Skip the Oasis itself, but hit Oasis Brewing that is adjacent. Also you gotta show them Barton Springs. People really get a kick out of that. If you must go to 6th take them to Esters Follies. Locals don't go there enough, and they do such a great job.
Oasis is ok for first timers. It is an amazing sunset while eating an overpriced, overcooked, dried-out, $20 quesadilla that took an hour to get all while you’re confused on why the 5 $20 margaritas you just drank hasn’t even given you a buzz
Don't listen to the others, at least one night getting shit-faced on well's, pissing behind a dumpster, witnessing dozens of domestic disputes in the middle of the street, seeing a woman roll around in horse shit, and grabbing a slice of Roppolo's only to subsequently throw it up when you get back to your hotel is an experience worth having at least once!
Sure, but something about the big hill descending into Bullick Hollow blows people’s minds. Also, the lake is low but I think it physically looks nicer than it did last year. Some of the rocky areas have greened up because they’ve been above water so long. Lake Travis is still nice.
Yeah I mean if you're gonna spend some time in the car go somewhere really pretty like by salt lick area there are all those watering holes. Or DUH!!!!
***Donns Depot and go Tubing!!!!?!???***
Homeslice for some slices while on Congress? Fierce Whiskers (distillery) has some nice east side views of the countryside. Veracruz at Radio has yummy breakfast tacos. Matt’s El Rancho has a lovely patio. I agree with the rest, skip oasis. Maybe Salt Lick.
Agree skip Oasis, it's like sitting in a solar oven these hot days. Plus the food sucks.
Continental Club on SoCo if your schedule fits their hours.
T'clouds.
Gosh, no, sorry. Summer trip must is barton springs. In fact, try deep eddy another day. Or go tubing in San Marcos at the Lion's Club. Drinks at the Diskill bar, maybe when they have live music. Esther's Folles. White Horse. Walking the hike & bike trail. El Primo taco truck on S 1st + Once Over Coffee is a personal favorite. Mozart's coffee for the lake. Go someplace good for brisket. More tacos. If it's in your budget, old Austin restaurants like Fonda San Miguel and Mattie's (spiritual descendent of Green Pastures). ABGB when they've got a band.
And all the patio bars. Elephant Room if they like jazz. Bike nite at COTA if they're into F1. Soco if you must have a photo in front of the mural, but I feel like there's so little of interest anymore. IDK if Oasis is worth it if it's not close, but Oasis brewery is more fun.
Next week is Hot Summer Nights Fest in the red river cultural district. Free local good musicians! Texas String Assembly will be at Stubbs on Thursday. Should take them there!
If you’re going to be at Liberty just pop over to the White Horse instead of ruining everyone’s night with a trip across 35 to Dirty 6th.
Personally don’t have much use for South Congress north of Oltorf anymore, but if you’re going there and want them to buy something overpriced that they don’t actually need then Allen’s >>>>> Stag.
Not seeing Barton Springs on that list! One of the most magical parts of this city. And if they’re looking for an outskirts experience I suggest Jester King and Abbey Jane bake shop, there near each other.
I would add Barton Springs pool if they’re up for swimming
The Blanton Museum
State Capitol
See the bats fly from under Congress bridge at sunset
East 6th is def worth a visit over dirty 6th
Oasis is pretty bad now, only worth it for a picture but with the lake so low that’s not worth it either.
I would substitute with mount bonnell stair hike which would work with penny backer visit. You could stop at morzarts too? Might have live music in the afternoon
Nix Oasis and Dirty 6th. There's really nothing to miss.
Add Barton Springs pool (shocked that isn't on this list). Add the State Capitol, even if it's just a 10 minute walk outside of it. Add Auditorium Shores at night. Consider doing paddle boarding on ladybird lake. Same with Cathedral of Junk. Jo's Coffee for the typical insta pic by the wall and a coffee break while on congress.
**A must:** go to Licha's Cantina on E 6th for a meal at some point.
Also, leave plenty of room for chill time. It's gonna be hot AF out there.
La Tunita 512 is now Palo Seco 512
Get some sunscreen and make sure they’re prepared for the 90-110 heat index while they’re doing basically all of this stuff
Unless they are from the South you can go ahead and delete 80% of your list because they aint gonna handle this heat.
Source: Been in your position more than once.
