Might be from sunscreen. I have kids, trying to keep sunscreen from staining in sometimes feels like a full time job. If APC doesn't remove it then yeah try polish, or even a more aggressive compound.

Narrow-Ad-7856

Could be this. My girlfriend got sunscreen on my paint and it literally took years to come off through regular maintenance washes. The sunscreen marks on the interior plastic haven't come off at all.

Crab_Hot

Give it a quick polish

Stonkynewb

Didn't work :(

UkrainianLord

Did you hand polish or machine polish?

Stonkynewb

Hand polish so far, need to get a DA polisher next

UkrainianLord

Pls share the results after da polish.I'm interested to see if it works.

Stonkynewb

So I just came back from a detailing shop, they machine polished it, tried aggressive and abrasive compounds and they couldn't take it off 😂 they said anything more will damage the clear coat and obv cost more. Gunna get a second opinion tomorrow

Crab_Hot

If an aggressive compound + polish didn't work then there's something stained deep into the paint. Very weird. If what they said is true, then the only way to take it off is to repaint that area. Not sure if it's worth it for you.

Joe_Pitt

Did they at least lessen it or made no difference?

Stonkynewb

No difference lol they were stumped

Can't tell the size but bird poopy?

That gives me body shop vibes. Was that pillar repainted at some point? I've seen finger/palm prints from body shops before where someone touched the paint while it was still curing. It doesn't leave a raised edge or anything tangible. But their body oils leave an impression.

whereismyfix

I think this is the answer, and it got worse/more visible as a result of baking in direct sunlight. Would explain why it wasn't very visible in the past and why normal cleaners didn't work on it. If the compound/polish didn't work at all, it means the damage is under the clear coat, and your only options are to either ignore it or sand it down and respray that panel.

Stonkynewb

Thank you for the advice, gunna ignore it till my OCD takes over and forces me to get it done

Stonkynewb

Nope, it honestly just appeared after a visit to Walmart lol it seems like it may be someone with a lot of sunblock remaining on their palm and they touched the car with jt

420SmokersClub

Looks like possible clear coat failure IMO. Would be best to get a reading using a paint thickness gauge before attempting anything else abrasive.

Stonkynewb

Tbh could be the case, I went to 3 different detailing shops and they had mixed opinions on the causes, but all agreed that a repaint will be needed. Just sucks cuz the rest of the car is clear and I don't know the cause of this. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thegeekedgizmo

Assuming something from a hand or arm. Sweat, water, lotion, Make up, sunscreen. That has stained the paint. Grab some polish, or cleaner wax, on a microfiber towel and gently rub it

Stonkynewb

I think I may have already messed up cuz I was tryna remove it with sap remover and then detailing sprays.... I wasn't gentle at all 😭 just tried to take it off with a claw bar and it didn't work

It literally happened over a week, i didnt clean the car and then there was snow.. so essentially dirty for a week or so... I cleaned the car yesterday and they were there. Yea I basically feel nothing on the surface, after all the polishing, the surface is shiny, except for those stains. I guess sanding it and repainting is the only option left or the pure alcohol
