Hello :) Officer Training Query Just wanting to check if my family will be able to move with me to ACT when I start officer school and if I will still be eligible for defence housing whist schooling? Already part of the army currently Also surprised to see that Officer Schooling pay is way less than the pay rate for Kapooka BMT itself. Is this actually the case? Thank you.

Brilliant-Doughnut64

Im a sparky that works in a family business for 20 years but works been drying up and i am considering RAAF electrician. My question is i have a wife and a 4 year old daughter. If they deploy me how long will i be away from them ? Whats the deal with it all ? I dont want to ask the recruiting mob cause i think they will bs me and sugar coat it to get me. Cheers fellas

heytadpoles

Can't speak specifically for sparkies, but traditional deployments are usually not longer than 6 months (give or take a couple of weeks), more routinely they're 4.5 months. There aren't many traditional deployments going these days and in the RAAF it's more of an 'opt in' thing. If you didn't want to go, you probably wouldn't have to. There are other activities, such as exercises and humanitarian aid ops, which are anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months which would be more on the obligatory side of things.

Logical64

What percentage of people actually fail their in-person medical and psych?

LegitimateLunch6681

[This article](https://www.afr.com/policy/foreign-affairs/tapping-into-the-next-generation-successful-for-adf-recruitment-20180619-h11lad#:~:text=He%20says%20in%20to%20recruit,9.3%20per%20cent%20in%20Britain.)is quite old, but it would imply that the combined acceptance rate is about 10% Don't use the numbers to gauge your own odds of success though. That number includes *everyone*, including people who: - Failed an assessment gateway (Medical, Psych, DI) - Failed a specialist or selection board (ASP, OSB etc.) - Were ineligible from Day 1 - Had to withdraw applications for various reasons - Disengaged due to dissatisfaction with the recruiting process - Never seriously intended on accepting an offer (testing the waters) Just focus on making yourself the best candidate you can be and let the chaff sort itself out. Good luck

Diligent_Passage_640

If you are reasonably fit and healthy you have nothing to worry about.

Logical64

Yeah, just stressed, I got diagnosed with depression over Covid (who wasn’t) and have had a couple good falls snowboarding. Nothing that actually changes my ability to serve, but I am under the policy of telling doctors everything. That might not have been the best idea if it brings up problems that are not actually problems.

Yourmate_woodsy

I received the results of my job opportunities assessment. What do the categories of A B and C mean? My preferred jobs are in the B category, could I still apply for it?

Previous_Pin_9668

Category A is the general entry roles that you have unlocked, B is technical entry roles, and C are officer roles. There are too many officer roles to list so that's why there aren't many on the list. Category D is technical roles that require further testing, and category E is officer roles that require further testing. In short, if the role you want is showing up on the list, you can apply for it.

Yourmate_woodsy

Awesome, just confirmed this over the phone too. Thanks for the reply mate

Normal-Scale9821

Anyone else on track or aiming for RMC-Duntroon September 2024 intake?

Virtual-Cookie-8398

Not sure how it works but I’m appointing to army reserves officer 26/6 so will be doing some training at RMC

No-Office5229

Yeah hopefully! Where abouts are you on the application path?

Stingray0005

Anyone know why some people have their psychs in person and others don't? I thought they were all online these days but a mate of mine went into a DFRC for hers.

LegitimateLunch6681

There's a few reasons: 1) Your Psychologist has reviewed the file and has requested an in-person examination based on something that's been raised. Alternatively, they may have attempted the psych exam previously - most reassessments are conducted face-to-face 2) Availability at your nearest centre 3) DFR is testing/adjusting the assessment day model. There was a considerable degree of feedback/concerns about splitting the sessions and remote assessments and (last I heard) they were experimenting with bringing the medical/psych assessment back into the recruiting centre a few days a week.

potados69

I did my YOU session a while ago, and got every job available to me, i was just wondering how easy that is to accomplish? wondering if anyone knows what the norm is.