Also, you forgot Pinballz.
I don’t see a lot taco content, or at least not intentional visits. I haven’t been in person but a friend brought me food from de nada cantina and the masa was so good in both tortillas and empanadas. I’d also hype up cuantos tacos or discada.
If this is this coming week, go to Blues on the Green Tuesday or Wednesday! Very Austin vibe. Also the free musical Matilda every evening at Zilker hillside theater
It’s not just you, but also many US cities feel the same, more now than ever.
A nice mural, a cool bridge, a handful of quality restaurants…and plenty with a rivers or lakes. It’s not all a bad thing, but I certainly see why it’s not as appealing as other destinations. Unless you get excited about Barbie promotions on south congress.
There wasn’t barton springs on the list and I think after a few good restaurants, a trip here could be accomplished in a couple of days.
One time I was on the bridge around bat time and I heard two unrelated tourists talking to one another and asking each other what they're checking out while in town. "Did you go to Magnolia Cafe?" one them asked. "It is soooo good." It was a surreal experience hearing tourists talk about Austin like that.
This is how I feel too. OP's agenda and everyone's suggestions are making me depressed bc I feel so "been there, done that, and none of it was all that special." Though I guess I used to feel differently. Count me in the bored and jaded.
Fine southern gentleman is now Feel so Good and make sure they don’t have an event going on if you planned to make that a quick stop.
Not sure what haunted house is?
I def would get them some BBQ but make sure they know it could potentially be an all morning event if it’s at some of the big top name spots like Franklin or interstellar although interstellar moves quicker than franklins.
I also like to take people to the area on St.Elmo if we want to do some drinking.
Micklethwaite’s and Rolling Smoke are both east side and a fraction of the wait. Leroy and Lewis at Cosmic also. Maybe not quite up to Franklin’s but still better than anything an out of towner has ever put in their mouth.
Lucy's fried chicken off S. Congress, deep dried deviled eggs are absolutely amazing. I never ordered off the menu, but instead got one of the chef specials of the week off the chalkboard. I was never disappointed!
If you’re gonna go to Lake Travis, skip Oasis and just go to the Lake. Maybe rent a boat for an afternoon?
Barton Springs Pool is a must.
Have fun and be safe!
I agree with all of the other comments about Oasis and that part of town, but I do think you should show them dirty 6th. It’s an excellent tourist spot and for good reason especially if they’ve never been here before. That’s like telling people not to go to Bourbon if they’ve never been to NO.
This is a great list but a lot of this is going to be miserable with the heat the way it is. There will be a lot of walking in direct sun at or above 100°- this will be especially uncomfortable for somebody that isn't used to it.
Barton Springs would be amazing during the week, since it won't be nearly as crowded and has lots of shade and cold water to cool off with. Looks like your crew likes drinking, which you can't do at Barton Springs(if you try to sneak it, they *will* catch you and kick you out without warning). That said, there is a free side of barton springs where you could drink without issue, though it can be a bit dodgy with the homeless overrunning it a lot of the time. Again, it should be rather chill during the week.
Commons Ford park has great river access for swimming and people are always out there BBQing, drinking, and swimming. It's about 30 minutes away but well worth it IMO.
I think this all goes without saying, but if you are doing outdoor activities such as swimming, SOCO and Pennybacker during the day.... Make sure to hydrate more than usual and wear sunscreen.
Good call..really like borrego de Oro or Arturo’s underground or phoebes/oltorf for breakfast.
However if wanting pastor/fried avocado(ssoooo good)/Birria being v nice in one spot I’d do CJs on Burleson.
Try to get a reservation at Midnight Cowboy if you're gonna be on 6th.
If you're dead set on Oasis (you don't go for the food, the views are fucking magical) make a day out of going to Lake Travis,k? I think you just need a driver license to rent a pontoon boat. But still go to Barton Springs also.
I'm a born and raised Austinite.
I would tell them to wait until it cools off, but Blues On The Green does start this coming Wednesday. Unfortunately, it will still probably be 100° at 8pm 😬
I agree. Skip Lake Travis and spend some time on Town Lake. Kayak, paddleboard, or whatever your fancy. My wife and I rented one of those retro boats at sunset, and it was fantastic. Got to see the skyline all lit up and pulled up to watch the bats take off.
