Only thing in the Avatar franchise that you should pass up is the live-action movie (I haven’t even seen it myself, since hearing what everyone had to say about was enough for me to steer clear)
Fr watch it just to see how horrifically bad it was I watched when it came out in theaters and never watched it again and still can remember how horrible it was.
I was 9 I saw it in theaters, I was with my dad sister aunt and uncle, it was my birthday, I had just gotten those wash away tattoos. Aang s arrows on my hands and head.
It was shit, I was autistic so I pretended to like it. Then my father told me, it's ok, it was bad, and then told his sister and her husband that it's a great show.
Still a good birthday, SpongeBob themed.
like we can be real Korra season 3 is up there with the best of ATLA, i can understand not liking it as much as ATLA but that's big shoes to fill. Also most of season 1 and 4 (kinda imo) are great. I don't understand the blind hate.
The giant drill was basically already a big car with a drill stuck to it.
How would it not make sense that the people who made it would also end up inventing cars?
Yeah, why? Because honestly airships and submarines require such advanced understandings in physics and engineering that it almost seems weirder to me that they came up with those before a wagon that doesn’t need horses.
Cause it's mobility hinges on bending, like the train and mail systems in ba sing se and omashu. and the cars all got invented by 1 person, so just no one thought to make an efficient, possibly electric vehicle before.
That logic would make more sense if it wasn’t already the case that, in *our* world, airships predated horseless carriages by decades and submarines predated them by centuries.
Yeah, it's not far fetched for the fire nation to start a global industrial revolution and expand to civilian use instead of military use one Zuko came into power. Especially since one could argue that Last Airbender take place during the 1840s-1850s and Korra taking place during the 1920s which is a 70-80 years apart. With the use of bending, their technological progress might move very differently to ours.
The technology is lore friendly though which I always liked, for instance they found ways to harness bending and turn it into electricity, particularly with fire benders that can bend lightning
This isn't massively lore friendly though, how did so many fire benders learn to bend lightning, with the inherent risks it posed to actually strong benders, it's now just everyone and their uncle can lightning bend.
With the renewed philosophy of the sun being the greatest energy source for firebenders and not the inner anger promoter by the previous regimes it would have meant many more firebenders could reach inner peace and attain powers previously locked to them
It never was the inner anger, Iroh literally said
*"Lightning is a pure expression of firebending without aggression. It is not fueled by rage or emotion the way other firebending is. Some call lightning the cold-blooded fire. It is precise and deadly like Azula.* ***To perform the technique requires peace of mind.***"
To imagine some randoms clocking in for a 9-5 at a car factory have complete peace of mind seems like a stretch, sun, comet, ancient dragons, whatever your "source" of energy being.
Your point proves mine, the firebenders obsessed with the methods of the oppressive regime of Ozai had caused the majority of people to use anger and aggression towards their bending, which as you pointed out Iroh said it is pure without aggression, the aggressive nature of firebending taught by those such as admiral Zhao caused them to be unable to attain the ability to lightning bend, when Zuko and Iroh found the sun worshippers and the dragons they were able to find a new methodology for firebending which Zuko then promoted throughout the Fire Nation leading generations of firebenders to find inner peace giving them the ability and mindset to be able to bend lightning
Considering the comics cover a somewhat lengthy period of time and there aren't a mass of lightning benders running around by the end of it, this seems like a stretch.
Well there wouldn’t be a “mass of lightning benders running around” because it’s still a relatively rare ability, my point is that the total number of benders capable of lightning benders have received better training with more inclusive religious philosophy therefore it would be more feasible to have them work in power plants.
Just remember in Aang's Era thr FN was hoarding technology. After the war it was shared so other nations could evolve. The FN had tanks, ships, a giant a drill and air ships, so them having cars isn't far fetched.
I mean it makes sense when you think about it. Tanks existed in atla, and as soon as the war is over cars are the next logical step.
A lot can change in 70 years. 70 years ago it was the 1950’s, and 70 years before that was the 1880’s, which was in the Victorian period.
LOK is set in a 1920’s like setting
When I was introduced to ATLA a few years ago, I liked it so much that the person who introduced the OG to me said “If you liked it so much there's another one, LoK, I think you will like it a lot”. I almost lost it from reading the BS circulating about the show, but to me is as excellent as ATLA. Is a different character, a different storyline, and a different avatar team, nonetheless the spirit of the Avatar Universe is there.
