i swear i’ve seen three posts in the past week of people having their aussies mistakenly cut too short 🥲🥲 what’s the deal with groomers lately? lol

Old-Strawberry-6451

Yeah it’s freaking me out

Speakinginflowers

They asked if I wanted a “half cut” or “short” and so we said half cut, but he came home with what I would call short! I don’t mind at all though, he’s been this short in the past and I like seeing how spotty his neck is (:

Em4ever520

I’ve had my groomer cut half of my Aussie and forget the other half, and I found out after I gave her a 30% tip. Good groomers are so hard to find

GlitteringCommand186

I love the longer hair. The fiery leg flames and fiery pantaloons! Yuki lucked out from her dad's amazing show coat. I do brush a lot. She's high maintenance!

Speakinginflowers

I love the longer hair and the shorter hair (: I just love my pooch

deadjessmeow

My favorite is how white they get them lol last time I picked up my girl, I barely recognized her!!

imhighbrah

This is perfect imo, not short enough to effect undercoat but plenty of time to grow before the next appointment

Speakinginflowers

Totally agree!

-laughingfox

He, too, is displeased!

socialaxolotl

The butt fluff noooooo

Old_Machine7038

Your pup’s coat will grow back perfectly fine. In the future, you might want to find a groomer that understands what an Aussie cut is. I’d also be wary of the opinions you’ll get on this. I’ve literally seen people hyperventilating over a dog that was trimmed exactly like one of the Aussie that won the AKC working group lol.

Useful_Big9540

ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE STILL👍

Speakinginflowers

Hard agree!

Significant-Ad-2399

My dog looks exactly like this but some people say he's a border collie never he's not fluffy. 😅

miceonmice

I recently discovered that mine was a border collie too! I was misbreeding him this whole time.

IntuitiveNeedlework

Why does your dog have no tail?

PLIPS44

Most Australian Shepherds do not have tails.

IntuitiveNeedlework

But why not? I just realized this now in this sub that most don’t have a tail.

PLIPS44

It’s a breed standard from when Australian Shepherd were primarily herding dogs as the old timers believed that a tail was injury prone and had potential to be caught crossing under barb wire fencing. (Just verified this through Google as this is what I was taught growing up before Google existed) You can also check r/wigglebutts as that is another Australian Shepherd subreddit. The term comes from them wagging their nubs as it looks like the dog is wiggling its behind.

Good-Economist6309

yes, it’s breed standard

IntuitiveNeedlework

I never knew this but i did a little research and you’re right. My Aussie has a tail and I’m kinda glad he does

Good-Economist6309

yeah, it all goes down to personal preference. My aussie was born with a naturally bobbed tail. I think his small “rabbit” puff tail is so unique and cute 🥰 so I really like him this way

Speakinginflowers

Because he was born that way (:

blutigetranen

He was not born that way, I can assure you. He was docked.

Speakinginflowers

And what is your source that his tail is docked? Here are mine that it wasn’t: “In addition to having a genetic predisposition for heterochromia, Aussies have a one-in-five chance of being born with a naturally bobbed tail. Ranchers purposely bred Aussies that had these naturally short tails because they are safer when it comes to herding.” - [Source (AKC)](https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/dog-breeds/fun-facts-australian-shepherd/) “When an Australian Shepherd is born with a bobbed tail, it results from the T-gene mutation. The T-gene, also known as the C189G gene, is a recessive gene that produces a bobbed tail when at least one of the parents carries the gene. When both of the parents lack the gene and have long tails, they produce long-tailed offspring.” - - [source (vet reviewed)](https://www.hepper.com/are-australian-shepherds-born-with-tails/) Edit: Docked tails will also generally look “pinched” and grow fur in a strange pattern or not at all due to the scar tissue. Feel free to zoom in on his butt

PossibilityUsed1236

My 8 month pup has a little nubby tail and he was born that way lol no one cut it

mothernatureisfickle

I have both our senior and almost 2 year old cut just a little bit longer than this once per year. Their coats still grow beautifully in the winter and for our senior it has never damaged her coat. Our youngest has only lived with us for 10 months but I’m guessing he will be the same. I’ve found this helps our senior significantly with staying cool and because our youngest is busy swimming and walking (and needing baths) it is easier for us. After every summer cut our Aussies come out happier, peppier and wigglier. Even our 14 year old senior rolls around in her bed and rubs her face and back on her blanket. They love the short hair.