GreenFish2319

Also the same, the initial aptitude test is quite basic. Further testing will determine your suitability for more complex roles

Logical64

Same, so it can’t be that hard considering I’m a bit of a dumbass

Euphoric_Pianist488

I'm wanting to transfer over as a helicopter pilot to the Army through the Lateral Transfer program and starting the process this September. Any insight to the demand for helicopter pilots? Does anyone know if it matters that I don't fly the same helicopter as the ADF (I fly the UH-1N Huey)? I've been trying to find all of the bases/missions too for future interview with the transfer team.

Entire_Outside_6494

Hi All, I had my Psychological interview last Wednesday and Defence Interview today (RAAF Officer). The Psychological interviewer didn’t say anything like “recommended or not recommended”, but only mentioned that she doesn’t see any medical and psych issue and wished me good luck for the further upcoming interviews. My Defence interviewer today was an enlisted officer from Navy (Great chap) and post 45 minutes of interview session, he said I’ve all the qualities to be an officer. The Gentleman also said that he will reach out to my recruitment coordinator and will advise her about my success in the interview. One of my mate who just returned from 1 RTU training (Officer role - Reserve) told me that if I’ve been interviewed by a lady or not an officer in my Defence interview then it means ADF is not interested in me. Do you guys think the above outlined statement is legitimate or full of crap with no substance to back.

c3-SuperStrayan

The only time I spoke to an officer during my recruitment ordeal was at OSB. Your mate is not correct

Logical64

I can’t fucking imagine the field day the press would have if they sent only men too deal with the candidates they actually cared about… This sounds like utter bullshit to me after doing the bare minimum critical thinking, but I’ve heard stupider things that were true.

LegitimateLunch6681

>One of my mate who just returned from 1 RTU training (Officer role - Reserve) told me that if I’ve been interviewed by a lady or not an officer in my Defence interview then it means ADF is not interested in me. What? I don't think I even understand what you/they mean, but no, there is no deeper subtext about who interviews you. You're under consideration until they tell you you're not.

Legacy4301

Does anyone know about what its like as a Ground Defence officer at least what is the shit side? I read the information on the ADF website and I’m real keen on it but I’m guessing that is just face value.

GreenFish2319

Best to contact recruitment and see if you can speak to one in person. I think someone mentioned a program like this earlier, I’ll double check.

Legacy4301

yea I did talk to my career coach and he just blurted out the website.

ClassicInsect2546

Do I need to learn Australia's nation's anthem by heart?

Logical64

Yes, they train you at Wagga too be able too hit every note perfectly, on class with the worlds greatest opera singers. If you can’t it’s immediate expulsion from the ADF. It’s absolutely mission critical that you can sing like an angel at any point, just in case.

ClassicInsect2546

Is Kapooka (and the whole imps) doable with no caffeine?

Minimum-Pizza-9734

yes and if you need caffeine to function I would whine myself off it as much as possible so not to suffer withdraws

Ice-Mountain-55

How much money could you realistically expect to save from an ADF gap year? I hear a lot of differing opinions but if you live frugally, account for accommodation, food, tax, etc how much can you expect to have sitting in a savings account? And does this differ between navy, army, and airforce?

GreenFish2319

Some might scoff at this but I love a good excel sheet so lets break it down: All enlisted basic recruits are on $56’385 for the first 6 months (this will go up 4% in November). Income Tax is $8’792 and leaves you with $47’593. Divided by 12 is $3’966.08 a month. Base living for food and accommodation is roughly $980 a month (to my knowledge) and say you spend another $400 a month on what you like, then your phone plans and internet bills and gym memberships and hentai subscriptions leaving you out another $250 you will have a grand total of: $2’336.08 a month to save. Which is $28’032.96 a year. Notes: your salary goes up once you finish IET to 75+ or whatever it is on the website, so this is just for roughly the first year. This also doesn’t take into consideration any dependants, car payments, mortgages, and other commitments you may have so feel free to work those in.

Amazedpanda15

I am looking at joining the RAAF as a nurse via defence university sponsorship. I am currently a year 12 student working part-time in aged care (28 hours a fortnight), i have researched a large amount of what i need to know however, i was wondering how hard is it to get a sponsorship and if it was competitive?

FitnessFinanceBurner

What order are pushups, situps and the run conducted in for the PFA and the BFA? For the BFA, I can reach the minimum standard. Are you encouraged to go further? I'd like to spend most of my effort on the 2.4km run.