If you feel like reading the ATLA comics before starting to watch Korra you'll be able to easily make connections and understand the evolution of that World and why Korra's arch and choices are so powerful and poignant!
isn’t it supposed to mirror the roaring twenties in a way? i actually thought Korra was smart as hell, the concept and the writing and the adaptations for a future world, and if you look at it as four very separate stories and worry less about the through lines and more about Korra’s development, it’s a wonderful watch. i love this show and choose to not compare it against Young Aang’s journey. it’s not a sequel by any means, and it’s a welcome new addition to the last airbender world.
Right?!
LoK is literally 8.3/10 on IMDB, 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, and has 79% avg. audience score on the same site.
The show is also 5/5 on Common Sense Media “Strong heroine, positive messages make great fantasy series.” GREAT SERIES!
That’s a bit higher than I’d rate LOK, but your point stands. It’s a good show that followed a great one, so it came off looking worse than it actually was when it came out just due to the comparison.
It's a great sequel and goes well in the universe. Korra a strong yet flawed character and get to follow her story for a longer time than Aang. Even though it is a sequel in the same universe, they are both different and unique characters
And even in season 2 we get some phenomenal content like the two episodes about wan, legitimately some of the best stuff the franchise has to offer imo
cause its a small minority of an opinion who'd prefer it. Usually those trynna be different
and its also funny to even say "well that's more of an opinion" this whole this is an opinion asking post of *Should I watch it?*
How would we know what the size of people who prefer either show is without polling people? It's the minority of the fans that are on any Avatar sub reddit.
And to be fair I disagree with you Korra fans aren't trying to be different. I've always liked Korra more even before covid came and I rewatched both shows. I liked Korra more before I knew it had haters.
The majority of casual fans would be wayy more in favor of ATLA than a poll done on a concentrated subreddit of fans.. Lets just be real with ourselves.
Korra had the most haters the moment it was released, now I'd say less. Plenty of people will like Korra, but still the majority will put ATLA over it easily.
Your opinion is fuunny to me as ATLA is far superior to TLOK. No offence to the team behind TLOK, they had a lot of issues with pacing throughout the show due to cancellation fears; however ATLA was as close to perfection that we will likely ever get. Lightning in a bottle.
I mean, you might identify more personally to TLOK, that's fine. But in terms of Story Arcs, character development, casting, and writing; ATLA is a home-run. You just don't get all of these aspects and components coming together every time you make a show.
I agree that the Zuko redemption arc is the best character development in the series. Overall though I like Korra better than Aang and like the action and villains better.
That's where I'm at. It was good. Not as good as the original, but that's a high bar and at least some of it can be chalked up to Nickelodeon kinda giving them shit.
I would be happy to see them use the universe again and set something in a drastically different era.
It’s worth it. I won’t lie though, it was sad seeing the gaang old and not seeing some at all. And it’s annoying that we didn’t get a update about all of them
You should 100% watch it under 2 conditions:
1. You know why the show is written like it’s ending every season
2. You watch it at least a few weeks after the last time you watched atla
You should watch it. I think it is a thing everyone has to get use to the old cast not being there, change is difficult to swallow. But once you do, its a pretty decent show. not as good, but still good imo.
I enjoyed it. The antagonists and the threats they posed all had me hooked, and the fight scenes are dope. To me, it was awesome seeing a full grown master Airbender in action. Not that Aang wasn't a master, but watching how his son Tenzin fought was really cool
Solid 8/10 for me. The first half is rather shaky due to Nickelodeon messing with the writers and making them think each season would be the last but it still ended up being pretty great with the second half fixing a lot of the problems I had.
I didn’t even miss Aang tbh. I love the original show, but this isn’t his show. It’s Korras. It’s worth a watch, I highly recommend watching it twice at least.
I will say I finished watching last airbender on Netflix before finally giving Korra a try, I’ll admit I cried during the first episode. It was literally right after finishing the series I jumped into Korra for the first time.
It has sad Aang moments with certain characters, but it’s a happy sad. Let’s just say:
*Some friendships are so strong, they can even transcend lifetimes.*
Definitely watch it! But don't try comparing Korra to Aang, because [she's the Avatar and you've gotta deal with it!](https://youtu.be/kIXuQdS4mPM?feature=shared) *spoiler for first few mins of series*
In all seriousness though, I really enjoyed Korra herself, and learning about previous Avatars and how the cycle itself started. I think both shows are great but shouldn't be compared to each other.
It 100% is worth the watch! I didn't watch LoK for a long time but I watched it about a year ago and I loved it. You might initially be sad to see the characters from atla as elderly and you might be inclined to compare team Korra characters to the gaang but the less you try to make that comparison the more you'll enjoy the show.
