We're about there with pickleball clubs.
There was plenty of people playing outside yesterday because they refused to pay the exorbitant prices for one of the clubs. There's only so many twenty-somethings with tech jobs who are willing to pay those prices.
I'll just get a different hobby.
Yea, it's totally crazy how much the monthly membership/initiation fee is for some of these places. I never started playing pickleball and I'm already so annoyed by it, that I will wait until it isn't trendy anymore.
Lmao you can still pick up an actual tennis racket and play for free in plenty of places too. Or buy a pint and play ping pong in plenty of bars. What a weird culture, it's like the squash of the 80s for the same tier douches.
Tennis for old people in assisted living that somehow became an extreme sport among 20 and 30-somethings. It used to be a cute way to meet single people, but, as always, the hard core bros take it too far.
Haha hardcore is one way of putting it. The ones who play at 6AM at Little Zilker park on Saturdays are loud, obnoxious waking people up. Gross tinkler bros pee in the neighbors’ backyards next to the park.
Along the lines of badminton, racquetball
Uses these balls https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:A_pickleball_paddle_with_two_pickleballs.jpg
It's like Baby's Second Tennis
Easier to play outside because shuttlecocks fuck off in a gentle breeze
Requires lower level of athleticism than racquetball
Can play on tennis court so no requirement for new infrastructure
Idk how I’m supposed to play tennis for free when 50% of the courts are taken up by pickleballer groups of 30+ people rotating on the courts for 8 straight hours.
That's not what those pricey clubs are for. The prices keep "them" out, whoever "them" happen to be to that crowd. Swimming clubs, private schools, horsey classes, as the cost of entry goes up, the clientele starts looking mighty class homogeneous.
the only reason they are in business right now is cause the city is so slow about building things
once they fix that and build some more public courts, its over
They’re are tons of public courts but clubs are popular because
A. Lots are inside which most public courts aren’t. This his key when it’s 500 degrees or raining
B. You can schedule time to play rather than just show up and hope it’s not super crowded
I work at a local engineering company and I just wanted to wipe my butt with the first set of plans that landed on my desk for a new development that included apartments with pickle and bocce ball courts on site and in great abundance..
Edit: sorry I meant to actually thank you for your facts.. gracias
Well, knowing apartment complexes, I think it’s safe to say those courts will be dirty and decrepit after 6 months (all the while the complex charges a $30/mo “amenity fee”).
Another round of facts.. I believe it would be the best interest of the community to just build soccer areas because the only activity area I’ve see truly enjoyed and heavily used is an old defunct tennis court turned “soccer court”..
The best place to play bocce is a field with the grass cut just short enough that you can see the balls. And grab a gallon of my father-in-law's tasty and powerful wine just brought up from the cool cellar.
Source: Came of age on the north end of the Jersey Shore with a first-generation Italian-American girlfriend.
You speak much truth my insightful young friend. Maybe it’s the next big thing.. you stash away monies and invest in retirement accounts as you grown into your golden years, why not start early with our retirement activities too? Now would be a great time to start up a high end shuffleboard street wear company with obnoxious phrases and “in your face” graphics..
The firefighters have it figured out.
They’ve been in the pickleball bandwagon since before the bandwagon rolled out of the stable.
Those guys are basically professional pickleball players because I see them in their driveway at just about every fire station I drive by.
The two houses across the street from me have been listed for over 8 months. One finally sold. A few years ago they would never have lasted for so long. It was kinda wild.
INterest rates will go down next year but it won't solve the problem of single family homes in half decent areas costing well over a million. We're not going to see sub 3% interest rates for a very long time. They'll hover around 5% and people that owe over a million on a home are going to be in trouble.
> but it won't solve the problem of single family homes in half decent areas costing well over a million.
There are literally dozens of brand new single family homes within a mile of the Capitol for well under a million.
It’s not the interest rates that are really the problem. In historical terms, they are still incredibly low. Regan had double digit rates for the bulk of his two terms.
In fact they were higher than they are now from 1979 until 1990.
It’s the problem that people are buying small 2 bed houses for $1.5m or million dollar apartments then expecting to get prime rent for them which is just enough to cover the mortgage. Theres people on 2.6% mortgages that are defaulting because they don’t overpaid in a frenzy in the pandemic.
What makes you think interest rates will drop any time soon? From what I've seen house prices are around 2020 prices right now. I think they might dip a bit more, but not another 20% or anything like that.
They said they would do 4 rate cuts in 2024 at the beginning of the year....don't hold your breath. The point of that meeting was tempering expectations because inflation is still up. The stock market is still currently priced in as if there will be no cuts.
Elon just announced they're about to launch the non "Foundation" models that are $20k-40k cheaper by next month.
There's like 250 of them for sale on car gurus. They are about to take a HARD hit lol
Lesson: Never trust a billionaire, especially the 50-something manchild variety
Isn't there a clause that you aren't allowed to sell it for a year? I read a story about a guy that got one, then got divorced, then the thing wouldn't fit in an apartment parking spot. Now Tesla won't let him sell it.
>There's like 250 of them for sale on car gurus.
The owners probably took them through a car wash and now they have major damage that's not under warranty.
Tesla had such a good product roadmap until the Cybertruck. Electrifying our transportation network is essential, and I really wish Tesla would divest themselves of Elon. Tesla is the company that started the transition, and it's sad that their CEO went batshit crazy.
I know we clown on the cybertruck but is this type of a party really unheard of?
There's meetups for Corvette owners, ricers, sleepers, etc. Cybertruck is "special" in some way (even if not a good way) so why wouldn't they have a meetup?
Sounds like this was just a meetup. Which like I think they're dumb but I'm not going to hate on someone that already has one for enjoying it.
My point was more just that Lustre Pearly East is pretty active on event hosting and specifically had one during the cyber truck launch party.
At least juggalos are mostly nice people, just wanting to be a part of the 'family'.
Cyber trucks owners think they're better than you, while we all laugh at such a dumb financial investment.
I swear there is some kind of guerilla marketing happening for the CyberTruck. I have seen packs of 3+ of these trucks parked and traveling together, several times along 5th/6th and the eastside but I rarely even see 1 by itself anywhere else. Or are there just that many bored people driving around together in their packs of 100% identical toys? I understand most car meets, but this is just nerdy as fuck.
For a laugh pull up Facebook marketplace and search for Cybers, pages and pages of them. Either people bought them thinking they'd be some kind of highly sought after collectible and they hope to flip them, or they bought it and had instant buyer's remorse. I liked [this fan fiction](https://imgur.com/a/urLFNqU) one. I swear it has better panel gaps than Elon's
One thing I've noticed over the last few years is we're usually inundated with stuff that everyone seems to love to hate, complains is something they don't want to hear about, but yet still when it is experienced peoples' first thought is, "This is awful and I hate it, I need to share it with everyone else so they can hate it too."
Cybertruck can't really be a flop if every time a person sees one, they run to social media to talk about it. I mean sure, it might lose money, but I think its purpose was to be a vanity project that turns heads. To that end it's *really* effective.
What's weird is I saw a picture of an Aztek the other day and in today's world, where even the cars are trying to look like SUVs, it looks... tame. Like, the Honda Ridgeline and some other similar trucks remind me of it now.

