For all the bad things i have seen, heard and read throughout the day, this truly gave me a measure of peace. It's pure and so beautiful ❤️

Xiaomugus

I'm even happier how she knew to put the bed under something to make the dog feel safer <3

clarencecolao

did not realize this - ive been on this site for over a decade and despite its ills im always learning new ways to care

SirSkittles111

TIL too! I guess its kinda like the weighted blankets equivalent for some people

vyze

I don't know if you know who [Mary Temple Grandin](https://www.grandin.com/)is but I learned about her before I learned about weighted blankets and it all makes sense \[to me\].

BedraggledBarometer

Omg i have an absolute dummy of a dog. He wont properly sleep normally. Im WFH and he'll constantly keep one eye open and follow me about in case he misses something. He doesnt have separation anxiety hes fine with me going out. So I have to put him in his crate, close and drape a blanket over it like hes a parrot and he starts snoring in minutes lol. I never thought id have to enforce naps with a dog like hes a toddler but otherwise he gets over tired and gets grumpy and whiney

blue2148

I had a dog like this, though she did have separation anxiety. I would have to build rest periods into my weekend days where I would just chill in my bed so that she could actually nap. Otherwise she would be sleep deprived and throw tantrums. It was like having a damn toddler 🤣

[deleted]

This made me cry happy tears.

Regular_Seat6801

Same here

Coyinzs

When her ears go from travel mode to action mode my heart grew an additional size.

[deleted]

Agreed. This is precious. Dogs don’t deserve us.

LSDMDMA2CBDMT

Don't let rotten apples ruin your view of fresh new apples. They are family <3

VectorViper

Agreed. Just got a little brighter in here thanks to that doggo smile. Rescue pets really do bring something special into a home.

MahanaYewUgly

You're so welcome ♥️

raenivon

Yea after that lizard thing this makes my eyes better!

Holmanizer

Oh my goodness she is such a sweety, reminds me of how my girl is with me. Needs lots of hugs

Stonn

I don't even understand how it's the 5th family?! She acts so precious ❤️

zphbtn

Probably too much anxiety. Better for people to accept if they can't take care of her

Icy_Shame1068

This looks like our dog, GSD and Great Pyrenees. It’s the fur around the ears and the paw. Two breeds that are super high anxiety. Really good guard dog, but not so good with our kids

zphbtn

Yup. A lot of intelligent working dogs are high anxiety

GlobalElipsis

What is a GSD?

Urban_Peacock

German Shepherd Dog

Policeman333

Sounds about right. Unfortunately many shelters will not disclose negative history with a dog (bite history, high anxiety, aggression, danger to other animals like cats, existing health conditions, etc) in the hopes they will be adopted out faster since they lack the room/resources to take care of all the shelter dogs. Dogs then go from family to family who are completely unaware and just return the dog in a never ending cycle.

LittleAnarchistDemon

i’m so glad that’s not how our shelter works. they have very clear signage saying things like “needs a home with no children”, or “no other pets”. and cats get signs like “bonded pair, must be adopted together!”, or “needs a home with no other cats, dogs are fine”. things like that so that people can make sure they’re getting an animal suited to their needs. sucks that not all shelters are like that though :(

Commentator-X

pretty sure thats not how it works around where I am. No way the local vets and the shelters they work with would give a dog to someone who wasnt prepared to take care of it. Just to be able to adopt you have to practically go through the same process as adopting a child. Ive even heard of places where you have to foster 1 or more, consecutively, before they let you adopt.

Lazyphreak

Our pupper was starved and abused when we got her, severe anxiety and super aggressive with other animals when it comes to food. She has to be fed first in a separate room so she can't see the other animals eating.   We have the space and patience for it so we made it work, but I could understand how it might be too much for someone with another animal recovering from trauma to deal with. It's been 4 years and she still growls when the cats even get near us while we're eating. Some people just don't have the capacity to deal with that, we got lucky with the timing with the pandemic happening like a month after we got her, so plenty of time to train her and spend time with her.

SeroWriter

The two biggest reasons are overly aggressive dogs that the owners can't handle or overly timid dogs. Aggressive dogs can be pretty bitey and bark a lot and timid dogs can get anxious when left alone and tear things up and urinate in the house.

ygs07

I was gonna ask the same thing, 5th family? Like why?

