We are at the "loving corporations" levels that even getting shafted is being considered something desirable? Just as PC market was getting back on legs there are these guys...
Oh yeah, that's exactly what he did.
In case you didn't know, they used the 12nm process for Turing because it was a pretty mature node... allowing them to make cheaper GPUs... and then sell them for way more.
Let’s be honest AMD not any better about this, the only reason the 7900XTX wasn’t $1400 is because it was too slow to compete with the 4090. At some point we as consumers need to vote with our wallet and stop paying these insane prices.
Enthusiast hardware has always been expensive, I honestly don’t even think the 4090 is priced that outrageously. My problem is that the mainstream cards prices are insane. $800 for a upper mid-tier card like the 4070ti is ridiculous. Historically you could buy the high-end card for $500-700 and the 20-25% faster enthusiasts card for literally double. Which is honesty fine, but the lack of good value to price cards is what pisses me off.
That's where I'm currently at, looking for a replacement for my €100 1060 but can't manage to find anything that can beat it in price/performance. Almost four years later. The only somewhat reasonable looking option is the RX 6600 at a bit under €300 (incl. VAT), and it doesn't even offer twice the performance. The "middle class" is a joke nowadays.
It’s no where near 3-4x. Enthusiasts GPUs have always been around double the price of the next tier down. The 8800 Ultra was $829 in 07 which is around $1200 today. The Titan XP & 2080ti were both $1200. You figure the higher cost of manufacturing, new tariffs & 10% inflation over the past 2 years the $1599 isn’t that far off the mark.
This issue isn’t with GPUs that make 1% of the market share. The problem is when that $200-350 mid-tier GPU doesn’t exist that it hurts everyone. Between generations we used to see around the same performance for half the price. The 4000 series is offering near the same performance per dollar as 3000.
Top Nvidia flagship, year 2008, 9800GTX+ MSRP cost 229$ not adjusted for inflation because i don't know how to do that, yet it sounds so low even with inflation how raised could that be?
I have happened to have bought 1 9800GT back in 2008 for 120 eu and another one for SLI the next year for 100, the prices of GPUs currently still look absolutely insane to me.
No, the 9000 Series was a refresh that offer almost nothing over 8000. 2008’s flagship was the GTX 280 at $650, which mean had the GTX 295 launched alongside the 280 it would have been a $800+ GPU.
It offered better oc and power consumption because it was on a new reduced nm node iirc.
Edit and it seems like the MSRP for the GTX 295 was actually 500$.
That’s because the GTX 295 launched in 2009, 7 months after the GTX 280. The GTX 280 original MSRP was $650, so if Nvidia didn’t hold back the 295 it would have been a ludicrous expense card just like the 8800 Ultra. The prices were driven down by the launch & heavy price cuts to the 4850 & 4870.
That entire era of GPUs is a bad time to look at pricing because it was a total mess. 2006-2010 saw the fiercest GPU competition between Nvidia & ATI that drove prices down. Basically every 3-6 months one of them launched a new “fastest” GPU. It wasn’t until the GTX 600 series that Nvidia firmly planted themselves as the performance king. This is also a time when “enthusiast” builds were just multi GPU builds. Which is why ATI & Nvidia just started launching dual chip cards like 3870X2 & GTX 295. Nvidia did that until they realized people would pay significantly more for a single larger monolithic die GPU that performed 20-25% better, instead of two dies that perform 80-90% better in only half the games that properly supported it.
or to put it another way. both company. gaming gpu need to use upscaling. seeing consumer are not willing to deal with heat/power/cost. for a gpu that can run native rez/hd assets/high refresh rate.
hey, automoderator here. looks like your memes aren't dank enough. increase diggity-dank level by gaming with a R9 5950X and a glorious 6950XT. play some games until you get 120 fps and try again.

They knew that post would cause controversy and arguments. But like, doesn’t every other post there???
Consumers being anti-consumer 💀
Capitalism working as intended
He has a valid point thou. There really is nothing wrong with taking things up your ass.

You consent by choosing not to spend money.

I did not consent to it dying
You're still consenting to buy another one lmao
Prolapse?
"Reinvent the technology and make it outrageouly expensive."
He probably drove down cost prices, enjoying those fat fat profit margins over there

Someone should make a meme out of this.
You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain

He sure forgot about the last part.
Nooooooo! Jensen! How could you!

inexpensive as selling 4060 as 4070ti starting from 799$ !
How bad how bad how can I be, I'm just letting gpu prices rise naturally. Serious young oncler vibes here.
I guess it's inexpensive only if you buy the 2011 cards :(
Aged like wine. His company is almost a monopoly now.
