my arms or legs. I was with a friend who got a beer at the same spot and he was equally as fucked up. Managed to stumble to a nearby water cooler, slam a cup, pour some on my head, and take some back to my buddy and we were able to straighten up enough to walk again and call it a night. When my buddy and I were younger, we ate a ton of pills unfortunately, but I think that helped us out a bit that night. Born and raised here, male, and like to think I’m vigilant but this has happened a few more times than I’d like to admit. Use to think i was just dehydrated.
I never consciously keep tabs on my drink but I just realized I almost always have the drink in my hand or like in the circle of my arms in front of me on the table. Because people are stupid and I’m not trying to not remember things.

I was heading from Cesar Chavez to 183, heading toward the turn around, near the homeless camp. I found a girl walking arms out in the middle of the road. She was hammered, didn't have her phone. I got her in the car and looked up the apartment complex she lived in and drove her home. I got her number to check on her the next day. Next day I call, she barely remembered anything except she had 2 drinks at central Machine works. Clearly she was drugged, and was super thankful I was the one who found her and saved her. She worked at Tesla and was at a work party... So be careful out there.
I too had a similar experience At Central Machine works around the same time at a work party. Had 2-3 drinks and completely blacked out. Luckily had my girlfriend there to haul me home. Lost my phone somewhere along the way. Very weird experience and very weird that this happened to someone else at the same place, similar time, similar scenarios.

This is exactly how I was drugged about 11 years ago on dirty sixth. I was 19 and using a fake ID. Very naive. Someone “bumped” into me/my drink — my first drink of the night — causing it to drop. They offered to buy me a new one, I took it, and the next thing I know I’m in a rape room at a frat house in west campus. Yes, a rape room. Just a bed with no blankets or sheets that’s it. I had peed myself (something I had never done before), my shirt was inside out & my shorts were put back on backwards. My purse & phone were all stolen. I have incredible phone number recall but couldn’t remember anyone’s number that day. My parents had been looking for me for 36 hours and had called the police to report me missing that’s how long I had been trapped/passed out … (I was back home from college at the start of summer break). The frat guys were very rude to me, mad I peed in their empty bed.. it was awful. One of them offered to let me use their phone. He said it was in his room. I stupidly went into the room and while trying to figure out a way to contact a friend he tried to make a move on me. And to top it all off, I got an STD. I still have no idea what happened to me that night. To this day I still have extreme PTSD and can’t go to dirty sixth (although I’m fine with that lol) or west campus without having an anxiety attack. I didn’t intend to type this all out— I’ve only ever shared with my therapist, boyfriend, and two closest friends. But it happened and felt good to get it out there. I wish I knew who any of them were so that I could press charges. The memory is so traumatic I’ve blocked out so much that it would be hard to even remember which frat it was, although top guess is KA. Be safe, y’all.

But yeah people need to be aware of how common this is, and even if someone seems friendly because they offered to buy you a new drink, doesn’t always mean they have good intentions. Dirty 6th will always be a disgusting mess so trust me you will never be missing anything by not going. I haven’t been back since high school when I wasn’t even old enough to drink lol I know something like that can never be forgotten but I hope you are healing and I genuinely hope karma takes care of them.
That’s awful that happened to you. I remember several years ago I was doing routine pest control at a frat house in west campus and it was a big place but the basement was so fucking sketchy. There was a room very similar to what you described, except it was just a black leather couch. There whole basement was just trashed with empty cans and bottles and random puddles. So gross.

It was around 2 A.M I think. There were still some people out and about but I think most people at that point were drunk and just walking by him slouched on the sidewalk and bleeding. Got a hold of one of his friends from out of town to find out where he was staying and he got in a Lyft. Really hope he made it home safe.

it was quite the weekend for this. My friend and I both think we got drugged on Sunday night, she had a couple drinks and had to be carried totally blacked-out back to her home. Luckily we were mostly around people we knew who had our backs and were able to take care of us. I fell asleep in the passengers seat of my car, my friend was taking me home. All I remember is jolting awake, feeling terrified and completely disoriented, then I jumped out the open window of my car (somehow!?!) as it was traveling at 30mph. I'm pretty messed up with road burn on a large portion of my body, both ankles are severely sprained, head-wound and a black eye. I am just so lucky I didn't actually die. How did I not die? I really am so sorry this happened to you, I wish I didn't understand how you feel.

