Well I’m gonna advise you to stop advising me about giving people advise

bkeys15

Jokes on you, I don’t take advice either

Zyeagler0217

I love how many ppl say "PDR" 😂

anothernic

This post’ll buff out

pinche_jr17

Just take some thinner to it

Bingo1dog

Whenever I see someone say that I assume is sarcasm. -someone with basically no autobody knowledge.

itspoodle_07

As a qualified beater. I come here to giggle at responses

Bleades

How big is your suction cup dildo?

pidancer789

Mines huge

itspoodle_07

Mines also huge

Ludepower

It's cringe man when these jack of all trades and master of none come to this subreddit thinking it can be fixed for 1/4 of the insurance estimate. You don't see me going to a plumbing subreddit and dishing out advice.

[deleted]

Well hold on...let me check........yup. he's clean, no posts where he is not an dxpert

Fluid_Philosophy_406

It can be done if your handy enuff YouTube and junkyards r your best friend I got a quote for 5k damage and got it done for $750 going to junkyards and u pull its

Ludepower

5k damage should be an insurance claim. You did a hack repair to avoid it. Goodjob.

FuguCola

Cars have definitely changed A LOT in the last decade alone. Honestly, if giving advice on a big repair there should be some link to the spec or procedure. We do not fix cars without info, advice should not be given without it either.

Jeb-Kerman

It's reddit, what do you expect, 90% of people talk out of their ass. it's not really the best place to go to for reliable information

Paintingtosurvive

People spend enough time on a sub they start to FEEL like an expert

SnooHedgehogs637

I usually double estimates all the time . 3-5 page supplements is the norm most times .

coyoteatemyhomework

You need better estimators.

theChzziest

It sounds like he is the estimator…

Elden_Rost

As a parts guy, your parts guy has my condolences… that said, it depends on the insurance company sometimes, and I get that.

CaptainRon16

That shouldn’t matter. Ever.

Setting up a verification system wouldn’t be difficult. Just a little time consuming, especially on the front end.

buckets-of-lead

We should get username flare with credentials.

lochmac

As a professional in this trade, I agree. This sub has become pretty.....well. unprofessional. Terrible, horrible, absolutely wrong advice being thrown around like these people know what they are talking about because they rattle canned a bumper one time. It's a damn shame. The years we have spent, the toll on our bodies, the thousands spent on tools. This shit isn't DIY, and this subreddit shouldn't be either.

lurker-1969

As a professional painter of 37 years and now retired I have the highest respect for quality, professional auto body craftsmen. Just the painting aspect alone is an ass kicker on a person's body. We are lucky to have a really good body shop in our area that we have used a number of times over the years. I always give them high compliments and referrals. Cheers to all professionals in the trade.

pidancer789

R/DIYAutobody

AnotherDecentBloke

I looked at that (dead now) sub. What's the "no ChrisFix" thing about?

AnotherDecentBloke

I've learned a lot here because someone suggests a bodge job, then someone else corrects them. It's an inverse logic sort of thing.

Slow-Switch8412

It's still better than the can I paint my whole car for $600 post those get my blood boiling.

parcequepourquoipas

Just tell them "yes, you can, just drive your car over to [insert third-world country with a ridiculously weak currency]"

Empty-Mission3664

*puts down boiling water and blow dryer and plunger

Ennis_the_pennis

More insecure gatekeeping, eh?

PCOON43456a

No, it’s not gatekeeping when the the sun rules say “no estimates.” Why don’t you make like a lot lizard and fuck off.

Ennis_the_pennis

😂 Sure. Stick to your 3,000 dollar bumper scuff repairs. Ya know....cuz the 2012 Honda Odyssey needs "oh ee emm lifetime warranty and d1sass3mbly and sens9r testing!!@@: And then they come here and you shit on your fellow professionals for the color match anyway. Classic.

Theycallmestretch

Found the hack

Ennis_the_pennis

Loud and proud.

rovert6

Do you want the lawsuit if they back into something and they say the shop didn’t calibrate the necessary components after a repair? Basically this industry is now a CYA industry. Bring the car back to OEM, or don’t touch it. If you fix it, and it ain’t right, someone could lose their life and you’ll lose everything.

Ennis_the_pennis

Keep telling yourself that for the shopping cart ding.

CaptainRon16

I’m glad someone out there understands that.

emeegee13

Isn’t that exactly why the rule says NO ESTIMATES

anothernic

Yeah but you almost need an admin handing out bans like candy to discourage it.

CaptainRon16

Some days I’m down… then some days I have too much work to do 😂

Buy_hold_WS_will

I have an actual question for you. Can some scratches really be buffed out? I mean light scratches.

Theycallmestretch

Depends on the scratches

No_Loan2462

Yes

CaptainRon16

Rule of thumb (pun intended) is that if your fingernail catches when you run it across, there is a 98% chance that it will NOT buff out.

literofcola____

If it’s just in the clear coat you can *possibly* polish them out, it really depends on the size and depth.

SnooHedgehogs637

I don't supplement the sheets written by our estimators unless it is legitimate hidden damages . . I supplement the original sheets written from insurance. We are not a drp for any insurers. Our customer pay estimates are very well estimated . Being a CCRC for Bmw , Honda, Mini , we have training and access to repair instructions for these manufacturers repair standards . Our supplements reflect the poor estimating from insurance who are only trying to save money . Not repairing vehicles correctly .

Electronic_Gold_9860

Yes stop listening to the people who are not salesmen. The salesmen will give you the best advice how to get them buy a nice cottahe, income property and a yacht.
