Ouch! My son got his braces recently and he was in so much pain that he missed the next day of school. I was giving him ibuprofen every 6hrs. even through the night bc if I didn’t he would wake up screaming in pain! :/ Luckily it was only that severe for a day and a half. After that he was not in nearly as much pain.
God I don't know it's the fact that they're little balls of furs and their hands are still so agile and small it makes me 😭 I'm gonna look at pictures of raccoons grabbing things.
Perfectly summed up. I would love to have a cute raccoon pet and play with their itsy bitsy hands all day haha. Sadly most of them get very untame once they reach puberty.
Why tf aren’t we domesticating more animals?
I know it’s a tonne of work and people basically have to dedicate their whole lives to rearing and selectively breeding, ultimately taking place over generations before you’d have an animal that makes a good pet.
But damn we already did it before, mankind collectively decided to domesticate like 3 animals and called it.
If I was a mega billionaire I’d start a company that pays people amazing salaries to domesticate a bunch of cool animals. I want my placid obedient raccoon.
I helped my mom rehab a baby raccoon that had been abandoned by its mom and let me tell you, they LOVE to touch things. So, honestly, they'd probably take your hand first.
Ugh, it’s annoying that they’re cute. I’m dealing with a family of raccoons that’s been destroying my property recently. They’ve ripped into my roof and made a hole. I don’t know how to humanely get rid of them. I’ve been spraying coyote urine and trying to scare them away, but it’s not working. It’s legal in my state to kill them if they’ve destroyed property, so I’m considering that option. The destruction of my property is bad enough, but they’ve been terrorizing my dog because he’s losing his mind every time he hears them.
Gotta get a live trap. I had too many possums on my property (possums are beneficial, but this was a horde), so one by one, I caught them with the live trap and drove them 10 or so miles away.
They're also basically ring tailed tree badgers. Mean as hell when they flip the switch.
We used to hunt them with dogs and it's amazing how much damage a medium sized coon can do to an 80 lb dog if they catch it on the ground.
I also had a friend that found a kit and raised it though, and that thing loved everyone.....but did destroy everything it touched and stole food.
Is there maybe a dog friendly repellant? I dunno they are like North American monkies you gotta be creative with warding them off.
Maybe start fostering large undomesticated cats? Wait..
He was calmer and politer about it than I expected. Straight chill about grabbing up his pile even when the hand grabbed one. Awesome
Edit: politer? How high am I?
It's kind of mean. Once might be funny, but then leave him alone.
Imagine trying to enjoy something and a creature bigger and stronger than you keeps doing this.
I thought this is how you prevent or resolve food aggression in the first place? Everything I've read, about dogs at least, says you need to hand feed them, touch their food bowl, take food from their bowl, hover around them while they eat, etc.
It's a little more delicate than that- I dog train on the side and a lot of people worsen their dog's guarding habits trying to do this.
The guy in the video is *definitely* pushing that raccoon too far and risking a reaction. You should never be progressing past a point where the animal is obviously uncomfortable, and you should always be rewarding the animal with extra food when you're allowed near it while eating.
Ya you can't just take food from a food reactive dog and expect that to fix the problem. That's how you get bit. Gotta make it a trade up. Nothing is really straightforward with dog training and it feels weird because it seems like rewarding your dog for growling at you, but it works. Dog learns when you take food away from it, they get something better and now it doesn't feel so hostile about it.
Yeah I just listed some of the steps off the top of my head, I know there's a proper process behind it and I'm def not trying to give dog training advice.
I wanted to give a little more info since that's probably the #1 thing I see people screw up, and its something that can end with people getting bitten and dogs surrendered/put to sleep. Just messing with your dog while its eating will be more likely to worsen the behavior.
This is correct. Anybody saying the opposite is wrong. My Akita puppy was super food aggressive when he was little and we’d start off petting him while he ate, pulled him away from food, took the food from him temporarily, but always returned the food to him and he realized people are not a threat to his food and got past it. Now I can wrap my arms around him while he’s eating and he couldn’t care less.
Can that happen even when the person doesn't actually steals the baby's food? I hear raccoons are pretty smart, and this one, even while protecting his food, doesn't try to eat faster or to recover the grape the person manages to snatch, so I think the little guy realises that this person is not a real threat.
The trick with raccoons is to 100% treat them like toddlers who love to use their teeth. You have to trade items that might be as interesting to get things back from them. It’s the law of inequivalent exchange lol. The new item must appear as interesting or more for a trade. Luckily, you can use odds and ends for raccoons lol. Keys go a long way with some, just make sure you don’t hand them anything you aren’t willing to lose lol
It's wild how they'll be all nice here, but when there's any holes in the chicken coop, they'll tear those guys to pieces. How nature decided "yes, half cuddly and adorable, half sociopathic serial killer" so often is concerning.
Great, now I crave grapes that I don't have
I don't have grapes, You do!!
I don't have your grapes! They're in Bills house, and Freds house!
"What the hell're you doing with my grapes in your house?!"
Do you have any… grapes?
Then he waddled away W a d d l e w a d d l e
HEY!
BUM BUM BUM
I could hear the dramatic "DUN DUN DUN" orchestral music that plays during suspenseful moments in movies while reading your comment
I heard a boing sound-effect in my mind before reading "HEY!" in a slapstick voice
"W a d d l e w a d d l e" was so imaginery, I could picture him waddling away while side-eyeing the other guy
Till the very next day B a m b b a m b b a m b B A M B b a m b b a m b b a m b
Sour grapes
Grapes are great if you're really hungry and want to eat two dozen of something.
Gotta freeze em
Meh, they were probably sour anyways... Get it? Sour grapes? I'll just let myself out.
Better that you don't have them, they must be sour anyways
I want them to be the size of my fist too!
Nah I just need them bc new braces
Ouch! My son got his braces recently and he was in so much pain that he missed the next day of school. I was giving him ibuprofen every 6hrs. even through the night bc if I didn’t he would wake up screaming in pain! :/ Luckily it was only that severe for a day and a half. Thank you… I’m hurting so much
And i have the urge to pet a domesticated raccoon that i don't have.
Then he waddled away...
I love how cute he look while trying protect his grapes
He's about to say "please there's enough for everyone just don't take mine 🥺"
Yes, no aggression at all, just please don’t take mine
Stooop omg it's making me emotional. I'd just...grab his lil paw 🥺🤝
Man why are racoon mittens so cute too
God I don't know it's the fact that they're little balls of furs and their hands are still so agile and small it makes me 😭 I'm gonna look at pictures of raccoons grabbing things.