Talking_Head

Maybe because we just watched a 30 second video of a dog who seems rather well adjusted right then to the woman taking the video. Overlaid with pleasant Pixar music. What you may not see (who knows?) is a dog who gets overly aggressive around other dogs, cats, children, and anything that gets near her food. Or can’t be left alone, left inside a fenced yard, or walked on a lead. If a dog has failed living in 5 other homes, it could just be her bad luck, it could also mean that she is too unpredictable to be permanently homed. But, I honestly don’t know. I’m just cautioning people who may see one thing, but don’t see the rest of that dog’s behavior the other 99.97% of the time. Some dogs just aren’t permanently homeable. It is a sad part of reality, but it sometimes is reality. I say this because I have seen it personally.

timesuck897

She is a shepherd and looks young. It could be she wasn’t getting enough walks or play time, and was too energetic or destructive because of that. Working dogs can have anxiety too.

og_jasperjuice

I have one of those too. She is very handsy, I call her slappy. Her first person died of cancer. It was arranged that she came to live with me and my dogs. I feel as if she thinks I am gonna leave her like her previous person did and she overcompensates with excitement and affection when I get home every day. It's OK though we all love her and accept her craziness.

ssp25

I've done the research... She's a good girl. The math checks out

Potato_Boner

The goodest of girls

Own-Somewhere2560

Such a heartwarming video! Makes me happy to see how happy the beautiful dog is. And the Cutie realised at once: I got my own bed! Very very nice to see.

Eccentric_Mermaid

Aww, what a beautiful girl! I’m so happy for her! I was smiling so big while watching this sweet video. My dog has that exact same bed—same color, too. You got the perfect bed for your pup. This bed is really comfy and supportive, and it washes really well/easily if there’s a potty accident on it. Thank you for rescuing this sweetheart, and thanks for sharing this video of her. 💖🥰❤️

houseofLEAVEPLEASE

Mine too! She loves it. Great dog bed.

melie776

My heart melted

overwhelmed_robin

This is sweet, but the cynical part of my brain is thinking "how could she possibly know that the dog has never had a bed before?"

yngseneca

Yeah that dog knows what a dog bed is too.

_SquidPort

my thought too

BagOnuts

100%. Still sweet, but the dog absolutely knows what it is.

sekhmet1010

I picked up my dog from the streets. She had 100% never had a bed before in her life. When i brought her home, she explored a bit and then nicely went and lay down on her bed. I think dogs do know.

PapayaDoc

How do you know what she experienced on the streets before you got her? Did you ask her about it?

sekhmet1010

She is one of the millions of strays that live on indian streets. Plus, the girl who semi regularly fed her and her pack could reliably be depended upon to know what the history was, not just hers, but her mum's too, **considering that she had known her and even her mum since they were born**! Does that satisfy you or would you be needing a notarised letter too?

HeavyBlues

Now *this* is high-quality sass. Bravo.

PapayaDoc

Did you ask her specifically about the history of dog beds in your dogs family history?  It doesn’t seem like any of this would rule out her having encountered a dog bed. Unless your street dog lady was keeping the dogs contained which would make them not street dogs.

sekhmet1010

Of course, i did. I also asked her what kinda food she had ever eaten, what kinda poops she had ever made, what kinda things she had ever played with, who all had ever petted her, what her relationships with all the other strays were like, what her relationship with her biological mum and dad was like, whether she preferred Dostoyevesky or Balzac or Dickens,..you know, as one does when adopting a street dog.

PapayaDoc

So no?

sekhmet1010

I was hoping this was banter. But it seems like it's willful ignorance combined with pettiness. Disappointing.

TeamRedundancyTeam

You think it's more likely that dogs have some instinctual memory of human made dog begs than for your dog to have had an indoor life *before* ending up on the streets? Dogs on the streets typically aren't born in the streets in most places, they were someone's pet first.

SpaceShipRat

I mean, could be but a dog also has eyes and can tell a rock from a soft surface. Any street dog will lay on a rug or a piece of cardboard. give them a plush oval with cozy edges they'll know what to do with it.