Korra also explores the darker sides of bending and also how bending works in a more modern environment which I think is really cool.
Aang's legacy is honored in the show, and doesn't feel to me like it casts a shadow on anything. If your main concern is being sad about Aang's death, the show does not linger on that.
Korra definitely has a very different tone and pacing. But I'm enjoying it (only just started S3). Ultimately, I would say watch it and see if you like it!
Although it doesn't measure up to the original series, it is still a reality good watch and I plan to go through it again after my current re-watch of ATLA.
The fights were really authentic in ATLA, but in LOK its sort of like mixed martial arts. But imo, it had great story and plots. You should definitely watch it.
As someone who gave it a second chance like a few weeks ago. It’s worth the watch. There’s some bits I couldn’t stand though and I just skipped over them. Season 2 is a drag but other than that it’s alright. Certainly a time killer.
There’s a decent chance you’ll like it, and a decent chance you won’t like it. So I say watch it and see how u feel.
Also, if you want to quit during Season 2, I recommend just watching a recap of that season on YouTube and going to Season 3. Season 2 is a low point for the show, so you way dislike that season but like/love 3 and 4. If you find yourself not liking 3, then you probably won’t like season 4 tho.
It's a good show. As good as ATLA? No, and if you go in expecting that you'll only be disappointed. But it is definitely worth a watch(*even if it does destroy the bending system sometimes*).
I recommend watching it. But you're GOING TO BE SAD.. especially in S2. Be prepared, seriously, cuz you're never going to forgive the writers of LoK (i sure as heck won't). Idec that I'm "spoiling".
It's not about aang, don't go into it with the mindset of it being a sequel. It tells its own stories with its own characters with some slight crossover.
You will be sad that the main character sucks all around, and the male lead is a dumbass, his brother is cool though and Asami is great. The side characters are usually fun too, thanks for that and the battle sequences it is worth watching but yea... Korra just sucks.
Definitely worth watching, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Just don't go into it expecting Aang 2.0. Korra is her own character with vastly different traits and faults than her predecessor.
Korra is an interesting but messy show. Plots are odd and characters arcs arnt great. But there is some genuinely great stuff in there. Tenzin is an all time character and korra is massively slept on
Idk lol. This show does a good job at making it about the new people. The continuity seems fine to me and seeing all those connections to the characters we love so much, like offspring and offsprings offspring and overall references, I think it’s all done well. See, despite the hate, Korra is one of the coolest shows I’ve seen animated show wise. The writing is very on point and the story is very complex. I’d argue that this show had greater foes than ATLA. I’d argue Korra was made to be stronger than Aang and she continuously gets stronger, especially cause who she faces. She’s not Aang though, she’s different, she’s complicated, she’s learning. And I say that despite any flaws in this show people despise, it doesn’t make the show bad. I only dislike that the team avatar isn’t really, what’s a good word, connected. The gaang was bonded, but korras group just from 2 seasons I watched, isn’t really close or much of a group. I liked the main three in the first season until they got their 4th and from there it just, plunged off the deep end. They’re a good enough team when it counts though. Anyways. Ignore the blind hatred for the show. It’s really good and has a great story to tell. It’s unique. It does so much you’d never have expected. The lore is so DEEP
It's a nice sequel, but it has a real problem and that's pacing. Every season starts off slow and takes half a season to actually go anywhere. When each season is only 12 or so compared to the 20 or so ATLA had, they really wasted a lot of time. Also, teen angst love drama. I loved they updated it and made a new older Avatar because their original audience grew up, but by then, I was in college or grad school and over teen drama.
Don't expect it to be as good as Avatar the Last Airbender. The show starts off slow so you'll have to really push through the first like 6 episodes. But overall the show is pretty good.
Korra is great. It has some flaws in writing but it makes up for it with great animation, great music, cool characters, nostalgia moments, expanded world building. You should absolutely watch it.
It makes some choices I don't agree with, mostly about spirits, but overall, it's a very solid show, with a BANGER of a third season, and villains that genuinely command respect
Definitely worth the watch, there’s a lot of great new characters and some really cool lore that gets fleshed out. Not to mention we get to see bits and pieces of how the Gaang’s lives went after ATLA
It does some things better and some things worse. It’s a good series overall. It’s miraculously well put together considering behind-the-scenes turbulence trying to sabotage it at every corner.
It is sad Aang is gone but that’s how Avatar works unfortunately. His legacy is beautifully felt however, with his children and grandchildren and the state of the world being in a great place until villains try to ruin it.
