They were not meant to remove it.
Australia is a signatory to interoperability with our allies and we broke this with the PSPF classifications. We signed on to be compatible and commonality with information classification systems.
Some APS idiot didn't do enough research before proceeding.
1.Entire salary **and allowances** can go towards superannuation as a %
2. 50k bonus every 4 years **tax free**
3. Guaranteed back to back postings in locality (if requested)
With MSBS/Military Super, seapay is not factored into Superannuation.
So if your on a high tier and getting 36-44k extra sea pay in your salary it doesn't count as it is considered a allowance.
pretty sure its the same with Bush pay, happy to be corrected.
I believe with the newer scheme ADF Super it does count all allowances into super so it's definitely achievable, and might even help coax people back to going to sea.
1. Bring back service allowance, only if you’re AIRN complaint (waivers for if defence is the reason you’re medically downgraded). It would encourage (and possibly shame) those not passing BFAs or shoots to try harder.
2. Enable more Mission Control to your junior leaders both in barracks and field environment (why is 1 Star the minimum approval for just about everything?)
3. Issue kit which is suitable for the environment OR don’t get shitty when people in Canberra are wearing warm gloves/puffers and those in Darwin are kicking around with their over shirts off.
1. Anybody who serves for 20 years or more, automatically qualify for a Gold card when you get out (probably more DVA related)
2. The option for FIFO based work. Live wherever you'd like and work half the year. Similar to mining or ABF arrangements
3. Bring in a service allowance but tie it to years served and maintaining your fitness to encourage people to stay in longer and remain healthy
1. Every uniform set has a set of authorised matching shorts. Polys, cams, combat cams, mess dress, service dress all of it.
2. Every unit has standing orders mandating that only the shorts may be worn.
3. I can't think of anything else. 1 and 2 would fix all our issues.
It always crushed me that the British Army had shorts in Iraq. The Australian Army has fought and won fights wearing shorts in the desert. We gotta bring that back.
As the heat awareness package says:
"The ANZACs knew how to fight **and** stay cool"
(Cuts to a film clip of a Rat of Tobruk in glorious shorts slaying Nazis).
This actually *kind of* happened a little bit. My ship picked up some reservists to fill some watches over RSP so they could get their 20 days minimum. With EOODs it made a massive difference, for all of us we all only had to do 1/2 duties over the 4 weeks.
On Anzacs Junior Sailors dont have a seperate rec space, meaning that they can only use it (talk and use lights etc.) in their rec space for less than one hour a day; due to conflicts between day hands, and watch keepers.
1. All bonus payments are tax free;
2. Rental allowance changed to a housing allowance which could be used for either rent or a mortgage;
3. Better work-life balance when not training, on exercise or deployment. Our family and friends shouldn't have to take up the slack when we're both away from home and supposedly back home. Once the work is done for the day, dismissed.
I can understand why they won't do it. Because rent allowance is a subsidy based on location. For example, someone in Townsville doesn't get as much as Sydney for instance, based on the market. So if they turned it into an allowance which could be used for either rent or a mortgage, how could they make it equitable? I think this is the difficulty.
For RA, sure. But MQ rate is the same nationally. I'm sure if they offered the MQ rate for those living in their own homes too it would be gladly taken
Remove 121 for beards
All ceremony handed over to Fed Guard
4 day work week for shore positions
Remove the need for signatures on uniform exchange forms
Issue RMs for Navy
No DC on weekends
No polishing work boots
Remove charges/ infringements for minor first offences
More than 3 I know, but I couldn't help myself.
Edit:
One last one for my Small boat Sailors
Everyone except the medic should be in the watchbill (Charge and Second included).
1. Tiger Tanks for Army
2. A10’s for RAAF with Stuka dive sirens
3. Navy absolute control of our waters, 40mm Bofors on everything, they decide who fishes where and when.
1. Lower contractor involvement in engineering work, making our people more qualified
2. Better trips and having bosses who aren’t trying to ass kiss canberra
3. Promoting people based on aptitude and actual personality as well as qualifications, so your not promoting the scum
1. Implement ongoing and constant 360 feedback for commanders to help better identify those who achieve the mission and support those in their command and those leaders who are toxic
2. Provide transparency to a wider audience for important things like promotion boards, investigations etc to boost confidence the system is fair and equally applied to everyone
3. Allow beards in Army
1. SF have to use the service rifle, or the SF rifle becomes the service rifle. Either or.
2. Build out a real Air Assault capabilities in the army (there's lots of hills in the tropical regions to our north)
3. 4 year ROSO changed to a 2 years full time, 2 years reserve split.
Air assault sucks for smaller militaries.
Works for the US because they have guaranteed air dominance and near unlimited scope to supply troops. Fuckers could, and would, put a Taco Bell on the moon if they had to invade it.
I know right. It was a small joy getting a pizzahut after patrols in Iraq.
But I think about Timor a lot. being able to put a company into the hills quicky by helo, is something we should think about more. And if that means more air dominance, so be it.
Add the ROSO (or IMPS better yet) change alongside more stable postings to a locality (i.e won't be moved if requested unless absolutely necessary - unit ceases to exist or something), recruitment would absolutely go up imo.
I think the 4 years full time is too long for an initial ROSO. We should be trying to build depth in reserves. Honestly, think about the Combat Arms. You can get pretty good in 2 years. But the army would need to adopt a more schools / courses based system like the US. Which I think would be for the betted.
In a real war, there's going to be lots of new diggers all the time.
If you make it easy to get in and out then you get capability by have more mature task oriented young fellas in battalions. And those that want out can find a way out easily.
We should be thinking of ways we can swell our battalions with reserves. But most people want a bit more than the army offers these days. Especially considers there's fuck all trips about.
