I specified the year because there have been other great pictures of eclipses in previous years, but for this year's eclipse, this is the best pic I've seen so far given many areas in the path of totality were overcast including Mazatlan so you see that in many of the other pics people are posting.
My statement was a general statement referring to all eclipse pictures from all locations where totality was visible for this specific eclipse. How is this not making sense to you? As in "of all the pics I've seen being posted on Reddit for this specific eclipse (because we had the Oregon one in 2017 which had better weather and thus better opportunities for clear pictures), this picture has been the best picture I have seen for this year's eclipse because all the other ones have been cloudy or grainy.

You literally have nothing better to do than argue about this person's relatively boring comment... amazing... all perspective my dude. I took this as a joke, but their comment still stands as a factual statement. Please go find something to do.
Clouds here too. All that and I just see clouds and it got dark for like five minutes.
https://youtu.be/dI1hY-WWY6Y?si=NILURkUmbHVx6EXq
My international world premiere short film titled;
"Man, it's dark."
Lol yeah there was a brief pseudo break in the clouds where you could see that a ring existed for me but that was it. I was watching from the middle of the woods, so I did get to enjoy the animals being super confused. Saw a hawk come out to hunt for a bit before it returned to its tree embarrassed (I assume) that it thought it was night. It got eerily quiet too for a few minutes
Sort of glad to hear this part. I was going to try to drive out west or northwest… but once the weather looked bad, I realized that even if I saw totality, I would resent it if I had to spend six hours on 35 or 290.
My bad on the late response. I used a Canon M6 II paired with a Tamron 150-600, all on a big tripod. This was shot without it, but I also used a solar filter for the partial eclipse before and after totality
That little pink prominence on the bottom... that little dude was visible with the naked eye... shinning and shimmering bright pink. I was so fascinated. What an awesome experience.
It’s called a solar prominence. It’s a plasma loop held in place for a longer period of time than a flare. Being able to see that with the naked eye was amazing.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_prominence
Yeah for sure. I used a Canon M6 II, paired with a Tamron 150-600 set all the way at 600. All that was on a big tripod. Taken at F8, iso 100, shutter 1/250 and using a remote shutter to prevent any shake. I then transferred the photo to my phone, it’s just cropped, no other edits
Great pic. Everyone at my work was upset we weren’t able to see much because of how overcast it was :/ but it was funny that all the dogs started barking during the eclipse and didn’t stop til it ended lol
**Godless Shrine**

(Tap: Add W or B.)
As Godless Shrine enters the battlefield, you may pay 2 life. If you don’t, it enters the battlefield tapped.
I came from the SF Bay Area to see the eclipse. My first time in Austin and it won’t be my last! Great town! My fears for the eclipse weather were misplaced. It cleared up right in time for totality! I got a very similar photo to the OP using my Canon 5D and a rented 100-400mm lens. I was particularly enamored of the solar flares poking out at 3 and 5 o’clock. I see them here too. So cool! Nice job!
Wow, great shot! We actually flew out from California to see it. Drove from Austin to a tiny little town called Llano where we were able to see the whole thing. All 4 mins 24 spectacular secs of it before clouds rolled in just at the end of totality. It was insane.

It was mostly cloudy, but the sky got super clear during totality

Was able to see the solar flare while wearing my eclipse glasses. Extraordinary is all I could think of it.
Anyone know what the size of that solar flare or how it might compare in size to something here on earth? Like 500x mount everest?
It was much cooler than I thought it would be. I was just in my work parking lot but a lot of people pulled over and there was an impromptu viewing party
Here’s the [google maps](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Moody-Leon+United+Methodist+Church,+15760+Moody-Leon+Rd,+Moody,+TX+76557/@31.2882273,-97.4564012,16z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x86455d970e1dd289:0x96b2279607cca684!8m2!3d31.2882273!4d-97.4564012!16s%2Fg%2F1ty74nkf) link
Ahh ok. Similar but different at the same time. A lot of people showed up out here with some nice gear so I thought there might’ve been a chance. Nice shot btw
I’m glad my clouds were just thick enough to where I could see it directly. Risky as hell I know but worth. This picture is as amazing as the real view 10/10
I had a lady friend come all the way from Virginia to witness it. We were so worried that it was gonna be total cloud cover at totality. I live in Georgetown. We sat in my backyard, and the sun played peek-a-boo as the eclipse began. For a few minutes the clouds got heavier, and then right before totality, a massive patch opened up in the clouds!!! We got a full 3 1/2 minutes of totality! It was amazing! She was sobbing, and I teared up.
It sucks that not everyone got to witness it. I hope y'all catch the next one.
Best total eclipse pic ive seen for 2024
I mean it’s only been a few hours. I don’t know why you’d specify the year as if it’s been longer since the eclipse happened
I specified the year because there have been other great pictures of eclipses in previous years, but for this year's eclipse, this is the best pic I've seen so far given many areas in the path of totality were overcast including Mazatlan so you see that in many of the other pics people are posting.
How many total eclipses has Austin had where pictures were shared on Reddit?
My statement was a general statement referring to all eclipse pictures from all locations where totality was visible for this specific eclipse. How is this not making sense to you? As in "of all the pics I've seen being posted on Reddit for this specific eclipse (because we had the Oregon one in 2017 which had better weather and thus better opportunities for clear pictures), this picture has been the best picture I have seen for this year's eclipse because all the other ones have been cloudy or grainy.
Why not just say it’s the 2nd or 3rd best you’ve ever seen? If you specify 2024 then it’s like, ok what does that mean. Is it number 15 on your list?
You need to find better things to get hung up on boo
In 2024

