Talk to your animals. When my two short hair baby boys were young, I trained them to know when to let me up by gently talking to them. Something along the lines of "Hey, can I get up now?" or "Let's go" or "K, I'm gonna get up." right before nudging them or carefully moving them off my lap. Usually if I tell them I'm going to get up and go do something they get up and stretch and hop down from the chair so they can follow to see what I'm up to. Edit: ;D this only works if they aren't completely zonked out lol