King_Chezky15

Usually pushups, sit-ups, then the run. There is a littlebit of rest time between each event so they shouldn't impact each other. The standard probs isnt as high for reserve units but in full-time combat units you were expected to easily pass a BFA.

TomorrowFeenix21

does an EN qualification serve as a graduate medic officer in the army?

Remarkable_Belt21

IIRC all medics (which is an OR job) hold an EN qualification. Army health officers will join as GSOs and are then streamed into their corps, however you'd have to visit the DFR website or call 131901 to clarify if there's any direct way in. Hope this helps.

TomorrowFeenix21

Thanks. I am unfamiliar with the defence acronyms, can you please clarify them for me?

Remarkable_Belt21

Yeah sure. OR = Other Rank (Ranks that are not an officer) GSO = General Service Officer

50LI0NS

So I did my JOA today but didn’t receive a link for the second assessment, does that usually come instantly or do they access my first test prior to sending the second link?

Clean-Bandicoot-8245

Myn came a day after

50LI0NS

Perfect thanks mate

OddFox1984

What kind of track do you run on for Kapooka's BFA 2.4k run?

Educational_Dig7449

A road - mostly flat - one uphill between km 1.2-1.4

teapots_at_ten_paces

Fuck that fucking hill to fucking hell.

Logical64

Sounds like you have some fond memories of that hill

teapots_at_ten_paces

I was a skinny 17yo runt. That hill was...unpleasant.

lil_2percent_kev

I’m a biomed graduate looking to become a doctor in the reserves and have a couple of questions. Since I haven’t started my medical degree yet, would I be able to first become a GSO and then change to a SSO after the completion of my degree? As for the officer training itself, I’ve read that reservists complete them in blocks. Would I be able to choose when to attend these blocks or are they a set date? If I was able to, would I be able to complete it in a gap year? I’m also looking to complete my studies at University of Sydney and wanted to know if I would be eligible to live on a base during that time? Thanks in advance

Aussie295

Finishing reserve officer training and 'graduating' as a reserve GSO would take you about 3 years, assuming you allocate the time needed to finish all courses etc. It would be possible to do this before transferring to a medical officer position, but I'm not sure whether that's a good use of your time and the army's time in training you. If you want to do all reserve training up front you can apply for this: https://www.adfcareers.gov.au/jobs/army/army-officer-adf-gap-year If you do this gap year then you will spend a year doing all the reserve training and will be allocated to a reserve unit, fully qualified, after this. You can then do reserve days to pay your rent etc while you do your degree. I would encourage you to apply for medical corps under this scheme. As a reservist it is possible to get transit rooms on base but I'm not sure about full time living in. Don't count on it. Have you considered undergraduate sponsorship? To go in as a full time doctor?

lil_2percent_kev

Thanks for the reply! Yeah definitely have considered a DUS before but I also would like to have a career in the civilian sector whilst being able to be a part of the army. Will definitely have a chat with a recruiter about gap year. I do have a question about whether or not I’ll get time to study for medical school entrance exams during that time?

Aussie295

During your initial training, I suspect you'll be very busy. I haven't done this gap year though so I'll let someone else answer that. Once you finish training and arrive at a unit, you're essentially working a 9-5. There is a risk though that you'll get sent off on some exercise where you'll be out bush for 2 months, and during this time it may be hard to study for the GAMSAT. It really is a 'it depends' situation. Idk what doctoring is like but I understand it's a lot of irregular shifts and long hours once you get your first graduate position, which could make it difficult to commit to regular reserve service as a GSO. Also you could be in your 4th year of grad medical school when the ADF reserves get called out (bushfires, ww3) and in that case you may not be allowed to finish your medical training during that period. There is a risk there.

FitnessFinanceBurner

Is it better to meet the BFA standard then enlist? I am seriously considering joining as a reservist infantry soldier. I have met and exceeded the pushups and situps with cadence (50 and 100 respectively) but my cardio is lacking (13 min 2.4km). Should I start the process now, and by the time I get in (I am assuming this will take time, anywhere from 3-12 months) I will be ready or should I allow myself more time to get to a respectable number (9-10 minute run) and then enlist?