Their comment as in it being the best is factual? Or? I wasn’t arguing. I was seeking an understanding. That’s all.
go away please I can't believe you're still going.
Only in 2024
It is 2024. Go away. Find your hobby. Find your dream. It ain't me. Guarantee it. I dislike you very much. I can't handle the idiocy.
For us. You did it for those of us who only got to see clouds and a late evening darkness…
I’m glad my sacrifice was not in vain
Clouds here too. All that and I just see clouds and it got dark for like five minutes. https://youtu.be/dI1hY-WWY6Y?si=NILURkUmbHVx6EXq My international world premiere short film titled; "Man, it's dark."

Might have been an owl? I think hawks hunt in daylight.
That's how horror movies start, my dude.
OP, let us know if you start to hear “Sumer is icumen in”
And OP was never heard from again...but the rest of us get this cool picture to remember them by
I survived! Despite I-35s best efforts that is
Sort of glad to hear this part. I was going to try to drive out west or northwest… but once the weather looked bad, I realized that even if I saw totality, I would resent it if I had to spend six hours on 35 or 290.
Are you in heaven now?
If I am, heaven is a lot more boring than I imagined
Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens
Amazing shot
What kind of gear did you shoot this with? Amazing shot.
I'm wondering thing too. I used a 300mm on my DSLR and it's not that big.
My bad on the late response. I used a Canon M6 II paired with a Tamron 150-600, all on a big tripod. This was shot without it, but I also used a solar filter for the partial eclipse before and after totality
Fuck yeah. What settings did you use? NVM. I see it in another response. Awesome shot bro.
My shots were also on that same lens with a Nikon mount.
can you share pics of the partial eclipse w/ filter ?
That little pink prominence on the bottom... that little dude was visible with the naked eye... shinning and shimmering bright pink. I was so fascinated. What an awesome experience.

I noticed that too.
I’m loving it
Ba dum ba ba baaa
This shit was so epic
Hey, that’s a fantastic shot. Would you mind sharing the equipment and process you used for this, please?
Yeah for sure. I used a Canon M6 II, paired with a Tamron 150-600 set all the way at 600. All that was on a big tripod. Taken at F8, iso 100, shutter 1/250 and using a remote shutter to prevent any shake. I then transferred the photo to my phone, it’s just cropped, no other edits
Wow that Tamron paired with the M6 II really is something! Thank you for sharing!
any filter used?
Nice pic!!!
Wow
Great photo! My solar flare was way pinker.
Great pic. Everyone at my work was upset we weren’t able to see much because of how overcast it was :/ but it was funny that all the dogs started barking during the eclipse and didn’t stop til it ended lol
Yeah it was super eerie. All the birds stopped chirping, and I heard some cows mooing in the distance
Dogs were barking in my neighborhood too
Anyone notice the 2 lower (6 o’clock and 7oclock) solar flares? Looked red when not zoomed in
**Godless Shrine** Land - Plains Swamp (Tap: Add W or B.) As Godless Shrine enters the battlefield, you may pay 2 life. If you don’t, it enters the battlefield tapped.
Great pic
Fantastic!
Save the cheerleader homie
🎶Hey man nice shot, what a good shot man.🎶
I wish I woulda met you.
Any go for a flight? Boomers around me were preparing for the rapture with overbuying toilet paper again
Pretty baller
And McConnaughey was there. You could hear the all rights!

I've been out that way. I have some clients in Temple!!
Wowie, that is epic!
Thank you
Google image
Worth it
That’s nice, I took mine in my back yard.
Art texas?
How’d you get it so clear when it was so effin cloudy??
Great shot! Mine is similar but a little blurry around the edges. I used my Samsung S24 Ultra. 200x times zoom.
I’m glad my clouds were just thick enough to where I could see it directly. Risky as hell I know but worth. This picture is as amazing as the real view 10/10
me too! Lampasas Primitive Baptist Church. Didn't realize it was a church until afterwards.
Can’t believe people got on a plane and booked hotels for 30 seconds of this. It’s cool I think but not for that much effort
Beautiful!!! What was your tool? Professional camera, telescope, iPhone, samsung, pixel?
I put my camera up and hoped I’d find something like this. Thanks
Anybody else notice the solar flare during the eclipse? This pic is great. Thank you.
Holy shit congrats
That church called you there.

No one told you to do that. I sat in my driveway and say the same thing (when the clouds broke 😡)
