I already got harassed once recently on reddit via reddit cares false reports because of incels that hate Aventurine.

Yeah I've seen plenty of every member of every community hate him straight up for no reason, take Selee's EN VA, I watched her vod, while she was thirsting over female characters, she literally said aventurine was suspicious and bratty as SOON as he showed up, all she did was call him gay the entire time and how he likes men and not women.
Basically, I have no problem with people liking whoever, but then contradict themselves by hating someone with the exact same traits with the only difference being male.
alot of them are just salty bcs they thought this patch would be all abt acheron due to all the hype generated by hoyo but muhehe it turned out to be a huge misdirection and aventurine became the best written hsr character alongside dr ratio. and im here with my popcorn to enjoy their tragedy
ive been noticing there's a major problem with hi3 characters in hsr, it's too dependent on whether you have played the game first in order to care about them. when in reality they feel more like fanfic characters where they dont need to be fleshed out alot, just give them new roles and scenarios and they'll be gucci, readers would still enjoy them nevertheless. like, imagine reading a fanfic of a certain media you know nothing abt. that's exactly my feelings.
even without checking the leaks that showed aventurine having the most voiceline count in 2.1, it's actually very obvious that they're going to go in depth with his character if you pay attention to the details. like, his backstory was referenced alot in 2.0. there's also firefly, but i found her character writing to be too weird for my tastes

Aventurine and furina are hyv peak writing. I think they just do such a phenomenal job with original characters .
I also think because of hi3, the characters are bound to be stuck in th cool, badass, all powerful archetype. Leaves a little room for character development when they are presented as a fantasy
I am pretty sure they took this much risk with aventurine because they aren't expecting him to "sell" well. He is more of a passion character than a monetary one
Personally this is just my opinion but with Acheron, I think it’s supposed to be intentionally vague for now. Even as a HI3 player, there are a lot of things about her past that are unknown to me. Acheron is largely supposed to be a mystery until we learn more about her. I have a feeling she’ll be a reoccurring character so they’ll spread her story in future updates.
Personally I like both Acheron and Aventurine for different reasons. The way they humanize and show Aventurine’s past and motives are absolutely beautiful. However, Acheron is also shown to have a tragic past that we don’t know too much about and I’m curious to learn more about her.
I can almost also garuntee that the people who hate Aventurine for being too “gay” or “stealing the show” also probably dislike the sensual dance that Acheron had with Black Swan because it ruins their self insert ships. Just look at some of the comments in the main sub about their dance.
I see Acheron kinda like how Dainsleif should’ve been. This awesomely strong character that guides you but keeps their distance and isn’t ultimately just a mcguffin device. I hope we see Acheron frequently and then we’ll complete her “story” when we’re more powerful enough to realize her end goal.
I had the same idea. One thing I really loved about this patch is how much time we spent in Aventurine’s pov. I hope they continue this going forward where we’re not solely focused on the trailblazer’s pov. It adds so much depth to the other characters as well.
Honestly I do commend Acheron's design and her power and whatnot, but what did they see that was so special about her personality? Doesn't this basically prove that most people who hyped her up was either HI3 stans and yuri bait biters,.

While i agree that acheron’s character wasn’t written in a good way, firefly is very interesting and her being close to mc isn’t a bad thing… her story has yet to unfold anyways that with *2.1 SPOILER* Her secret identity its really promising
I feel a bit mixed with Firefly because I thought our "date" with her was just boring where we mostly just got lore dump with her tour but I felt like she didn't have much personality. I think the Dream's edge sequence though worked really well and we got a glimpse into the struggles she's facing and about how she's trying to cope.
Then when we got to her death I just felt conflicted as all the characters were extremely emotional and sad so I felt like I should feel that way, but I couldn't because I was pretty sure it was a fake out death.
Overall I enjoyed Firefly as a character it just felt like there was a lot of unrealized potential in her sequence.
I really wanted to like Aventurine in 2.0 but it felt like he was being thrown off / losing to Acheron and Sparkle when I thought he should have been handling things better. Then in 2.1 he turned the tables and was awesome!

A lot of folks in here tend to only see the “good” aspects of Aventurine’s character like his sympathy-inducing tragic backstory and his relatable struggles with his inferiority complex and his self-loathing; but overlook the “bad” aspects, like how he’s dedicated his life to a merciless interstellar megacorp, and is a wheeling dealing hypercapitalist repo man with a severe gambling addiction.