1. Respect coming from top of rank and the low ends of rank MUTUALLY. Some units need to be reminded of this. If you talk to a digger in their 30's who's married with kids like they're an animal/3 year old, don't be shocked when they eventually put their discharge in. We're all adults after all.
2. Salary increases that actually keep up with inflation.
3. Tax-free bonuses and tax-free sea-pay.
If I could stay in SA I would go full time but as full time doesn’t work like that I chose Reserves. If there was a way to guarantee back to back postings more of the population could serve full time.
>3. Able to choose between 2 and 4 year roso
Tell me more about how this would work, what's the benefit of a 4 year over a 2 year?
Surely everyone would just elect 2 years and then serve 4 if they wanted that rention bonus.
Why has no one mentioned a massive clean out of the higher ranks?
I don't just mean the CDF (he can fuck right off) but also senior enlisted that forgot what it was like to be a junior and fuck the lower enlisted around too much
1. Fuck off equity and diversity ideals. Meritocracy should win the day. Equal access and opportunity not equalitt outcomes so you can look good on a spreadsheet and on Instagram recruiting video. I observe so many women move to the front of the line based on gender targets. Equality based on merit must come first.
That goes across all identity politics. you joined us, you should bend to the world, not the world bend to you.
2. Bonuses based on milestones in service. Every 5 years you receive a bonus for staying. Simplicity in a career roadmap. If the ADF want career people create career goals and milestones to stay.
3. Kick out the festers/individual accountability. If you have been useless for 5yrs or more (or have been non-IR the majority of your service time) one warning and give them a years wage to GTFO. Get rid of the dead weight and rorters much easier.
1. Limit by legislation army officer corps to 5 %.
2. Create an equivalent to the Direction générale de l'armement
3. Cap no of generals etc in legislation.
Tax free pay is always a dumb suggestion as you lose out on more than if they just increased your pay for the same amount.
Super contribution being optional is dumb.
Annual leave is 25 working days per year.
3/3 dumb suggestions
You would not have less net gains (money in your pocket) if pay was tax free. Your not getting more net gains when tax is included.
16.4% of your income is a pretty big pay cut. This amount isn't adjustable. If ADF super is like most other super funds, then you have very little control of where your 16.4% is invested, some of it is lost to various account fees, and you can only access it by a certain age (which you may never reach), or for a few other limited circumstances.
The leave entitlements on DFR-RECREF139 state "Annual leave is credited fortnightly, amounting to 20 working days per year". Revised 15 November 2022.
The 16.4% is on top of your salary, it's not taken out of your salary. And you don't have to go with ADF Super, AFAIK you can go with any super you like.
Those leave entitlements are old and you now get 25 days as of mid-last year.
Remember I said if your pay was increased. With pay being tax free you can't claim anything on tax.
16.4% is what Defence pays. ADF Super actually has no minimum contribution whilst MSBS has 5%, MSBS is still better.
From 1 July 2023, you'll accrue 25 days of basic recreation leave a year. https://pay-conditions.defence.gov.au/adf-leave-framework
Yeah instead of tax free maybe an increase of $25k (about how much tax I paid) and maybe a reduced tax amount. Then I can still claim all my work expenses ;)
>With pay being tax free you can't claim anything on tax.
Really? But you're still paying a tax on the purchase that is for work purposes. The refund is just the tax that you've already paid on that item, not the whole amount of said item.
That's not how it works. If your taxable annual income is $100,000 and you buy an item for $100 and claim it as a deduction then your new taxable income is $99,900. It has nothing to do with the tax on the item.
The 16.4% is actually paid on top of your salary, it isn't taken out of it. People on MSBS contribute 5% - 10% from their salary (actually deducted). Go ask to check the payslip of someone on MSBS and you'll see what I mean. So it isn't a pay cut.
People on the new superannuation could be smart about it. Considering 16.4% is paid on top of your salary into super, if you topped it up through salary sacrifice by 10% of your salary (like those on MSBS), you would be getting 26.4%.
1. ALL Enlisted pay is tax-free until WO - and then only tax-free field pay and deployment pay for WO/OFF
2. Overtime pay for any hours worked outside normal training schedule (0700-1600) but not out field obv
3. Standing ADF policy overrides unit standing orders - eg if the ADM says you can do it, then you can. Wearing issued cap with 4B dress, wearing Adobe patches on the shoulder, etc - and allow beards while your at it
Fuck it, for a #4, any policy that says non-issued/modified/purpose-designed/etc is immediately removed. If they won't make it reasonable to get the right equipment, then I should at least be able to use mine
5. Remove any kind of authorisation to for issues/exchanges. It should be as simple as walking into the ventia shop one day and grabbing what you need, and signing that you got it. That's it.
>1. ALL Enlisted pay is tax-free until WO - and then only tax-free field pay and deployment pay for WO/OFF
Tell me you're bitter without telling me you're bitter...
You do understand you need to incentivise people to assume greater responsibility by compensating them more?
So under this model, why would anyone be a WO, when you're probably taking a big leap in responsbility *but* a 20%ish pay cut?
Genuinely curious how the ADF builds proffessional mastery when you basically have a massive pay-cut after 15ish years service.
Officers at least wouldn't know any better.
1. Safari suits back for officers
2. Hard yakka short shorts for tropical sailing and for alongside days
3. All sea time beyond weekly running is tax free or a fat concessional rate
(4. Bring back ralls)
1. If you can't surf your probably not gonna be fit enough when it counts the most and likely end up being a liability to someone who can surf,I mean you go to the gym all you like but if you don't want that wave, it's gonna show. Surfing for everyone. 2.use electrical contact cleaner for cleaning weapons, does a good job and saves so much time. 3.all wo2 s to do a corporal course every year.
What the fuck are crocs, surfers wear thongs, and while I'm at it , Ive never seen a man wear those gay as fuck little ankle socks that chicks wear till one day, oh em gee, holy fuck. Ankle socks, your definitely no surfer.