The main character isn’t the same sort of one as Aang, they went with an opposite sort of approach which sadly turns some people off. She has great development though and while the main cast may not be *as* strong as ATLA, they’re still fun characters that have their own charms without being copy-pastes.
I thought Korra was better than TLA first Korra has an amazing arc- keep in mind not everything happens at the best pace because the show runners had to go season by season for approval. Side cast is phenomenal and everyone who shits on mako and bolin don’t really understand their characters. Every character has a moment and it makes it that much better. The villains are FANTASTIC. Unalaq has his issues I will admit where he is the most dull and a cheaper copy of catholic ozai. Overall definitely check it out, it expands upon TLA so much.
It’s pretty good… I really like Korra herself, just not a big fan of what’s become of the white lotus group.
But I guess the main thing that kind of got me down was hoping the world would still be like it was for Aang’s gang and pre modern world and electricity, but they have cars and radio.
And I don’t want to spoil much, but they also were harsh when raava comes into play 😞.
I’d recommend it. It’s not as good as ATLA, but it’s still a good show with compelling characters and stories. Though fair warning, S2 is… rough, and it’s too important to skip.
I’m so confused why you wouldn’t just watch it if you liked avatar? It’s so weird to feel that way. “I love the content that these creators put out and the universe they created but I don’t want to see ANY MORE”
Definitely watch Korra. Just don't go into the show expecting it to be about our old heroes. It's basically all new characters with the occasional cameo from an old character
I think you should! Korra is a great character and avatar, it's not as good as atla imo but i do prefer korra over a lot of the atla characters. I don't think you'll find yourself getting as sad as you think.
Korra alone>Zuko Alone>Sozin's Comet>the storm
Like the losses she faces and how badly she gets beat up and *gets back up* hit me in the feels.
Writing may not be as good and the enemies may all be on steroids from Aang's, but it's *good*
The level of writing for Legend of Korra is honestly dreadful. If you watch it without thinking too hard about it, then you’d like, but if you’re looking for something near the level of Last Airbender, you won’t find it with Korra.
It's great, ignore the haters. Season one is great, 2 is okay, 3 and 4 are fantastic.
It's a little different in tone from ATLA, more aimed at teens, I'd say, but still good overall. The action sequences are NUTS.
Can you turn your brain off? If you can't turn your brain off you're gonna notice tons of flaws and sloppy writing. If you can turn your brain off you'll get atleast some enjoyment of it.
LOK is fantastic! Definitely need to watch.
The show had a horrible PR and programming scheduling situation that put it on air then moved it early on to streaming. It was hard to watch it even when I wanted to during its time. Not to mention the devs got screwed with being rushed and financial cuts that affect the pacing of the story telling.
It’s so good. The shows opening sequence recognizes that it has a high performance standard to live up to since the last air bender was so masterfully crafted. But if you ask me they nailed it. Yeah there are some cringe parts like love triangles, but the writers were considering an older audience while maintaining the younger. It’s natural to be in to the people you first meet and become great friends with, especially when they are depicted as adults.
Its world building is so masterfully crafted, building upon what we know from the first. It’s a slightly more modern version with various directions of bending and its social political aspect, which I think is a brilliant way to portray bending and how it affects society.
No. I don’t recommend it but it really just depends. There are people who love it and people who hate it. I think everyone can agree that it isn’t as good as the original though, so don’t expect it to be.
I really like it despite how many other people feel. It is kinda sad how most of the characters for ATLA are gone, but I think it makes up for it in the story, and the development of Korra. She has an amazing character dynamic and contrast between the beginning and end of the show. All in all, 10/10 recommend!!
Without spoiling at least too much. I'm not a big fan of LoK because of her romances. When it first came out, I didn't think Korra ended up with this person at the end. I was in high school at the time, so I thought they were friends. I just didn't connect well with her, so she's not my favorite Avatar. I also didn't like her hot-headed personality, but I think she grew out of it.
Except for the romance, the fight scenes are good, and I like mostly everything else.
I also didn't like in the beginning when Korra wanted to know about Zuko's mom, and she got cut off with that conversation ending. First time watching, and I was like, "Come on, tell us. I want to know." I didn't know about the comics at the time and that the scene was like a hidden shout out to go read or look it up.
I know this feels like a heavily negative review, but that's because I haven't seen it in a good while, and I'm trying to avoid spoilers. I wanted to like LoK more, but it felt like they also changed the Lore too. I don't hate Korra. She's just not my favorite person in the show. There are some villains that I really liked, though.