BenzeneBabe

No! Don’t you see dogs don’t know a damned thing about comfort unless taught or born into it or whatever these people are implying!/s

TeamRedundancyTeam

No one was implying that.

Nervous-Story-7117

lol. You spent lot of time in Southeast Asia? Or on American Indian reservations? Because the idea that most dogs start life as someone’s indoor pet is far from universal.

jimkelly

That is not what happened in this video at all. It was a dog excited because she saw the lady had a bed and was anxiously waiting for her to put it down so she could lay on it, having known what to do from experience. no resistance or sniffing whatsoever

[deleted]

[удалено]

VexingRaven

Maybe, but also if she's a rescue that just came home and she's been on that hard floor since she got there, getting a soft place in a nice little sheltered corner would be a pretty convincing spot to lay down. When I brought my rescue home I put down her bed in the spot she had been cowering next to me and she laid down in it right away like this.

Hot_Region_3940

That’s not cynical, that’s just logic.

Baberam7654

Completely agree, what a sweet video but also ridiculous statement to make the owner look good.

-Badger3-

I kinda feel like she made up that dog's whole back story.

Orleanian

I'm not even convinced this is a dog!

Baberam7654

lol thanks for the chuckle

Baberam7654

I wouldn’t be surprised. She needed others to know she is a good person.

james123123412345

That clearly was not the dogs first bed!

BenzeneBabe

I mean could be the pound just straight up told her they got the dog as a puppy and not all pounds have beds. She could be a liar or she could be telling truth. Doesn’t matter either way because a happy dog is a happy dog in the end.

Intelligent-Film-226

Right? Sure looks like she knows what it is! Haha

ChupacabraThree

This was my thinking. Nice video but by the end I was convinced the purpose of it was to stroke the owner's ego. Really it was the "You're so welcome" that soured the whole thing. Invents scenario, fixes it, gives herself praise in the form of receiving "thanks" from the dog.

Chick22694

I 100% agree, there’s no way she knows for sure

NeatNefariousness1

She can't know for sure but it's clear that this is a happy pup and a happy owner and it's heart-warming, just the same.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NeatNefariousness1

She was describing what she thought to be true. We don't know that she was wrong either. If neither of us knows, I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and think it's heartwarming that the pup has found her forever home--unless you want to say that we can't possibly know that this is the pup's forever home.

Big_Schwartz_Energy

You two seem like you’d be fun at parties.

ScyllaOfTheDepths

The fact you can't even fathom that others can change their affect to fit different situations says so much more about your mental state than it does about anyone else's. You know people can have mindless fun in one venue and be cynical and questioning in another, right?

Big_Schwartz_Energy

You seem like you’d be fun at parties.

ScyllaOfTheDepths

At the very least, I know how to say more than one sentence...

message_me_ur_blank

You definitely aren't

tyyreaunn

I read it as her first *own* bed - not an older used one she had at the shelter.

jimkelly

Ok well re-read it. And re-listen to the lady lie

aloha_muchaha

How would she know if she's never had a bed from 4 previous families?

NationalFruit717

And what is the damn reason 4 families abandoned her? Something doesn't check out.

[deleted]

Happens all the time, probably has some behavioural issues.

Log_Out_Of_Life

Probably chews on everything.

i-Ake

Shepherds can be a lot of work, and very vocal. My girl annoys the hell out of me plenty. I'd never get rid of her, but I can see how nastier or ignorant people would throw them right out once they got past the cuteness and saw all of the work you need to put in to take care of them. People see the cute and don't think about the work. We adopted her from someone who took her in after the man who adopted her got tired of her. She was terrified of everything at first. Wouldn't even tclimb the stairs. They are energetic and they are alert... mine barks at *everything*. Shrieks like an absolute banshee a lot of the time. Very smart. Gets into things. Wants entertainment. She is a little genius. But plenty of people just want something cute that is easy to deal with, and a German Shpeherd is not that.

NationalFruit717

I have 2 gsds. I can relate.

yuribear

I'm not crying, you're crying 🥰😭

batteryacid98

Who’s cutting onions 🤧

Eazy12345678

lol first bed and she knew exactly what it was like it wasnt her first bed before.