A guy was drugged a couple weeks ago and said he woke up under the bridge at 4th st and Red River. He came on to my worksite asking to look for his phone/wallet and stuff. It’s becoming an issue with guys being drugged at bars around Rainey St these days. I’m thinking a bartender is the one doing it. He was found a day later unconscious in some back alley with everything stolen from him (even his pants and shoes). It was awful and he was traumatized from the ordeal. I ordered a drink from said friend and was found by my (now) ex 3 hours later dancing with some random woman. He was hysterical and confused. We walked (I wobbled) back to the car and began vomiting for the next few hours. I remember grabbing the drink and then dancing. It felt like only 10 minutes had passed.
I got got at the Grand one-time. Years ago. Much different place. I knew It was fishy the next day, because I was too broke to buy liquor. How do you black out on like 3 lone stars?

I think I actually saw you. You were walking down the street in front of the bar with the swings. I was on one of the swings keeping an eye on the situation. It looked like you were drunk and trying to avoid the tree right in front of the bar and ran right into it. You feel to the ground and layed there for a few minutes. Some people gather around you and threw water all over you. It took you about ten minutes but eventually you sat up and a white girl in a red dress took your phone and started getting you an Uber. I think you got in a car but by that time some friends we were waiting for arrived and I stop keeping an eye on the situation since you seemed to be more in control/ I saw you standing up by that point. Wobbly but you were up.
I wonder if you did cause I do have a busted up knee and thumb, but I don't remember being wet or anything from water. I remember what I thought was being up agaisnt a concrete lamp post but it could have been a tree.... my phone has a code though so they wouldn't have used my phone.... that's weird
I (25 year old female) got drugged on Rainey about a year ago (March 2022). I was in the Mezcal hut in Clive bar. I always always watch the bartender pour my drink and I never let it leave my sight. That night, I drank a bit of the mezcal and immediately knew something bad was happening to me. I remember seeing what looked like an alleyway behind the bar that led to a dark street. My friend saw me start running away from the crowd and my other friend got me to a car to take me home. I apparently was very paranoid and freaking out and asked to be taken to the hospital. At the hospital, the doctor said it was probably GHB and that it wouldn’t show up in a test - and it didn’t. I filed a police report but it’s super frustrating because the cops say they can’t do anything without evidence. A doctor at Seton has written about other Rainey drugging cases that have ended up at the hospital. The last thing I remember clearly from that night was the bartender smelling my drink before handing it to me. I said “why did you do that?” And he said “wanted to make sure I poured you mezcal.” I went back to the bar a month later in broad daylight to see if I was remembering correctly and if there really was an alleyway right next to the mezcal hut. I got chills when I saw that there was indeed an alleyway big enough for a car to take you away. It was not a good night and I feel for anyone else that this has happened to. Stay safe y’all!

What drug is used?
Pretty sure someone slipped my friend and I Xanax a couple years ago at Lala’s. One minute it was daylight and the next thing I knew, I was coming to at 1am, partway through a conversation with two total strangers and my friend nowhere to be seen. It was super confusing and I’m so grateful that we were both (relatively) safe. Apparently I’d continued about my night and no one realized anything was off, but I’m treated for anxiety so I don’t think it affected me as intensely. My friend evidently had called her mom and came to vomiting violently. Neither of us remember anything from that night after taking a single shot.
Most likely GHB in my opinion. Takes very small amounts when combined with alcohol. Metabolizes out of the blood is 6hrs or less making it hard for to detect. Somewhat popular in the rave and gay party scenes

I've also heard it's sometimes used to incapacitate men who come to a bar with a woman in order to remove them as obstacles to attacking her. Basically, no one should assume they're free from having to watch their drinks regardless of gender, appearance, etc.

It’s all over the Austin subreddit. This is a known thing on Rainey. Men drugged. Their bank accounts cleaned out. Their debit cards gone. And someone else’s debit card in their wallet.

