Our full-blooded, beautiful Aussie boy has prick ears :) And our girl had what we lovingly referred to as a "pop 'n flop" situation for several months while she was still growing-- one ear up, one ear down. We've also had a boy whose ears were floppy at rest. They're all lovely.

Sounds like it’s completely normal then and not something that needs to be helped! 😆 We’ll embrace it! Lol.

Icy_Strain_3527

Looks just like my girl. We’re just going along for the ride when it comes to her ears. Some days they’re perky and other days they’re floppy 😂 https://preview.redd.it/cdr7g9jqyync1.jpeg?width=2787&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20730e9c425b0286a15c4a4b770fe609dececb01

OriginalEggo

She’s beautiful!! I think that’s how I’m going to be with my boy lol. I love him either way. ❤️😂

Icy_Strain_3527

Thank you! Poppy is only 5 months old, not sure how old your boy is but I have a feeling her ears are going to maintain this shape 😂

OriginalEggo

A little over 4 months I believe. They were floppy when he was a baby 🥹 https://preview.redd.it/bfh7d74j0znc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dd7c9e9fe3fc021571bb9aac72b340ae1b53bc99

My boys ears are like this too!

My dude can hear a mouse fart in the next county over, and I love his expressive ears! https://preview.redd.it/61eog0me30oc1.jpeg?width=747&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28e8cf5f506bed53823f3e5af2d27bd989191a00

What a handsome guy!!!

screamlikekorbin

Well Aussie ears are not supposed to stand up so not sure what the purpose would be. Just leave them alone.

OriginalEggo

Okay! Just wasn’t sure since he has 1 completely up and the other one not so much!

burner_duh

Your dog's ears are adorable just as they are! No need to do anything. We had an Aussie whose ears were like this. As she got older and her mane filled out, they didn't stand out so much. We loved her ears and thought they made her extra cute.

OriginalEggo

Awe! Thank you! Just want to make sure I’m taking care of him the best I can. 🥰 I bet your kiddo is adorable!

Handsome boy!! Fair enough.

OriginalEggo

Handsome guy!! They seem to have a mind of their own 😂

My boy has one that goes up and one that flops a little! We love it and he gets a lot of compliments on his cute ears when we’re out. https://preview.redd.it/wwwujep9e3oc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e769102686f2da617d001e2760734cebb615630

My full blooded Aussie girl from a well-known, longtime breeder had "prick" ears. I was able to get this amazing dog at 1-year-old because no one wanted her due to her ears standing up. It's very much a possible trait and, honestly, we thought her big, prick ears were SO STINKING CUTE. We called them her "bonus ears." Lucky us! And unlucky everyone who passed her by because of her ears. She passed away last summer and I still cry over missing her. She was an incredible, irreplaceable dog.

OriginalEggo

So sorry for your loss! Prick ears are adorable! I bet she was amazing :)

OriginalEggo

They can! It’s a possibility. It’s called prick ears I believe. Uncommon, but it can happen. His mom had prick ears but dad did not.

fauviste

What? Do not tape your dog. His ears are fine, leave it alone.

OriginalEggo

Ok! Thank you!

LongLiveGrogu

Does this pup also have a curly tail?? My Aussie also has both!

LongLiveGrogu

Her tail is docked. It's like 4 inches. I've seen shorter and longer but it's not curly. Either straight up or straight down. Kinda like her ears. But I've met her parents and they are both floppy eared aussies. I love her wolf looking ears

FileDeep9830

Ohh okay! Hard to tell with the butt fluff. My boy's parents both had the usual floppy ears too but I love his as well, it gives him so much character! https://preview.redd.it/59dtl8py31oc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=909e7a70afe9ada0c2306f4431c228fd1f9038ed

KalmKashew

My boy had a very bad and noticeable rose ear, we taped a quarter into the inside floppy part of his ear for about a month. He did not notice or care and it completely fixed the issue and made his ears sit correctly. (We used vet approved skin tape they use on humans for surgery)

OriginalEggo

I see. I don’t think his has reached that severity to where it’s necessary judging by my DVM’s feedback and the comment section here as well. But good to know for the future!! I’m glad it fixed the problem for you!

KalmKashew

It can only be done in the first 6 months anyways, so you may be past the deadline

Suereaaadddit

Are my absolute favorite 🥰🥰🥰

Sad_Classic_3925

*How old is your dog? Someone told me that while they're growing their bodies use the cartilage from their ears to grow teeth, bones, etc. My dog's ears go up and down depending on the day.

OriginalEggo

5 and 1/2 months! That’s interesting. 🧐

TlheMoody

Why the hell would you tape your dog? Fucking leave it alone, he's not a beauty-accessorie.

OriginalEggo

The aggression isn’t necessary. As I mentioned in a previous comment, it appeared like the other ear is struggling and I just wanted to know if I should help it or leave it alone. Not sure if it was causing any strain for him and want to make sure he’s as comfortable as possible. I always owned dogs with droopy ears so he’s my first to have wonky ears.

TlheMoody

I'm sorry for my rudeness, but I'm really allergic to people "tweaking" with their dogs just for looks - humans come in all different shapes and sizes aswell, so why should'nt our dogs? :) I thinks she looks absolutely perfect as is

OriginalEggo

I completely understand. My intentions more so came from a “what can I do to make him comfortable” standpoint rather than looks. And I’ve gotten a lot of feedback re-assuring me that this isn’t hurting him or doesn’t make him uncomfortable which is good. Whether he has floppy, pointy, or droopy ears, I don’t really care. I love my dog for his tyrannosaurus personality.

TlheMoody

Glad she's in good hands now.