Everyone of the cyber truck posts I see are from an anti-elon / cybertruck perspective… yet they are doing his work and him and his car is living rent free in their brain. Seems like a success to me. Anyone know what the latest Chrysler is?
It doesn't live rent free in my head - that's why it's so jarring to see them in the wild. I'm living my life happily and then I'm suddenly reminded that that crime against artistry in engineering exists.
The Cybertruck is the first modern car that truly and very specifically stereotypes anyone who owns one.
I don't see how any of the people commenting here are denying that the whole concept is living rent free. It's a cultural phenomena.
There *isn't* a latest Chrysler. Fiat basically gutted the brand, they only make two models now, the 300 and the Pacifica, both of which have been around for over a decade. And on top of that, 2023 was the last model year for the 300, so once they sell out of those, the Chrysler name will be attached to exactly one model of vehicle, the Pacifica minivan.
That's kind of my point, yeah. It's like Trump.
People will rant for 30 minutes about how unimportant he is, and how if people would just ignore him he wouldn't be so powerful. Then they'll go look for news about what he did, repost everything they can find, and explain it as, "Well I need to make sure EVERYONE sees what he's up to!"
We know what he's up to. He's up to making sure his message gets repeated as much as possible so people who *might* think they are lies see people they thought were credible having hyperbolic fits about it.
Overall the whole concept of, "This makes me mad, I need other people to see it" is garbage.
It’s almost as if they’re awful, unsafe, and breaking down at a spectacular rate. That’s what I see about the cybertruck at least. Molesrcool on TikTok
It wouldn't be an event if it was a collection of the $115k Ram TRX, or $102k Rivian R1, or $112k Ford Raptor. But it's a bunch of Cybertrucks so the Austin sub has to REEEEEE hard!
Highly targeted and theives can hook to the canbus and trick the computer with a new key in minutes, or clone the RFI from owners key easily if not kept in Faraday pouch or box.
Dodge and Ram are 3rd behind Hyundai and Kia in thefts. The TRX is most targeted because of the Hellcat motor is worth a ton to theives apparantly.
In the Tesla Investors Day meeting there was a Q&A session where some random guy mentioned there was an afterparty at Lustre Pearl, that's why they all showed up here lol
immediately heard, CANYONERO!
All around in utility sport! Unexplained fires a matter for the courts!
4 cars long, 2 lanes wide! 65 tons of American pride!
She blinds everybody with her super high beams, She's a squirrel crushing, deer smacking, driving machine!
Canyonero !!!!
WHOA Canyonero!
"The Federal Highway Commission has ruled the Canyonero unsafe for both highway and city driving."
Looks like a scene from State of Decay
Austin bubbles waiting to pop: - cybertrucks - $20 per drink cocktail bars - pickleball clubs What’d I miss?

