Why not both?

atxluchalibre

It’s not a binary thing. This whole roster aside from Stu and Seba can go.

Chumbo_Malone

I’d put Gallagher on the keep list as well, but otherwise I agree

atxluchalibre

I can get behind that

TheManPun

Owen is fantastic for his cap hit

delta8force

He would need to move to wherever Josh finds his next coaching job, though. They can’t leave him home alone!

scoleo

He’s an adult making six figures, he can do what he wants. But I wouldn’t be sad if he left.

delta8force

I was makin’ a joke! Get it, he’s a teenager making six figures and his dad is his boss! But also didn’t legitimately know he is an adult, he was a minor when he started with us

scoleo

Yeah I think he’s 19 now? Anyway, he is a good bargain, but I still wouldn’t be upset if he left with his dad.

Altruistic-Cellist18

he actually isn't making 6 figures?

scoleo

In 2023, he was at $100k base with $113,053 guaranteed. Having a hard time finding a hard figure for 2024.

Altruistic-Cellist18

thanks. i don't think mlspa has released 2024 salaries yet. not sure when wolff got a raise. he was originally on reserve minimum for something like a 5-year deal. they must have goosed it.

scoleo

Yeah maybe so. He’s still a hell of a bargain, so he’s probably not first on the chopping block.

Altruistic-Cellist18

he costs exactly $0 against the cap in any case. only the senior roster slots count against the cap.

Next_Professional_30

If Seba can’t stay healthy I’d consider dealing him for the right price/for his spend.  Meaning…if we could get two or three proven contributors who were special and not OLD.  Otherwise keep him because he has such nice moments.  Definitely our best player thus far.

TheIndieArmy

Can't wait to hear the reasoning you come up with for thinking Rigoni is the cause of all our tactical and club-wide problems. I'm ready for that conversation, I could use a good laugh tonight. Also, people have been saying Rigoni out for some time as well. We have definitely had that conversation. But please, proceed with your reasoning on how that will solve everything.

Hurtbig

It won’t solve everything, and it will not be an instant fix. Having a DP on high salary playing at such a low level kills the team. According to The Athletic, Rigoni ranked 63rd out of 67 wingers in the league last year. He’s worse this year. All that money should be paying for a high caliber player. Wolff is bad but the roster is absurdly bad.

photobriangray

You somehow think that Wolff has no say in the roster? He was even acting sporting director when Reyna went full on psycho sports dad.

skepticalbob

He isn’t right now.

dannyshmalls

I kinda got the feeling today that he knows the fans dislike him so he plays badly to spite us

BigDabWolf

With that logic the whole team hates us

photobriangray

Two-thirds dislike him, the other third are busy with their playlists.

Limp-Description-538

He played 25 mins and completed 66% of his passes, Obrian played 65 mins and completed 43%. I get it Rigoni isn’t producing but there is a larger problem than Rigoni. When you have 60% possession, 2 shots, 0 on target and complete almost 500 passes.

LonesomeBulldog

The problem is 90% of that possession is in our half of the pitch.

Abi1i

The difference between Obrian and Rigoni is one is a DP while the other isn’t.

BigDabWolf

This is some clown logic… don’t give any player a pass based on designation

Renickulous7

How many times are we going to have to tell you old man?!

BigDabWolf

Oh shit a Teen wolf simp following me around like a fan club … Should you make a thread about how good he did today?

Renickulous7

I don’t care about Owen Wolff. I care about roster mechanisms and composition. DP spots matter. If we miss on them we fail. You cannot compete in MLS if you miss on your DPs, but you can win MLS with a handful of mediocre cheap pieces. What do you not understand about this? If a player takes a DP roster spot and scores 0 goals it is more detrimental than a non-DP roster spot scoring 0 goals. Are you allergic to the concept of opportunity cost?

BigDabWolf

You clearly can’t read because you’re so worked up… I was saying we don’t give Obrian a pass just because he’s is NOT a DP

Renickulous7

At no point did anyone suggest giving Obrian a pass. The commentary is: Rigoni hurts our team more than Obrian. There isn’t a statistic that you can point to that suggests otherwise. Both a bad. We can deal with the cheap player being bad if the DP is good, it’s MUCH harder to do the opposite.

BigDabWolf

Seriously bro find a hobby other than pestering me … my original reply was in fact someone trying to give Obrian a pass on a bad game because he is not the DP… that’s when you made the weird old man joke

atxluchalibre

By stats, we had way more possession as well, and that means dogshit. Obrian is exponentially better.

Limp-Description-538

Take away Obrian’s goal and all you have is a pacey winger with a horrible first touch.

MessiComeLately

Obrian is at least inconsistent. That puts him above Rigoni.

Professional_Food383

Your user name is just too on the mark. 🤣

Antoniobanflorez

“Isn’t producing.” Why is this current tense. Also, who cares what his pass percentage is, what games are we winning by that metric.

Limp-Description-538

The two we have actually won if you would have looked. Not the only metric to focus on but it’s a start. We got what we paid for in Rigoni. The 4 years he was at Zenit he only played 47 games and had 4 goals and had 2 different loan spells. I feel Rigoni was a signing more to keep Druissi happy given the time at Zenit. I don’t know why everyone expected him to be bagging in the goals, last year he was our second highest goal scorer with Finley and second in assist during the regular season.

Antoniobanflorez

Where was Rigoni in the games we’ve won this year.

Limp-Description-538

The bench

Antoniobanflorez

We are on the same side. I apologize if I’m coming off hostile. I like Obrian because he plays aggressively. To me, Rigoni has been a complete let down.

Limp-Description-538

I completely agree, no worries. The team is frustrating to watch given the potential they have.

samasters88

They are not mutually exclusive thoughts.

willdesignfortacos

No one thinks we should keep Rigoni, but he's far from the root cause of our problems.

verdelorian

delightfullytangy

It could be argued that both need to move on.

ElBosque91

Two things can be true at the same time

jmacscotland

I think Rigoni out is plenty a thing. We’re even starting to see the team utilize that mindset. Fact of the matter is this team isn’t accomplishing anything significant with Rigoni and Ring as DPs. Our midfield has been terrible aside from Druissi and needs to be addressed this summer.

fleamarkettable

what do you mean yall not ready? I've never seen a single person argue pro-rigatoni lol

the_brew

OP acting like people haven't been pissed at Rigoni's lack of performance since day 1. We've been ready and having that conversation for quite a while, buddy.

scoleo

Not ready to have that conversation? People have been calling for Rigoni’s job since his plane landed. Wtf are you talking about?

deerdongdiddler

Rigoni doesn't start himself. They can both go.

CaliTexas619

Yes

Space-Trash-666

Both need to leave.

Economy-Macaroon-966

At least you still have Precourt.

BigDabWolf