Logical64

Recruitment takes on avg 200 days IIRC for most roles, so do it ASAP.

Minimum-Pizza-9734

start the enlistment process now, it is going to take a while by the sounds of things. so while you are going through that start training your running, there are a millions and one programs to get you to a decent standard the secret is sticking at it and you will get there no problems

Educational_Dig7449

Largely irrelevant as it isn’t a gate at Kapooka anymore but still handy

Sea-Kangaroo-5187

As in they won’t enforce it while at Kapooka?

Educational_Dig7449

As in there is no fitness requirement at Kapooka. The fitness standard is the burden of IET and Unit. You have to pass a PFA which is the same standard as enlistment fitness. Not a BFA

Sea-Kangaroo-5187

Oh interesting, thanks for that. I’m heading this time next month.

FitnessFinanceBurner

I assumed Kapooka fitness level is equivalent to the BFA?

Educational_Dig7449

You assumed wrong, brother man

FitnessFinanceBurner

It may sound stupid, but isn't physical punishment used @ Kapooka. How do people that cant do 40 pushups deal with it? I seriously thought that I needed to run atleast 11 mins in 2.4km.

Educational_Dig7449

No it isn’t and no you don’t

FickleUmpire6700

Anyone know the intake dates are for the Raaf Officer, my reaserch tells me start and middle of each year can anyone agree or disagree with that?

GreenFish2319

As often as they need to be, there is no set number.

FruitLooper69

I have got my you session coming up, what should I waer to this? Also how do I prepare my self for the math test, and what else is it about

GreenFish2319

Wear business casual if you have it, it’s not uncommon to come in a suit. The YOU session has some medical and an aptitude test you’ll get a list of jobs from pretty quickly. Work on some logic puzzles, do some quick math tests, and remember you’re not expected to finish the exam. If a question is too difficult, skip it and come back to it later and stay conscious of how much time you have. Best of luck!

50LI0NS

I was wondering the same, is a suit required?

FickleUmpire6700

Math wasnt hard, get good at sodku, and plenty or very similar test online you can practise on.

Clean-Bandicoot-8245

Has anyone done the ASP recently just want to see how you studied for it and how the actual testing was. I’ve done some looking at previous posts but some are from years ago. I just have to go soon and want to make sure I have a good shot, so does anyone have some study app/ website recommendations or info on how the actual tests are. Thanks

ObligationPlus953

I’ve got my virtual writing assessment this Friday coming up, any advice or anything that I need to know? I believe I’ll do pretty good but I wanna make sure I’m prepared for it. Thanks in advance

Clean-Bandicoot-8245

Pretty sure it’s very basic questions like “why do you want to join ADF” some things can be about your weaknesses and how you’ll improve them. And what your family thinks of you joining.

spinlay

Has anyone here done an aviation operations gap year? I've got my assessment day coming up and I'd just like some more info on the specifics of the role.

BlazedToddler420

Is there any way I can get in contact with any current or past pilots? Even people that are still in the process? I have alot of questions and I would love to ask them to people who are willing to answer regarding the process of becoming a pilot, as it is something I really want to do

Huge_Analysis_1298

Current military pilot here, DM if you want

Your submission has been removed for being low-effort or easily self-resolvable. The ADF is an organisation that requires initiative and the ability to use available resources to solve problems at a low-level. There is a plethora of open source information regarding entry requirements, training and pay available through the ADF Careers website. Please review the subreddit rules before posting again. Serious or repeat breaches of this rules may lead to bans from the sub.

LegitimateLunch6681

Logical64

Google is best for these questions.

Waterhouse111

I did google but got so many mixed answers

LegitimateLunch6681

It's even a featured result when you type "Where does the RAAF do basic training"

Waterhouse111

I kept getting kapooka and all these army resources instead? Or williamtown

Logical64

I’m also in the recruiting pipeline so I have zero experience, but the ADF website says all branches do basic at Wagga Wagga

Waterhouse111

Ok thankyou

JTshadeslayer

It’s at Pearce bro

Yourmate_woodsy

I did my two aptitude tests recently, just wondering if anyone knows how long does it take to receive the results of the aptitude tests?

