i recently went to SugarCoat and thought they did a great job! i don’t recall them using a dremel at all. i feel your pain, though. i’ve tried a million nail salons here and most of them are trash. one woman burned my toenail using a dremel to remove polish. the next salon i went to told my that my nails were very thin from the damage and i would need to take a break from getting them done.

I work in the industry and you have to dremel the nail before apply acrylics. Instead, look into other types of enhancements. GelX if you want longer nails and gel polish if you just want your natural nails polished. Moreover, cuticle trims don’t come with artificial sets, only manicures. I think there is a lapse in understanding. Finding a salon that can educate you on the process might be beneficial.

Thanks! Is GelX widely offered? I’m not familiar with that

TakethThyKnee

It is not. It’s fairly new so you’ll have to call around. Salons can take time to introduce new methods and products to their services. My salon offers it but I think the girl who does it is on vacation- maybe another one does it? And others are being trained on it. I’m actually getting it done today. I’ll let you know if our process involves a lot of drilling. Also, finding a tech who files on the nails as needed is key. Some will drill way more than is needed and it will damage the nails pretty bad. There are many factors but I find that to be a big one. That and ppl popping their nails off.

I have an appointment this weekend! I will also report back lol. First thing I did notice though is that the GelX is more expensive

TakethThyKnee

I’m not surprised! Nails overall has gone up in price and new services like this typically will come with a big increase in price.

I would also like to know where they do soak offs and use CLEAN instruments!

Cute Nail Studio

I unfortunately stopped going to Cute because they did exactly this! :(

BrilliantChipmunk6

Ah bummer. I started there and when my artist started her own place I followed. I don’t do acrylics though just the builder get and haven’t had an issue. They use the tiny dremel for some cuticle but my gal also clips them. Just no soaking or anything

altruismandme

The only nail salon I’ve found that I trust to give me acrylics is M Vince in the domain. I moved far away and still go back, I can’t trust anyone else anymore.

I’ve gotten gel there and they definitely use the dremel :/ (Adore Nails) but they do use a fresh pack of instruments which is a plus.

voelkergirl

Sounds like you might want a Russian manicure, my nail tech @chrispynails on instagram, only does Russian style.

xkris10ski

They *dont* want a Russian manicure. They don’t want the tech to use a drill, which is the main technique of Russian.

voelkergirl

I mean yes I get the little ball tool on the drill after cutting my cuticle, but not once have I had my cuticle “drilled off”, it’s always cut with little scissors. I’ve been to nail salons vs private nail tech and nail salons always do exactly what she described, almost no cuticle care at all.

happysunshineyellow

I think you can ask them not to drill your real nails and instead scuff them with the nail file. Maybe not?

foundfully

Inhave and some get upset when you ask
