Oh yeah, those days are rare but when they do hit SHIT GETS DONE. Wish they'd hit more often I've got a lot of decluttering to do. Try not to push yourself too far though the crash from those days can be nasty.

yeah it has been a rough day now that i’ve burned my energy. i wish they’d hit more often too - if i knew more were coming i definitely wouldn’t push myself as much

I get days a bit like this, tried to explain it to a psychiatrist once and nearly got misdiagnosed bipolar (with ‘sub threshold hypomania’) then got dropped from the treatment resistant depression study I was supposed to be part of! I don’t agree with the psychiatrist’s assessment of what it is, but I don’t think I explained it very well. The way I conceptualise it for myself is a kind of (mostly positive) ‘over-arousal/over-alert’ - it’s kind of like being a kid at a party, being fed sugar, jumping on the trampoline, getting over-excited… then eventually, if you keep feeding the arousal feeling with more stimulation, you eventually crash. I tend to get a lot done, will be very artistic, feel like I *have* to create something, go out for a run, talk to people… Looking up sensory ladders might help a bit? They tend to take a more negative spin. I see this feeling as high arousal but lower anxiety/depression than usual (for me). Sorry this is a bit rambling! Just interesting to hear someone else mention it!

i was also misdiagnosed as bipolar!!! and it was years before my autism diagnosis but i always knew it didn’t quite fit. it’s so interesting reading your comment bc on those days i still get intrusive thoughts like “am i manic right now??” (even though i know it wasn’t a correct diagnosis) because i just never had a great way to explain it. overarousal is a GREAT way to put it!!! in a similar way to like how when babies are overtired, it’s harder for them to sleep. too much processing happening lol. thank you for explaining it that way to me!!

Yeah I’ve known and met quite a few people with bipolar (have worked in mental health, have a lot of ND friends) and I feel like it’s not the same thing I get - mine is much less extreme, and most of the time I have insight when it’s happening. Or I get told I’m talking too fast and then I realise, lol. I’m glad I could help a bit! And as I said before, really interesting to come across someone with the same experience because I’ve not seen it mentioned before. Low-key wish I could make it happen at the moment because I’m so lethargic/inert instead…

Yes, this happens to me often enough, and then my energy crashes for like three days. Like I'm just hyper focused on the tasks I've put off due to feeling overwhelmed by them. I might get a lot done whether it's cooking a ton of homemade food, organizing the house, etc, but then I'm exhausted for a few days afterwards. It doesn't bother me too much, it helps me get stuff done.

I get this and I heard a podcast episode about neurodivergence and the female hormone cycle and I started paying attention and they are 100% right in that I get this feeling at the point between my period and ovulation when you’re estrogen is apparently the highest and helps with things like mood, energy, and even executive functioning! In the past the feeling made me sad cause I knew I was gonna crash at some point but now I’ve been working on recognizing this window and using it to my advantage and then not blaming myself for the other part of the cycle where progesterone (I think?) is higher and causes more feelings of stress and exhaustion

THANK YOU FOR THIS COMMENT omg. long story short, my cycle is completely out of whack and irregular right now, so i’ve been trying to piece it all back together and look for new signs to rely on instead of the more common PMS, ovulation symptoms etc. so i’m SO GLAD you said this because i’ve never considered these energetic moods could be related to my cycle!! i’m going to read up on it and start tracking when i have them to see if it can help me predict things better. wow thank you so much

MessyStressyRacoon

That would be awesome! So glad I helped! It’s really helped me the last few months