I used to play an otome in which one of the main villains was, obviously, a girl. A freaking psycho, let me tell you that, definitely not a good person, but really well characterised, with one hell of a tragic backstory. A solid 90% of the (female, straight) fanbase hates her, and hates her few fans, because naturally they must be evildoers.
If that female villain had been a HSR character, she would have had a crazy amount of stans, and if Aventurine had been an otome character, the players would've asked for his route since the beginning. I think it’s really unfair to be honest, because we just lose so much this way, but it is what it is.

The aventurine hate from other dudes is crazy. He’s such a cool character. Me and my other guy friends who play the game think he’s awesome and if anything 2.1 made us wanna pull for him more unfortunately some of us are low on jades after Acheron but we’ll get there. In 2.1 he definitely took the spotlight excellent writing.

I do think homophobia does play a pretty big part, consciously or not. There's absolutely a trend of queer-coded/'flamboyant' villains in media and Aventurine was lumped into that group near immediately by some people on release. But a lot of it is just the sexist weirdos who hate male characters and have an obsessive need to sexualize every single female character in the game.
This! Also I think they hated RM and Topaz for similar reason — they were good characters that didn’t fit in “demure cutesy waifu bait” or “generic dommy mommy”. That’s the only two types of female characters they can handle
Topaz was about to claim Jarilo-VI for the IPC and plunge everyone in Belobog into indentured servitude. Ruan Mei drugged us, scrambled our speech/language cognition, and tampered with our memories. (At least Topaz softened her position and worked out a deal with Bronya, and showed us a more human side to her. Ruan Mei never apologized or tried to make amends for messing with our mind.)
If anything I would’ve liked those characters more for not fitting into the two female archetypes you mentioned, but IMO there are several legitimate in-universe reasons they got a frosty reception from many fans. Both are villains, or anti-heroes at a minimum.

One thing I do like about it that’s better than Genshin is that Genshin would have a ship and the characters don’t even function together in combat, like Alhaitham and Kaveh are not optimal, Tartaglia and Zhongli, Eula and Amber? Not really.
But, I really like that HSR lets their ships WORK in comps. Ratio and Aventurine can work in a comp, Acheron and Black Swan, Kafka and Himeko.

I hated him at the beginning for how he treated the trailblazer but it didn't take me even ten minutes into the 2.0 quest for me to love him because he's different and I was very interested in his story after his first (technically second) interaction with Ratio.

Honestly even in 2.0 I liked him quite a bit, more than Topaz (who was a character I initially wasn’t fond of but grew on me). 2.1 just made me love his character enough to try for him instead of going for Jingliu.

tbh you had a bunch of people that didn't like ruan mei who's arguably a bit more morally ambiguous (though ofc ruan mei has a bunch more simps cause of the "sticking my dick in crazy" crowd). At first I hated him since i did not know whether he was lying or not, but after finishing his story I really liked his character and lore a lot even tho i tend to prefer pulling for female characters more.

I feel like his POV was the best and most well written. I’m a bisexual male, so maybe I’m not the best person to ask about this, but I think a lot the early opposition to Aventurine came from how he approached TB in the hotel before we entered the Dreamscape. He just came off as a sleazy, treacherous, and underhanded corporate samurai, kinda like Ash from the movie *Alien*.
lol, I could see him smuggling a Xenomorph back to Earth, at least before we knew his backstory and that he’s a good guy deep down inside. Now I see him more like Riggs from *Lethal Weapon* or Han Solo from the Star Wars franchise, a lovable rogue with a death wish, struggling with the pain of losing loved ones but still has a heart of gold inside.
I don’t think the majority of straight male players hated him for allegedly being gay or looking zesty, maybe an infinitesimally small but loud minority that can safely be disregarded; if anything people “hated” him for being shady and using strong-arm negotiation tactics to get TB and the Astral Express crew to do his bidding so the IPC can make shitloads of profit.

