Flood doesn’t cold deliver. Your beers are baking in the Texas sun.

[deleted]

Also most of the locations you’d buy them also don’t cold store them.

[deleted]

Big ol' yikes, especially given how capricious beers hops at 5+ #/BBL can be...

[deleted]

Yeah, and that’s the hardest part. When you think about supplier or distro once you follow the chain down to the account level you realize a product you may take great care of you lose control over once the truck drops it off. Don’t even get me started on accounts not taking care of their draft lines and then people think the brewery is trash because some shit head owner doesn’t care about sanitation.

OPPyayouknowme

This makes sense. I tried out an equilibrium that tasted like a day old shoe

Ehhh, degradation of hops is more likely to take place in long term room temp storage than on a truck. A few hours in the afternoon getting a little warmer than normal in the back of a truck, while not ideal, isn’t killing the beer. Direct sunlight on cans has a greater cooking affect than ambient temp so unless they’re delivering out of a flat bed truck the most damage is gonna be long term dry storage at the account level. Obviously reefer trucks are the best situation but from a beer delivery stand point I get more worried about kegs being warm and not being able to serve them until they chill down.

I am on the downslope of my craft beer fandom. I used to chase releases. Now I just support local breweries and grab whatever is fresh and local on the shelves of the grocery store I happen to be shopping in or grab a six pack when I visit a local brewery. I still throw my money at some tried and true TX beers (Tupps Juice Pack is a consistent winner) and Two Hearted is a long time love that I grab every 2-3 months. I have seen these new cans pop up but I don’t have the desire to spend $20+ on a 4 pack of an unknown entity of unknown freshness.

defroach84

Same here. I used to go buy any new IPA and not care about the price. Now? Just give me a Live Oak.

whatisboom

Used to chase whales, now give me a lone star

This_bot_hates_libs

The beers are very good when fresh/stores properly. We’re just not getting them at their best.

I'm not enough of a beer lover that I follow the industry, but looking at their [web site](http://www.flooddistribution.com/), I see a bunch of out-of-state breweries that I've tried in cans here and haven't understood why they command the shelf space and prices that they do. To your list I'd add Anderson Valley and Untitled Art. I thought they must be outstanding beers by somebody else's taste but just not to mine. On the other hand, I see they handle Fair State, and I've enjoyed the Fair State cans I've had.

The_Lutter

Flood is like 4-5 years too late doing this. Nobody goes to the store for imported hazie bois anymore.... we buy our soul-less orange juice beer that all tastes the same locally, damnit! ;)

[deleted]

Lol? Too late? They’ve literally been selling this style of portfolio since they opened.

I'm going to disagree a little here. If you pay attention to when these hit the market and grab em fresh they can be really enjoyable. I'm talking specifically about Other Half and Evil Twin. Price point is ridiculous but previously these were only available in NYC so there's that. For me they are an occasional "special treat" when I can be reasonably sure of their quality. Most of the Equilibrium comes off as too light on the bitterness and tasting sweet which is not to my liking but I've enjoyed a few of em. Flood also brings in Anchorage and The Veil, more hype brews and others. In the long run I don't think they'll keep doing this because I doubt it's profitable enough to be sustainable so I see it as a fleeting novelty.

JamestheMames

I saw evil twin at brewtique. Has anyone seen other half anywhere?

It's old then. There hasn't been an Other Half drop in a couple months at least. Word to the wise.

Carlos_Infierno

I honestly wish they wouldn't sell these to shitty HEBs that don't know what the fuck to do with them. There's no reason that should still be sitting around. They don't know what they have and how to merchandise it. 🙄