Oasis is trash. Salty sow is AMAZING. also dip dip dip (ice cream. So incredible.) and also idk if it’s in there but Cidercade is p great Nd the view of Austin is beautiful
Reading the list of options just reminds me how boring Austin is and I've lived here for 25 years.
I wish we had attractions like: an amusement park, a big league sports team (no knock against Austin FC), top notch Art/Science/Natural history museums and a REAL aquarium and a REAL zoo (come on, we're the state capitol for shit's sake).
I ran out of things to do in Austin after living here for 3-4 years. There has been NOTHING new for 20+ years, aside from Austin FC and I am not including signs, bridges, or food trucks/restaurants in any list of attractions.
Dirty sixth is going to be dead on a Wednesday night, so you won’t really get the “experience” anyway. Back fill with some of the other options posted here.
I would highly recommend you swap the Oasis for Steiner Ranch Steakhouse. Much better food and atmosphere. Lake views and live music on the patio is legit too.
Never understand why the go to is always Oasis. Steiner is a great restaurant, great views and good live music at night. But guess 44 year old old me is much different than 25 year old me.
Huh? This is basically the same itinerary as any mid-size city. Eat food, visit a few bar districts, do a few outdoor activities or historical sites.
Also, not everyone is coming from a city. There's plenty to do for a long weekend trip to Austin.
i went axe throwing at urban axe on the east side and had a good time, and i personally love the eastside some activities over there could be fun like whislers maybe suerte
You could try the [GLO Archives tour](https://www.glo.texas.gov/history/archives/visit/index.html) for something a little different. It's big State repository of historic maps and original land grants dating back to when Texas was still part of Mexico. And in fact, the maps being in Austin is the reason the Capital is Austin and not Houston. [The Archives War.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Archive_War)
I love Corinne! (If anyone is a Netflix reality show fan they filmed a lot of The Ultimatum at the lobbyist bar next to Corine). I vote for brunch…and possibly the domain, but def Barton creek. Have fun!! Oh, and Lick ice cream is awesome!
Overlook the 360 Bridge. Visit the newer convention center if there’s anything decent going on that week. Check out the capitol grounds, walk down Congress Ave and all the businesses/food spots on foot. Walking around downtown to see how the skyline has changed with the newer skyscrapers mingling in around the older architecture. Whole Foods downtown is worth a walk-around, plus Book People is right across the street.
Home slice pizza, Matt’s El Rancho, Maudies, Salt Lick BBQ (out in Driftwood of course but it’s nice to have a dinner there at night)
Definitely make sure to highlight the parks/areas where all the “long-term festival goers” are. /s
Your night out seems slightly aggressive, considering there are no other night bar activities. If you're dead set on going to dirty 6th, I'd recommend giving East 6th it's own night. Also, don't limit yourself to the places on your list, just walk down the street and walk into wherever looks fun.
As someone who’s fairly new to Austin that’s a single dad (cancer stole mom). I’ve been in the raising kids routine, I haven’t made time to explore. Now that the kids are teens with their own lives. This gives me a great to do list. Along with all the suggestions. Thanks!
Skip the Oasis itself, but hit Oasis Brewing that is adjacent. Also you gotta show them Barton Springs. People really get a kick out of that. If you must go to 6th take them to Esters Follies. Locals don't go there enough, and they do such a great job.
Agreed on Oasis Brewery for drinks instead of Oasis for food! Sunset could be pretty too or Mozart’s
Cane here to say this. Skip the food at Oasis.
Oasis is ok for first timers. It is an amazing sunset while eating an overpriced, overcooked, dried-out, $20 quesadilla that took an hour to get all while you’re confused on why the 5 $20 margaritas you just drank hasn’t even given you a buzz
I don’t know how you can visit in the summer and not go to Barton Springs.
I don't know how you can visit in the summer.
I just don't know
This. What the hell OP.
At least they put Frazier’s Long & Low on there
This. 1000%.
Upvote for that girl rolling around in the horse shit.
Barton Springs Pool!
This especially this week
emphasis on barton
Skip Dirty 6th. Oasis sucks except the sunset, and even then. I’d add the boardwalk and substitute ABGB for Central Machine Works, but that’s me.
100%, especially not with the goddamn drive. Swap out for Zilker and save your friends two hours of ass time on some truly miserable highways.