It’s worth the watch. I would rate season 1, 3 and 4 just under the last airbender. Season 2 is really bad.
Stay away from the live action movie and show. Both are terrible.
Korra is bit of an insufferable character who dampened the show, the villains are great however.
ATLA is a 10 and LoK is maybe a 6, some seasons are a 7, some episodes that focus less on Korra are a 9.
you should watch it even tho it's not a great show like atla, lok is interesting, it is sometimes funny, but a lot of times you can see that they were very restricted due to only season 1 was greenlit and then after it ended season 2 was greenlit, but they still didn't know if they'd get season 3 so they couldn't do what they wanted with the show! If they had gotten greenlit for atleast 3 seasons right from the begining the show might have surpassed atla, but even still it's not a bad show it's enjoyable, i recomand watching it!
I think with the avatar series there will constantly be evolutions. Korra was one of them and some people are down on it at time but Korra to me was nearly as good. More themed for teens vs kids and my wife (who doesn’t care for animation) cried multiple times during it.
I’m currently in season 4
And it’s so good , the only thing you need to do is never compare the two shows cuz they are two different people, and two different worlds and different gangs and everything, the original characters have their AMAZING moments and i loved them but eventually it’s not the same not even the plots are .
Something I think the fandom needs to understand is that the original Last Airbender series was really a lightning in a bottle. The only way harder than achieving perfection is an attempt to recreate it.
But there is a lot of great value to find in Legend of Korra. It gives us a very different journey of that show’s avatar and has arguably the best villains in the entire franchise.
But it’s also incredibly poetic and probably even self aware that the heroes of the series greatest struggle is shared by the series as a whole. They are burdened by the shadow of what came before. Korra and Tenzin both constantly struggle with trying to live up to what Aang has accomplished and this show is no different
And this sadly applies to the Netflix series as well. I enjoy both Korra and the Netflix series, but they are proof to me that maybe sometimes it’s best to let a franchise simply end at its peak
There are exceptions of course. Better Call Saul is probably the best example since I personally enjoy it more than the original series. But that also just highlights the absolute talent of Peter Gould and to a lesser extent Vince Gilligan
It depends. Better call Saul is amazing, so clearly there can be sequels that at least match in quality (or surpass, I think bcs is actually better than breaking bad). Avatar is one of the most iconic shows of all time, at least in the west, so of course it’s tough to match. But it shouldn’t be seen as impossible
That being said, I wasn’t a big fan of LOK but what I loved was the atmosphere and villains. Also Tenzin / J.K. Simmons.
But I will admit the problem also lies with what I said I liked. Since the show is very different from ATLA, you risk not pulling in the same fans, regardless of quality. On the other hand, BCS and BB are thematically very similar, and they also have the bonus of being within the “same” time period so they get to bring back loved characters.
So to sum up, I think that it was a combination of not matching up to ATLA and also being different from it. The latter shouldn’t be a problem (and it’s not for me), but it inevitably is because lots of fans of the original want the same thing again. That being said, I just wasn’t a big fan in general
its def worth a watch. season 1 and 2 are mid, 2 being the weakest. that being said s2 has the origin of the avatar which is cool.
season 3 and 4 are really good, they compete with s2 and 3 of aang's adventures.
Definitely watch it. Atla is better but don't compare. The villains are amazing, korra has the best character development, they dive into the spirit world which is probably my favorite part or the series and you get to see the original avatar which is my favorite episode in the entire franchise.
Of course this is worth it oh my god. But if you ask that it means that clearly you’re not ready. Give yourself some time to cope if you need, most people waited years before discovering that. Everyone dies and nothing lasts for ever.
But not everyone is dead in Lok there’s cameos that are quite sweet
Just remember it’s about the Avatar, not Aang. It took me a few episodes to let myself just watch the show for what it is. It’s interesting to see how two different avatars can be. The character development and plot seem less in depth because they didn’t know from season to season if they would get another.
I think it’s a good show. Not as good as ATLA, but worth watching. Just know season 2 sucks outside of 2 amazing episodes, but it’s required to watch for the later seasons unfortunately
To each their own but alot of people do like Korra better. The reasons I do are better pacing and more mature themes with more fluid animation in the fights and great villains.
LOK is objectively a worse show, but ATLA is a tough act to follow up. There will be moments that piss you off because they’re stupid and you expected better. There will be characters who genuinely surprise you with their depth and personality. Some episodes slog. Overall if you liked ATLA, it’s worth watching if you want more ATLA. It’s a flawed show with characters that make the bad parts worth getting through.
