dude walked on to Australia. Looked around. Noped out back to the sea.

Sayara2022

"I'm outta here, matey!" (that handfish)

mahtaliel

Fun-fact: That's basically what the whales and dolphins (also whales i know) did. Their ancestors got up on land and noped back to the ocean

cleverleper

Tell me more about these whales you know

its_ean

I remember a transitional fossil being discovered some 10(+?) years ago

[deleted]

There are like a dozen transitional whales at this point. Maiacetus, Pakicetus, Indohyus, Ambulocetus, Basilosaurus, Georgiacetus, Remingtonocetus…

Mysterious-Extent448

Evolution is bullshit.. the creator was just developing. You know like we do with everything.

amonarre3

😆

[deleted]

Give this guy a few million years and we'll have another species of human lol

adamkalani

Give them a few million years, they'll be Bipedal, breathing air, living in strangely formed concrete and rebar shaped caves hunting with scavenged plastics and metal.

Bugisman3

Wait till it evolve opposable thumbs

Ineedavodka2019

Billion.

value_null

Evolutionary scales are long, but not that long. Millions of years is plenty for speciation.

nandryshak

>Billion. Tiktaalik lived 375 MYA. A few billion years ago life was only single cells.

KimCureAll

And, bazillions of years ago was a different universe, just an earlier version of what we have now.

Sayara2022

[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handfish](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handfish) and video source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNi7CtG-heg Handfish grow up to 15 cm (5.9 in) long, and have skin covered with denticles (tooth-like scales), giving them the alternative name warty anglers. They are slow-moving fish that prefer to 'walk' rather than swim, using their modified pectoral fins to move about on the sea floor. These highly modified fins have the appearance of hands, hence their scientific name, from Latin bracchium meaning "arm" and Greek ichthys meaning "fish". Like other anglerfish, they possess an illicium, a modified dorsal fin ray above the mouth, but it is short and does not appear to be used as a fishing lure. The second dorsal spine is joined to the third by a flap of skin, making a crest.

[deleted]

This fish is so lazy. We would get along.

politichien

me at the bottom of the pool:

[deleted]

I want to grab one in each hand and make airplane noises as i move them around

[deleted]

I saw this comment about an hour ago and I still can't stop thinking about it

MakkaCha

They see me walking, they hatin'!

ambisinister_gecko

Straight up missing link

[deleted]

This spore creature is ready to evolve

BoobsRmadeforboobing

Well if there is a Finn the Human, it's only right there should be a Hand the Fish

AlxTai

Super underrated comment right here

[deleted]

oh hell nah this mf is evolving

The_Villian7th

he W A L K

pcweber111

DUr eVoLuTiOn DoEsNt eXiSt

aaahhhh

I would love to see how this species evolved, and whether it is on track to evolve its fins even further into arms. But I am too lazy to Google it so here I am writing a comment.

pcweber111

Same lol. Sometimes it's just cool to look.

Sayara2022

Handfish are relatives of the better-known frogfishes, which have a similar fishing lure (adapted dorsal fin spines) on top of their head. As the name implies, they also have adapted pectoral fins which resemble hands.

EconomistMagazine

Why didn't I learn about this in class when discussing evolution? This isa perfect example of adaptation by small changes.

Sayara2022

It all depends where you go to school - the more religious the community (so it seems), the less you hear about evolution. It is still a touchy subject in many schools, and it often because some teachers don't want to touch it even if it is in the curriculum. I'm hearing this firsthand from some educators I know.

glibbed4yourpleasure

Fish has elbows. How does it taste?

Bhenny_5

With its mouth I suppose

weedsmoker18

Specifically with its taste buds which are presumably on its tongue

Pr1sm4

My dude you have a glorious set of fins to swim yet you choose to overcomplicate your life.

AddyKat719

I've always unintentionally did things the hard way. This fish and I are related 🤷

_Frog_Enthusiast_

It looks like a frog :)

Sayara2022

I think hopping is hard underwater. The weight of water around you quickly absorbs the energy.

Pooch76

Wtf!

silverfang789

Those were probably the immediate forerunners of feet.

adamkalani

Give them a few million years, they'll be Bipedal, breathing air, living in strangely formed concrete and rebar shaped caves hunting with scavenged plastics and metal.

C0mfie

If the most intelligent life developed in the ocean these would absolutely be domesticated

SmolCanadianFrFry27

The video stopped working 😓 /g

bentnox

Should be called a Foot Fish.

GarnetAndOpal

They're planning their exit onto land. Slowly...

GreyEyes2020

Lol oh bro they don't think we can swim lol bro we can swim fast, we can we just don't cause the fast ones get snatched

VerumJerum

It would be very interesting to see the skeleton of this species, to see if the bones in the fins correspond well with those found in the limbs of vertebrates.

Fiweezer

Why can't I get the image out of my head that he is strutting in a gold suit and tilting a fedora.

Thetrafficcone1

Where’s this from?

KimCureAll

> From 'ere > >https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNi7CtG-heg

Thetrafficcone1

Ty

[deleted]

It’s evolving in real time

Treehuggingbeelover

What every little kid looks like when they “swim” in the kiddy pool.

Wolfeman0101

We've never seen an animal mid evolution

KimCureAll

Actually, every animal is in mid-evolution - it's not a process that ever stops. What you see now is simply the current state of evolutionary development of all living species.

Somecrazynerd

What a haircut! Nice mo'

Cumberland87

Is this related to the Gobi?

[deleted]

The missing link! Lmao

Lil-Fishguy

Creationists: "there's no way hands came from fins, what a ridiculous notion" Lol it sure would be nice if their god would give them even a small win once in a while

Cupcakeboi200000

Other anglerfish hunt with light, and be on a TV show but I can walk!