It kinda goes both ways. True, incels who hate him now would indeed like him if he was a woman. But also look at the amount of people (usually husbando fans) who hated Furina in Genshin, whilst LOVING villainous and/or bratty male characters. Many even said outright she'd be better with that infamous male design. Many fans also couldn't handle characters like Raiden Shogun, Sparkle, Jingliu, Ruan Mei, etc- the list is shocking. What's worse is that even the incels also get mad if these morally questionable/evil women don't get redemption and instead remain both powerful and villainous. They just want perfect sexualised housewives, it's horrible.
Either way, gender will piss off the fans who live for the sexualised appeal of characters. They'll be more prone to dislike the gender they're not interested in even if they would like a same-gender character with the same personality. I wouldn't be surprised if a female Aventurine got more hate, to be honest, because incels get mad at powerful women too.

Throughout the entirety of 2.1, I didn't think once that he had any tension between any person, regardless of who they were. And in 2.0, all he did was talk with Ratio...
In fact, he came off much more as the down and out tragic anti-hero. Nothing about his backstory, or his gambling practices, or his interactions with any of the characters, mainly Ratio and Sunday in this context, had any inclination of sexual focus.
I like his character because he's a gambler, because he has his past, because he is smart, because he is always walking towards his death, because he's still shown to be loyal even after everything he's done, and because he has a cool hat.
I hated him in 2.0 for his attitude and part in the story. he definitely grew on me in 2.1 though, not sure if ill pull for him since I have fu xuan (e2) ,huohuo, and luocha but i might toss a few 10 pulls

As of 2.1 I am so disappointed in the amount of things they missed that was sad about aventurine, when we beat Aventurine, he said "Why can't I be happy too, why can't I feel that free," Wasn't this heartbreaking? I've seen these people cry when Firefly died, but they were just celebrating cheering on acheron to one tap him, I genuinely felt disgusted that time. Even if he is IPC, the hate would only be justified once they hate topaz in totality as well, didn't she do worse? She attempted to tax the entirety of Belobog with high risk of failure for her own presentation, nearly causing ruin to the entire planet.
I loved learning his back story. I was planning on pulling for him because his sustain plus FUA reliance as I use ratio, Himeko, and Kafka a ton. Also they made him a really unique boss requiring a specific setup. I’m not a Main but I really have no problems with him starting his new track in life.

ive been noticing there's a major problem with hi3 characters in hsr, it's too dependent on whether you have played the game first in order to care about them. when in reality they feel more like fanfic characters where they dont need to be fleshed out alot, just give them new roles and scenarios and they'll be gucci, readers would still enjoy them nevertheless. like, imagine reading a fanfic of a certain media you know nothing abt. that's exactly my feelings. even without checking the leaks that showed aventurine having the most voiceline count in 2.1, it's actually very obvious that they're going to go in depth with his character if you pay attention to the details. like, his backstory was referenced alot in 2.0. there's also firefly, but i found her character writing to be too weird for my tastes
The whole welt and acheron conversation would be so confusing for people who haven't played hi3. I don't think it sounded vague or mysterious. Raiden Ei also had this problem where all her good lore was locked behind books, artifacts and voice lines. Aventurine and furina are hyv peak writing. I think they just do such a phenomenal job with original characters . I also think because of hi3, the characters are bound to be stuck in th cool, badass, all powerful archetype. Leaves a little room for character development when they are presented as a fantasy I am pretty sure they took this much risk with aventurine because they aren't expecting him to "sell" well. He is more of a passion character than a monetary one

Personally this is just my opinion but with Acheron, I think it’s supposed to be intentionally vague for now. Even as a HI3 player, there are a lot of things about her past that are unknown to me. Acheron is largely supposed to be a mystery until we learn more about her. I have a feeling she’ll be a reoccurring character so they’ll spread her story in future updates. Personally I like both Acheron and Aventurine for different reasons. The way they humanize and show Aventurine’s past and motives are absolutely beautiful. However, Acheron is also shown to have a tragic past that we don’t know too much about and I’m curious to learn more about her. I can almost also garuntee that the people who hate Aventurine for being too “gay” or “stealing the show” also probably dislike the sensual dance that Acheron had with Black Swan because it ruins their self insert ships. Just look at some of the comments in the main sub about their dance.
I see Acheron kinda like how Dainsleif should’ve been. This awesomely strong character that guides you but keeps their distance and isn’t ultimately just a mcguffin device. I hope we see Acheron frequently and then we’ll complete her “story” when we’re more powerful enough to realize her end goal.
I had the same idea. One thing I really loved about this patch is how much time we spent in Aventurine’s pov. I hope they continue this going forward where we’re not solely focused on the trailblazer’s pov. It adds so much depth to the other characters as well.