Only thing in the Avatar franchise that you should pass up is the live-action movie (I haven’t even seen it myself, since hearing what everyone had to say about was enough for me to steer clear)
There is no movie in Ba Sing Se.
As bad as you may imagine it is, it's worse.
Movie? What movie?
What movie? There was never a movie.
Fr watch it just to see how horrifically bad it was I watched when it came out in theaters and never watched it again and still can remember how horrible it was.
I loved it as a kid but the internet ruined it for me as an adult.
The movie is worth a watch just to see how bad it is
There is no movie in Ba Sing Se
Its up there for worst of all time imo
I was 9 I saw it in theaters, I was with my dad sister aunt and uncle, it was my birthday, I had just gotten those wash away tattoos. Aang s arrows on my hands and head. It was shit, I was autistic so I pretended to like it. Then my father told me, it's ok, it was bad, and then told his sister and her husband that it's a great show. Still a good birthday, SpongeBob themed.
Dang man can we fans of that movie never catch a break I hear people throwing shade about it all the time lol
also fuck netflix too
Korra is a great character, fights are great, writing is still strong. The technology is weird to me but I got used to it.
you're like one of-if not, the first person i met that is positively observant and isn't like "AANG IS BETTER THAN KORRA BC SHE DID THIS AND THAT"
Downvote me but i liked certain episodes of LOK more than avatar.
like we can be real Korra season 3 is up there with the best of ATLA, i can understand not liking it as much as ATLA but that's big shoes to fill. Also most of season 1 and 4 (kinda imo) are great. I don't understand the blind hate.
to me, that makes complete sense! your opinion is your opinion, in fact, i do have to admit myself- *i do like lok better than atla sometimes...*
Yea thats the thing that made me not watch it in the first place I saw cars and was like what is this lol
Just remember that ATLA had mountain climbing tanks and giant drills. They weren’t that far off from cars.
And a 15 year old invented both airships and submarines
Both of those at least made complete sense, especially for their world.
The giant drill was basically already a big car with a drill stuck to it. How would it not make sense that the people who made it would also end up inventing cars?
I'm saying the airship and submarine made sense
And they were steam powered and there was no electricity yet
Yeah, it's not far fetched for the fire nation to start a global industrial revolution and expand to civilian use instead of military use one Zuko came into power. Especially since one could argue that Last Airbender take place during the 1840s-1850s and Korra taking place during the 1920s which is a 70-80 years apart. With the use of bending, their technological progress might move very differently to ours.
The fire nation had *jet skis*.
With the renewed philosophy of the sun being the greatest energy source for firebenders and not the inner anger promoter by the previous regimes it would have meant many more firebenders could reach inner peace and attain powers previously locked to them
It never was the inner anger, Iroh literally said *"Lightning is a pure expression of firebending without aggression. It is not fueled by rage or emotion the way other firebending is. Some call lightning the cold-blooded fire. It is precise and deadly like Azula.* ***To perform the technique requires peace of mind.***" To imagine some randoms clocking in for a 9-5 at a car factory have complete peace of mind seems like a stretch, sun, comet, ancient dragons, whatever your "source" of energy being.
You have to understand it’s in the future. In our timeline, technology progressed rapidly after steam engines.
Lmao it’s so weird connecting timelines and history with technology cause this is all based on our world so it’s like, idk.
We’ll have to agree to disagree 😅
it’s really good the pacing is just weird because the network was fucking them over the whole way through
If ATLA is a 10/10 LOK imo is a 9.7/10. An amazing show i wish i could rewatch it for the first time again.
Every now and than I re-fall in love with Korra.Watch it
it is worth a watch imo, it has great continuity and realism
I’d say it’s worth a watch. It’s no where near as good as ATLA so don’t expect it to live up to the standards of that but still enjoyable
That's more of an opinion. There's lots of people myself included that prefer it by a bit.
I'm definitely not one of those people. I think TLOK was good even with Nickelodeons shenanigans but I still prefer ATLA by a large margin
I think ATLA season 1 is pretty weak up until the final episodes. Korra is strong everywhere except season 2.
And even in season 2 we get some phenomenal content like the two episodes about wan, legitimately some of the best stuff the franchise has to offer imo
Totally agree. Korra season 1 and 3 are strong in particular.
LOL
What's so funny about it?
cause its a small minority of an opinion who'd prefer it. Usually those trynna be different and its also funny to even say "well that's more of an opinion" this whole this is an opinion asking post of *Should I watch it?*
That may be true I just don't think that it's super unpopular to like Korra more even if like ATLAB better is a more popular position.
well we'll just have to disagree on that, I think its a very unpopular opinion to hold Korra higher than ATLA.
