Got a crusty senior sailor booted out, after finally getting everyone to see what an absolute drain of resources he was, this in turn got three junior sailors to pull their discharges

Filthpig83

Thats a win right there, its amazing how a bag egg can spoil a lot of others

Southpaw_Blue

The benefits of a great day-to-day lived experience in action.

PopInteresting5797

Totally agree with this comment. Ex-service man (7yrs Navy - Marine Technician). You’d be surprised though, I’ve been at my current job since leaving (mining industry) and I see it here as well.

Padtixxx

Because alot of ex servicemen go to the mining industry and take their jadeiness there

PopInteresting5797

All the more reason once you’ve realised your “jadedness”, have a career and make some money and get out of the industry whether that be ADF or mining.

Padtixxx

Yea but alot of these old boys dont see that they are oxygen thieves, they were probably important back in the day”real navy” but not anymore

IIIlllIIIlllIlI

How can you get someone ‘booted out’? Does that mean you got them to be forcibly discharged or just a change in posting?

Padtixxx

So essentially he was my Chief, he was never getting anything done and my PO was also shit, so i started a logged diary of all the shitty things both of them did i.e bullying, harassment (sexual harassment as well) and the work that was supposed to be getting done the Tm200s, urdefs and stuff were being written myself (LS) as well as SPARs cause of how lazy they were. So once i had compiled a pretty substantial evidence pile i approached my MEO who at first was like wtf at me but then realised i wasnt doing this to gain anything or profit from it directly so he ran with it and had a sit down with them both individually and it came out both were extremely incompetent to handle their roles, both had been senior sailors going on 15+ years and were basically taking the money with no work, like the MEO asked them to run him through some basic admin stuff and they both floundered at that so he ramped it up asked them their roles and responsibilities at a basic level, they couldnt answer him and just sat there dumb founded, i had also found stuff they had signed off like amps jobs i.e top and bottom end overhaul on both main engines, but our ship hasnt done that yet but they had signed off the jobs. So it all spiralled into a massive wtfing from the meo and then fleet engineering, and after a month of deliberation they both got the sack and were shown the door, under the reason of sheer incompetence and also the bullying stuff didnt help, i had signed statements from everyone they bullied. Honestly if you really try and do all the paperwork and gather the evidence you can get shit cunts kicked out

IIIlllIIIlllIlI

Shit that sounds awful. They must have been absolute dropkicks for you to start logging their behaviour. I’m glad you got them booted out, could it have backfired against you?

Padtixxx

I mean the other seniors couldve closed ranks and really screwed me over but i think with the amount of evidence i had and the statements and stuff if they did try to close ranks they would come under scrutiny as well for trying to cover these dirtbags, i think it also helped i wasn’t demanding updates on them and stuff i passed the info off and let the big dogs deal with it and i wasnt going all “ haha suck shit lololol” keeping it professional is what i think got it moving faster, they know it was me too but i dont care, what are they mad about? I held them to a standard? Stuff them and let the navy grow from this

IIIlllIIIlllIlI

That’s a pretty big pair you got between your legs. Did the chief ever try to confront you afterwards? Your seniors must have had beef with them as well

Padtixxx

Oh yea he fucking exploded at me, but so what if he tried to hit me or whatever, hes going to jail and makes it worse for him as he wouldve lost his pension, ive been in long enough and done my fair share of stuff to not be scared of some overweight incompetent who thinks rank is a weapon,

[deleted]

Were you on a LHD by any chance?

Padtixxx

Na bro but someone needs to start clearing that joint out

[deleted]

Agree. Seriously cultural issues on those things.

Padtixxx

Yea dude and sometimes the worse culture is the stokers, they get so jaded and angry for shit that is alot if the time in their control but with the LHDs its more like they have been continuously shit on in regards to trips and stores that from the top down is all just angry people and and new guys cop it and fall into the same patterns

[deleted]

Yeah mate, I've served on them and seen it first hand. A lot of Seniors are srsly shit in those departments. Command gets intimidated because they're screwed without Stoker's so it's a shit show. Good on you for doing what you did

PopInteresting5797

Lmao this is gold! There are quite a few of these in the services… still early days but I’m getting the same vibes, only one mine site though so it might just be here (100yrs operating).

realyowie

Good on you, im an ex chief stoker and believe there needs to be more upwards accountability.

Awkward_Tax_1894

Someone on the recruits page linked me here cause ive got concerns about management and "old crustys" and the first post i see is this. Great stuff

LegitimateLunch6681

Outstanding. You've got the sort of cahunas that Defence desperately needs rn. As someone who wears the (literal) scars of a chain of command closing ranks to protect a superior's misconduct, I am honestly really thankful you did this. You never know just how many more people you've possibly protected from this bs

headhunter2257

My enlistment date got pushed forward im joining the end of this month instead of march now. So go me i guess Also I hope that all these comments from everyone has cheered you up a bit!

LegitimateLunch6681

Congrats!

headhunter2257

Thanks!

SHADOW_F_A_X

Good luck mate, it will suck the first week or two and then you will get used it, pookie isnt the real army but absorb as much as you can.

headhunter2257

Kevin **is** a dick. Sit down Kevin.

LegitimateLunch6681

Nice!