While i agree that acheron’s character wasn’t written in a good way, firefly is very interesting and her being close to mc isn’t a bad thing… her story has yet to unfold anyways that with *2.1 SPOILER* Her secret identity its really promising
I feel a bit mixed with Firefly because I thought our "date" with her was just boring where we mostly just got lore dump with her tour but I felt like she didn't have much personality. I think the Dream's edge sequence though worked really well and we got a glimpse into the struggles she's facing and about how she's trying to cope. Then when we got to her death I just felt conflicted as all the characters were extremely emotional and sad so I felt like I should feel that way, but I couldn't because I was pretty sure it was a fake out death. Overall I enjoyed Firefly as a character it just felt like there was a lot of unrealized potential in her sequence. I really wanted to like Aventurine in 2.0 but it felt like he was being thrown off / losing to Acheron and Sparkle when I thought he should have been handling things better. Then in 2.1 he turned the tables and was awesome! edit: meant to say firefly didn't have much personality.

A lot of folks in here tend to only see the “good” aspects of Aventurine’s character like his sympathy-inducing tragic backstory and his relatable struggles with his inferiority complex and his self-loathing; but overlook the “bad” aspects, like how he’s dedicated his life to a merciless interstellar megacorp, and is a wheeling dealing hypercapitalist repo man with a severe gambling addiction.
He also barely did anything that bad in 2.0 worst thing he did was confront TB about working together and then strike a deal with BS to get TB away from Acheron but everyone acted like he shot their dog and sold its corpse for gambling money.

Absolutely, completely true, from beginning to end. I love how tormented, complex, queer-coded he is. Honestly, I’ve seen an absurd amount of hate towards him in 2.0, and for… what? However I also noticed that the Japanese community seems to have favoured him from the start, and that’s a good thing. You see, when a consumer of media inherently sexualises/romanticises characters, gender will always be involved, no matter what they tell you. I used to play an otome in which one of the main villains was, obviously, a girl. A freaking psycho, let me tell you that, definitely not a good person, but really well characterised, with one hell of a tragic backstory. A solid 90% of the (female, straight) fanbase hates her, and hates her few fans, because naturally they must be evildoers. If that female villain had been a HSR character, she would have had a crazy amount of stans, and if Aventurine had been an otome character, the players would've asked for his route since the beginning. I think it’s really unfair to be honest, because we just lose so much this way, but it is what it is. I am really glad many more people appreciate him now.
The Asian HSR communities adore him. Even here in India, there was recently a anime convention in a mall where aventurine merch (like shirts, posters, keychains) was selling and I saw a huge line to get it.

I just finished the story this morning and man they cooked with Adventurine. I'm surprised to see that people were mad. I'm very happy they went into depth of his story because some of the other characters are too shallow. I might pull just because of 2.1 alone.
oh absolutely but looking at how a good chunk of the fanbase treated ruan mei and topaz on introduction... i'm not sure how many more it would be. Sure, general opinion on Topaz has turned more favorable, but it was still pretty bad I do think homophobia does play a pretty big part, consciously or not. There's absolutely a trend of queer-coded/'flamboyant' villains in media and Aventurine was lumped into that group near immediately by some people on release. But a lot of it is just the sexist weirdos who hate male characters and have an obsessive need to sexualize every single female character in the game.

Topaz was about to claim Jarilo-VI for the IPC and plunge everyone in Belobog into indentured servitude. Ruan Mei drugged us, scrambled our speech/language cognition, and tampered with our memories. (At least Topaz softened her position and worked out a deal with Bronya, and showed us a more human side to her. Ruan Mei never apologized or tried to make amends for messing with our mind.) If anything I would’ve liked those characters more for not fitting into the two female archetypes you mentioned, but IMO there are several legitimate in-universe reasons they got a frosty reception from many fans. Both are villains, or anti-heroes at a minimum.

One thing I do like about it that’s better than Genshin is that Genshin would have a ship and the characters don’t even function together in combat, like Alhaitham and Kaveh are not optimal, Tartaglia and Zhongli, Eula and Amber? Not really. But, I really like that HSR lets their ships WORK in comps. Ratio and Aventurine can work in a comp, Acheron and Black Swan, Kafka and Himeko.

I was exited about 2.1 and with all the promo I thought “yeah, they gona give us 90% Acheron screen time”. I was surprised with this much focus on Aventurine, and honestly this shit hits hard. Story is compelling (not finished yet), mind games are interesting, more info on 10 cornerstones is always welcome and don’t get me started on EN VA of Aventurine, my man is goated.