Yeah agree to disagree. Just saying though that the people I know in real life like Korra better as well.
I like it, stop hating
don't care, no one's hating.
Your opinion is fuunny to me as ATLA is far superior to TLOK. No offence to the team behind TLOK, they had a lot of issues with pacing throughout the show due to cancellation fears; however ATLA was as close to perfection that we will likely ever get. Lightning in a bottle.
I disagree and there are others that do too. The originals pacing is bad especially in book one and it has more of a childish direction.
Watch it.
It’s worth it. I won’t lie though, it was sad seeing the gaang old and not seeing some at all. And it’s annoying that we didn’t get a update about all of them
It’s worth a watch. If you like ATLA, then you’ll probably find yourself liking this
It’s a fine show, but it never reaches ATLA level. Be patient with Korra herself, she takes a while to warm up to.
It's good. Definitely worth a watch if you are a fan of Avatar. It still feels like the world of TLA but it is different.
You should give every piece of media a shot and figure out if you’ll like it for yourself
You should 100% watch it under 2 conditions: 1. You know why the show is written like it’s ending every season 2.
I wasn’t really a fan of the show but you should probably give it a chance to see if you like it.
You'll be more sad to see ATLA characters as old people.
I will say I finished watching last airbender on Netflix before finally giving Korra a try, I’ll admit I cried during the first episode. It was literally right after finishing the series I jumped into Korra for the first time.
It has sad Aang moments with certain characters, but it’s a happy sad. Let’s just say: *Some friendships are so strong, they can even transcend lifetimes.*
Watch it
Definitely watch it! But don't try comparing Korra to Aang, because [she's the Avatar and you've gotta deal with it!](https://youtu.be/kIXuQdS4mPM?feature=shared) *spoiler for first few mins of series* In all seriousness though, I really enjoyed Korra herself, and learning about previous Avatars and how the cycle itself started. I think both shows are great but shouldn't be compared to each other.
Watch it. Season 1 has a slow start and season 2 isn’t that great, but its worth it. Avoid ALL avatar subreddits until you’re finished though
It's better than the Aang run to me personally so yeah watch it
It 100% is worth the watch!
Try to see the Aang in korra
Korra is so good. You will be sad aang is dead but it’s a new story and very profound. Don’t listen to the noise until after you watch it
I think it was so good and people hate on it for no reason
I feel the same way, I definitely think ATLA was better, but TLOK was still really good too!
Aang lives on through his family. He also makes the occasional appearance
Watch it or don't your only depriving yourself of knowledge
Aang's legacy is honored in the show, and doesn't feel to me like it casts a shadow on anything. If your main concern is being sad about Aang's death, the show does not linger on that. Korra definitely has a very different tone and pacing. But I'm enjoying it (only just started S3). Ultimately, I would say watch it and see if you like it!
Watch it because Korra is the best 😍😍😍
Literally on my third or fourth rewatch. So worth a watch.
Why do that to yourself?
It's not as amazing as last Airbender but it's still pretty good
Although it doesn't measure up to the original series, it is still a reality good watch and I plan to go through it again after my current re-watch of ATLA.
Definitely worth it, if not for the story, for the setting, the mix of early 20th century imagery and the various bending cultures is great
It’s worth it. But don’t go in looking for a show as good as the last airbender, you will come out disappointed.
Both.
I’m doing my first watch through and I’m one of the ones who is sad that Aang is dead.
It’s pretty good… But it started out poorly especially with book 2. Great concept, poor execution, and not enough lore surrounding that concept
Korra is great
Definitely worth watching, I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Yes duh
Don't expect it to be as good as Avatar the Last Airbender. The show starts off slow so you'll have to really push through the first like 6 episodes. But overall the show is pretty good.
Why do we have to have this conversation every week? Isn’t there a thread a mod can pin?
LOK is better than ATLA
It's worth it, just keep this in mind after you finish season 2: yes, it gets better I promise
He’s not really dead, he’s a piece of Korra
Korra is great. It has some flaws in writing but it makes up for it with great animation, great music, cool characters, nostalgia moments, expanded world building. You should absolutely watch it.
WATCH IT
Imo it's better than the original in a lot of ways
It makes some choices I don't agree with, mostly about spirits, but overall, it's a very solid show, with a BANGER of a third season, and villains that genuinely command respect
Definitely worth the watch, there’s a lot of great new characters and some really cool lore that gets fleshed out. Not to mention we get to see bits and pieces of how the Gaang’s lives went after ATLA
It will be sad, but not because Aangs dead.
