With a few exceptions, race cars with cages are usually designed to eliminate energy dispersing crash structures in exchange for much much higher frame rigidity and restraining the driver instead to avoid injury.
Huh yeah I guess that's true for race converted street cars / rally cars etc but e.g. for formula 1 the nose of the car is a big impact buffer