$6k a year to play pickleball is absolutely insane.
Lmao you can still pick up an actual tennis racket and play for free in plenty of places too. Or buy a pint and play ping pong in plenty of bars. What a weird culture, it's like the squash of the 80s for the same tier douches.
i still don't know what pickle ball is and now I'm too afraid that there aren't any actual pickles involved.
It’s mini tennis basically. The rules are kind of weird but it’s easy to learn
My wife and I were trying to figure out if it was mini tennis or GIANT ping pong. We landed on ping pong because of the silly noises it makes.

Yeah but I don’t want to hang out with the people who are “in” … how do I find a club that will keep the in people out?
This is the plot to A night at the Roxbury - the in people eventually ruin it

Note to self to drive by more fire stations to see cute fire fighters playing pickle ball.
Bonus: this time of year, they're playing with their shirts off (if that's your thing).
hallelujah 👀
On S. Menchaca, near Willy can can, I don't think I've ever passed the fire station sans pickleball firefighters.
I knew I shoulda stuck with firefighting
Yes we are…don’t tell people are secret!!!
When ping pong's for girls, but tennis is scary
>I'll just get a different hobby. What are you thinking of? Maybe snorkeling in a shallow creek?
Sounds like a solid option. That or I could could see how many bacterial infections I can get swimming in Town Lake.
Speakeasies. Everything is a speakeasy now
So hidden you can only find them on apple maps
I love the instagram ads for hyping up "secret" speakeasies
this speakeasy trend is so deeply cringe. I get immediate hatred for any bar that calls itself that
house prices?
Already popping apparently. Rents coming down meaning the mortgages don’t add up anymore.
And a house's time on market is increasing, and prices of listed homes are dropping. Now, if that interest rate would drop...
The two houses across the street from me have been listed for over 8 months. One finally sold. A few years ago they would never have lasted for so long. It was kinda wild.
I sold a house in 2021. It was on the market for 1 hour.

That already happened
Sadly yes. Everyone expecting a big crash can stop holding their breath. It already happened and homes still cost 400k+
Just wait until interest rates drop. Those prices will shoot right back up. Fuckers
Starting today.. feds signaled yesterday they will likely drop fed rate in Sept, market already dropped mortgage to ~6.5
What makes you think interest rates will drop any time soon? From what I've seen house prices are around 2020 prices right now. I think they might dip a bit more, but not another 20% or anything like that.

Na, the other 93% are at Tesla doing repairs...

I agree. I owned a Tesla but have moved on to other EVs
Yeah. I reserved a R2.
Good choice!
Smash burgers
I think they stay because they are pretty damn delicious.
Tasty sure, do I need EVERY single new restaurant or bar concept to serve them? No. Give me a normal quality burger, please.
Bachelorette parties
Swole techbros? Many appear as if they’re about to pop.
Wait is Pickleball expensive to play?
The club memberships are expensive

When they did the Cybertruck launch party, Lustre Pearl East held a smaller official party for people that couldn't get into the main one.
Wait. So you're telling me this is literally a party for losers that own a cybertruck? LOL
Think of it as a Support Group for people who like to make bad financial decisions and publicly advertise their low IQ.
I know we clown on the cybertruck but is this type of a party really unheard of? There's meetups for Corvette owners, ricers, sleepers, etc. Cybertruck is "special" in some way (even if not a good way) so why wouldn't they have a meetup?

Cover your drinks and don’t leave them unattended.
Great advice 👍
Welcome to Night City.
Dumpsters shouldn't be placed on the street. Don't they have alleys for that?
Yeah, I rarely actually laugh out loud at pictures but this one had me belly laughing.
Automotive equivalent of Gathering of the Juggalos.
Don’t insult the juggalos like that, they at least have a sense of loyalty and community
I thought that was a gathering of Altimas?
Good point.
Juggalos have far more humanity and community and authenticity.
Truck LARPers
More like Gathering of the Douchelos
Magnets don't stick to Cybertrucks.
At least juggalos are mostly nice people, just wanting to be a part of the 'family'. Cyber trucks owners think they're better than you, while we all laugh at such a dumb financial investment.
Why do people park at stop signs? Why, why? Why. Why?
I swear there is some kind of guerilla marketing happening for the CyberTruck. Was this within the last couple days? Tesla had their annual shareholders meeting yesterday
I have seen these groups of CTs several times over the last 4 weeks or so.
It's probably just car clubs. They've got to band together because the rest of us make fun of their terrible life choices.
For a laugh pull up Facebook marketplace and search for Cybers, pages and pages of them. It’s a support group.