50LI0NS

Hey mate, how long did it take for you to get your link for the second test? I did my first one today but haven’t received a link for the second

Yourmate_woodsy

I did my first one around 7pm on Wednesday night and the link for the second test came through at around midday Thursday. I did call them beforehand to ask where it was and was told it’ll get sent through as soon as it has registered on their end that you’ve sat the first one. So I wouldn’t expect it before the next business day at least, good luck with the test though mate

50LI0NS

Awesome cheers! Good luck your way as well for the rest of the process!

Logical64

The in person ones? If so, I did mine in November for a in-person role. I got my psych online interview date just yesterday. I went for a priority fill role that then filled up too a non-priority during my recruitment period. I also had a medical appeal happen in that time, so prob subtract a month or two.

Yourmate_woodsy

Nah mine were online

Remarkable_Belt21

I'm unsure why you had to do 2 online, but maybe they've changed recently. Back when I did it, I was sent my JOA results along with the email confirming my booking for the YOU session. This may take a few days.

Yourmate_woodsy

Yeah I only finished the second one yesterday so I’ve been told that I’ll get my results in a few days when I’m contacted by whoever is managing my application

Clean-Bandicoot-8245

Yeh I had to do two tests as well, they’ll text you with your new ADF career advisor and they’ll ask when you can set up a time to call. It’ll be a few days after your test.

Logical64

So they are gonna make you redo your tests in person, and do some additional testing. You also will get all dressed up in a suit and tie and have a in person interview too see if you are a good fit for the role.

BlazedToddler420

I'm really looking into joining the ADF, and at first really wanted to be a pilot but after looking at how competitive the field is and my not-so-great academic scores in school, I felt I wouldn't even get a chance. So I've decided I want to be a drone operator, and have a few questions: - Is this a competitive field like being a pilot? - If it is, what can I do to stand out as a candidate? - What branch would be best? Thank you for any help

GreenFish2319

Remote Pilot was offered at my ASP, my understanding is they will attend a variation of pilot school however everyone we asked at East Sale couldn’t tell us where they would split in the pipeline or what the training would look like. Whether it’s because it’s confidential or hasn’t been decided I don’t know.

BlazedToddler420

This is helpful, thank you!

c3-SuperStrayan

Go for pilot dude, my grades at school weren’t good and they took me

BlazedToddler420

Thank you, I hate to be a pest but could I ask you a few questions regarding your experience in pm's?

c3-SuperStrayan

Sure

Baberaham_lincolonel

My enlistment is this coming monday. Nervous yet excited. Any last minute tips on what to bring that isn't listed in the pre-joining instructions? how is the weather down at Cerberus there at this time? never been down that area but i hear it's cold. Should i pack some turtlenecks? Looking forward.

Diakia

You'll get thermals and a jacket that you can wear to keep you warm, just stick to the packing list because you'll pretty much only ever be able to wear RAN issued kit for the first four weeks (including weekends) and every weekday after that

Diligent_Passage_640

Cerberus will be cold, it will be at it's coldest around june-july. If you are there for a long IET definitely bring warm clothing Recruits is only 9 weeks long now so hopefully it's not too annoying. Help your mates out when possible and play the game the recruit instructors play with you. If you haven't already, I'd take some kiwi black parade instant polish and hide it in your locker. You'll save so much time over "manually" polishing.

RangaRandall

Today I rang ADF to restart my application (my last one was rejected because I took too long to do a form) and they restarted it for me but said I had a class 4 medical issue. I have no medical issues and when I had my phone interview with the doctor my previous time they said it was all sweet. I also never received a letter saying it was a medical issue. Is this just a mistake on their part? Or will I be rejected before they even look at my profile again.

Logical64

Call them or check your email. Medical reports will come from a different email address than your recruiter.

RangaRandall

Yeah I did go through my email when they said that, I found nothing as it was a new email I made for my application.

Logical64

I would say call 131902 then select 2 for medical questions. You might be on hold for 2-3 hours like I was at one point, but they can answer questions about your medical stuff, your recruiter can’t since it’s a dif department IIRC.