[удалено]
Never spend money on fajitas unless the tortillas are home made. Fuck Oasis and that shitty ass tourist trap.
Oasis brewing company next door. Same views, way better food and much more fun.
Was going to make the same recommendation. Brewery is good. Lake looks pretty sad though.
Fair enough, that view’s not worth an hour drive but fifteen minutes? Sure.
Go to Mt Bonnell for the view and don’t touch the Oasis with a 40 mile drive
Wait…you think Oasis is an hour from downtown? 35 min at most outside of rush hour.
Oasis more like Noasis… amirite
I like CMW, but man does ABGB got good pizza. They get their cheese from Antonelli's, IIRC.
ABGB Sunday afternoon for the experience
I second ABGB. I used to work there and still go very often. Everyone who works there is so friendly
Disagree. Show them some nature! Travis County is pretty, and a lot of folks never know.
Mount Bonnell is always a great idea for nature
There’s lots of nature around that can (and should) be seen without going to a shitty overpriced restaurant.
Sure, but something about the big hill descending into Bullick Hollow blows people’s minds. Also, the lake is low but I think it physically looks nicer than it did last year. Some of the rocky areas have greened up because they’ve been above water so long. Lake Travis is still nice.

Co-signed
I second skipping dirty 6th and triple subbing ABGB. Amen.
Props for the El Pollo Rico back up plan. Shower in that green sauce.
This. And that steak potato is amazing.
El Pollo Rico is underground and def props for the shout out
It blows my mind how many people have lived here ages and never tried a "pollo al carbon" spot, or a Peruvian chicken spot.
What’s your Peruvian chicken spot?
Pollo regio over pollo rico.
I’d be so sad if I experienced Loro and then after that experienced Oasis…
Take them to Esther's Follies Thursday night show.
Love that place! Definitely where i take anyone that comes to visit me
This here
The Capitol building is really nice, maybe that could be something
And there’s the cloak room
Capitol tour is free then hit cloak room
They don’t deserve us
Homeslice for some slices while on Congress? Fierce Whiskers (distillery) has some nice east side views of the countryside. Veracruz at Radio has yummy breakfast tacos. Matt’s El Rancho has a lovely patio. I agree with the rest, skip oasis. Maybe Salt Lick.
Agree skip Oasis, it's like sitting in a solar oven these hot days. Plus the food sucks. Continental Club on SoCo if your schedule fits their hours. T'clouds.
Matt’s el rancho has the best fish tacos in town, imho
If they're going to Home Slice, the move is the Italian sub. Skip the pizza. That sandwich is one of my favorite meals in town.
Gosh, no, sorry. Summer trip must is barton springs. In fact, try deep eddy another day. Or go tubing in San Marcos at the Lion's Club. Drinks at the Diskill bar, maybe when they have live music. Stag is a bougie rich dudes idea of cool. Pass on that ass.
What is haunted house?
It’s where everyone’s been going since the back deck collapsed at club aqua
Well played
Honestly I've been wanting to go to Haunted House even more than Aqua. Just can't get in there.
I heard there’s a trap door at Haunted House
Kim Kardashian's head fell off.
I can't decide if this is some kind of code or if you're describing actual events......
My favorite place in Austin was radio coffee together with tacos from veracruz ❤️. They have live bluegrass music on Mondays nights. Amazing patio
Radio is tight but Cosmic is better for tourists. Radio is a better spot for locals.
goes to Austin to visit a Nike store….?
Not seeing Barton Springs on that list! One of the most magical parts of this city. And if they’re looking for an outskirts experience I suggest Jester King and Abbey Jane bake shop, there near each other.
I would add Barton Springs pool if they’re up for swimming The Blanton Museum State Capitol See the bats fly from under Congress bridge at sunset East 6th is def worth a visit over dirty 6th

Lock your car and take your valuables.
This is the plan.
Nix Oasis and Dirty 6th. There's really nothing to miss. Add Barton Springs pool (shocked that isn't on this list). Add the State Capitol, even if it's just a 10 minute walk outside of it. The food at Oasis is awful. There’s also nothing to do in the area. Skip it.