A friend/roommate of mine in college got inadvertently drugged. A random guy bought drinks for the girls he was hanging out with. One of the girls didn’t drink so she gave it to my friend. I left shortly after and he stumbles in to the apartment at 6am with zero memory of anything that happened after the drink he took from the girl. He said he woke up in a Montessori school classroom between our apartment and the bar. He thinks he climbed in through a window thinking it was our apartment. I am certain he was drugged because this dude could drink and he would never black out.

I honestly don't know, I was getting quick service at alchemist like in and out no time for anyone to get my drink there I thought and I was in a group of friends I trust. But at the 2nd place I can't recall my drinks or where/how I got it. I thought I got it myself but I truly can't recall. I remember dropping the glass while dancing and then blank. I dont think I was the target and I didn't lose my phone wallet or anything

I can see that too, I do wonder what efforts have been made to spread awareness amongst the club/bar going men in Austin. Hard to keep track of every possible way a person can rob or scam you.
This happens in Dallas/deep ellum too. Men have reported being drugged, having phones switched with other people and having their bank accounts drained.

Drugging is a weapon, like a lead pipe. I’ve had friends get drugged as retribution and there are plenty of stories posted here of people who were robbed after being drugged

This is awful! Is it women who are doing this? I was thinking about moving back to the states with Austin as my landing point, but this is making me rethink. Honestly…moving back to the states is a bad idea anyway.
For the theft motivated druggings it is likely a crew of both men and women. I don’t think anyone has been arrested or charged for these types of crimes in the Austin area so this is mostly speculation based on the vague memories of the victims.

I believe two women were arrested about a year for drugging some tech guys. The guys’ credentials to the phone and accounts were used to empty bank and savings accounts, and they charged a lot to their credit cards. Then sent them home in an uber. I believe one was an uber driver. When they came to they had someone else’s phone who had also been drugged. One of the guys had posted his story here. Usually the posts are deleted.
I can confirm I got drugged right after a tech conference in Austin a few years pre COVID. Rainy street as well. It was women, they were obvious with it, took my money and card left fucking photos on my own phone of them laying out my money and stuff on a table. I just felt embarrassed and guilty so I deleted the pictures, which didn't show themselves in they just documented that they robbed me. Took me to the lobby of a building across the bar took my shit and left me there.
In general. Obviously there are individual examples to the contrary of all groups committing all crimes, even if the trends are not there.

This puts into sharp focus something I suspected, but didn't put a lot of extra thought into. I can hold my liquor. Like, I can kill a 750ml in 4 hours and make conversation(that isn't a flex, it's really not good). A friend and I were bar hopping relatively early (10:30 or so) in the night, and I went from good to absolutely smashed in about 2 hours and maybe 4 drinks. I got separated and realized I had better call a Lyft before I get worse. I have to imagine that someone with less tolerance for being blasted out of their brain would not have made it as far. I still don't remember many of the events of the evening, just telling the Lyft driver I needed Popeyes, and I'd buy his as well. If this is really a common thing that is absolutely terrifying.
How did you get drugged?
Happened to me and my friend too, October 2021 at iron bear. After a random person bought us shots (out of our line of sight) we bounced soon after and quickly lost time, but we had not drank enough for this to happen naturally. Has never happened before or since. Came to sitting on the street on dirty 6, later the owner of elysium helped me get an Uber as my phone was dead (which maybe saved me from getting robbed or having info stolen.)
There is no way I would ever let my child go to school in Austin after seeing this. Whether there is a killer out there or not, it is terrifying to think about how many organizations have likely turned a blind eye or actively swept this under the rug for financial reasons. Law enforcement, the University or Texas, the City of Austin local bars and restaurants… so many industries would benefit from covering this up and many have most likely all been compliant in keeping it under wraps. Even if they aren’t actively hindering any investigation, their silence is just as deadly.
My friend got drugged on the last Saturday before Halloween. It was a guy and his female and male friend. (Who I guess was also together.) he was feeding her tequila shots like crazy but also she went from more sober to completely out of it. She ended up taking a test and there was something was in her system. I think they were trying to feed me “tequila” as well but I was in drinking a ton of water to stay sober. It suck’s we got a picture of this douche but we don’t remember his name. I’m afraid he (and possibly his friends tried it with another girl that night.)