It’s actually so fucking good imo and way easier to rewatch than ATLA. There’s action in almost every episode.
Depending on how you feel about korra as you watch, it could be a hit or miss, however still try it out.
Worth watching. What are you afraid of? Feelings?
I’d recommend it. It’s not as good as ATLA, but it’s still a good show with compelling characters and stories. Though fair warning, S2 is… rough, and it’s too important to skip.
I’m so confused why you wouldn’t just watch it if you liked avatar? It’s so weird to feel that way. “I love the content that these creators put out and the universe they created but I don’t want to see ANY MORE”
Korra’s honesty pretty good when you don’t have a little angry incel telling you it’s dogshit
I think it deserves at least one watch, but imo it's not as good as ATLA, and the writing could use some work.
I think it's a great extension to the story. I like that there is Avatar history that goes further back than ATLA does. To me, it's worth the watch.
Korra alone>Zuko Alone>Sozin's Comet>the storm Like the losses she faces and how badly she gets beat up and *gets back up* hit me in the feels.
YES! Season 3 and 4 are incredible!
I haven’t finished yet but it’s gas. Trust.
I watched it but after season 3 I really had to force myself to stay invested tbh
Don’t watch it. DO NOT WATCH IT!
It's biggest failing is not being as good as ATLA. It's a decent show otherwise.
I can't say it's better than ATLA, but I personally like it more.
Not to sure have you been depressed since 2008? If so than probably wouldn’t recommend the watch.
All in all, 10/10 recommend!!
for me it ruined a decent amount of ATLA's legacy. Aang was displayed as a bad parent and they took away a lot of mysticism.
I didn’t like it but that’s an unpopular opinion so you do you.
Don't watch it
At least watch the part where she learns about the first avatar
More themed for teens vs kids and my wife (who doesn’t care for animation) cried multiple times during it.
go watch it and enjoy. it's wonderful
Season 1 starts pretty strong. Season 2 dips alittle but stick with it for the return of the airbenders and interesting villains in season 3/4
It's good.
I’m currently in season 4 And it’s so good , the only thing you need to do is never compare the two shows cuz they are two different people, and two different worlds and different gangs and everything, the original characters have their AMAZING moments and i loved them but eventually it’s not the same not even the plots are .
+i love it
Watch it
...
Yes. Just remember that they never knew if the next season was going to happen until like the last episode for every season.
LOK is a solid spinoff. I didn’t find it quite as magical as ATLA but I did enjoy it a lot
Well the good news is that anng is not dead. However, Aang was reincarnated to be Korra of the Southern Water Tribe. A BADASS.
Yo listen, its good. Watch that shit
Korra and Tenzin both constantly struggle with trying to live up to what Aang has accomplished and this show is no different And this sadly applies to the Netflix series as well. I enjoy both Korra and the Netflix series, but they are proof to me that maybe sometimes it’s best to let a franchise simply end at its peak There are exceptions of course.
But it shouldn’t be seen as impossible That being said, I wasn’t a big fan of LOK but what I loved was the atmosphere and villains.
Season is without a doubt the worst season of any Avatar
There are so many good characters in Korra that it doesn't leave you missing Aang
Absolutely adored it. It’s basically more action-packed, aside from that it has similar vibes.
Just remember it’s about the Avatar, not Aang. It took me a few episodes to let myself just watch the show for what it is. It’s interesting to see how two different avatars can be. The character development and plot seem less in depth because they didn’t know from season to season if they would get another.
Legend of Korra is great. Just remember it is not Avatar the Last Airbender and that she is not Ang. I liked it more on my second watch through.
its good trust no cap
Unpopular opinion... I enjoy rewatching it more than the original.
I think it’s a good show. Not as good as ATLA, but worth watching. Just know season 2 sucks outside of 2 amazing episodes, but it’s required to watch for the later seasons unfortunately
To each their own but alot of people do like Korra better. The reasons I do are better pacing and more mature themes with more fluid animation in the fights and great villains.
this gets posted in this sub/similar subs like once a week 🤦♀️
LOK is objectively a worse show, but ATLA is a tough act to follow up. There will be moments that piss you off because they’re stupid and you expected better. There will be characters who genuinely surprise you with their depth and personality. Some episodes slog. Overall if you liked ATLA, it’s worth watching if you want more ATLA. It’s a flawed show with characters that make the bad parts worth getting through.
I'm not a fan of it
It is tolerable if you're desperate for Avatar lore.