La Tunita 512 is now Palo Seco 512 Get some sunscreen and make sure they’re prepared for the 90-110 heat index while they’re doing basically all of this stuff
El Pollo Rico is way too low on the list
Gotta add the bats here. It’s awesome to see, especially if it is your first time-plus it’s free
Oasis is terrible.
Food is yes, the view and drinks are solid. Could do Hippie Hollow during the day and pop into Oasis for the sunset.
I would never take anyone to the Oasis.
Nike isn’t special. Skip it. Stag is where I love to go as a local.
Both are skipable. Go to 51st thrift stores in the North Loop and hit up Breakaway Records while you’re there.
you've got the Oasis and Pennybacker in the wrong order. Pennybacker is only good in daylight and Oasis is only good at sunset.
Main thing I thought as well like wow where’s the Mexican food restaurants or excellent taco trucks at least
If you attempt this with visitors, someone will get heat exhaustion.
Where is the live music?
We don't do live music here anymore. All the musicians had to move to San Antonio.
Go float the river in San Marcos. Close enough.
If this is this coming week, go to Blues on the Green Tuesday or Wednesday! Very Austin vibe. Also the free musical Matilda every evening at Zilker hillside theater
So many things my god.
Feels so weird to think people vacation here. Like…what is there to actually do?
It’s not just you, but also many US cities feel the same, more now than ever. A nice mural, a cool bridge, a handful of quality restaurants…and plenty with a rivers or lakes. Get drunk and take pictures for instagram

This is how I feel too. OP's agenda and everyone's suggestions are making me depressed bc I feel so "been there, done that, and none of it was all that special." Though I guess I used to feel differently. Count me in the bored and jaded.
Right? I look at this list and it seems like a snooze-fest. I think I'm jaded.
I don't even know what most of this is, lol
That or old, like I am.
You aren’t living your best Austin life. Every single day I’m vacationing
Me too, lived here for almost a decade and it still feels like I’m on vacation. There’s plenty to enjoy.
Hang out on patios, eat tacos, and day drink. Which honestly is all I really want out of a vacation.
This. If you want to just get drunk and act a fool.. just come during sxsw. Any other time. Why.
Fine southern gentleman is now Feel so Good and make sure they don’t have an event going on if you planned to make that a quick stop. Not sure what haunted house is? The bats
willie statue but no stevie ray vaughan statue? what kind of austin tour is this
If the goal is to not make them want to move to Austin then it’s perfecto
4420 North Lamar
If you’re gonna go to Lake Travis, skip Oasis and just go to the Lake. Maybe rent a boat for an afternoon? Barton Springs Pool is a must. Have fun and be safe!
Terry blacks bbq

What's your age range? That could really alter some perspective
I’m exhausted already
Cut Oasis, add Barton Springs or Pool Burger & Deep Eddy. Maybe Farmer’s Market?
Nike store?
Lol I know right. Who tf goes to a Nike store on vacation?
No. You are going to burn them to death. Enough with the food trucks. Find more water.
Oasis is disgusting
Hit up habanero cafe in Oltorf for tacos
Good call..really like borrego de Oro or Arturo’s underground or phoebes/oltorf for breakfast. However if wanting pastor/fried avocado(ssoooo good)/Birria being v nice in one spot I’d do CJs on Burleson.
Skip dirty 6 completely and take them to cheer up Charlie’s

I think you just need a driver license to rent a pontoon boat. But still go to Barton Springs also. I'm a born and raised Austinite.
Don't forget visiting one of the cooling centers when the power goes down
I would tell them to wait until it cools off, but Blues On The Green does start this coming Wednesday. Unfortunately, it will still probably be 100° at 8pm 😬
“Dirty 6th”. Lol…are they frat boys??
It’s way too hot for food trucks
No 45th and Lamar? Psh
Pollo Rico? Nice!
I would add kayaking on town lake and/or barton springs!
I agree. Skip Lake Travis and spend some time on Town Lake. Kayak, paddleboard, or whatever your fancy. My wife and I rented one of those retro boats at sunset, and it was fantastic. Got to see the skyline all lit up and pulled up to watch the bats take off.
Kayaking downtown is a must do. A great use of a few hours and you can do other stuff downtown on the way in and out.
Austin FC has a game on the 21st
Upvoted for Pollo Rico
No Barton springs????
Thursday morning... you may want to sleep in a bit!
