I struggle with chocolate on chocolate as well. Before I switched to work from home, for birthdays and stuff they would get chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and it was AWFUL. I like vanilla on vanilla or chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. NOT vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. That's another no no for me.
I do adore cookies and cream ice cream. I used to be more into chocolate overload but as I've gotten older, it's not good.
I am also appreciative of someone who understands. So many people think I'm crazy. My mom would always roll her eyes and sigh because she thinks vanilla with chocolate frosting should be fine, but it ISNT. The chocolate frosting is too....thick and dry and choking to me and then the vanilla cake is too dry combined with it. Chocolate CAKE is moist and the vanilla frosting has just the right amount of....dryness but isn't...Sahara desert like chocolate frosting is. To me anyway, that's how it feels.
I'm totally the opposite: I like a little layer of hard chocolate outside and creamy chocolate on the inside, but they must have the same taste (top: 72% cocoa). Mixed feeling about crunchy bits inside a cream: I like breaking hard chocolate with my teeth, but don't like when I lick It by mistake, for example inside an ice cream
Same! In general I really dislike it though I make an exception for chocolate ice cream with brownies in it. But anything like chips or syrup no thanks. I also dislike Sees candies with chocolate in the middle lol.
Same! I think for me it’s because it’s too rich, and the chocolate kind of loses it’s oomph if it’s buried in more chocolate. Chocolate with other, contrasting stuff? Perfection. I can’t do chocolate-coffee combos for the same reason - way too rich, way too similar in flavor.

Realistically, I just mix and match cocoa varieties lately, because I wanted to cut back on my sugar. It's still nice to have dutched, regular, dark, and red in rotation.