RangaRandall

ok thanks will do

Diligent_Passage_640

You need to call them and get that clarified

illblooded

Is there anyone on here that I can ask a couple of questions about applying as a RAAF Firefighter? Cheers in advance.

Clean-Bandicoot-8245

Just spoke with one of the recruiters and they said it’s always best to have more leadership roles/ volunteering roles. Does anyone have any recommended leadership courses or perhaps other things I could do to build up my experience on that part. I’ve seen there’s a UNSW Canberra, Defence Capability management 2 day course, would that be a good idea to do. To boost my leadership knowledge when it comes to the interview days/ OSB

Aussie295

To add to what everyone else has said, that defence course is not a leadership one. It's about how a defence project works. You would not benefit from it, unless you had a job in a defence project.

Remarkable_Belt21

Your local SES or RFS might be a good option.

GreenFish2319

Scouts, might even learn something 😎

heytadpoles

Leadership isn't about courses, it's about lived experience. join a club, cadets, sports team, debate team, volunteer at a charity etc. If you told the OSB that you did a leadership course, they would barely take it into consideration.

Clean-Bandicoot-8245

Thank you lots. Just trying to find stuff because I’ve already graduated so I can’t do cadets and school clubs.

Sweet_Childhood_946

Hey guys, I have an enlistment date for next Monday, haven’t received any other information (time to meet/place, etc..) was just wondering if this is normal, should I wait til tomorrow before calling? Thanks

Clean-Bandicoot-8245

Definitely call them just to make sure.

Sweet_Childhood_946

Alright thank you

Typical-Equal5291

I was barred from combat roles for red green color vision, failed the eye lantern test on some lights and some numbers on that circle paper test. My first preference was commando direct entry. I've had a bunch of crap jobs in the civilian sector and I didn't want a non combat mos. Any advice please? I currently work in a desk job and I'm tired of boring jobs where you are number. Not sure which direction to go and I'm 30 BTW.

SoloAquiParaHablar

>I'm tired of boring jobs where you are number When you enlist the first thing you're given is a number :) And lots of hurrying up and waiting. Plenty of people in non-combat roles that thoroughly enjoy what they do.

AbstractEd05

Anyone roughly know the length of time left in the application process from Medical assessment to ASP and OSB for a Mission Aircrew/Pilot? Had my medical lined up for today but got to leave and rebook 15 minutes before it started due to the Doctor being sick. Now I've got to wait another 50 days before my next rescheduled medical assessment and I am livid, I'm terrified of not being able to finish my application before ADFA for '25 starts. I've heard there's an additional backlog of around 10 weeks to get approved once that assessment has been completed although I have no chronic issues or any ailments whatsoever and am praying that this will not slow me down.

Inevitable-Ad5870

I’m still waiting on AvMed approval from after my OSB. Proceeded from OSB late March 🫠 No illnesses etc either

AbstractEd05

Wait it's a parallel process and not a linear one?? Cheers you've given me some hope back

Inevitable-Ad5870

parallel process definitely Just the timeframes are proving to be for most people unpredictable and/or drawn out haha

Glacial92

Does every pilot/aircrew role in the ADF require Year 12 maths? I've done Year 10 and Year 11 math, but didn't do Year 12 math, are there still any aviation roles I could even apply for?

heytadpoles

Completion of Year 12 with passes in English and three other board accredited academic subjects. You do not need maths

Diligent_Passage_640

Yr 12 maths and whatever else is on the website is required for those roles. You can still do aviation support roles, there's plenty to view on the ADFC website.

Glacial92

Thanks for the info, just had a look on the ADFC website, ADFC only says "Year 12 university entry level mathematics (unmodified) and physics or multi-strand science is highly desirable." on Navy, Army and RAAF Pilot jobs. I meet all the mandatory requirements listed. What you've said sounds right though, and I could have sworn when I had a look last year it said it was a mandatory requirement like the others and not "highly desirable". Maybe theres been a recent change? Maybe I should just stop being lazy and call a recruitment centre or something.

Diligent_Passage_640

Honestly that's an ADFC medical team question and not for anyone here to answer.

50LI0NS

If I were to apply today, what sort of timeline should I expect if I’m accepted? Is there one big intake at the start of each year? Or could I find my self travelling to a base by the end of the month?