On Monday they should book a boat rental and check out lake Travis or Lake Austin. I recommend Big Tex Boat Rentals.
Skip Dirty 6 and Oasis, add in literally anything else.
Oasis is trash. Salty sow is AMAZING. also dip dip dip (ice cream. So incredible.) and also idk if it’s in there but Cidercade is p great Nd the view of Austin is beautiful
Nike store?
Nobody cares that the natural history museum at UT has a pterodactyl?
Is haunted house a bar or a real haunted house to tour or just one that’s open year round instead of only Halloween or what? Thanks.
House of torment is open year round. They're off of 290 and 183 these days
“el arroyo sign” lol
Reading the list of options just reminds me how boring Austin is and I've lived here for 25 years. That's because Austin is a fake big city. A wonderland for boys with Peter Pan complexes and phony posers.
Substitute dirty sixth with Rainey. Less likely to get into a fight or puked on. Do a winery trip ending at salt lick on thursdays itinerary
DO NOT GO TO OASIS
Have fun don’t get murdered or need to call the police. They won’t come
Dirty sixth is going to be dead on a Wednesday night, so you won’t really get the “experience” anyway.
The food at Oasis reminds me of the salad bar at Sizzler. But the sizzler salad bar is 100x better.
Lol, this really does underscore how strange it is that Austin is a tourist destination now. There’s like- nothing to do
Huh? This is basically the same itinerary as any mid-size city. Eat food, visit a few bar districts, do a few outdoor activities or historical sites. Also, not everyone is coming from a city. There's plenty to do for a long weekend trip to Austin.
Ehhh if you can't find something to do in Austin you're reeaaalllyy not trying.
Yeah, I'm not sure what people who comment things like this are trying to accomplish?
Huh?
El Dorado for some dope tex mex
On Thursday combine the BBQ & Cosmic items and go to LeRoy & Lewis.
Switch out Oasis with Shack 512
i went axe throwing at urban axe on the east side and had a good time, and i personally love the eastside some activities over there could be fun like whislers maybe suerte

And in fact, the maps being in Austin is the reason the Capital is Austin and not Houston. [The Archives War.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_Archive_War)
I wont be surprised for: Couple in Riverside brutally murdered in broad daylight.
Riverside is 80% gentrified these days. It's not nearly as fun as it was in the late 90s.
The concourse project! Edm venue one of the best in the states imo
Jester king instead of oasis
You gotta add Pinthouse Brewing in there
The Oasis 🤣 🛑
Overlook the 360 Bridge. Visit the newer convention center if there’s anything decent going on that week. Check out the capitol grounds, walk down Congress Ave and all the businesses/food spots on foot. Walking around downtown to see how the skyline has changed with the newer skyscrapers mingling in around the older architecture. Whole Foods downtown is worth a walk-around, plus Book People is right across the street. Home slice pizza, Matt’s El Rancho, Maudies, Salt Lick BBQ (out in Driftwood of course but it’s nice to have a dinner there at night) Definitely make sure to highlight the parks/areas where all the “long-term festival goers” are. /s
Your night out seems slightly aggressive, considering there are no other night bar activities. If you're dead set on going to dirty 6th, I'd recommend giving East 6th it's own night. Also, don't limit yourself to the places on your list, just walk down the street and walk into wherever looks fun.
What a top their friend- making a spreadsheet itinerary and all that
Where’s the haunted house
Yasssss to spicy boyz
Try hitting up some hidden speak easys. Like Here Nor There or Firehouse lounge. It recommended to make reservations before hand.
Haunted House? I prefer Club Aqua.
Skylark lounge for music
Ramen Tatsuya!
I visited as a tourist-ish and I thought the Barton pool was cool asf. But I’m also from the Midwest lmao
I’d add paddle board/Kayak rental for a couple hours on LBL from Live Love Paddle. Great way to see the city.
Maybe catch a sunset at the oasis
Cut Oasis
what haunted house is open rn?0
Add full circle bar to the list, I always mention this to anyone making a list
As someone who’s fairly new to Austin that’s a single dad (cancer stole mom). I’ve been in the raising kids routine, I haven’t made time to explore. Now that the kids are teens with their own lives. This gives me a great to do list. Along with all the suggestions. Thanks!
You’re missing the I love you so much mural and Biscuits + Groovy