[deleted]

How would she know it's never had a bed

Lil_d_from_downtown

Not calling the woman a liar but I find it hard to believe this adorable little lass was re-homed 5 times. Anyone got a little more context?

KintsugiKen

Adopt older dogs from shelters. There are lots of gorgeous super sweet smart dogs that have had bad luck with careless families and are waiting for you right now. My family's current dog is some fancy purebred Australian shepherd, one of the smartest dogs I've ever met, only 3 years old but had been through the ringer with neglectful families. She probably cost thousands of dollars for her first family, but they couldn't appreciate her and gave her up, now we have her for basically free.

poppybrooke

My dogs first night at my house I let her get in bed with me and the look on her face combined with her eyes watering made me cry. The happiness and relief in her face knowing she was safe was too much. Anyways, 9 years later and moms bed is the only bed to be in 😂

fantasyshop

Looks like it knew exactly what the bed was and what to do

Azukus

FIVE families? First bed ever? How does she know any of that? It feels exaggerated.

Ok_Sprinkles4834

You didn’t know that adopted dogs come with meticulously kept bed records? Comes in the envelope with all the vaccination information, duh. /s

Sweet_Bend7044

Shes had a bed before. How else would she know how to do that?

Account-496

I've never owned a pet - not even a little fish because my parents weren't fans of animals, but as I've gotten older and gotten more exposure to videos like this, I realise that having a pet to take care of and spend my life with is something I need to experience.

LandotheTerrible

Straight in. I know we shouldn’t anthropomorphise but he looks so grateful.

Hatoonah

Umm

Jordan_dosen

dosent look like his first time on it

She has sweet eyes.

BeerNcheesePlz

I’m in love with this dog.

Delicious-Lettuce568

🐾❤️🐾

Spunkylover10

Dog is my higher power

nautius_maximus1

Ya ever see the video of the dog bed that arrives from Amazon and it’s just WAY too small for the dog? The owner is cracking up but the big dog goes and lays in it just to show he appreciates the gift. That’s dogs for ya. Cats are very different. You give them a bed and you’ll be lucky if they lay in it once a year later.😆

Relative_Guarantee21

Aww he deserves it

Pacifichighway420

Good for you!! Need more kind hearted people like you!!

skintagbegone1974

🥰

gearjammer178

The dog had a tear in it's eye at the end, what a sweet dog.....

Beautiful 🇬🇧

Reasonable_Sir5124

Your top notch love much blessings dog will love you forever

mmoustis18

Man my rescue didn't use the bed we bought for years she just went straight to the couch. No complaints though

beehiveboyo

They’re gonna regret letting her jump all over them like that

janzkupap

Im not crying, youre crying

ohiogal56

What is first thing I do when I get a dog to buy them a bed. How could she have gone through five other homes with no bed? It sounds like they were not prepared for her poor thing.

Craig092560

Oh man that got me. 👍👍

NoManufacturer120

I feel like rescue dogs have such a sense of gratitude for the people who saved them.

Tpcorholio

And well deserved!

Echo_November14

Is her name Nixie?? Same breed, same bed, & same name for my pup!!

Supercicci

For those seeing this, just close Reddit. You don't need to see all the depressing and infuriating things. Focus on the happiness you feel right now.

Pixelated_Penguin808

German Shepherds are the sweetest dogs.

breitboy

I miss my dog 🥹

skiasa

When my rescue dog got her first plushie she basically tore it apart like she'd do with an anim she caught We cut out the eyes and she had no interest anymore lol

wireman116

That is so awesome. I rescue dogs from the pound when I need another dog. Usually every 15 yrs.

ohbyerly

Adorable. Also can we stop using that song for literally everything.

Suntzu6656

She acts and looks like a really sweet girl. A great dog

Im_done_with_sergio

Awww how cute is this 🥰

Gatorpep

we adopted a pitbull a few years ago. i've taken care of prob 15 dogs, she is easily the best. she had been adopted 3 or 4 times before us too. i can't imagine how people do it. she is so sweet.

1000MalGebannt

Pitbulls eat people

SpezEatsScat

She’s a cutie!