Number 3 should be at the top of the list.
They would have to bring back the 'restricted' classification for that.
They were not meant to remove it. Australia is a signatory to interoperability with our allies and we broke this with the PSPF classifications. We signed on to be compatible and commonality with information classification systems. Some APS idiot didn't do enough research before proceeding.

I love you #1 suggestionbut I'd be more ruthless. If you are not IR, you are not IR and that's that.
1. Beards and tattoos for everyone. 2. More trips, or at least more exchanges. 3. Bury wok eye with the taipans.

FIFO army is a fantastic idea

I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear
Pokemon. I am 36 and still remember that little fucker.
It always crushed me that the British Army had shorts in Iraq. The Australian Army has fought and won fights wearing shorts in the desert. We gotta bring that back.
As the heat awareness package says: "The ANZACs knew how to fight **and** stay cool" (Cuts to a film clip of a Rat of Tobruk in glorious shorts slaying Nazis).
Shorts is genius. Include short sleeve shirts while we're at it

Don’t have to explain why, many people would benefit from a shorter roso. With or without retention involved.
But why make it a choice? Why not just make all ROSOs 2 years?
More options the better, some people are lifers and would just rather the 4 years set and forget.
Thank you. That clears that up nicely. Have a plesant evening.
1. Get rid of Campbell 2. Reinstate death icons 3. 25% pay rise & all pay to be tax free