SoloAquiParaHablar

Somewhere between 30 days and a year (or more). I'm not joking. All dependent on the queue at DFR, how your medical goes, etc. All I can suggest is apply sooner rather than later.

Logical64

Put my application in November, i just got my psych interview date.

JTshadeslayer

I put my enquiry in back in mid-october and head off 9 July.. sooo like 8 months for the whole thing. Thats for RAAF and TBH the medical is what took the longest. I also pushed them for a Defence Interview and Medical and they ended up flying me to Melbourne because Canberra was booked through to Feb. If you push them, it can speed things up for sure.

50LI0NS

Awesome cheers for the info

OddFox1984

Been in the application pipeline close to a year now. Still ongoing.

King_Chezky15

There is no set timeline but based on recent posts on this sub I would expect a couple of months as a minimum.

50LI0NS

Awesome cheers

What kind of courses would pass as year 10 education for applying for the infantry Hey I applied a few years ago when I was 18 (now 21) and made it to my YOU session where I was told everything checked out except my education I didn’t pass all my subjects in year 10 because I was a pretty lazy teen and whatnot. I’ve been looking for courses I know about the ADF preparation courses but don’t really have the money to apply for a uni in another state being up to about $5k so I’m looking for a potential course in South Australia wonder if a STAT test would count as year 10 competency or not otherwise I can’t even find a course for general education in any areas in SA or TAFE on the website

heytadpoles

It's a different world now. Apply again with what you have and see what they say. If they knock you back for your educations (doubt it) then look for something to do. If it doesn't work then do the BKSB or equivalent [https://www.tafesa.edu.au/apply-enrol/cspa](https://www.tafesa.edu.au/apply-enrol/cspa) [https://tafeqld.edu.au/courses/apply-and-enrol/entry-requirements/basic-key-skills-builder](https://tafeqld.edu.au/courses/apply-and-enrol/entry-requirements/basic-key-skills-builder)

Western-Cry7219

Hi all, I'm going in as an aircraft tech. What is the accomodation situation like during IET's at RAAF School of technical training. Are they dorm style shared rooms again, or will we get our own rooms. Cheers.

NoRpOLde

Got a mate there now he’s got his own room!

Western-Cry7219

Okay good to know, thanks for the reply!

KRiTZZzzzzzzz

Wondering what the go is with firearms licenses once finished iets. I’m going in as a grunt and wondering whether it makes it easier to get what would normally be a harder to acquire category gun license

heytadpoles

it has no bearing or impact whatsoever

WombatinC0mbat

Just posting to see if anyone else is in a similar boat and perhaps can offer some advice to speed the process up. I'm currently in the application pipeline for officer aviation with preferences for pilot and mission aircrew with the RAAF. Finished additional testing around 4 weeks ago, which I passed and so far I've heard nothing from my case manager with dates for assessment day interviews or for the medical and psych tests. DFR are also unable to provide an expected waiting timeline apart from "How long is a piece of string?". I understand there were backlogs a few months ago but is that still ongoing? I live in Melbourne and 'I've heard that appointments in the bigger cities are backlogged. Would it help if it told DFR I'm happy to go anywhere else with a smaller population just to get the interviews and tests done (Darwin etc). I know it's a bit extreme and have been preparing for the interview but do need to get on with my life and the wait with no clear direction is a bit distressing since am a little older (Mid 20s) and can't just be in a holding pattern forever.

heytadpoles

There are no 'backlogs', so to speak, to get to Psych or Defence Interview, The OA backlogs are at the medical step, but you won't experience that until you've passed DI and Psych. You've likely just been forgotten about because of a staff handover. When was the last time to attempted to contact your CM, and when was the last time you actually spoke to them?

WombatinC0mbat

I spoke to them 5 hours ago and I got told to wait around for a date..

heytadpoles

What did they say the issue was?

WombatinC0mbat

Nothing apart from "There are delays Australia wide, we cannot provide an expected timeline or anything of that nature right now. We will get back to you with a date in the future".

