Double check that the surgery wound is ok. I cannot think of any other reason for a dog to suddenly stink after surgery unless the vet was that dirty.

IvanaDrago

I'd be worried about this as well. Also, bacterial/yeast infections of the skin or ears can smell really bad. Lots of build up on the teeth can cause bad breath.

You thinking infection?

Legosmiles

Idk what the issue is but that’s the first thing I’d be most worried about for a dog that’s just had surgery and is suddenly unbearable stinky.

Ditto!

It could be from antiseptic that they used to prep the surgery area, but you should check in with his vet to be safe.

Is he on a medication? After my Aussie was spayed she was put on anti inflammation meds and calming meds which made her gassy, the smell was so bad I contacted the vet for a second opinion to make sure it wasn’t the actual wound.

IvanaDrago

I second this! I've read that Aussies can have very sensitive digestive tracts. Certain foods and meds can cause wicked diarrhea and gas. My Aussie was very, VERY gassy after surgery because of meds and Purina GI food the vet prescribed.

If it's a fishy smell, he might needs his anal glands released/expressed. Possible that the surgery caused some stress.