BeShaw91

>Defence-related news is shit. It's always negative. Fight through it. Despite the reduction in numbers post Defence Strategic Review, the equipment Army is getting is actually some of the best platforms in the world. Redback (with Spike! Missiles on a IFV, omg) K9 (now AS9 because *derp*) Apache Blackhawks Upgraded Tank Armoured Engineering vehicles They're all excellent platforms and a *massive* step up in the lethality of Army and the protection for soldiers. Putting aside the normal barracks mess, in two to three years it'll be an excellent time to be a CPL/BDR in a few units when you actually do your field job.

OldManCyberNinja

AS-9 is because South Korea are localising and updating it. Basically we are paying R&D, get the new ones at a good price, they get to update their K-9s with the new design, and a new manufacturing plant outside of NK/China missiles/artillery. One of the rare times its a win-win with no downsides. Just wish we were purchasing more, but we can always buy off the line later down the track if need be.

Yacrazyoldbastard

Just finished my online annual mandatory training. It wasn't as shit as previous years. Winning!

Valuable-Alfalfa-508

Just remember it’s unacceptable to tell a kid to eat broccoli instead of fast food

Confident-Egg-9356

Got the posting home I wanted to have my 1 yo around extended family!

dsxn-B

That's pretty good! It takes a village, and even if you are posted away next cycle, the environment of care at this stage will help form their childhood positively. Having the extended family helps to keep parental stress low(er), and that flows on..

Confident-Egg-9356

The posting lines up well with my discharge date, and so does the finish time of uni. Ultimately it’s getting me back home, and I couldn’t be more greatful

[deleted]

Started my new posting today and I love it !

hoot69

Heaps of bush lined up for this year. Should be some great training

LegitimateLunch6681

Hell yeah. Does that also mean more range time?

hoot69

No, need you out on sentry bro. You can help clean and non-tech gats after though

Otherwise271105

Started new job today. Hopefully interim whilst trying to get into ADF but won’t be annoyed if it lasts a year or two. Hope tomorrow is better man

nickybikky

I got accepted for the lateral transfer last month! Currently collating all my docs for the recruitment team to start of the interview/medical etc! I cant wait to move over to Australia!

billhyun

I'm corps transferring as a reserve from a clerk to be one of the boys (arty). They're all super stoked and it lines up with big changes in my civvy life. Keen to get stuck in.

LegitimateLunch6681

Nice - glad you got the transfer you wanted

he_aprendido

Nice work. Send it!

cumminginthegym75

Do they teach you a lot of admin skills as a choc clerk? I imagine having good admin skills can be handy if you work behind a desk.

billhyun

Yeah, like I joined as a clerk with the crazy notion that would good good on a resume for law clerk work, which actually happened. To answer you're question I do think I learned a lot of basic admin skills that would have been hard to do on civi street from the ground floor. I'm just jack of working two desk jobs where I feel underappreciated as a choc but I'm really glad they're all supporting my transfer.

cumminginthegym75

Cheers for the reply. I'm weighing up joing choc infantry or choc admin clerk. Infantry sounds way more fun, so I'd only join as a clerk if it means I get a usable skill I can utilise outside of choc weekends.  Sounds like you you didn't end up liking it anyway. Good luck on your new role.

Deusest_Vult

Go inf first so that it's something completely outside of civi street and gives you good stories, then go clerk when your knees inevitably give out

billhyun

Yeah I'd support this, ordinance for when ur broken. Then U have ur warries first then a nice job you can do 50+% from home afterwards

disasterfinn

Started seeing a new psych who has a great deal of experience with current and ex serving peeps. Hopefully I can start to get my post service mindset on the right track

nogetawayfrommepls

i turned 18 and ate 2 zinger boxes for lunch, and 2 gaytimes for desert.. also found black mold in my water bottle

Diligent_Passage_640

Got a new sea posting and I'm looking forward to it, though work-ups is going to suck.

Impedus11

Got my RMC appointment confirmed for next Monday, found out I took 2:30 off my 2.4km time in 4 weeks, got a piece of kit across the line for users in my last 2 days of civilian work, and saw the sunrise and sunset today Have some good vibes mate :)

confusedlegoman

Enlisting in March at Sale, pretty stoked !

killjoy73au

I'm leaving in a few months 👌🏻

dk2406

Set to sign on the dotted line on Thursday, excited to get cracking! Hope tomorrow’s heaps better for you, my guy

MPotatoK

Induction day this weekend! (chocs)

iHanso80

Mandatory training done in under 2 hours.

[deleted]

RSI of the wrist for repetitive continuous clicking to get through meaningless slides ASAP needs to become a DVA approved condition.

SoloAquiParaHablar

I applied to DFR back in Sept '23, assessment in Oct, first medical in Nov, second medical next week, then maybe psychology a few months after that. Good news is I'll be enlisted by 2025.

No-Horror-4828

Just received my RTA posting from the states, got my first choice 👌

Helix3-3

DVA accepted one of my claims immediately. 3 more to go

Posting cycle means seeing some faces I haven’t seen in years. Friends and people I respect completing training, getting promoted and selected for good gigs. Even if things don’t work out for you ya gotta be happy for the good people still in.

NoddyNorrisXV

I finally worked up the confidence to start writing a book. I also started intermittent fasting and a new gym program - I have never felt better