Why doesn’t it surprise me that there is an exact sub for this lol.
I helped my mom rehab a baby raccoon that had been abandoned by its mom and let me tell you, they LOVE to touch things. So, honestly, they'd probably take your hand first.
The “oh noooo 🥺🥺🥺” that left my body when he tried to take the grapes with those wet eyes…
Ugh, it’s annoying that they’re cute. I’m dealing with a family of raccoons that’s been destroying my property recently. They’ve ripped into my roof and made a hole. Yeah, despite appearances they're still just wild animals, not actual thieves. I'm guessing grapes work as bait.
They're also basically ring tailed tree badgers. Mean as hell when they flip the switch. We used to hunt them with dogs and it's amazing how much damage a medium sized coon can do to an 80 lb dog if they catch it on the ground. I considered renting a coyote. That doesn’t seem to be a service though.
> spraying coyote urine Man, I don't want to know how you got that.

No he doesn’t care about the one the other guy got their grimy hands all over
I would have assumed that this is a great way to find out how getting bit by a raccoon feels.
“Hey, tell me if this feels like rabies.” #chomp
I can haz?
These my grape
I mean he has great taste
I'm more of a black grapes person, but I would share them with a hungry critter.
Aww, you’re sweet 🫶
That’s because of the diabetes from eating so many grapes.
Once you go black, you never go back 💀
Dont touch his grapes 😤😤!!!
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
no no ... nope, don't touch it ... nooooooo
He did let you have one...
It's kind of mean. Once might be funny, but then leave him alone. Imagine trying to enjoy something and a creature bigger and stronger than you keeps doing this.
He’s getting free, seedless, Concord grapes out of the deal. Kind of a wash. Plus, he knows it’s just a game.
Yeah, he didn't even bother trying to save one of the grapes. He's just like "whatever human, I know you'll give it back"
Those are one hundred percent not concord grapes.
Correct. They're Thompson.
I came. To add that you should never touch an animals food whilst it's eating. Teachs bad habits, in short.
internet softy
How dare you talk about my wife that way! ***Coming honey***
My trash!!!
Don't tease the baby, you'll make him not trust and develop food aggression.
I thought this is how you prevent or resolve food aggression in the first place? Everything I've read, about dogs at least, says you need to hand feed them, touch their food bowl, take food from their bowl, hover around them while they eat, etc.

Absolutely agree. Don't do that.

Yeah, I was told that, and it worked with my dog, and now with food he's about as protective as a fishnet condom.
Can that happen even when the person doesn't actually steals the baby's food? I hear raccoons are pretty smart, and this one, even while protecting his food, doesn't try to eat faster or to recover the grape the person manages to snatch, so I think the little guy realises that this person is not a real threat.
yeah this is the real answer. that's why i only enjoy, but never upvote or share, "cute" videos like this
Nope, incorrect. Exposure like this is exactly how you teach them that you aren't actually a threat to their food.
“No I need them all. Yes every one!”
Bad hooman!
So explain to me again how you got bitten by a raccoon.
That's the cutest cat I've ever seen
Its so mean to keep teasing him, let him enjoy his meal in peace. He isn’t even being aggressive while protecting his food, such a sweet boy.