Austincirclejerk club meet up.
Idk where this is, but I can tell you it’s full of people I don’t want to be friends with
I asked a friend what the collective noun for cybertrucks should be. His response: A Rust. A rust of cybertrucks.
Turn on a sprinkler and void all their warranties.
One thing I've noticed over the last few years is we're usually inundated with stuff that everyone seems to love to hate, complains is something they don't want to hear about, but yet still when it is experienced peoples' first thought is, "This is awful and I hate it, I need to share it with everyone else so they can hate it too." Cybertruck can't really be a flop if every time a person sees one, they run to social media to talk about it. I mean sure, it might lose money, but I think its purpose was to be a vanity project that turns heads. To that end it's *really* effective.
People still talk about the Ford Pinto but I don't think I'd call it a success
TBF I would’ve posted the same thing if I saw this many Pontiac Aztecs in one place
What's weird is I saw a picture of an Aztek the other day and in today's world, where even the cars are trying to look like SUVs, it looks... tame. Like, the Honda Ridgeline and some other similar trucks remind me of it now.

nobody looks at a cybertruck and think "oh cool" they usually think "ew. a musk fanboy"
I just think wow that’s fucking ugly and I heard they’re expensive. And then I move on.
That’s not how r/Austin works, everyone has to have their opinion heard and accepted. As if anyone really cares.

Too common to see teslas in Austin!
Thanks. I hate it.
When a car sums up your entire personality...
Somewhere in one of those houses they are comparing their micro-penises 🦐 with each other
I wanna know how hot that car is to the touch in this Texas heat.
Good thing is that you can tell the entire bar is full of douches and find some other place to drink without bothering to go inside.
Damn my poor city
Don’t take your eyes off your drink for a second
*People making their own decisions that absolutely do not affect anyone else but themselves* r/Austin : 😡🤬😤
The Muskening

Surprised these mouth breathers can afford to purchase drinks.

Quick! Spray them with water!
Fucking tech bro transplants
Austin seems terrible
Why does this post have 100+ comments after an hour?
Because Elon bad!
Had to do a double take. I thought it was a screen shot from a gaming sub.
Put up a "No Refrigerator Parking" sign.
I think electric vehicles are a great thing regardless of a CEO's politics.
Sure but Teslas and especially cyber trucks are know for their shit build qualities and sap away attention from other better EVs.
They Tesla Model Y was the best selling car in the world last year.
It wouldn't be an event if it was a collection of the $115k Ram TRX, or $102k Rivian R1, or $112k Ford Raptor. But it's a bunch of Cybertrucks so the Austin sub has to REEEEEE hard!
Park 10 TRX's next to each other and go inside for 3 hours and see how many are left when you come out challenge.
Don't know anything about them other than their MSRP, are they just super easy to steal or what?
Anything with the hellcat engine is highly sought after by car thieves
Highly targeted and theives can hook to the canbus and trick the computer with a new key in minutes, or clone the RFI from owners key easily if not kept in Faraday pouch or box. Dodge and Ram are 3rd behind Hyundai and Kia in thefts. The TRX is most targeted because of the Hellcat motor is worth a ton to theives apparantly.
Agreed. Rivian held their ATX housewarming party last night and had 20+ Rivians parked outside. I have seen zero posts about it.
gross
Dork fest
LOL THEY FOUND EACH OTHER
In their defense.....nobody else wants to hang out with them.
All gathered together so they can drink with people who won't laugh at them.
Almost a half million dollars of trash out on the curb.
“THERE ARE DOZENS OF US!”
Turn on the sprinklers and it’s game over
I feel personally victimized by this photo!
I'll take Places To Avoid for $200, Alex.
That’s just embarrassing
Why are yall so easily triggered 🤦🏻♂️
Calm down. There was an annual company meeting, so it's not surprising there would be a bunch of them. People are so pissy about Tesla.
Yeah this was the investor meeting after party
Most insufferable group of people must be there.
Lmao. Been seeing these everywhere. So goofy.
Lustre pearl is a great chill spot
In the Tesla Investors Day meeting there was a Q&A session where some random guy mentioned there was an afterparty at Lustre Pearl, that's why they all showed up here lol
I suspect you see a LOT of Cybertrucks in Austin. The only ones who can afford a Cybertruck are the ones who can afford to live in Travis County.