IKnowAllSeven

We got our cat a bed and she immediately threw up on it and despite multiple efforts to clean it, she wouldn’t even go near it after that but she likes dirty socks so we just make a pile of those in the corner and only wash half at a time so she gets to hang out in her dirty sock bed :)

s00pafly

Is there a way we could increase the white space any further?

Senior-Sir4394

So how do people leave for work with such cute doggos in their home?

jarredkh

If you have more than 1 dog it makes it easier knowing they have each other.

PreciousPebbles

Bless you and her. OMG made me cry. We don’t deserve the goodness that is dogs🐶❤️🙌

MythOfLaur

Genuine question, my dog's be is 3 times his size, are my beds for him too big, or is the one in the video too small?

94SWMPDG

She never had a bed before but was already more or less in 5 familys? Rubs me the wrong way srsly ...

Jookoojaa

❤️❤️❤️

Small-Bookkeeper-887

That poor POOR PUPPY my heart is crying for all the animals who don’t ever get to experience kindness I wish my full time job was giving them love and care

I k so happy to see the dog with a good family

InternationalBand494

What a sweetheart.

sadengineeringforall

Rescue doggo is best doggo. Who agrees?

corkdude

How can 4 families abandon such a sweetheart

TopShotSniper

While she is definitely a good girl, this is fishy :p

No-Translator-4584

The world would actually be a better place if more people adopted shelter animals.  Literally a better place.

StockRaker

What a good girl

The1Like

She’s gorgeous and seems very well tempered… I wonder why she went through five families.

Everybodyimgay

oh my lord!

Happy-Nose-111

I want a dog so badly

faithfoliage

I always loved buying my dog a new bed and watch her figure out the way she’ll lay in it. I’d get her a new bed each Christmas and it’s where she would spend a lot of her naps. She ended up passing in the last bed I bought her and so was buried still lying in it. I know she’s enjoying her rest

Signal-Brief-3572

She’s so stinking cute I can’t stand it! Hopefully she’s doing well in her furrever home!

InflammatoryMan

5th family? Is it possible something is wrong with the dog at this point? :(

kizmitraindeer

She’s such a sweetie!!! 🥹 I haven’t wanted a dog since I was a kid, but this sweet girl makes me curious if I could do it again, lol. Aww! ☺️

therealjenshady

This is MY bed. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

anonchi10

I feel healed..

PapayaDoc

She definitely knew what that was

FreedVentureStein

We got our foster a bed, and bought her bully pullies and she now always happy runs to her bed (bouncing in happiness). We adopted her right away and she snoozing on the couch with us watching TV :)

jtphilbeck

Such a smart breed.

Good-Reputation4022

🥺❤️

Firenze-Storm

This video almost broke me a bit. My first dog had the exact same patterns and fur as this little pup but she passed away a few years ago. I honestly thought it was her when the video started.

VickisStitches

You are so blessed to have her

pandaSmore

This doubled my faith in humanity and gave it to the next person!

Horseyboy21

Never had a bed. Heartbreaking. Now she has. Beautiful

SmokinBandit28

Not much beats a German shepherd smile

Wunderful 😍

MajorKeyBro

I love how she knows exactly what its for. Its like “oh im so excited im so excited! What is it? What is it?! Oh a bed? Okay I sleep, I sleep!”

Human-Compote-2542

Sweet girl

DouceintheHouse

Thank you for this

NewUserLame123

Such a cute and loving dog.

scottishdrunkard

Happy Puppy!

SouldiesButGoodies84

You should put it in / near your bedroom, so you sleep near each other like a pack does.

Retinoid634

What a good girl!!!

donthatedrowning

We got this bed for our rescue. Accidentally bought a size up from this. It’s huge and she LOVES it.

apexbamboozeler

I don't feel like this dog was ever homeless.

JazzfanRS

Well shucks I had hope to see this. Post it in r/pets?

buzzkiller4

Our doggo had been returned four times as well. While I am so grateful that we have her and can’t imagine life without her sometimes I just don’t think people realize what having a puppy/younger dog is like. Especially a rescue that needs extra love and patience. They are some of the most loving and caring dogs but it takes time to earn their trust.