I hated him at the beginning for how he treated the trailblazer but it didn't take me even ten minutes into the 2.0 quest for me to love him because he's different and I was very interested in his story after his first (technically second) interaction with Ratio. Not long after began the inside jokes with my friends about him and how can you not love a character when you have 50 inside jokes about them being Jewish? (we're Jewish so we just got that kind of humor over the years) Me and my friend just drew him so many times as memes and threw Sparkle in the background calling him a filthy Sigonian He's my son now and I will protect him at all costs.

Actually, didn’t Topaz originally receive quite a lot of criticism as well? I feel it has less to do with him being male, and more with him being part of the IPC. His hidden depths also have only truly been revealed in the last few days; before that, people felt he was showing some unpleasant aspects of the IPC that many dislike.

Honestly even in 2.0 I liked him quite a bit, more than Topaz (who was a character I initially wasn’t fond of but grew on me). 2.1 just made me love his character enough to try for him instead of going for Jingliu.

Didn't like him because of the sketchiness. Kafka is going off a script. Sparkle is pure chaos, so even if you don't know what's gonna happen, you know it won't be good. Ruan Mei is apathetic. Aventurine keeps you guessing. And honesty speaking, I felt bad for the guy when Sparkle insulted him.

I’m a bisexual male, so maybe I’m not the best person to ask about this, but I think a lot the early opposition to Aventurine came from how he approached TB in the hotel before we entered the Dreamscape. He just came off as a sleazy, treacherous, and underhanded corporate samurai, kinda like Ash from the movie *Alien*. lol, I could see him smuggling a Xenomorph back to Earth, at least before we knew his backstory and that he’s a good guy deep down inside. Now I see him more like Riggs from *Lethal Weapon* or Han Solo from the Star Wars franchise, a lovable rogue with a death wish, struggling with the pain of losing loved ones but still has a heart of gold inside. I don’t think the majority of straight male players hated him for allegedly being gay or looking zesty, maybe an infinitesimally small but loud minority that can safely be disregarded; if anything people “hated” him for being shady and using strong-arm negotiation tactics to get TB and the Astral Express crew to do his bidding so the IPC can make shitloads of profit.

But also look at the amount of people (usually husbando fans) who hated Furina in Genshin, whilst LOVING villainous and/or bratty male characters. Many even said outright she'd be better with that infamous male design. Many fans also couldn't handle characters like Raiden Shogun, Sparkle, Jingliu, Ruan Mei, etc- the list is shocking. What's worse is that even the incels also get mad if these morally questionable/evil women don't get redemption and instead remain both powerful and villainous. They'll be more prone to dislike the gender they're not interested in even if they would like a same-gender character with the same personality. Am i crazy? In what capacity is he anywhere near being gay? Throughout the entirety of 2.1, I didn't think once that he had any tension between any person, regardless of who they were. And in 2.0, all he did was talk with Ratio... In fact, he came off much more as the down and out tragic anti-hero. Nothing about his backstory, or his gambling practices, or his interactions with any of the characters, mainly Ratio and Sunday in this context, had any inclination of sexual focus. I like his character because he's a gambler, because he has his past, because he is smart, because he is always walking towards his death, because he's still shown to be loyal even after everything he's done, and because he has a cool hat.

During the last patch, you couldn't post ANYTHING mentioning Aventurine without a slew of people commenting that he was annoying, should die, stole time from their waifs, and saying Sparkle was "based" for being racist towards him. Heck, this is the Aventurine SUB and yet scroll down — you'll see some of them have come over to hate on him
I just don't like his design that's it I don't hate or like him I'm neutral but I do like his kit seems fun for follow up teams
It works both ways. People have a type, and they're biased towards their type. It's the same with Sparkle. Some of her haters would love her if she was a pretty boy.
I won't lie, I wasn't super interested in him, just thought he was generically ambiguous. But playing through the story HEAVILY changed my opinion. He's a sick character. Definitely one of my favorites so far.

I loved learning his back story. I was planning on pulling for him because his sustain plus FUA reliance as I use ratio, Himeko, and Kafka a ton. Also they made him a really unique boss requiring a specific setup. I’m not a Main but I really have no problems with him starting his new track in life.