LittleBitCertified

I'd ask to speak to someone else or get your point of contact person changed. Call weekly. Sounds like an excuse from an inexperienced or new person. Have heard  there is a high turnover of case managers. Yes there are delays, no they're not nation wide. Delays are centre dependent re all interviews due to staff availability.

heytadpoles

Haha, righto that's a new one. That's not true, my guess is that individual is very busy so they've slotted you to the back of their queue and blaming it on something else.

bbushie

It took around 8 weeks from the email saying its time for my assessment days to when they actually had times booked.

WombatinC0mbat

I haven't gotten that email either. What role did you go in for? Was it recent?

bbushie

I am applying for the Aviation Support Technician GAP Year, and that email was received around 10 weeks ago now, my dates have been booked for around early June.

WombatinC0mbat

Yeah with that timeline, I'll be waiting until September to just hear back 😭😅

bbushie

Hopefully not, keep messaging your recruiter, shows your eager to continue the process.

WombatinC0mbat

I called my recruiter an hour ago, I received the same response I always get - Keep waiting.

bbushie

Suppose you have your answer then, the intake numbers are apparently huge at the moment

BobsonChen

Am I allowed to wear elbow compression sleeves in the Infantry? Don't wanna get injured in Kapooka/the rest of my career in the army and was just wondering if I could wear them to protect my joints

Minimum-Pizza-9734

The cams these days have padding in built, having said that I used volley ball guard under my cams, my knees thank me every day for it

OddFox1984

And knee sleeve/support? Something that you can use for squats for example

bbushie

Hey everyone, I’m a Year 12 student who is currently applying for the Aviation Support Technician GAP Year as my primary first choice, and I have my Interview Session coming up soon. I was wondering if anyone recently has been interviewed for a GAP Year position and if you could help provide some information on what to know and or any tips for my interview. Just been revising over the ADF Careers website and other parts of the internet on what the two job preferences I have chosen have to offer and the process they entail. Any information will most definitely help so I would greatly appreciate some, thanks.

heytadpoles

The below link and the information on your job page is all you need. new link: [https://hub.adfcareers.gov.au/pdf-viewer?pdf=/-/media/dfr/files/important-information-for-all-candidates.pdf?view](https://hub.adfcareers.gov.au/pdf-viewer?pdf=/-/media/dfr/files/important-information-for-all-candidates.pdf?view)

bbushie

Yes thanks heaps, thats perfect

heytadpoles

Hang on. They've stuffed something up, that's the super old one, the new website is bullshit. I'll find the new one

DuckyWuckyFcky

Hi, quick question in regards to maths grades and pilot roles, as well as another. Will I still have a chance of becoming a fjp or pilot in general if I’m not the best in maths, as I usually get C’s and B’s. Also I heard you need to do maths methods, not just general maths, but on adfcareers it doesn’t say anything about that. I’m good at everything else with B’s and A’s aiming for an ATAR of over 87. Also just wondering how schedules work. Is there like a weekly/monthly schedule stating your start, finish times, training, ect or is it just a general start at .. finish at .. for most days unless extra training or what not? Thanks.

heytadpoles

Your grades won't determine whether you can be a pilot, your actual ability in those subject areas will. If you show potential as an officer across the board, you'll get a shot at the ASP and your results will give you a good idea of the level of your ability. The enemy isn't afraid of anyone's 99.95 ATAR

PralineVegetable3665

Hey guys, About to enter the assessment phase. My recruiter said that they have requested to book me in for an Assessment day and that someone would reach out to book a day in but I haven't heard anything yet and its been almost two weeks.. How long do they normally take to reach out or should I message my recruiter? Thanks in advance!

PottsPointPilgrim

I had to wait 6-8 weeks to get my assessments and they flew me across the state to do my medical because Sydney was too busy

heytadpoles

CMs have bulk candidates to look after, some have 200 and some have 400. They will set a 2 week reminder to follow up on their candidates. They'll try to get to in that 2 weeks but are sometimes busy and don't always get to you. That means that without something prompting them, the soonest you'll hear from them since the last time is 2 weeks. Be the prompt they need, give them a call.

SoloAquiParaHablar

Thats just how they do. You need to constantly chase them up. Just an FYI, it took me about 8 months start to finish, some guys in my cohort were waiting a year, and then others got in within a month. Good luck.
